Have to say, downloaded and watched this trailer, and too be totally honest; I liked what I saw. It struck me immediately as being darker, more atmospheric, suspenceful than The Fellowship looked. That is a pleasant surprise. Time will tell whether it detracts too much from the book or whether it holds as true as a Hollywood driven flick can?

hmmm? Arwen @ helms deep? Eowyn beating aragorn with smile? Gimli slower then the others? I thought he was fast. Legolas taking knives to orcs as he rides by them? I dont know.

s.o.b - you're not coming across as funny as I think you hoped.

Arwen @ Helm's Deep? Not in the trailer. Sure we see Arwen, but not at Helm's Deep.

The Eowyn/Aragorn 'fight' consists of one parry. I bet Aragorn was just brushing off her fighting abilities and she basically proves her worth with the one quick jab. It's not like she beat Aragorn.

I doubt we'll see Eowyn at Helm's Deep. She'll probably stay to defend Edoras like in the book (only in the movie, it seems Edoras actually gets attacked by the Dunlanders)(Edoras alone will probably take the place of Edoras and Dunharrow). She'll proabably save the day to some extent.

Arwen is at Helm's Deep, though rumor has it that the scenes of her fighting there will not be put in the movie (it's travesty enough to know that PJ even FILMED them! :D )

As I've said before, PRH, the problem with Eowyn even "proving" herself is against what Tolkien intended for Eowyn. Everyone thought her weak, but she proved them by deception and "stole their hearts" you might say....By having her prove herself prematurely and blatantly open like that gives the wrong impression of how other's viewed her, and the struggle she herself went through to deceive even the king by riding anonymous to prove herself....

Did you see what I wrote? You quoted it. I said the trailer does not show Arwen at Helm's Deep (correcting amerxtremist).

That rumor of the Arwen fighting scenes was from a PJ quote in Entertainment Weekly. Pretty strong rumor.

You are wrong about Eowyn. Nobody thought she was weak. She was left in charge when Theoden went off to battle. She was described as a shield maiden repeatedly. Everybody in 'Dernhelm's' company (at least Elfhelm and some others) knew who she was and didn't seem to have any issue with her going along to the fight. The issue was never her strength as a warrior, it was that other's felt 'she's a woman and therefore her place was at home.'

oh, and another thing amextrimist: "Legolas knifing orcs as he rides by?" He's not riding and I'm quite sure he's said to knife plenty of orcs at Helm's Deep in the book.

If you get sound and no picture you need to upgrade to Quicktime 5.

...I did find it amusing that at the end of the film you are left feeling as though Frodo and Sam were standing at the edge of Mordor looking down into it, but then in the TTT preview you see Orcs running along on a broad field of grass with Merry and Pippin in tow, leaving me wondering how Frodo and Sam got to Mordor before the swift Orcs...

The pleasant surprise though was seeing the Ent...I enjoyed that.

The orcs that had caught Merry and Pippin were heading towards Isengard, not Mordor. Opposite direction.

At the end of the movie, Frodo and Sam are looking over Emyn Muil, and if you look carefully you can even see the swamps right after that. Mordor is way off in the distance, and it's just the side of a mountain. The only bit we see of Frodo and Sam in the trailer has them in Emyn Muil and the swamps.

DOH! Too true, man do *I* ever feel dumb...I don't know what was running through my brain to make me think that everything was headed to Mordor. Heck, we would have lost the chance to see Merry and Pippin sitting around smoking pipes when Gandalf finally shows up!!

I downloaded the preview from somewhere, but I'm not sure if that's it. In either case be prepared for sub-par quality. But it's better then nothing.
