:D I would never go for QLD in State of Origin. :D I go for the Canterbury Bulldogs in NRL, and i don't like AFL. I don't just go for the Bulldogs because they have a winning streak, but because that is the area I come from. I also come from the St George area, and never would I go for them...NEVER!! I think that NSW should have won State of Origin. Andrew Johns is my favourite NRL player- captain of the Newcastle Knights, the NSW State of Origin team and the Australian team:D. He's cool. I really hope that you like NRL, coz' I'm obsessed with it...hehe :D

although u say his is a ql room i'm a nsw's....er
if anyone else wanders into the midst of this thread b sure to pm me i'd like the company of an aussie even though it's about 6 months old
ps i found it amusing that this is a ql room and nsw is currently winning the poll......;)
Samwise_hero- how about making this into a Guild Of Australians???
You'd get quite a few more members that way!
I'd join :P
Samwise_hero
01-17-2003, 01:04 AM
Ok, with much deliberation and a good idea i hereby make this the guild of Australian's (and the crowd rises in an uproar of cheers). You know this guild started od as the guild of queenslanders then it became the guild of NSW'ers and now it's for all of you aussies out there. so come in sit back and enjoy the aussie atmosphere.

hey guys me again i just saw the most halarious thing
i hired out the lord of the rings animated, made in 1978 or something---it was pretty good for a cartoon made in the 70's.
I was actually suprised to see familiar scenes and can see where pj gets some of his ideas. But the characters and the voices are ****, not to mention the orcs and gollum was good but the actor should be shot it was just someone talking normaly and adding in a few preciouses.
It's good for a laugh!:D:p
Samwise_hero
02-19-2003, 02:28 PM
i still want to rent that out and watch it so don't spoil it too much. :):p
Cool, I might look into that.
Btw, who do you think will win the ING Cup Final between WA and NSW?
I've got tickets, and will be barracking for the good ol' sandgropers:D
Samwise_hero
02-21-2003, 06:57 AM
i have no clue, though i don't really follow cricket between the states. i do follow some australian matches though.
So how is everyone on this glorious day? (please excuse me, i'm just happy coz i've finished another week of yr 12 and i'm still alive):p

It is RAINING!!!!!! YIPPPEEE!!!!!!
I live in sydney and it has been constantly raining all day!!! And the news says that it will rain for the next few days as well. Except I have heard that the rest of nsw (the western end) is going to miss it, it is going right past them. Soon sydeny will be flooded and the rest of nsw will still be declared drought regions.
Please remember that it is not just the eastern states who are in drought.
Most of WA is also in drought.
(We are always forgotten by you nasty eastern staters ;) )
Although the predictions for this year state that the drought may break.
Btw, The AFL season starts tonight!
Yay!
The new rules for the Wizard Cup bother me though, as they may teach the players bad habits for the regular season.
Also, Samwise_Hero, could you PM one of the Mods and ask them to change the name of this thread to "Guild of Australians"?
That way it can match my spiffy signature!!
:D

i'm convinced it's the fact our school photos are on. We have one of our worst droughts, and when it time for photos......
Only a Queenslander could possibly like Rugby League....
Bleh!;)
OK, nothing shall be mentioned of the disaster of the ING Cup Final.
As far as I'm concerned, it didn't even happen.;)

what a wweek for NSW
then slaters double century....
and the 9 point rule is awesome
allthough, i dont think anything will help my beloved swannies this year
Well, you may have won the ING Cup, but do not speak too soon about the Pura Cup match. Rogers and North have just scored 150s for WA, so the game isn't over yet!
There are 2 other sports with WA vs NSW battles currently
In the basketball, Sydney Kings are 1st on the ladder, and the Perth Wildcats are 2nd.
In the soccer, Perth Glory will finish 1st on the ladder, and Sydney Olympic will finish 2nd.
And we shall se about the footy.....Freo and West Coast look like they will have good seasons this year.

Excuse me all who are basketball fans but have you heard how the Townzville Crocs have been kickin' Hiney!!!! 16 wins straight!!!
Not bragging or anything!:p
Oh, by the way all is alright in the land of oz! All i've seen for the past week is rain and i'm not complaining. when it rains i thrive!
Samwise, Samwise, Samwise....
Let me remind you that my team (Perth Wildcats) and Omni's team (Sydney Kings) are both ahead of your flukey team ;)
There's been no rain in Perth for a while now.
It was a nice 30'C today.
I think it's been raining in the WA agricultural areas though.
Which is good, since I'm an Agricultural student at uni, and more rain means more jobs!
Yay!
Finduilus- Australia is wonderful, you should come here some day. I've never spoken to anyone who has disliked it when they've come here.
the scenery is magnificant, and I've been told that Aussies are fairly nice people.
One really good thing about Australia is that OsamaBinLaden doesn't know where it is! He thinks that Australia is Austria! lol!:D

Lol, fool he is! Anyway, if I come one day (which,by the way, is my childhood dream) I'll let you know to show me around, ok?:)
OK, you'll need to set aside a lot of time though.
Australia is a large country with heaps of different things to see.
Every corner of Australia is different.
There are the rainforests and reefs of Queensland, the mountains of New South Wales and Tasmania, the snow fields of Victoria and NSW, the deserts and plains of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Uluru and the Olgas in the NT, as well as the vineyards of South Australia.
And there is much more!
I have been lucky enough to have gone travelling around Australia when I was young, so I have seen almost all of it (everything bar Tasmania), so if you need to know anything, just ask me, or any of the other Aussies for that matter.

Oh, by the way, is there a town where architecture is well-developed? I'd like to study and specialise there if it is possible of course.
Adelaide is known as the City of Churches, so you're bound to find some good buildings there.
Sydney and Melbourne would also be a good bet.
In Sydney there's the Sydney Opera House, Center Point Building and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. They sound right up you're alley.
You must remember that Australia isn't very old, so the buildings aren't as ancient as they are in Europe.

Yeah, it's definitely not the place you wanna come to if you've only got a week or two for your vacation time. If you're gonna come all that way to get here, then you've gotta stay for awhile so you can see it all. :) There's still plenty of Australia that I haven't seen myself.
Oh, and regarding basketball, I have a couple friends who bought season tickets for the Bullets this year. Man did they feel ripped off. ;)
Did any of you guys see Comedy Inc.'s LOTR Parody?
I couldn't stop laughing!:D
"The audience is getting bored! It's time for another battle."
lol
And then the LOTR nerd comes along (reminds me of most of this forum) and complained about the accuracy:D
Yes, I saw that!! I loved it! Esp the part where the purist got his head lopped off *evil laugh*, "it definitely didn't happen like this in the book." LOL! Loved Gollum too, and how the third personality popped into his conversation with himself. And Frodo popping the Ring in the mail, then having it arrive broken. Ah, it's good to see decent sketch comedy making a comeback. :D
lol
And when Gollum was eating McDonalds!
hilarious!!
And they had Eddie McGuire in the Fellowship! hahahahaha

Yes. I suppose we could have some kind of lessons first, prepared by you, the Australians, of course and then you could test us and you as well.
How about it?
Otherwise I don't see the point of this guild.

Tests, huh? I promise to study!!!
Hmm, OK when I get some time, I'll make one up for you two.
Here is a couple of 'practise' questions for you.
PQ1/ What does 'To go off like a bucket of prawns in the hot sun' mean?
PQ2/ What is the highest mountain in Australia?
Lossengondiel

1) If someone 'goes off like a bucket of prawns in the sun', they mean that they lose their cool
2) The highest mountain in Australia is Mount Kosciusko
So how did I do?
Samwise_hero
03-16-2003, 08:06 AM
i could write up a whole test on things about Australia and people could take it then PM their answers back to me and i'll make up some kinda system that defines people at different levels of expertise.
Kinda like the one they used to have in the guild of Tolkienologists.
Sound like a good idea? It'll probably take about a week to find questions and answers between school, work and commitments. So who's for it?
I'll type up a few questions for you if you want, S_H
Loss- I'll give you 1 out of 2
The first answer should have been "To create a commotion"

what do u guys think of the war? i think we'll kick iraqy arse . but it's still a disgrace
Yes, our SAS commandos are doing brilliantly in Iraq atm.
I believe that they are the farthest into Iraq out of all the allied troops.
Our navy is doing well too; the HMAS Anzac was providing cover fire for US Marines, and the HMAS Kanimbla intercepted an Iraqi tugboat filled with 68 seamines and many Iraqi soldiers.
The air-force isn't doing too badly either, with the F/A-18 fighter jets flying many sorties.
This war may be a 'disgrace', but it must be done. It the allies don't stop Hussain, he will end up killing many more people than the coalition do in this war.
Australia has to assist the Americans. We are getting into a huge international debt, and by doing this, we will go a long way towards rectifying it with a free-trade agreement with the US.
The 'protestors' are starting to irritate me too. If you took out all the greenies, bush-ferals, rent-a-crowds and schoolkids there would be a very small crowd indeed. They have even been damaging Labour buildings (even though Labour is against the war), proving that they are just protesting for the thrill of it.
The Australian people (and the rest of the world) should stop the protesting, and start supporting our troops. I'm sure all this protesting (and resulting violence) is not good for troop moral.
The US/British/Australian governments will not stop this war now- by backing out, the international humiliation would be too much.

hey slow down there buddy! I think it's "disgrace" that there are any wars in the first place. And i know it can't be avoided and i'm glad that the aussies went to war cos i know its necessary and i also think that the protesters are mindless losers who are bored and think they know what they are talking about when in fact they need to wake up and be grateful that ppl are willing to die for them just cos someone said so
i just think it's a disgrace that humans kill eachother it makes me hate them. humans suck.
Virtually every species of animal kills itself.

Smeagol444, I agree with everything you said. I don't want our "brave young men and women" (how many times did that phrase turn up during the oscars?) in Iraq either, but I do want Iraq to be liberated from mindless dictators.

2. Who won the state or origin between nsw and qld last year?

8. In which Australian TV soap does actress Tamin Sursok play Danny Sutherland?

I went and saw Ned Kelly on the weekend. It was pretty good, but a bit more violent than I expected. But I guess it was rated MA before the director got it down to M. I'm a New South Welshman. I only discovered this forum today.
I saw Ned Kelly. I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the big Glenrowen scene. Very Impressive.
What else do we talk about? I can't stand Rugby League. I don't think much of our PM. I think the best TV station in Aus. is SBS.

Yes, Rugby League is a terrible game, that's why you should support AFL. :D
Not many people think much of our PM, but what's the alternative? Simon Crean? LOL- that would be even worse.
I'm afraid we'll have to put up with good ol' Lil' John for a bit longer- he's the best we've got. (And the current popularity polls prove that.)

*Shudders at the thought of John Howard being the best wev'e got*.
AFL is OK I spose. I prefer soccer. Although the local stuff is a bit lacklustre.
Well, not my team...(Perth Glory) :D
I'm getting sick of NSW teams beating WA teams...(basketball, cricket, etc....) Sydney Olympic had better not win the soccer :p
Sador
04-22-2003, 09:47 AM
If the local soccer comes back to SBS where it belongs maybe I'd be able to see some of it. I think Seven bought the rights just to keep it off the air. Perth seem to be the only team with a proper fan base(I mean you don't have to be Italian or whatever to support them).
Hehe, yes

Is anyone here interested in the State Of Origin? Anyone! The Blues are gonna kick Maroon hiney this year! GO THE BLUES!!!!!
Bleh- Rugby
I went and saw the Australia vs. Ireland game the other day.
I would have to say it was the most boring event that I've ever seen. The night was only saved by the abundance of food in the VIP Box that I was in. :D
I watched Lawn Bowls last night and there was more excitement...

There is nothing wrong with rugby!!! It's definatly more exciting than lawn bowls. I don't know why coz i don't normally watch any games except the state of origin coz then i can go for the blues and annoy all the queenslanders around me.

Peh, WA dont know the meaning of the word rugby ;)
although AFL is a great game, it doesnt have any special inter-state rivalry :p (i mean, most(non victorian) teams have a few players of the other states in them. It just doesnt have that high quality game which it needs....like for instance a whole victorian team, vs the rest)
and union does suck,
BUT GO THE BLUES

Yeah! I fellow Blues supporter! I have finally found someone! You know how hard it is to find a blues supporter when you live with a bunch of Queenslanders! Not to mention go to school with and work with them!
I don't mean to sound like i'm bashing the awesome blues but i don't think they'll win the next game. they'll either lose or draw and then win the third. YEAH! I have it all worked out!
Why do you barrack for Carlton?
They are a terrible team.;)

Ok, now that is definately WEIRD! Riding kangaroos to work. Hmm......i guess we Aussies are a little warped........
Hey has anyone seen that Bruce Almighty movie? I reckon it;s pretty cool. But what i'm really hanging out for is the second charlie's angels movie! Chic's Kickin' Hiney!!! We are capable of looking out for ourselves!

omnipotent_elf
07-16-2003, 01:55 AM
fine then, have u seen the new charlies angels movie?
Nope, and don't plan to either.
I saw the trailer for it before the Matrix movie, and it looked terrible.
The helicopter-down-the-dam scene looked ridiculous.
Oh, and Omni: Swans vs. Freo
Dockers are goin' to win ;)

I saw the first Charlie's Angels movie at the movies and at the time it was pretty cool but the second one looks kinda dodgy. I don't know why. i guess my taste in movies has changed too. i prefer Arnie in the Terminator now! GO ARNIE!!! By the way who here has seen that//? I have! IT's AWESOME!

T3 was so much better than I expected it to be. It had his bare bum AND a Commando line. How awesome is that!? Very, before anyone answers my rhetorical question with a negative. Cankers to all the T3 nay sayers, hurray!

Hmmm......i reckon the best part of the movie was when the T-X blew up! The screeching metal monster looked interesting when it was just about to blow up! Death comes swiftly to those who least expect it.

I've got a question, do you guys have Outback steak house in Australia? You probably don't I just thought I'd ask.
Samwise_hero
08-27-2003, 03:59 AM
I think we do actually have outback steak houses it really depends where you are.
oh by the way i was just wondering where everyone got to.....this place is a little lonely with no one dropping in to say hi.

Thats like them having "Red Lobster" in Alaska.

I've never seen an "Outback Steakhouse" in Australia. I've had steaks in the outback, I've been to the "Black Stump" steakhouse and I've had bacon and eggs in a Roadhouse.
I haven't seen any of those either.
All we get in Perth is the "Lone Star Steakhouse"
But I think it's more of a Texan thing than Australian.

On the way back from Sydney a couple of years ago we stayed at this place in the middle of nowhere and there was a steakhouse there.........dunno if that was what you meant........
Anyways speaking of places where food is made, what's your favourute restaurant?? I luv Subway......EAT FRESH!!!! LoL!
I don't like their ads.
They are rambling on about how fresh their salads are, when I know for a fact that they get them from the same place as Hungry Jacks/Burger King.
Also, I hate their American Ads. Why can't they at least make an Australian version? Those Yankee accents are sooooo irritating.
btw, I no longer consider Aussie Rules Football a sport. :(
Soccer is know my game!
Wooo! Go Perth Glory!!! Wooo! :D
omnipotent_elf
09-06-2003, 01:34 PM
frontrunner :p
i hate yankee adds too...
favourite resturaunt....umm........*sees massive pizza walk by*...um....... pizza hut
Samwise_hero
09-10-2003, 07:15 AM
I agree that the Yankee add's suck but the accents aren't that bad.......i guess i'm just a little sick of my Aussie one i've had it for over 16 years. I think it's time for a change! That's it, i'm moving to ..........ummmm..........AMERICAAAAAA!!!!! Lol! NOT! Though i would like to go there one day, England first though...how bout you guys?
No, not America.
I'd like to go to Britain, South Africa, and the Alps in Europe.
Oh, and Canada.
Samwise_hero
09-11-2003, 03:15 PM
I suppose you could say that anyplace would be better than where you are right now. America isn't the only place i want to go to....there's Egypt, Paris, England, Alaska or Antarctica....... and to New Zealand again. It's so beautiful and real there. There's barely any real built in areas except for in the main cities.

Alaska is in America, I've been there, its awsome. Thats all I can say.
Samwise_hero

That's is why i said OR Antarctica coz Antarctica isn't in America.
By the way, why does everyone vote for NSW? Oh......QLD got another vote!!! Yeah!
