Hail Dark Legion members
It has now been more than 3 weeks since Dengen last posted, and he is quite overdue.
Given Dengen's high standing on these boards, the amount of effort and dedication he has shown in the past (and indeed the recent past), I will make no assumption that he will not return. I still believe that he will return, and everything will be done based on that.
However...
It is important to have some idea of what we will do if he does not return, because with each passing day the likelihood of that increases a bit more. I judge that it has now reached the point where we need to plan for a succession should it be needed.
There are two issues at stake:
(1) Rulership of the Mornclaur Federation
(2) Leadership of the Dark Legion.
These positions should be considered seperately at least in the first instance, unless we decide they must be the same person. In fact whoever is the ruler of Mornclaur would have a strong claim to lead the Dark Legion, but I do not believe the leader of the Dark Legion could summarily seize the throne of Mornclaur. So let us debate the leadership of Mornclaur.
To my mind there are only two strong contenders for the position. The first is Tar-Ancalime, as Queen. The second is myself: I could rule as a regent or somesuch.
For myself I can say I do not want this position. For the simple reason that the Forum RP, the war, the councils etc., all of that has lost its lustre. There is a world of difference between role-playing and war-gaming. Role-playing is when people come together to cooperatively create a story. War-gaming is a competitive activity where the objective is to wipe the opposition into the dust. While in character I would enjoy nothing better, ooc I cannot see this working without rules to govern it. I can't see rules being agreed. In any case the appeal to me of this is limited by comparison to the numbered rps, where the story is the objective, and I have only limited time to spare.
Therefore over time my aim is to withdraw from the forum rp, not increase my stake in it.
So my conclusion is, therefore, that the succession is to Tar-Ancalime as of right. Should she choose to rule Mornclaur as its dark queen, let none stand in her way!
I am mindful though that Tar might feel obliged to take this responsibility, without having any real desire for it. This being so, I would ask any other DL Member who would like offer themselves for the role to do so now. However there will be no election: the choice belongs to Tar. Those who would help her rule in some way should also say now.
Let me repeat that this is based only on the possibility that Dengen does not return. Whatever arrangements we agree will only be used after he has been given every chance to return, or has made his own wishes clear. I propose that he is given until the end of July.
The choice of leader for the Dark Legion is a seperate matter, and I will say more in due course.
Can I request that only Dark Legion members reply to this thread. I realise I have made some remarks that may be of interest to others on the forum. If you are not a member and you want to discuss them, please do so in a general forum (or PM me).
My thanks to you all.
