HERE'S AN IDEA!!! I have been wanting to see pics of TT for quite some time, and I am too busy to find very many, I know that many of you have some, and have even posted them in other threads, but I also saw where it was mentioned the idea to post all the pics everyone has in one thread. SO HERE IT IS!!! A PLACE TO POST YOUR PICTURES OR SCENE CLIPS, DOWNLOADS, WHATEVER! I would start it off with a pic or download but I don't have a really good one, one that is hard to find or anything. But I will keep my eyes open for ones that have not already been posted!!!
Also, I know that the trailer as seen in theaters doesn't work on many computers, does anyone have one that is a downloadable file rather than a link???

Man, she looks like she's been dating Wormtongue. Yuk.
Or maybe she got dressed up for the trip into Mordor, you know, where she piggy-rides Frodo to Mt. Doom and tosses him with Ring and all into the fire.

Keep in mind that these pictures are not necessarily movie shots....They have that great, fearless, Elven warrior Arwen riding a horse through the dark minions of Helm's Deep and the promise I keep hearing from PJ and other supporters, is that Arwen will not be fighting at Helm's Deep, though PJ filmed scenes of her doing so....
Unless more empty promises and lies are being put forth.

She won't be fighting? yesssssss!!!

That's the current promise, if it's true, that we shall see at the cinema. Like so many other rumors, it will be going on until next december, I guess.

It's not a promise, per se, but it's the most likely option. PJ shot dozens of hours of footage from Helm's Deep alone, playing with different options. It's anyones guess how it will end up.

The stupid b##ch shouldn't be popping up at all!!!!!!!!!!!
she doesn't belong there, why the hell does she have to show up?!, did Tyler complain about not having enough shots in the movies?
she should only reappear in ROTK -jesus, im a huge fan of the books, and the movies should follow the books as closely as they can. If we wanted to see girls in the movie, big deal...we got Eowyn :)
But Liv Tyler doesn't belong in TTT:mad:

Don't say she doesn't belong in TTT, but rather Helm's Deep. And I won't even care if she's in Helm's Deep for that matter, so long as she doesn't fight.

Tal, she doesn't belong in TTT...She was never written to have a part (minor or major) in TTT and she definitely has no purpose being at Helm's Deep.....But if PJ is going to put her there, why should it be such a problem for you with her fighting? If PJ has gone so far to put her totally out of plot, why shouldn't she fight?
In FoTR, she snuck up and put a sword to a ranger's neck, she wielded a sword and defied all the Nazgul, she called down a flood to wipe out the Nazgul....I fail to see why this kind of Arwen cannot fight with the rest of the elves (who don't belong at Helm's Deep either). If she's there out of character anyway, you might as well go the full bore.
I fail to see how Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep (when she's there anyways) can be any big surprise compared to what we saw in FotR. It's no stretch of the imagination....Why do you want it both ways?

I'd give you a more serious answer if you weren't so sarcastic. But it basically comes down to me not wanting to see her fighting side by side with Aragorn. I don't see her charachter up to now as being agressive, and I'm very sorry you couldn't pick up the more subtle parts of her acting. If you pay attention to Liv Tylers performance, you will note that she is hardly agressive. It won't be in charachter to have her fighting. When I say "in charachter" I mean that purely in relationship to her charachter from FotR.
Maybe you see things differently Thorin, but personally I haven't been offended by the changes to Arwen's charachter so far. I like the way she's heading. I think it would somewhat ruin it if she was standing on the front lines next to Aragorn. Check out the preview, where Aragorn stares forward into an army of tens of thousands of orcs at Helm's Deep. This is his war. Check out the scene where Theodens squire is fitting on his armour. This is his war. Check out the looks on Legolas and Gimili. Arwen just doesn't fit there by thier side. And I can assure you she won't be. I can't gaurantee she won't kill an orc, but she deffinitely won't be there on the front lines.
My evolving theories on Arwens role has come to this: We know from the screenshots and the preview that the refugees from Rohan will be focused on a bit more then they are focused on in the books. This on it's own is great, because it will help strengthen our hate towards Saruman. We see a few screenshots of these refugees in Helm's Deep. My theory is that Arwen will be put in charge of protecting these refugees.

I apologize for my sarcasm, it is not directed at you....I just don't understand how anyone can have a problem with a fabricated role and be concerned where this fabrication goes when there is no standard to judge it by, because it stopped being Tolkien's character at the Fords....She doesn't belong at Helm's Deep, guarding riding or hunting down an orc....Why should it be such a problem if she is her own character now? Who cares what she does? It has already deviated so far from the story.
I also fail to see how wielding a sword and facing down nine of the most frightening beings on ME is not considered agressive....Also sneaking up on a ranger and putting a sword to his throat implies great hunting and warrior skills.....As I said before...You can't have it both ways....The very reasons why people have defended her revamped role are the very reasons why she could very well be fighting at Helm's Deep (and the very reasons why PJ actually filmed scenes with her fighting)....Now all of a sudden, this is a problem? Kinda sounds like it's all coming back to haunt the defenders....
I said it could get out of control and it is....If you liked her created this way, accept the obvious ramifications of where it can go.....PJ's Arwen could very well be fighting at Helm's Deep....
The fact is, is that he should have left it alone from the beginning instead of creating such an ambiguous alteration (is she warrior or princess? warrior? princess? warrior?.....) If he would have kept her in Tolkien's character and created more scenes, this ambiguity of where she belongs and what she should be doing would never be happening....

First of all, when I defend her charachter in FotR it is done regardless of what happens in TTT. I may very well be arguing against her in TTT. It all depends on how it turns out.
Secondly, I still must defer on her agressiveness. Sure, her sneaking on a ranger is witty at the very least, and facing the Nazgul cannot be simply tossed aside, but I don't get the impression she is a warrior. She is deffinitely far more dominant then she was described in the book and appendices, but that doesn't make her a warrior. Facing the Nazgul is one thing, but actually trading blows is quite another. Part of the reason I'm not convinced of her agressiveness is because of the fact that we havne't seen her truly fight yet. The most she has come to fighting has been putting her sword up to Aragorn's neck, and I saw that more as play then anything else.
Maybe if her charachter had been left alone after the Ford I could imagine her fighting at Helm's Deep, but with intimate scenes by Aragorn I can't see it any longer. It just won't fit her.
And finally, I am struck again by the fact that you are taking "change-or-no-change" attitude. That is, once a change has been made it doesn't matter how far that change goes. To me, even though Arwen has been changed that doesn't mean she's justified to do anything. There is room for subtlety here. You surely don't believe that accepting changes to Tolkiens work means accepting any and all changes? There is a line that eventually must be drawn. For you that line is apparently very close to Tolkiens written word. For me that line is a bit farther off. That doesn't mean that I don't have a line, however. At a certain point even the most liberal fan must question something. Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep, specifically fighting side by side with Aragorn, doesn't pass under my judgement. Having said that, I don't think it would be in charachter under the circumstances of PJ's film, and so I don't think it will happen.

If that it is the case and PJ feels the same way, why did he even FILM those scenes of Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep? To give him some options? I think if he honestly felt that way and wanted to set limits on Arwen's character, he wouldn't have filmed those scenes.....But he did.....Did PJ only cut those scenes, not because of literary integrity, but for the same reason Galadriel's gift giving ceremonies were cut from FoTR?
I would like to know PJ's intentions for filming and not putting it in.

First of all we don't know exactly what her role in Helm's Deep is/was to begin with. PJ will need to set up the circumstances of Arwen being at Helm's Deep, and what her role is. Whatever that may be, I highly doubt it was a warrior. I just really doubt that was the reason she was there. Having said that, having her fight there can mean a lot of different things. It can mean anything from leading an attack to killing a single orc and being heavily wounded herself. There are nuemerous possibilities. Don't necessarily assume the worst.
If my understanding of Helm's Deep is correct, PJ filmed different scenarios. Here's why: Originally, when the films were still with Miramax and it was only 2 films, PJ wrote the script so that the first film climaxed and ended with Helm's Deep. He set up the whole chain of events so that Helm's Deep would end the film. Having gotten 3 films that are 3 hours long a piece, things changed. Would Helm's Deep still end the movie? We don't know. My prediction is that Helm's Deep or the storming of Isengard by the Ents will be the climax (most likely the latter). In either case I think this leaves a lot of doors open, we'll have to see. I think PJ filmed as much as possible in order to leave as mant doors open as possible.

Okay, I wouldn't even DARE to get between the both of you, I have seen some of your other debates in other threads, but I of course need to butt in every now and then, and I would like to say that I agree that Arwen is not the fighting type based on what I have seen of her so far, she is very strong, as in strong-minded or strong-willed. She defied the Nazgul at the Ford, but then she cried and held Frodo when she thought he was pretty much done for, even though she didn't even know him. This shows us the side of her as seen in the book, womanly and gentle as would such an elf be expected of, but I think that in the movies they are trying to bring out the qualities of her that were there but not dwelt on in the book, she is after-all, the daughter of the great and wise Elrond, and is said to be very much like her ancestor Tinuveil, who had very strong qualities and accomapined her beloved Beren in many perilous situations. (Forgive me if I misspelled any names). But also, I wonder how far PJ will take the expression of this strong side when it comes to Helm's Deep, I suppose we'll have to wait and see. I personally am not too worried about what will happen, whether she will fight or not. I freaked when I saw in earlier previews of FOTR and saw Elrond in battle, as such did not happen in the books, but then it ended up just being a little deal showing the events leading up to the story. Perhaps this will be the same.

I can't get over Gimili's armour. It's just so damn detailed. Weta is really going to need to go on a museum tour or something. Or maybe just show the armour on the DVD. I can't believe so much work was put into something that is hardly shown on-screen. Crazy film people... :)

The pic of Faramir is cool!. I don't know if you americans know him, but thats David Wenham. Hes been in series like 'sea change' and movies like 'the bank'. Hes pretty well known down here in Australia, and don't worry, i have every confidence he'll do the role of faramir proud!;)

I love the look of the rangers on his side. They look just percisely as Tolkien described them! Well, they don't look like Boromir really (Frodo said they reminded him of Broromir), but that would really be impossible to do. Unless they somehow spoke like him, but I didn't get the impression Boromir spoke in a far different tone then Aragorn or anyone else.
Look at Faramir's armour. That's the white tree, isn't it? Not to mention his bow... It's just about his own height, which is what Tolkien said about their bows. Even if the movie doesn't follow everything plot or dialogue-wise, visually it's meticulously detailed after Tolkiens writing.

save the picture to your computer as a jpg. or something of the sort file...bitmaps are too big (it took me a while to figure that out)
at the bottom of the "post reply" page, theres a thingy...it says Attach File, then there's a box and a button that says browse.
press browse and choose the file you wanna attach, press ok an then send the reply

I saw a thing where you could buy a replica of Arwen's necklace (sorry, I just remembered when I saw Aragorn wearing it in the pic). But anyway, Eomer doesn't look quite like I pictured, I was thinking more of a softer look to him, more cute.

yeah, I had expected that too... But maybe this is just his battle-gear and does he wear other stuff when not fighting (although that happens not so often). But it does look cool, would that I had such amazing stuff....

Eomer? Cute?
Eomer is the full embodiment of what Faramir refers to when he talks about how the Rohirrim have become a people who fight for the sake of fighting. I have always taken this point to heart. Although Rohan are allegedly one of the "good" people, if you look between the lines you can recongnize that they aren't all great and merciful. At several points it's made clear that they love war, and there aren't any Rohirrim charachters such as Faramir that show us the more rich and diverse aspects of thier tribe. Even without the Appendices it's apparent that Tolkien went to great lengths to add subtleties. I've always recognized the fine line between Rohan and Gondor, although obviously it's easy to see how the vast majority of readers would assume that socially they aren't very different.
