I LOVED the music in FOTR! I have a few favorites, the theme song, When they're in Moria, When they meet up with Pippin and Merry. What parts are everyone elses favorites?

I really liked the song sung by Enya. It's called May it Be I think.

Shiloh is right about it being called "may it Be" by Enya. And it is all very good!
I don't want to sound nasty, but there's loads of this over in the movie forums. I'm sure there has been many threads on this subject there. :)

This should be in the Movie forum. Perhaps I should get Grond to move it.

You don't sound nasty Legolam, it's perfectly logical to assume that people posting to a Literary Forum would have actually read the name and theme of the forum they are posting to before posting to them, unless the starter of this thread actually thought that the Music from the movie actually WAS one of the "Works of J.R.R. Tolkien".
(See, that is getting nasty, not what you did...)

I like "may it be", but I think I like the stuff with out words better. I like the music when they are in the woods of Lothlorien, but is it just me, or does it sound a little... well.... Egyptian?

I think it sounds elvish.

The Soundtrack is EXCELLENT!!! I personnaly like the "Of Hobbits" song, the one when Gandalf is telling the moth to get the eagle, and in Dreams. The Lothlorien one is really neat too!

My favorite part of the soundtrack wasn't even on the soundtrack :). It's when Boromir steps up at the council and starts talking about Gondor. This very beautiful french horn theme comes up, really moving. I hope this is the theme of Gondor or something, and it will be elaborated on in the next two films. It was such a fitting theme for Gondor, incredibly mythic. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Check it out on the DVD if you don't :).

Yes, I remember this also. A very nice theme. My favourite song from the soundtrack would be Track 13: The Bridge of Khazad-dum.

Isn't that the one where the voices go "Boom! Boom!" ? Or was it "Hoom! Hoom!" Loved that part :).

Yes, it was. A sad song that I liked was the "Lament for Gandalf", a nice song. The lyrics were Elvish.

I LOVED the chanting in The Bridge of Khazad-dum!!!!!! It's so cool... I'll listen, then rewind, then listen and rewind, then listen and rewind until I almost loose my mind!!!! Oh well. I like track ... 10, I think. I dunno what it's called, I can't remember weather it's track 10, 11, or 12. But it's where Arwen and Aragorn are remenecing about the first time they met. I love that one!!!

Yes, that's my favourite too. I listen to the soundtrack almost every day, and that still catches me. Though The Bridge of Khazad-Dum is also very good, especially the end, when they mourn for Gandalf.

I liked the soundtrack a lot... was a bit uncertain when I first viewed the film, but really enjoyed it second time around, and have continued to discover new things about it with each viewing. This was one of the things I was anticipating most about the film, as I like Howard Shore's other work, and didn't even know that the LOTR films were being made until he had signed on for them! What sort of Tolkein does that make me?! ;)
I won't go through and pick out all the bits that I like, but here's a few that haven't been mentioned:
(1) Boromir's death scene... the long, sombre notes as he splutters to Aragorn, and the choir beginning to sing as he passes on. Then, as Aragorn stands up, we hear the main 'heroic' theme subtly creep back in. Very touching without being a distraction.
(2) When Galadriel says "he has fallen into shadow"... love the way it shifts between being eery, sombre and mysterious. I liked all aspects of this particular moment, actually (esp. the close-ups on the eyes, and the cutting between characters' expressions)... only a few seconds, but one of my favourite moments nonetheless.
(3) The Mordor theme. Disliked it on my first viewing, but it has grown on me. I especially like the way that Gandalf departs from Frodo's, then the camera pans down the ring with a big 'pounding' note, then it cuts to the volcano and the chaotic music starts playing. Not really subtle, but very effective. I also like the way it starts playing quietly in the background at the Council of Elrond (when Frodo's head hurts and everyone is arguing).
(4) The menacing music that starts playing after Frodo cries "Gandalf" and the film cuts to Isengard. Nice little moment, and the transition to the 'moth' theme works quite well too.

I didn't like any of it.. I found most of it boring. Danny Elfman should have done the music.. it should be illegal not to employ him for movie scores or theme tunes.

Hey,
I LOVE "Concerning Hobbits", "The Ring Goes South", and "The Breaking of the Fellowship". Okay, I like them all, but those are my favorites.
And for you, Elwood, anyone who doesn't like the LOTR music needs to improve their tastes.

Hey Goldberry,
I can tell you which song it is when Gandalf is at Isengard. I'm listening to it right now on the computer. I believe it is "A Knife in the Dark", but I don't know who performs it.

Your welcome, Goldberry. The Treason of Isengard is also a good one. It's when Gandalf first gets there. Let's just say that everything between Treason of Isengard and Knife in the Dark is switching back and forth between Isengard and the hobbits. So all that music is in that section.

How is she being ignorant Elwood? I have been pulled up many a-time for calling people such names. I suggest that you do not do it before you land yourself in a pile of ****.

Yeah, pretty much. It's not like she holds a grudge or anything. Though, I always try to keep an open mind to people with different opinions.....

I'm listening to the Bridge of Khazad-dum. It's at the sad part, where Gandalf falls into the chasm. Sooo sad.

I loved "The Great River" and "Amon Hen." You could imagine them sailing down the river and then passing between the Argonath in awe. I found them very powerful.

Although i'm playing as a dj different steyles of electronic music, epecially deep house,I must confess I like the music. The melondies sound so strong that I always tremble when I listen them, especially the melody in Moria.

Okay, so I'm way late getting on the "band" wagon! But I think this CD is killer! Of course, I knew it would be, having seen the film in the theater and having the video. But it's so great to be able to hear the music "up close and personal."
I think Howard Shore did a great job writing it and putting it all together. "The Prophecy" is stunning. "Concerning Hobbits" takes you right to the Shire. "The Black Rider" starts out playfully, with Frodo and company running pell mell from Farmer Maggot, but then the chilling music of the Wraith Rider kicks in and gives me the creeps.
Hands down, my favorite track is "The Ring Goes South," even though it's a short track. That's what a movie theme is all about! And there are so many other great musical passages. Thumbs up!
