I was just curious to see how everyone would respond to a sorta new thing. It would be sorta like a witch's coven thing. Set up like the necromacer's guild or one of those things. It is just an idea. Tell me if you like it, it is just plain stupid, or it just isn't Tolkien enough. Thanks.

Just post any comments here. Please don't pm me about it unless you have specific questions. Thanks again.

Witches are a part of Tolkien's realm...however, they do not play a very significant role in his stories. However, if you could manage to gather a small gathering of fellow witches.. I see nothing wrong with the creation of a new group.

Hey everyone! I was thinking. Maybe we could have like a In Character Witch's Guild. We would help people. Join journies and quests and things. Sorta like medincine people, but we are witchs and warlocks. Um.... is anyone interested? please???

I think there is one obscure reference made by someone to Galadriel being a witch...Which would lead one to think that the concept existed, but then if one made such presumptions then when Tolkien wrote, "They all ducked, and many fell flat on their faces. The dragon passed like an express train, turned a somersault, and burst over Bywater with a deafening explosion.", one could assume that the Fellowship could have hopped the "Mordor Express" to Mount Doom and forgone all that walking...a train to the east would have changed the story quite a bit!

But so great was the beauty and majesty of the Lady of Dor-lómin that the Easterlings were afraid, and dared not to lay hands upon her or her household; and they whispered among themselves, saying that she was perilous, and a witch skilled in magic and in league with the Elves.respectively in the UT it reads as
But they dared not yet lay hands on the Lady of Dor-lómin, or thrust her from her house; for the word ran among them that she was perilous, and a witch who had dealings with the white-fiends: for so they named the Elves, hating them, but fearing them more.
RW, I guess this is what you're referring to...that would indeed be an obscure reference to Galadriel being a witch...

I think either Eomer or Boromir refers to Galadriel as a witch. Certainly Boromir or Gimli does so in the movie, but I think there's a quote in the books along those lines as well.

*taxing my little bird-brain* ... someone, maybe Eomer, calls her a witch and ****es Gimli off... I think?

*added in edit*- Aragil, feel free to post while I'm posting. You trying to **** me off today?

Not my fault I'm fast on the trigger finger. I'm sure I'll slow with age.

Ouch! It's just that I so rarely have anything to say that is actually relevant to Tolkien in any way, I hate to get scooped.
Not my fault I'm fast on the trigger...
That's just what your girlfriend was telling me.... (I assume this was the "lob")

Since I am neither affiliated with the Dark Legion or the White Council, I would consider joining.

Sorry Arathin, not interested in joining and I don’t mean to hijack your thread again but hey ….. What about the “Witch King of Angmar”? What’s the origin of his name? Walter? Anybody?

Witch-king the many named ;) Also called Witch-lord, Lord of the Nazgûl, Sorcerer King, Wizard-king, Black Captain...

I did not find anything where the name(s) would be clearly explained. The only passage I found concerning a possible origin of the name was in The Peoples Of Middle-earth where it says:
"In Rhudaur an evil folk, workers of sorcery,...not really satisfying, anyways, but maybe I just didn't find the right passage
