View Full Version : A Guild for the Forum Dinosaurs!

I have made a formal request to the Webmaster to introduce a new Guild targeted specifically at our more mature (basically over 30s) members, to get together and discuss all things Tolkien over a pipe, a jug of ale and fine fayre on the lawn.
The Webmaster has kindly granted me this opportunity to open the floor to all members who would see themselves as potential candidates for this Guild. Should the 'music' be favourable, the Webmaster will give life to this Guild and a vision will become a reality.
The Guild name would be 'The Guild of Ost-in-Edhil' otherwise known as 'The Fortress of the Eldar', which speaks volumes for those who would grace its courts and gardens.
My reasoning is to create a Guild (clique, some might say:) ) of the disenchanted, middle-earthen generation who are lost in the mire of industrial and technological advances and yearn for the days of a simpler life, when Dragons roamed, Bombadil sprang from hillock to fen, the forests spread from shore to shore upon Middle-Earth and Numenore was but an island with one coconut tree!
Furthermore, I envisage debate, both within the confines of the 'Fortress' but also against those other Guilds who have a membership of bright young stars willing to pit their wits against the forum Eldar on any given subject. I see intellectual warfare brewing on the horizon, with each Guild setting itself apart and finding an identity that unfetters its wordsmiths, orators and loquacious conjurors.
Membership to 'The Guild of Ost-in-Edhil' will be open to all who can answer an emphatic YES to the above statement, and those who qualify by birthright.
Please register your thoughts and interest below.

And of course, I will have to be your first candidate member, Anc. I humbly offer myself for membership. I ain't too smart but I make up for that with my innate evilness. :)

Well I don't hit thirty for another two months - but it's a great idea Ancalagon. I'd love to be a part of it - now or whenever I'm deemed venerable enough for the honour.

Most Noble Fellow Dragon......I can most definitely say an emphatic YES to the required criteria! My thanks for your inestimable consideration!

I am grateful that you feel this Guild has a little something especially for you; though 2 months remaining Turgon? Hmmm, I will have to then do 7doubles the courtesy of allowing his entrance to the Guild also, as honourary tea-boy, since he is so young! Youngest of all I deem, but I think acceptable none-the-less. Of course all depends on the cemocratic vote that would need to be taken when the Guild opens:)

Chrysophalax, sister of thy dragon-brood, come and join us as we toast the days long past when you and I were but serpents with naught but a small fire in our bellies.

We few, we happy few, shall we not band together and in so doing remember to those swalding babes that youth and valour are never to be the match of age and cunning.
Let the games begin

Though it pains me to admit it, if I subtracted your minimum age from mine, I would STILL be old enough to vote, alas. I would happily join your fraternity, but I must tell you that I am about to leave for an extended period of field work and it may be many weeks before I again have access to a computer. So if you admit me to your brethren, forgive me in advance for not taking active part for a while.

"This is going to be a laugh-and-a-half!" he says.

JeffF, you are very welcome to this group of growlers, though as for learning from us....? Having read through your thread on armies in Middle-Earth, I would say we have great deal to learn from you. I look forward to the discussion also.

Question. What if I wish to respond or ask a question directly to the 'dionasaur guild' would that be allowed. I understand that at least the RPG part is oldies only. But I still have this question about what Tolkien Biography is the best one to read, and my guess is that my chances of getting an awnser are much higher in your particular part of the forum.:)

I would not stop anyone from asking a question in our Guild, nor do I think would anyone else. Please feel free to post away, none of us are Ogres, well I suppose that is always up for debate:)

Can any of us youngens pop in every now and then? Take it as guests if you will. And if we do we have to write guest as our CUT's to show that we are, and soon as we leave we can change 'em back. What do you say Anc?

Don't change your CUT just for us, thats going a bit too far. Just put something like "guest", "visitor", "youngun", "Don't remember the eighties" or "Whats a K.I.TT" in the subject line.

ps. Brownie points for anyone under thirty who knows what K.I.T.T. was.

Okidoki, I'll post my question in the Dragons den.
As far as I know, It's a car David hasselhoff could yell at through his wrist-watch. But my parents had to tell me what was going on because I couldn't read subtitles yet.:)

Anc, just let me know where and whe for this new collest of the cool guild and I will make a humble appearance....yeah right.
