Hi this is Hobbit Girl. I am talking under Lillyaundra's name because I can't use my computer at the moment. I would just like to say

I am new here. I would like to get to know everyone on this Forum.
I am knew to this forum thing, since Lillyaundra is also knew, I could use a few pointers. I love Tolkien, I am a hobbit, but I have clean shaven feet:). I also hate mushrooms with a passion.

Hope to learn everything I can about Tolkien.

P.S. I have already read the Hobbit and LOTR. What should I read next??

Ony of my school friends (Hobbit Girl) computer got disconected for a while (no one knows for how long.). So I am letting ler use mine.

The problem is that she cant get into her E-mail from this computer, so she cant use her own name, Hobbit Girl.

We are TWO people. we are just posting under one name for temporary use.

It is really true that this forum is not like most/some others. It has people that answer questions to the best of thier abilities and are usually VERY polite. We like to joke around to a fair degree. hehe:D And we are serious. We are in a way like a chat, you say something on one site waite for some one to do a return and then answer back if you feel like it. For example, in Bag End, there is a thread called, Middle Earth Name Game.

For te in's and out's, well you do have to figure them out to some degree. but I will help all I can. since I have only been here for 13 days I don't know everything, but here it goes:

Abrevaitions:
N&A= News and Anouncements
MB= Member Anouncements
LoTR= Lord of the Rings
Sil= Silmarillion
tHoF= The Hall of Fire
S&B= Stuff and Bother

Time lmit:
There is a certain time limit that allows you to only post once every 60 seconds. Here is what your screne will show if you try to post toooooo soon after your last post:
Sorry! The administrator has specified that users can only post one message every 60 seconds.

Rules of Conduct:
Though there are not any REAL rules, at least I dont think there are, you should just treat people that respond to yooou or you are responding to with decent human curtisy.

Spelling:
Some people on this forum think that spelling and punctuation is a BIG deal, well it is nice but when you are typing free hand so to speek, you are bound to make mistakes.

Your Information:
If you do not want others to know something about you, for instence, if you had a dog, :confused: a dog?? of well it works. and you did not want people to know that you did, and you ran into the "Your Pet" thread, you do not have to respond!! You get to choose what you respond to and no one else.

I know I left out a lot but this should help you a little on your way to getting to know whats around here.

OH I almost forgot the MOST important thing, HAVE FUN. This is not writing class and you are nothing is required of you so just BE HAPPY!!:D

When I get board I look up things and it so happens that I decieded to see how many 0s, 1s,and 2s posts we have on the forum.

I wish to find out how others feel about the #s and urge the ones to wich this "poll" concerns, to post. We here would love to here from you and encourage it. I think that you could just start posting here as a starter. To say hi. This is not ment to people that signed in in the last week. It can be hard to start posting and I am just trying to make it easyer.:)

The number of posts doesn't really matter. But what does, at least in MY point of view, is that you tell how you feel. Get involved in silly games. Or find a forum/thread that you like, and post their. All that maters is that you express yourself. If you are an ent or entish, then take you time. But say hi, be as shy as you like but at least tell us that you are their. :)

I hope that this helps some of you out. And I hope to get some good responces to this.

Wow! We have 1,700 something members! When I first came to this forum it was about 500... It was November 11th. I registered as "Elbereth", but never posted... Guilty, I know... I couldn't use inet. Then I reregistered as me.
After Movie came out first days we had about 1,200 or something...

When I first registered here there where about 40-50 member and less than 1000 post in total I belive. In the beginning (august-september) few new members came, but as the weeks went by and with less than 1 month to December 19 more people started to register..

There are always many that register and never posts. Either because they don't figure out how it works, because they are shy or something else.

I'm still quite new around here, since I only joined a few weeks ago (I think, it's all a bit blury).

Hobbit Girl, I you want to have a "deep dive" into the Middle Earth, you should read HOME...but if you want to get some "context" to your knowledge, I suggest you read Silmarilion...

After that you cand read UT...

Yeah, it is a nice name. You might have actually got some fairy names that Tolkien made up in the first chapter of the Book of Lost Tales Pt 1 called: "The Cottage of Lost Play". Here, I'll find one. Here's one Vaire, that's nice.

HELLO ALL!!!!!

This my third day as a member of this wonderful site that I have so quickly become addicted to. I've found myself walking past the computer one second and the next here, so fast that I don't realize what happened! But so it goes, and I don't mind. Already I have become a part of the Writer's Guild, and feel wonderfully at home.

I just want to say thanks for the welcome and I look forward to many more hours of not being able to pry myself away.

Some tips on how you can have even more fun at this forum:

1. Post as often as possible and on various threads just be sure to read them first.
2. Enter Role Playing Threads, like the ones in the Prancing Pony where you can be a different person and attend parties, play in contests, or just pretend to be in middle earth for a while.
3. There's another Role Playing Thread which is the Role Playing Games thread, that's a different one from the Prancing Pony cause here it's like really Role Playing Games...you know...well I am also still in the learning stage with this one, but I guarantee you'll have a lot of fun when you get the hang of it.:D :D :D

Well I guess it's a little late :) I'm Thorin the Second AKA Steve, and I'm from good ol' Australia :D I'm mainly seen around the movies section of the forum, since I'm just a casual visitor. Don't get me wrong though, I HAVE read the LOTR trilogy and other Tolkien works quite a few times, it's just that the other sections of the forum look soooo time consuming compared to the movie discussions :eek:

Hola, I´m new in this forum, well I registered a month ago but I didn't wanted to write because I was still reading The Lord of the rings, but I finished yesterday so, you will see me writing here.
I'am from México and live in México city, I hope you understand my pour english. I will have some problems beacause I read the book in spanish and the names of the characters are traduced (Aragorn is Trancos, Frodo is Frodo Bolson, the big spider in TTT is Ella Laraña,etc.).

I do not know why the Spanish Lord of the Rings changes the names. The original names were invented by Tolkien so I do not think they can be changed into Spanish (unless they mean something in Spanish).

@eledhwen: although I don't like it now, the first time I read the LOTR, I had the german version, and with some of the names translated...
there are some that can be, like baggins, cause they have a meaning in it, it's 'Beutlin' in the german version...

but, in the end, I do like the english original more... ;)

I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. I am a high school librarian and am ashamed to admit it, but did not read anything by Tolkien until a year and a half ago. My favorite book is The Hobbit. My husband is the one that introduced me to Tolkien and Middle Earth and I am so grateful that he did. I love the stories. I love Hobbits and think Elves are great too. Look forward to discussing the books with you all.

It was just last feb/March that I started reaing the books. My little brother brought home The Hobbit. Who knows when I would have ended up reading the books if not for that! So me, and probably most others would not blame you for reading these late in life, because the important thing is that we have discovered these books. It was nice of your husband to introduce you to Middle-earth. I agree with you that the hobbits and elves are great. I look forward to reading more posts from you at this forum, and I hope you enjoy it here.

just like to say hello to all you Tolkien fans as iam new to the forum.Its cool to be somewhere i can chat to other fans of Middle-Earth and all things Tolkien. I have read " Lord of The Rings " only twice, but my admiration for Prof.Tolkien and his Masterpiece is beyond words. I would like to add that although Peter Jacksons vision of middle-earth is not entirely keeping (through no fault of his own) with the original works of Tolkien, i think his interperetation of the first book is fantastic. I look forward to seeing " The Two Towers " on Dec.18th, in fact i can't wait.
