I watched LOTR for sixth time and I saw something interesting. In the beginning when Galadriel speaks about the rings and the battle between elves, people and Sauron,Gil-Galad can be seen on two scenes. The first one which shows Cirdan,Galdriel and Gil-Galad watching the rings and the second one while he is killing orcs with his spear. These scenes are just a few part of the second.So.Gil-Galad is with black hair, but he is son of Fingolfin and nephew of Finarfin. It's said about Finarfin:
"...alone among the Noldorin princes he and his descendants had golden hair, derived from his mother Indis"
Why Gil-Galad is with black hair, not with golden. It was written somewhere that Finarfin was with black hair and that explains the color of his son's hair.Is it true?I'm not sure whether Gil-Galad was with black hair.
So the question is black hair or golden?

ILLOTRTM,
I'm going to watch it again and again.By the way in the DVD version it will be longer and the movie will include the moment when Galadriel gives presents to everyone of the fellowship.
Are u sure about Gil-Galad,because the meaning of Gil-Galad seems that Ereinion had golden hair...

Well, I'm 99.9%, there IS .1% that I could be wrong..... I'm so sure I read it, SOMEWHERE, probably in that atlas thing. It shows the thing where she gives the gifts? I'm glad! I wanted that part. Oh, time to go buy a DVD player....

The 'epesse' Gil-galad, means 'Star of Radiance' and refers not to his hair but to his helm, mail and shield which were overlaid with silver and set with a device of stars so that he 'shone from afar like a star'. JRRT never says what colour hair Gil-galad has. As a descendant of Fingolfin he would likely have had black hair. As a descendant of Finarfin he could have had golden hair, but when descded from Finarfin his mother was a Sinda, and the Sindar mostly had dark hair, so Gil-galad may have had dark hair then as well.

No offense, but why are you so curious about what color hair Gil-Galad had?

There are two good shots at the bottom of this link that show Gil-galad from the movie. I never noticed him myself, though:

You've got to love that armor he has, though. Love that golden pattern his chest.

I know that Gil-Galad refers to Ereinion's appearence not his hair, but I was jsut wondering about him. It's easy to be find in the movie, just watch carefully the moment when the camera shows the three elves which have rings on their fingers. That's in the very beginnig of the movie. There're Galadriel,Cirdan(the old one)and the elf with black hair is Gil-Galad.The DVD version will be available probably after two or three months.I'm curious about Gil-Galad's hair cause I saw him in the movie and I asked myself whether Peter Jackson had presented him in the way which Tolkien describes my favourite elf.

interesting question but I have no clue. And as far as the movie, the first one is coming out in August and the second version in November (I think).
