Of course not! I would say Ian McKellen, or maybe Sean Bean.

Ian Mckellan! He did the best job portraying Gandalf. GO IAN! My second choice would be Sean Astin.

Ah, yes Sean Bean. Who would have thought that Sheffield was in Gondor? I do like Elijah a great deal but actually it was Dom Monaghan and Billy Boyd who really impressed me. And John-Rhys Davis u for acting so well under that mass of hair and make-up. And the two Sir Ians of course!
By the way, does anyone else think there's little too much green going on at the mo? Let's brighten things up a bit. It's like a bloomin' swamp!

There's a lot of green, but it was really hard to read what you typed. I had to hilight it to see it. Dark colors don't work very well on green.

Sir Ian did a great Gandalf. Sean Bean would be my second choice. Bean was very 'Boromirish' and he was perfect for the part.

I think that Orlando Bloom did an awesome job at portraying Legolas. And either Billy Boyd or Elijah Wood would be my next choice. :D

Hmmm...weird how noone mentions either Aragorn(Viggo Mortensen) or Legolas(Orlando Bloom)...
Well I was shocked about all of them when I saw the movie for the 1st time but after seeing it a couple of times I kinda grew to like all of them:confused:
Still,Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett are my first choices.

Hmm..in the first movie? Um, probably Sir Ian. He's just...Gandalf. I also think that Elijah played the role of Frodo subtly and effectively, saying more with a facial expression than many actors can do with volumes of script. He's one of the best around, even at his age--just take a look at some of his past work.
I do believe that Sean Astin is going to shine in the next films. Look at all the incredible stuff that Sam has to do in the next films!
Sir Ian said in an interview somewhere (don't ask me to remember where) that both Sean and Elijah will have Oscar nominations for ROTK. Based on the reactions I've read from the cast and crew at some scenes in these films, and the quality I've seen in these guys (both in FOTR and other films), I think he's most likely right.

I don't think "hotness" has anything at all to do with talent. Does one have to be young and lovely to be talented these days? Sir Ian McKellen is one of the most talented actors around, and he's no spring chicken.
Of course the inverse can be true, too..one can indeed be young, lovely, and talented--just look at Elijah.
I had a point once, but I lost it.
