View Full Version : Good or Bad? A guild for twenty-somethings

Some time ago, a member of Ost in Edhil challanged other age groups to open their own guilds to see how they would fare in the forum by themselves.
I'm interested in taking up that challange. But I'm concerned that there will not be enough twenty somethings to fill it up.
If you are of this age group, I would like to hear from you. Please let me know if you would be interested in joining. Please be as frank as you please...I want to hear your opinions. I am also very interested in hearing any suggestions for this guild...as I have not made any plans for it yet.
Thanks for your time.

I'm not in the target group for your guild, Elbereth, however I think it a good idea. I hope it works out well...

I fit the profile. I'm not in any guilds here so I'm currious as to what being in the guild would involve.

It's just something a group of people have in common (i.e. being a fan of Gollum).

Ditto what GZ said (his first post)
What would a 20-something guild do?
More in-depth discussion of Tolkien (after the O-i-E model)? Discuss concerns of our generation (like why we're glad that we're not 30 yet)? What would happen to Guild members who turn 30 (hopefully tarring and feathering are involved)?

Maybe a "Logan's Run" kind of thing? Oops, I probably showed my age with that reference.

Mr. Parrot, your suggestion intrigues me. Btw- your palm's blinking.

You got it Aragil. The guild will be all those things...(ok maybe not the tarring and feathering) but it will be very much like the O-i-E model.
And we can add whatever else pops into our heads at the momment. (We twenty-somethings are spontaneous like that afterall...;) ). Give it some thought...if there are enough twenty-somethings who are interested I think we should give it a shot.

“Mr. Parrot”???? Cripes, I’m not that old (okay, maybe I am – happy belated B-day BtW). No, my palm always blinks like that it’s my….. uhhmmm… pager, yeah that’s it, pager… must be the record store telling me my new “EMANDEM” album is in …. I think they’re really… uhhhmm…. boss? NO, PHAT! I MEANT PHAT. …. heh, heh….. TAXI! SANCTUARY!!
I used to be with it, then they changed what it was. Now what was it isn't it, and what is it is weird and scary to me. It'll happen to you too.

No offense Parrot...but Phat went out of style when I was in high school. You're pretty close though...keep trying ;) !

I think he's riding the 'Montana cool language' wave. We're about 1/2 decade behind NYC, linguistically. In fact, I'm not even sure phat has made it here yet. Parrot must have been watching MTV again.
I'd be up for any in-depth discussion of Tolkien. I must say, tarring and feathering 30-somethings is an issue that appeals to me, but only for a few more years. Anywho, I think the British Army is largely 20-something. Perhaps we could fish in the Eastern Waters for more membership?
ps Mr Parrot- that Abe Simpson quote used to be the WM signature.

Well, great minds do think alike. (How’s that for some brazen apple-polishing for my 100th post? Haven’t given up on that promotion.) Wow, five months to get a 100 posts and you twenty-somethings call yourselves “slackers”, well learn from the master, babes.
Elbereth, - dangit! Thanks for bursting my cool bubble! I thought “PHAT” was a like, totally tubular term too!

LOL. 'Tubular'? I'm sure to Elbereth Phat probably is 'like' tubular.
Congrats on 100- I tried to 'lob' an easy one to you in the 'Witches guild' thread (or was it a backhand- tennis terms are so confusing). Anywho, I'm glad to see the original Gen X can still outcompete us in something (i.e. slacking). Tee-hee.

Some time ago, a member of Ost in Edhil challanged other age groups to open their own guilds to see how they would fare in the forum by themselves.
Really, it kind of sounds familiar to me.
I would like it to be a guild for inner disscussions of Tolkien and stuff like that. I´m in that range too. Although age restrictions, i don´t really like them.
Also, a future debate with the Ost in Edhil sounds very appealing to me. I wonder if my friend Saulone would see such a debate.:)

Yes...it will be for "inner discussion of Tolkien" and his works. And I agree, I am not really for age restrictions either...but I think it would be interesting to see how we in our twenties would fare by ourselves.
Oh...and debating Ost-in-Edhil does sound cool. A clashing of the minds is always fun.
Well, if everyone here thinks this guild it is a good idea...let's go ahead & do it!
Before we do open it, however, we need to come up with:
1. A name for the guild
2. A member lists
Any ideas?
and if you would like to join and haven't said so already...please let me know now.
Thanks! :)

How about:
Taratani- '(the) Noble Followers'
or
Perediar- 'Half-old'
I'm not sure I'm forming the words correctly, but how about something along those lines?

'Not it' for organizing this. I nominate Elbereth. Seems like there's enough interest. Time to take the next step?

Well, if all is in favor...say Aye, and I will begin the thread before the end of the week.

Aye.
I am one of those forum fringe dwellers in the twenty-something age group, and I would like to join your guild. I didnt realise there would be enough members of the forum in that age bracket though, everyone seems to be a young teen or over thirty...
Elbereth

That is what I thought too Kat...that is why I started this thread...in order to see if there was enough members interested. Apparently there is just enough to start one. I may open up the guild to 19 year olds as well, since they will be 20 soon enough.
Anyway, I will open the Guild tommorow when I have more time.

The guild has been posted.
It is named: The Guild of Periaur (The Half-Olds)
It is located in the Guilds section at the bottom of the page. I will try speaking to one of the Moderators soon to get our own guild box. Until then you may post your replies there.
