OK a Dark Legion discussion...
What in your opinion was the finest hour of the forces of darkness in Tolkien's work?
There's lots to choose from... we did so well!!!
I thought the Witch-Kings victory over Arnor was near the top... but how about Sauron getting the Numenoreans to invade Valinor... LMAO! An awesome move....:D
What do you think???

I would have to say Melkor and Ungoliant stealing the light from the Two Trees. That certainly caused much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth among all the lesser beings of ME!
And, of course, the Dragonish side of me has to include one OF the more insidiuous pieces of single-handed evil by the great Glaurung as he poisoned the minds of Turin and Niniel...aaaAHAHA!!

Yes poisoning the 2 trees was good work.
What about forging of the one ring? There's that one beautiful moment when Celebrimbor gets his wake-up call as Sauron puts on the One Rings... 'Oh Sh*t!!':D

Man, I wish I could remeber the names.............It was in the Sim. It was Melkor vs some king guy, can't remeber his name, but his sword was described as icy blue(yes I remeber the sword, but not the name of the guy). Anyway in the end Melkor crushed him with his foot and everyone was sad.:( MUAHAHAHAHAGHAH:D :D :D

Hehe guessing you mean the Sil, and not the Sims eh Nain?;):D
If so I think you mean when Melkor trashed Fingolfin, High King of the Noldor. A great deed for sure!

yes that was it. And yes I did mean the Sil not the Sims(a fun game though):D .

You forget, for that was one of the greatest moments of all that is good in middle earth also, for
"Yet with his last and desperate stroke Fingolfin hewed the foot with Ringil, and the blood gushed forth black and moking and filled the pits of Grond...The orcs made no boast of that duel at the gate...Morgoth went ever halt of one foot after that day, adn the pain of his wounds could not be healed."

I must say that evil's finest hour was Morgoth squeeling like a little baby.
When the big bad spider attacked him.

Hey all, I would just like to say that there was alot of cool thoughts in here. It's been a while since the last thought of the ultimate moment of evil (in here)! There were so many to choose from!
I think the exact second when Melkor looks upon the Sun, he knew then that the world was going to be lighted, and before this time he was having His Way with it, pretty much, and I think it was a sign that His Time was coming. I think he was talking to someone at the time. Wish someone would draw this for me! The Sun in his face...Ha!
Doesn't sound too evil, but you know, guess I'm just weird!

I would have to say one of the pinnacle moments of evil was Gandalf's fall into the abyss in Khazad-dum. This catalyst event results in the dissolving of the fellowship. So much for strenght in numbers :)

Melkor destroying the Great Lamps i think. Or the trees. Or the Fall of Gondolin

Melkor-tipping over the lamps/stabbing the trees and the sun on his face. Melkor was the catalyst for all ruinus deeds!
Plus him making that bad song in the beginning.
:D OK_Melkor's my hero, I'm singin songs in a kareoke bar, blahblahblah.
Another one: That evil-hand that almost got to Frodo. Wasn't that arm...it was crawling on the wall? that sounded pretty evil.
Another one: The Scouring of the Shire
Another one: The eagles flying all the way over the seas to do their mission for Manwe.
Another one: The grinding ice the elves walked over, that was all Feanor's fault! He was folly.
Another one: Morgul's siggy:D
Another one: The Uruks making pippin and mery drink that whiskey ****-water that orcs drink for stamina.
Another one: Poor old Lobelia ...(that old hobbit-lady!).
Another one: Balrogs
Another one: The silmaril getting thrown into the sea.
Another: Turin Tarambar.
Another: Hurin/his end.
OK_so is it bad to be good then? is it good to be bad?

It's both at the same time. Vise versa for good!:D
-->Holy s*it! I just answered my own question! That's wierd.
OK_Another one: When gollum did his best to try and keep the ring for hisself.
"What's it got in it's pocketses then?"...heeheh

All wonderful choices greypilgrim...
My #1 mecca of evil is:
The Battle of the Black gate...
(BEFORE Frodo saves the day)

The greatest thing that evil has accomplished in ME is simply by making the ring. It's so simple yet so evil that it caused turmoil and death everywhere. Even though it was ended by a little lawn ornament with furry feet and a small monkey like creature that looked more like a drug addict than a small lawn ornament with furry hair, the time that the ring existed was great for evil.

We have a thread on Evil's finest Hour, now I would like to know what you think is evils worst hour, with the acception of all events after the battle of the Hornburg.
I for one think it was Dagor Algereb. It is known as the 'Glorious Battle' to the Elves, our enemy. Great Melkor all powerful sent our orcs through the Sirion pass, only to be destroyed by the house of Fingolfin and Meahdros. Very sad time it was...

I agree! The Dagor Argaleb was truly a sad defeat for the evil side. What about Saruman's death? That treatcherous wormtounge stabbing him in the back and all!
And in the hobbit...when Smaug went down, that was pretty bad too...

Smaug was a vain fool! I would never have made such a clumsy mistake!

I would venture to say evil's worst hour is found within the very destruction of evil itself....or destruction as a result of being evil.
a cyclic reasoning regarding the phrase:
'what comes around goes around'
my 2 cents :D
greypilgrim
05-07-2003, 06:05 PM
yes, what comes around does go around.
balrog, are you affiliated with sauronbill, the master of demons? just wondering because your avatar kindof matches his. that's cool. (the avatars)
