Are you refering to the cheezy cartoon? I watched it about a year ago. I was really looking forward to it, but I was let down big time. It's definately a kids movie (a lame one at that).

Yes I was pretty disappointed by it too. But I can't blame it for being childish, as the book is written in a very "childish style" IMO.

I thought it was ok, but compared to the LOTR movie it is cheap and cheasy.

I've been a fan of the Rankin-Bass cartoons since they were made.
They are for children. With this kept firmly in mind, the cartoons are more than tolerable -- they are even enjoyable.

You have to remember A) That it WAS a kid's show, B) It was made for Television and C) It was made in a different time then today, long before Ren and Stimpy or other kids animated shows when concepts like Death were not thought to be proper to address in a kids animated show on television. Also you have to bear in mind, this WAS Rankin&Bass...the people who brought you "Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer" and "Frosty the Snowman".
I've never liked the Hobbit. I Remember when i was young i used to listen to the old read along story book and tape. The cartoon and the book both scared the **** out of me. Yeah, it was definetely cheasy!

I was disappointed in the animation mostly. The characters didn't look anything like I thought they would. And yeah, it was cheesy but I guess u have 2 remember it was supposed 2 be a kid's movie.

I had no problem with the animation. I didn't like the scenes with spiders, I know it was a kids movie...but man...I was really looking forward to that scene and I hated the way they dealt with it.
Oh well...
I think we should start a petition to get Spielberg to do a Hobbit movie!!!:D

I think that for its time it wasn't so cheap, but now with all these super-productins for hundreds of millions seems to be very very cheap.
I think Gil-galad does have a point. I guess if you look at it now, its cheasy...but i guess for its time....

Hmmm. I never like it. It mad me quite angry. I was more of a kid when I read the book for the first time then I am now as I was when I first watched the movie. I thought it was cheesy and they did the characters awfully. I had to read the real one again to get those horrible images out of my head.

I didn't like it, and that's mainly because it was "just another cartoon". I love cartoons, and I love "The Hobbit" (the book), but this was nothing worthy of Tolkien's book; it was just another cartoon, nothing special. It was obviously made for kids, which I guess is OK, but look at all the really good cartoons out there; they're made with greater sophistication and humor, which means that adults can enjoy them at least as much as the kids. The cartoon version of "The Hobbit" just doesn't cut the muster.

I find Gandalf's voice very irritating.
And that awful singing!!
Where did they drag that from!

The director was probably low on his $100 budget so just sang himself:D

I didn't like it, but I actually sort of liked the Lord of the Rings cartoon.
