View Full Version : The Passing of the King

Beorn
05-10-2002, 05:47 AM
Beorn lay in his deathbed, and awaited the arrival of the Queen, Chippy. She was away, to the north, in Arnor, visiting the good Emperor Ciryaher, and the Empress Kementari. He had dispatched an eagle, of Thorondor’s kin, to find her and bring her to him.

The worries of being a king had slowly ebbed away the sprightly personality of Beorn. Now he was old, his hair was gray, and it hurt him to become a bear, or anything else for that matter.

She had at last come, and now he could be comforted by her, and by her arm breath. She knew the moment that she saw the eagle that he was dying, and that he would not last long. There was no hope, for this ailment that lay upon him was not of a curable sort. It was called the Gift of Men, but now it felt like the Curse of Men. His body ached with each movement; each breath was a struggle to hold on. He had lain like this for a day before he had decided to send for Chippy.

He spoke with Chippy for a while, and she said that she would relinquish the throne, should he die. They spoke of many things, and they spoke long.

They knew that he would not make it through these wearisome times, so they began at revising & rewriting his Last Will and Testament.

I, King Beorn of the fair realm of Gondor, declare this to be my Last Will and Testament. I do not wish that the time should come for this to be issued, but I know that it has, whether I would it, or would it not.

Alas, for I am in an ill place to be selecting my heir. I will say this: He will be newly wed. He owes fealty to two people, myself and another. However, upon his receipt of the land of Gondor, he shall remove himself from loyalty to others. He shall be the one known as Valar, of Rohan and Gondor. His queen will be Elbereth.

All the governors of Gondor shall remain the same unless you have good reason to discharge them, or they willingly give up their position. No one shall be granted positions due to friendships, but rather due to ability to maintain the areas that they govern.

Gondor will remain allied with Arnor. She may ally with whomever her rulers like, so long as they are good of heart and spirit. She will avoid the death of any unless required by her own laws, or in the front of battle.

Valar shall become the King of Gondor, and Elbereth the Queen of Gondor. They shall remain so until their deaths or until they are ousted by an evil opposition. They shall do as much good as possible, and spread good wherever and to whomever they can.

The king slept for long after the completion of his short will. He awoke for dinner, then went to sleep again.
And that night, the king lay in his bed, although how he slept none knew because of his long rest that day. They would not know ‘till the morn, for it would bring ill news.

The King Beorn has passed into the world after life, and there he shall remain. He slept with a smile on his face, and hoped that all would be happy that he was in a better place now.

News of the death of the great lord of Gondor reached the ears (and eyes, as some say) of Elessar of Dor-Taur-Sir. He rode down to the lands of Gondor. He came to Minas-Tirith, and there was alowed to see the body of the lord of Gondor. He raised the cold, dead hand, and stood there, holding it. He turned, a tear in his eye, as Chippy entered the room. "He was a great man," he said in an unsteady voice, "we didn't get along much, but he was a great man none the less." Elessar sat there, lost in thought. "The world is a strange place, rulers ruling what they should not, and what they have no right to. But please, let me bring him home. When the mourning is overwith, let me make him a mound in the lands of his kindred... I think he would wish it to be so..."

Mithrandir
05-10-2002, 09:25 PM
ALso hearing of The Lord of Gondor's death Mithrandir rode for many days to get to Gondor. He arrived moments after Elessar, and walked in just as he finished his question,
"Indeed he was a great man my friend and will be missed by many." Mithrandir than put the Mithril bow and quiver that Beorn had given Mith for his B-day. A tear fell from his face as he did.
"I believe that is a good idea Elessar. If you mind I would love to accompany you......"

Yes, Lord Mithrandir, I would like that very much.

Lorien
05-11-2002, 07:21 AM
Lorien having left Valar's wedding abruptly came riding from Rohan to Gondor. He quickly dismounted and walked towards Mithrandir and Elessar. "I came to pay my last respects. He was a good ruler. We never talked but I admire him greatly." saying this Lorien went closer to the deathbed and knelt grasping the king's hand in his own. "Arda shall miss such a great ruler. May you be in peace," whispered Lorien.

Talierin
05-11-2002, 08:06 AM
Talierin comes to Gondor as well to mourn the loss of her former king and friend. Taking Mithers' example, she lays a silver arrow, symbol of Ithilien, by the deceased's side. "Namarie..." she whispers and turns away to hide her grief...

Eomer Dinmention
05-11-2002, 01:58 PM
*Eomer and Valar rode for many days after the ceremony in Rohan

AS they got to Gondor in 2 days, they were very tired and weary, but they still went on

They got to Minas Tirith the next day.

*Eomer walked after Tal. He was clad in black and silver cloak.

Eomer had tears running down his eyes, though his Black cloak covered his face so no one could tell.

*He then pulled out a sword and laid it near Tal's arrow
"Farewell my friend, I hope to see you in the afterlife"

*On the sword, had writings of the Rohirrim Language. It said "Beorn Mighty King, Great Friend to Rohirrim"

*Eomer stepped back and sat in the corner

Lorien abruptly got up from the corner where he was sitting and he laid down a simple but strong sword, crafted for the governor of Angmar by its people, and bearing a sign of the Necromancers next to King Beorn's deathbed. Then he slowly wiped a tear from his eyes and retreated to one side.

Kit Baggins
05-11-2002, 06:10 PM
Hearing the news, Kit Baggins, the young Thain of the Shire, had immediately ridden to the land of Gondor.

Kit stares numbly at Beorn, and tears start to run down the hobbit's face. He blinks them away and bows his head.

Mormegil
05-11-2002, 10:51 PM
Heralds had brought news of Beorn's death to Aldamar, and Mormegil immediatly set out for Minas Tirith.

On arrival, Mormegil joined the group of assorted mourners and paid his respects to the king. Bowing before the body, and saying a silent prayer.

Ciryaher
05-12-2002, 12:53 AM
A parcel arrived from Arnor, along with the messenger that bore it.

He quietly opened the parcel and removed its contents, a ring with a solitary stone. The ring was silver, the stone hematite; and the messenger took the ring and silently slipped it onto Lord Beorn's finger, and then quietly left.

Elessar finnaly broke the silence, "Come, Beorn would not have wanted us to mourn overmuch. It is time that we let him go. We have many things to do now, with the new government of Gondor, and Beorn needs to be lain in his final resting place."

Narya
05-13-2002, 05:36 AM
Narya hearing the news of the tragedy, takes three candles from her drawer. Puts them on a small table by the side of her window. They were enchanted candles from her ancestors long ago, she lit them with her magic (for she is the Ring of Fire). They glowed all through the night, and she sings a song for the King.

A Beorn í yáresse
Mentaner i Valar
Tírien i Númeherui
Manan elye etevanne
Nórie i melanelye?

(O Beorn, who once was
sent by the Lords of the Valar
to guard the lands of the west
what drove you to leave
That which you loved?)

Her voice trails off to silent tears and she weeps for the King in her house...alone...and the light of her candles twinkle like the stars though their aura leaves not the confines of her room.

Alas, thus passes the heir of Gondor. May the new King and Queen govern the entire Kingdom just as well.

And so, the spirit of Beorn passed out of Gondor. His last request fulfilled, he left to be free.
