Aredhel
04-22-2002, 07:34 PM
Here is the RP for the Linguists. All dedicated members of the Guild are welcome to participate in the adventures.

We will start where we left off:

She watches him ride off to the Shire, and edges her horse closer to Daerandir's.

"How have you been doing, lately?," she adds in a low voice.

YayGollum
04-22-2002, 09:38 PM
Meanwhile, Truor Tupnm rides Anthrax towards the Old Forest. *he turns towards the others in his group* "Hey, anybody want some fish?"

tasar
04-24-2002, 04:12 PM
tasar looks disgusted and says: I don't eat fish.

YayGollum
04-24-2002, 06:17 PM
"What, are you some kind of vegetarian? Yikes!" *takes a big bite out of some sushi*

Aredhel
04-24-2002, 07:30 PM
She smiles. "You can bring me one, Truor."

tasar
04-24-2002, 09:03 PM
tasar takes magically a hot apple-pie out of her bag and starts to eat it. "Anybody want's some?"

YayGollum
04-24-2002, 11:15 PM
OOC: Guess we haven't parted ways yet? For some reason it looked like we were doing that even though both places are in the same direction. oh well.

IC: *hands Aradhel some sushi and grabs some more* "Hey, Tasar, how do you magically take food out of your bag? Couldn't you just grab it? No thanks on the pie though."

Arathin
04-25-2002, 03:52 AM
rides on down the path, looking only slightly disturbed by the fact that she knows what sushi is. Arathin slows so that she is the last one in the whole part, and as she reachs the rear of the group, takes out her pipe and send up a small stream of smoke.

Aredhel
04-25-2002, 07:56 PM
"It is pretty good." she says. She looks to Arathin."You smoke? I think we are waiting for everybody who was in the official Guild thread to post here. I think. I can't wait anymore."

Daerandir
04-25-2002, 08:07 PM
Daerandir turns his head quickly towards you while pointing forward,"Look to that hill a league yonder. Next to it, a very faint path branchs from this road. If we follow its course, we shall arrive at the Shire a good hour earlier. It is extremely old and barely used by any except the few rangers that know its secret."

Zale
04-25-2002, 11:22 PM
Zale trots up to Daerandir. "What part of the Shire does the path take us to? Would it still be quicker for those of us who are going to Ben-Adar?" (Since we started off from Rivendell, we should be approaching from the East anyway.) He then turns to Arathin. " Are we going to go through the Old Forest, or round it, through the Eastfarthing?"

Daerandir
04-26-2002, 09:50 PM
"This trail makes its way through the north of the woods, then curves southwards to a point five miles east of The Hill, just north of The Water."

YayGollum
04-26-2002, 10:11 PM
"Well, we'll see you guys later. Okay, who is still with me?"

tasar
04-26-2002, 10:57 PM
Just finished my delicious pie. "I'll go with you to see Tom"

Arathin
04-27-2002, 03:38 AM
Indeed Arehdel. I smoke the long pipe in the fashion of almost all rangers.

Daerandir, I am surprized you know of this path. For indeed only a few, and a small handful at that, of the rangers know of this path. I know of it and it does lead where you say. It would be in our best and quickest intrests to travel it, but I guess you didn't know of a path leading off of it that will get us to the Shire even earlier than that one if followed to its end. I will take us down that second path if you wish me.

Zale
04-27-2002, 11:36 PM
I will go with Truor and Tasar. After all, seeing Bombadil was my idea! Who else is with us?

Aredhel
04-29-2002, 04:05 PM
"Not me. I'm going through the Shire."

tasar
04-29-2002, 04:24 PM
"It seems to be us three then - Let's go and find this mystery Tom Bombadil. I hope he feeds us well." and tasar rides away on her black horse.

Daerandir
04-29-2002, 07:38 PM
"Ah, Arathin, I know of that and nearly every other way and wile of the area. I spent almost six months here fighting off a small alliance of orcs, wargs, and, most importantly, trolls. I and my good allies, five of the dwarves of the north and a great eagle, were able to finally best these raiders after weeks of stalking and silent killing.
Which trail we choose is a function of where in the shire we wish to go. Mine would lead to a spot where we could stop for supplies. Yours, well, I have never down this trail, but I saw something I thought might be a branch, but never had time to investigate. I would suppose that that trail would bring us farther north."

aranel
04-30-2002, 12:16 AM
"Sounds like a wonderful plan to me. Are we going to stay in the Shire until we search all over for the Entwives, or just for a small time? I would love to spend an extended visit here, it seems to be quiet and peaceful. Besides, even if we do not see any Entwives, we could study languages of this area too. " Aranel trots up to the lead of the group to pose her question.

Arathin
04-30-2002, 03:45 AM
Yes, it does lead farther north. To some good hobbit friends of mine, who will give us free supplies. They are one of the very few hobbit families that are kind to rangers and 'big folk'.

Daerandir
04-30-2002, 03:34 PM
"A true find! Then let us commence our journey."

Aredhel
04-30-2002, 08:12 PM
"Hey, hey, HEY!" she suddenly yells out from the middle of the group," Who's coming with me to the Shire, for the last time?"

YayGollum
04-30-2002, 09:40 PM
Hey, hey, hey! Looks like everyone in the Guild of Linguistics except for me, Tasar, and Zale! And just to keep up our end of the story,

IC: *the three who are still interested in finding the authority on all living things start making their way to the Old Forest, and no fancy super secret paths for us!*

Zale
04-30-2002, 11:01 PM
As they enter the Old Forest, Zale turns round and asks, "Does anyone actually know whereabouts in the Forest Bombadil lives?"

YayGollum
05-01-2002, 01:22 AM
"Ummm...maybe we'll get lucky? Whoops! Maybe a fancy path could come in handy now!"

Arathin
05-01-2002, 03:58 AM
Arathin urges her stallion, Gildor, into a slow canter. She leads the group along the path. Daerandir is riding beside her, so he too can learn the path. "Might we talk, Daerandir, while we ride? Much about you interests me."

tasar
05-01-2002, 10:58 AM
Oh, nothing to worry about. Let's just go on and on and in the end we'll end up somewhere...Right, perhaps not the best plan.

YayGollum
05-01-2002, 02:10 PM
*always depending on his little birdie friends, Truor calls a raven out of the trees and asks him to start looking around for a weird dude with big boots*

Zale
05-01-2002, 11:29 PM
All we have to do is head for the river. From there, we'll no doubt end up by the old willow tree, and then Bombadil will come and rescue us. Easy.

OK, perhaps not the best plan either.

Aredhel
05-02-2002, 04:04 PM
"I'll meet you the Brandywine Bridge," she says and gallops madly off down the road.

Forgotten Path
05-02-2002, 04:49 PM
*Suddenly, Trour hears hoofbeats comming from around the edge of the forest. The Party of Three freezes and waits, watching. Suddenly, the mysterious wizard, known only as Forggoten Path gallops aroung the edge of the forest. "Wait," he shouts breathlessly. "I am coming with you to see Bombadil!" He rides up next to Trour and says "I tried my best to get back before you departed, and I'm glad the Guild tarried here so long. I will now get to see Bombadil. Hobson knows we are coming, and is now preparing a great store of food! Lets go!"*

tasar
05-02-2002, 09:08 PM
"Did I hear 'food'?" and she rushes on without looking back.

YayGollum
05-03-2002, 02:15 PM
"Well, I'm sure Tom Bombadil will be hospitable too." *a birdie comes and tells him a general direction* "Okay, time to go!"

Aredhel
05-03-2002, 04:05 PM
"Can't we get there a little faster?"

YayGollum
05-06-2002, 05:56 PM
OOC: trying to make this interesting...

IC: The four going to see Tom Bombadil stop for the night in the woods and wouldn't you know it, a troll shows up. "Ack! Hello? Some help here?"

Daerandir
05-06-2002, 07:06 PM
Daerandir pulls in a short breath, then, seemingly with a little apprehension, turns to Arathin. "Yes, what do you wish to know?"

Aredhel
05-06-2002, 07:28 PM
Rides behind them.

tasar
05-06-2002, 08:25 PM
What? A troll! Somebody save me! Can they climb trees? Oh no! I can't! I can't find my tiny dagger!Heeeeeeeelp!

YayGollum
05-07-2002, 12:48 AM
*tosses Tasar one of his many throwing daggers* "Hope that works. I don't know how it will help against a troll, though." *starts running*

Arathin
05-07-2002, 01:54 AM
"Well my people have long protected this land, but never seen you here. Why is that? Where is it that you live? I am very interested in your history since it seems so intertwined with my life. I feel as if I should, and do, know you, but cannot place from where or why."

tasar
05-07-2002, 02:34 PM
"Thanks, Truor!" And she throws the dagger right between the troll's eyes. Just in time, because the troll looked really hungry and was coming right towards Tasar, as she was screaming so loud. Anyway, the dagger-thing didn't help because dear Tasar here hasn't had any time for practice. The knife made a nice scratch in the troll's ear though and he became even more angry. Finally realising, that only her fast legs can save her life, Tasar started to run away, the troll following a few steps behind."Where is everybody?"

YayGollum
05-07-2002, 06:13 PM
"Well, there are only four of us! It would be nice if that wizard would help out!" *stops running long enough to blow a poison dart into the troll's eyes, which also makes it mad, but blinds it*

Daerandir
05-09-2002, 02:45 PM
"I suppose I can impart you with this information. I don't really *live* anywhere. I have spent a cumulative of about five years in the Shire area, that is quite a long time for me and just about accounts for my every free moment. My clan lives far to the north of any of the normal Elven habitations, even far north of the great Erebor. Despite a relatively heavy population of dwarves, the land remains very barabaric. My clan is constantly in conflict with, and evading, orcs and their greater cousins. Even dragons occaisonally make their appearance. This has caused us to become almost nomadic in nature. I range out into the wilderness to protect the clan from raiding orcs, and, when I see too large of an orcin prescense, we move once again. While we move, I and some of my kin both protect the clan and find a new location to call home. It has been as such for as long as I can remember, and will doubtless continue long after I am dead. Whatever time I can spare, I come down to the south to guard the Shire, and although conflicts here are rare, they can be quite a challenge, as you can readily see from my earlier account."

Aredhel
05-09-2002, 04:23 PM
"That is quite interesting," she says after a long silence,"I have seen you around Rivendell, unless that was someone else."

Forgotten Path
05-09-2002, 05:07 PM
Sorry, guys!

*Suddenly the wizard jumps foward and a brilliant blue light erupts from the end of his staff. The troll shrinks back into the darkness. "It's only temporary! Come on! We've got to get away!" The troll starts to run after them, and Forggoten Path points his staff over his shoulder, and there is a large bang. The troll bellows and trips. Then the group comes upon a stream that cannot be crossed. "I'm out of ideas! Have any!?"*

YayGollum
05-09-2002, 06:24 PM
"I always have an idea. Let's just quietly walk up this river until we come to a place to cross. We all have horses, right? The troll is blind, so just be careful!"

Forgotten Path
05-10-2002, 05:06 PM
*"Great idea," Forggoton Path whispers. "Lets go!"

Daerandir
05-10-2002, 05:26 PM
"Rivendell? I have been there once or twice. It is a true haven of our kind, but alone I have no need of it, especially in consideration of my clans situation." Daerandir up and towards the setting sun for a few seconds, then turns back to you. "It is getting towards night, is it not? I shall scout ahead tonight, see what lies in our path." He spurs his horse forward, the lurch almost pulling his hood off (he quickly repositions it), and they head off to the woods at nearly a full gallop.

YayGollum
05-17-2002, 06:38 PM
OOC: just hoping you people haven't forgotten this!

Daerandir
05-17-2002, 06:46 PM
Daerandir makes no further appearance that night; any listening or looking are greeted solely with the rustle of nocturnal creatures and the occasional cry of an errant eagle.

Aredhel
05-17-2002, 07:46 PM
She mumbles to herself,"When on Middle-earth are we going to get to the Shire."

Arathin
05-20-2002, 03:05 AM
Arathin comes back all of a sudden from ahead on the path. "Arehdel, I am sorry I have been away so long, but I have been scouting ahead. My hobbit friends are willing to give us food, shelter, and some good hobbit advice. We must get moving soon though. Very soon. There appears to be some troubles in the Shire."

Forgotten Path
05-20-2002, 04:36 PM
*Meanwhile, Forggoten Path and Company are sneaking very quitely along the stream in Bombadil's forest, thier ears strained for any sound of the approaching troll. "What is a troll doing in the Old Forest anyways?" Forgoten Path hisses.*

YayGollum
05-20-2002, 05:46 PM
OOC: Woah! I had no idea we were here already!

IC: "I have no idea, but we don't have to worry about him anymore. Shouldn't this river lead us to Old Man Willow, though?"

tasar
05-20-2002, 06:37 PM
"It probably does, but what can we do?"

YayGollum
05-20-2002, 10:29 PM
"Well, wouldn't we show up there and get in trouble and hope Tom comes to save us? Or maybe you could come up with some way to find him without having to go through the trouble of being partially digested by a tree?"

Zale
05-20-2002, 11:00 PM
Zale runs into the group, panting. "Sorry 'bout that, guys, but my horse bolted. It really wasn't bred for facing Trolls. I had to leap off its back - it wouldn't stop.
"Anyway, if Old Man Willow wantsus to find it, we will. The same goes for Bombadil. We'd best hope we look interesting."

YayGollum
05-21-2002, 12:34 AM
"Don't even worry about it and yes, we look very interesting. Way more interesting than a few hobbits! Ummm...anybody hear that?"

tasar
05-21-2002, 02:04 PM
"Let's go and face our destiny then. Who want's to lead?"

Forgotten Path
05-21-2002, 04:11 PM
*"I'll lead, I guess, if no one else wants to. Looks like I'll be the first one old man willow comes after, I guess. Someone get a torch ready. If even trys to get us, kinda wave it around on his bark to stop him. Hopefully it just won't make him madder." Forggoten Path and the rest continue walking quetly down the stream, with Forggoten Path in the lead.*

YayGollum
06-03-2002, 09:20 PM
*the trees predictably start to close in on them and Truor takes off his helmet because he's starting to feel way to stuffy in this nasssty forest*

OOC: has this been forgotten again? If you don't want me to bring it up again, I won't.

tasar
06-03-2002, 10:46 PM
OOC: I know I have forgotten it...

YayGollum
06-05-2002, 08:45 PM
Okay, so it looks like this has been forgotten. sorry about that. oh well. Has our guild also been forgotten?

Úlairi

Arathin
06-07-2002, 12:41 AM
Indeed, it is sorta dead. No one posts here anymore.

Aredhel
06-07-2002, 04:24 PM

Arathin
06-08-2002, 01:45 AM
