Do you recall the scene in the Prancing Pony, as the camera scanned around the room, it stopped for a few seconds on a ferret resting against a man's shoulder. There were no ferrets in FoTR. Any idea why PJ stuck it in the movie?

Ferrets are the spies of Sauron

At last! I have the proof I need!

You may not believe it but that was actually a second cameo by Peter Jackson.

Ferrets could never be Sauron's spies, they would kick his smelly Grond-ass at first sight, believe me, I know

LOL... Seriously though, did you notice the black cat? That was kind of cool to stick in there, I thought (although it does give the impression that Bree is an evil place).

Maybe it was PJs cat! He's got the whole family in the movie.

I didn't see the monkeys. He must have not invited his cousins ;).

I think they put it in there to give the impression of a weasel, and not have to worry about rabies. Or whatever. Or they don't know a weasel from a ferret. Or ferrets are cheaper. Or...*mumbling fades into the distance*

Ha! that last chaps signature is amusing...excessively so.

Anyway, I think that the black cat was a good addition and to me it didn't make Bree seem any more evil that having the ringwraiths ride through did.

Black cats aren't evil.

I think it was the rain that made it look so spooky. I could almost smell the disgusting damps of that medieval town.

off course every town looks depressive when its raining. Except Amsterdam, by the words of a well known dutch writer.:)

was Bree supose to seem that spooky, or was the movie showing how it was spooky to the hobbits because it was their first time they left home?

Actually no. Bree was not supposed to be just a town of men. There should have been many other Hobbits there at the inn that night.

I think that PJ was trying to contrast the nice, clean, wholesome Shire with the dirt and greed of men.

That seems feasible as well.

I think it's all 3.
