I really liked the way PJ portrayed Boromir in the last scene of FotR. I thought that it gave him a good face in a bad sercumstance. In the book, he did not come across to me as being really sorry for what he did in attacking Frodo and attempting to take the Ring, where as in the movie, he seemed to have a true change of heart. What do you think?

I thought Sean Bean's portrayal of Boromir in the movie was fantastic. Tolkien never wrote a scene (as far as I can recall) from Boromir's perspective, so in reading the book you never saw things through his eyes. In the movie, you see facial expressions and hear vocal inflections that give you insight into a character that you can't get from the book.

Boromir was the only main character that I got a better feel for from the movie than from the book.

I think Boromir's scenes will be even more powerful once we see TTT and RotK. Once we see those then I think we will truly understand his love for the "white city", and how powerful it is for Aragorn to be saying, "I don't know what strength is in my blood, but I will not let the White City fall, nor our people." That's such a powerful line. It's one of those kind of lines that the screen-writers wrote, and I think it's a powerful addition to that scene. Easily makes up for the "Let's hunt some Orc", which each time I see am becoming more and more comfortable with. Listen to Gimili shout after that. It's not a corny shout, but rather a war-cry, and it really emphasizes the wars to come.

All of Boromir's actions on Amon Hen nearly redeem the cardboard performances of the rest of the characters throughout the movie (With the exception of Gandalf)....

I was so impressed with Sean Bean and the way he did those last scenes....From trying to attack Frodo, to fighting to his last breath while arrows were sticking out of him, to repenting to Aragorn.....If someone told this purist to pick only one scene that he felt portrayed the book to a tee, I would have to pick Boromir on Amon Hen....He captured Tolkien so well..

Kudos for PJ in that regard....I got choked up.....I even forgave Boromir for fingering the chain/ring on Caradhras.....:)

PS: I don't feel that the book was inferior to the movie or did any less in portraying Boromir, however.....;)

PPS: See, Talimon...I CAN say something really positive about the movie.....and PJ..... :D

Well, you'd be pushing it if you didn't like those scenes :).

Don't know about those cardboard performances, though... How about the scene with Frodo and Sam in the boat? I thought that was very powerful as well. One thing I DO agree on is the fact that the very last scenes of the movie were the most powerful ones, and this is solely because of the actors. What this tells me is that the actors did a good job and that either 1) Not enough of thier performance was shown, or 2) The script didn't allow them to express themselves. I agree that were every actor to capture thier charachter like Sean Bean did Boromir this movie would be amazing. Take this into account, however: Every other charachter has 3 movies to develop themselves. Sean Bean only had one. This would explain why his charachter came off as the best. I think when all 3 films are done you will see a similar performance from the majority of other actors.
