Ok guys...I realize we have all been very busy this summer...that is understandable...but I think we need to revitalize the guild don't you think...I am sure it is starting to get cob webs in the corners from lack of use now, and we can't be having that, can we?.
What do you guys say! Let's revamp this Guild!
With that said, I am going to open the floor for any suggestion on how we can make this place the hot and happening place it has been in the past!

Hello there.
I just registered at TTF, and after checking all guilds I think this is the place I belong to. Anyway, Im 29 and Im about to enter the darker ages of the 30s, but Im in denial and to be part of your guild will help my ego to remain young for a while.
So, what I need to do to join? Please, I dont want to be spanked or anyhting.
Elbereth
08-07-2003, 04:49 AM
Welcome to TTF and to the Guild of Periaur!
I'm sure you will fit in perfectly in this little group. Welcome to the madness!
And no...LOL!!!...there will be no spanking involved to join...we're crazy...but not that crazy in here. ;)
As far as what is expected of you...I think all that is needed is your participation and a little bit of Tween spirit... if you have that...all is good!
In the next few weeks I'm hoping to tranform the Periaur into a full functioning worthwhile, Tolkien-loving guild. I would like to encourage all of the new members and old alike... to begin some new discusions. I want to see some Tolkien related discussions...some discusions on our generation...or whatever else is plaguing your mind at the momment. Let's make this guild something to really be proud of...I know you all can do it! So enjoy and happy posting!!!
Yours in Tween Spirit!

Uh oh, im in both and it is under debate at the moment as to whether you can be in more than one of the main guilds.
Im not sure if the rule is changing to allow it or not  :(
I believe that the Periaur are OK with people from other debating Guilds joining.
You will have to check with GoT first though. If they are fine with it, we'd gladly welcome you into the madness. :)

Thôl, we're discussing the issue in the C9 at the moment. I know it's hard what with our decision making process being so long, but what we've tentatively decided so far is that it's ok to join as many of the main guilds as you want, so long as the other guilds are ok with it.
I personally think the rule should be struck down, but we're still debating that in the C9. :)

A QUICK MEMO FROM THE DESK OF THE GUILD LEADER OF THE PERIAUR
After a brief discussion tonight with Talierin, our resident supermod...The Periaur will not be in danger of closure, as long as we can maintain a healthy level of Tolkien discussion in our guild.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Simple...This means we need to open up more Tolkien related threads and keep these threads active.
I also encourage you to be creative in your thread ideas. Try to find Tolkien-related topics that would pertain or appeal to our generation. Topics that you wouldn't necessarily see in the book sections. Be original, have fun....but please keep it Tolkien-centric. ;)
Let's show the rest of the forum that the Periaur love Tolkien just as much as they do! Show them what you got Tweens!!

This is where I think things are going wrong. We have the book sections to discuss Tolkien, but to preserve our own little corner we enjoy so much, we have to start Tolkie-discussions here, to please the WM and the Mods. As far as I'm aware of it, we Tweens are discussing Tolkien all over the forum and we have a debate team going, which looks like a lot of Tolkien-effort to me.
I believe the current system of Guilds isn't any good. I don't think building Tolkien-threads here will save our Guild for long either.

Dear Periaur,
This is may not be a surprise to most of you...since I have been thinking about this alot in weeks past...But I am contemplating the decision of stepping down as leader of the Periaur.
My decision to do so lies mostly in the fact that I have not had the time to dedicate to the forum as I used to, due to an increase in workload and a boost in my social life.
Now I do take great pride in the Periaur and I want the Periaur to continue to grow and evolve into something really great. Therefore, I want to assure that you guys are being led by the very best.
I have a few members of the guild in mind for the position...however, I would like to hear your opinion on who you think should lead this guild. So please let me know...and hopefully in a couple of weeks, a decision can be made.
Thank you for all of the good times guys and for your continued dedication to the Guild!
Sincerely,
Elbereth

Im taking a guess at that, that you are dropping being the guild leader? Else its a very weird "Im staying" speech ;)
Just wanna say, you made arguably the best guild on TTF, thanx so much for that, and i hope you stay around on TTF still :)
Good bye Miss Leader ma'am :)
Also my ideas on a leader:
Top of my list will be Ninel as she is on a lot and is a very good member of the guild.
Then its Snaga, tho he isnt on much really.
Then its Aulë, but maybe his imature side is a little to big at the moment, maybe the leadership of the guild could change that. . . *shrugs*
I recommend either Legolam or Snaga. Both seem to have a lot of spare time on their hands, and typify your average Periaurian :D (ie, they love to drink ;) ).
And Thol: I don't want the job. I wont be here for the next three months, so there's no point. :p
Niniel

Top of my list will be Ninel as she is on a lot and is a very good member of the guild.
Thanks Thol! *blushes*
But I have no idea what leading a guild involved; maybe Elbe can explain that a bit?
I think legolam or Aulë would be good as leaders of the guild; after all we Periaur are not that old, so a little immaturity doesn't disqualify IMO...
You guys considered anarchy? :)
Snaga
11-11-2003, 12:11 AM
No, Nom, we need to have a leader. So that the rest of us can subvert him/her.:D
Don't pick me. I like to destroy guilds. It would be just too tempting.;) Seriously, I don't really have enough time to do a good job.
Niniel or Legolam would both be great custodians of the poisoned chalice!;)
Elbereth
11-17-2003, 03:42 AM
Well, the fact that no person from the guild has really stepped up to take on the role as leader of the Guild has made my decision very difficult. I don't want to give the position who does not want to put in 100% into the Periaur.
The role as guild leader is simple
....to lead and motivate the guild
....to moderate the guild and make sure it is spam free and on topic
....to come up with new ideas to help grow and expand the guild
....to represent the guild as the quintessential Periaur member.
Very easy actually...;)
Snaga
11-21-2003, 02:10 PM
I am stepping down as Vice President. I won't be around much for the next few months. We also seem to have lost our other officer, namely Gamil Zirak.
Can I suggest that Niniel, Legolam and Thol replace them, and form a Triumverate to run the Guild?
Legolam
11-21-2003, 02:45 PM
I'm flattered to be spoken of as a potential leader of the Periaur, but I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot of spare time to monitor stuff. I'd be more than happy to do it with other people, as this guild seems to be fairly good-natured and doesn't need much moderating (I think!).
Niniel
11-21-2003, 09:52 PM
Same here; I don't have a lot of time, but I would like to represent teh Pariaur as best as I can. Just one practical thing; if a guild leader's job is also to mod the guild, then who of the triumvirate will be that mod?

Hmm....you guys are not making this very easy for me to choose a new leader.
I was hoping a decision could be made by now...but it seems all of the obvious choices for the postion seem to be too busy. Unfortunately electing two or three leaders is not really an option, as the role does have moderating duties...and I'm not sure if two moderating guild leaders are allowed in a guild...nor do I think this guild really needs more than one moderating leader.
Now the other option is I stay on as guild leader...however, I will say ahead of time that I won't be on very often in the months to come...especially during those months that I will be doing business travel. Even during these next few weeks, that i do have time to come online...I can't promise much because I can't give you my full commitment...life is just too hectic now. If you are willing to live with a leader like that...so be it. (although I will feel guilty about it.)
The choice is yours my little Periaur. :o :)

***ANNOUNCEMENT***
After combing the guild for a new leader I have found someone who is willing, if not to replace me, than to serve as leader of Guild of Periaur during my extended leaves of absence.
Therefore, I officially announce the new Vice President of the Periaur:
FoolofATook
He is a Periaur of true tween spirit. A self confessed pop culture geek, FOAT has proven himself to me to exhibit true Periaur spirit. He is funloving yet responsible, proving his leadership skills in the C9 and in the Guild of Tolkienology in months past...and while he has the maturity of an adult...he is still reluctant to give up the joys of youth.
So please join me in welcoming our new Periaur officer!
Congratulations FoolofATook!!!

I'm afraid, you can't be a member of two debating Guilds. And since both The Guild of Tolkienology and The Guild of Periaur are such guilds, you'll have to choose one of them.:) Not easy I know...when I came I applied to the Tolkienologists' Guild and The Guild of Schoolrs and then was informed of the rule...well, make your choice.:)
I'm sure that whatever guild you choose, you'll be of great value to it.:)

Ai! Too bad, I already (withouth thinking! ) applied for Guild of Tolkienology... Don't get me wrong, I would like to be in both guilds...
but I really don't understand this rule... Just because two guilds are debating doesn't mean mutual members can't coexist with others!!! Perhaps they should strictly choose one debate side, or simply restrain from debates...
I wanted to join these guilds primarily for the sake of learning and friendship, not participating in debates.
This rule seems a bit too limitating, in my opinion.
And who says a member that doesn't participate in debates is not an equally important and good a member?!?!?

Wait a second. Hold your horses Findi. ;)
Actually, the rule was changed last year so that it was up to the Guilds to decide if their members could be in more than one debating Guild.
And as far as I know, the Periaur are happy with their members joining other Guilds (I myself am in the Eruhini too). So you should be able to join both Guilds, Melian Le Fay.
Just make sure to allign yourself to only one Guild's debating team during Tournaments. :)
Elbereth (The Periaur Guildmistress) will get back to you shortly regarding membership.

First of all....yes you may join the Periaur. And although most Periaur (esp. of younger age are required to answer a v. simple pop culture question...I'm going to waive that rule for you...I really have no doubt that you fit our requirements to join.
Secondly...you are most certainly allowed to join more than one guild at a time. Yes at one time it was discussed that we shouldn't mix guild members up...but that rule has long been abolished....as it should be.
Yes, it is true...if you want to debate or join a inter-guild contest...you have to decide what guild you want to align yourself with. We Periaur would always love to include new members to our team...but we certainly will not begrudge your participation in another guild's team. But we Periaur are fine debators...we may not take it as serious as the Tolkienologist or the Scholars...who seem to live and breath Tolkien (nothing wrong with that, but most Periaur don't have time for that)...but we are tough and intellegent debators, and we have a fighting spirit that is sometimes unmatched by our competitors. We are the forum rebels....and if you like that...you are more than welcome to join. We would love to have you! :)

Ups...*hides ashamed*
Sorry for that, I really didn't know that the rule was changed.
So, ...welcome in the Periaur too.:D Have a nice membership and debates.;)
Oh, and we are not so devoted,Elbereth.;) Meaning that we do too have personal lives...;)

Oh, guys, I'm sooooo happy I can be in both guilds!!! :D :D :D
I'm very glad the rule has been abolished...or otherwise I would have started a debate on it!!! ;) :p
Hereby I solemnly promise to be a truthfull and devoted member of both respectable Guilds. I will fullfill all my duties and obligations respectably, and I promise not to neglect any of the Guilds!
In case of a Debate between these Guilds I'll consult with Guild masters (or whatever rank necessary) and decide what to do without "compromising" the Debate...
And as for Debate sides... I'm equally attracted to both teams... But I myself haven't got much free time, so... Whatever team excepts me, I'll be overjoyed! :D
Thanks for accepting me, Guildmistress Elbereth! And as for the pop-quiz test, I would love to take it, I'm a sucker for tests! If it's not inconvinient to you, of course!
Oh, and thanks, Findi! Don't worry, I won'd neglect GoT! ;) I noticed you're from Bulgaria! So, we're neighbours! I'm from Serbia!

don't worry, 33Peregrin! you're welcome to join as long as you've got that tween spirit... but, you'll have to "talk" to some of the guild-leaders, just to make it official!

lol, you had me worried for a while there Melian. :D
I looked at your profile, and saw that you had a posting rate of 66 posts a day. Yet I couldn't figure out where you had posted so much. It took me ages to find out that your profile had been restarted from 2002. :p
You should try and get that 'joined' date changed.

He, he...For a moment there it seemed like I had no life. :p
Yeah, I commited a terrible sin, by opening a new account ( I believed my old one was canceled a 1,5 ago), but mods forgave me and merged my two accounts... But I will have that changed, thanks for reminding me! :)

Yes, I have been around the movie forums... :p I've... I don't know what I am going to say. :) Sorry guys, I'm kinda shy. In real life, you wouldn't have even been able to hear me talk a year ago. But I can talk more now... :D I think. :)

Oh, well, what are you gonna do... People quite often ignore me to, but if you just talk enough, there's a greater chance you'll run into people who won't ignore you... ;) Like me! tadaaa... :D
OK, it looks like we have two options for the future of this Guild:
a). Fight like last time, and desperately try and revive the Guild with a bunch of wonderful and inovative ideas.
b). Say our goodbyes, and close the Guild like OiE and GoE have just done.
Elbereth will have the final say in this matter, but what do the remainder of you guys think? (Now that I think about it, Legolam, Niniel, Elbe and myself are the only Periaur left...but oh well.) :(

Hm... oh dear... I must say that at the moment I don't really have the time or inspiration to revive the GoP. That can change very quickly with me, but for now I would say close it down. We can always reopen it when TTF becomes more active in the future.

Why close it down?? I would think a more viable option would be moving it into the Flotsam and Jetsam section where it would remain as a 'guild' - in the sense that it would have its own section, just without the 'guild of' part. Its members would continue to discuss topics that center around 'tweens', though activity would have to pick up a bit. And at the same why not try to come up with 'a bunch of wonderful and inovative ideas' in the book section where they would receive more feedback than in the confines of a guild?
I suggested this in the Spring Cleaning thread, but there wasn't much response, so I'm not sure what others think would be best.
Now that I think about it, Legolam, Niniel, Elbe and myself are the only Periaur left People, don't be fooled! Aulë must enjoy all the attention of being the only male left in the group! :D

I like your suggestions ithy. Let's not completely disappear as a guild...heck, I think it is really an impossibility to have the tweens spirit die altogether. But the inevitable has happened...we teens have become too busy with our real lives to keep the guild alive. We have some good threads in here though...and if the mods would be so kind...I would appreciate it if we can keep many of them open. (I will be more than happy to review the threads myself and let you know which ones to keep and which ones to discard.)
However, the reign of the Periaur has faded and a new age must begin. And as the founder of this guild, I think I am finally willing to let my baby go.

As long as you have the Periaur spirit..I don't see why you can't join the guild.
Feel free to get involved in the current happenings in the guild...participate in the threads and if you have any good ideas for the guild of Periaur, please feel free to let me know about them...your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the guild Jesse and Darkknight! :)

PLEASE, somebody tell me!!! :mad:Well at the moment, the Periaur doesn't seem to be in the process of being shut down. There was talk about it for a little while, but recently there has been a surge in Guild activity, so it seems to be hanging on. I believe that the Periaur and the GoT are the only major guilds left now.

Hmmm... But I was also under the impression that GoT is also being closed down... Actually, ALL the Guilds are being closed down, 'cause the Big Guys said so... And I really can't find a good reason to do so... I mean, if the members of the forum want to keep the guilds, why stop them?!

Here's looking at ya, kid!
What we are looking at, is not only activity, but Tolkien-related activity. And in the process of doing that, we look at the Guilds also, and concider where they belong in the "new & improved" TTF.
The first guilds to be closed down were two that were very Tolkien-related, but lacked activity. Maybe that have given the wrong impression.
Whether or not the Periaur will suffer the same destiny as Scholar's Hall and O-i-E, remains to see.
(But don't be surprised if this happens to this Guild as well).

Please let us keep our guild!

I think the only way we can keep this guild alive is if we start posting more "Tolkien-related" threads...and are able to keep those guilds active. Although I'm not a big fan of those threads...I understand how important it is to have those type of threads in a "Tolkien forum".
With that said, if you want to save the Periaur guild...start posting more and encouraging others to join in the fun.

I know I may have said this in the past...but I guess I wasn't ready the last time.
However, I am unfortunately stepping down as Guild leader of the Periaur.
This little guild has sort of dwindled over the years and with participation down to exactly two members, I am not sure if I have the desire to keep this up anymore.
If someone would like to replace me as guild leader please speak up now, otherwise, perhaps we should just archive the place and move on.

:( If someone would like to replace me as guild leader please speak up now, otherwise, perhaps we should just archive the place and move on. No! We can't have this Guiled as an archive :( !
We should make a poll and vote (a fair way to do it) on who we want as the new leader...
What do you all think?

Normally I would be all for this idea...but I have tried things like this in the past...and no one has ever wanted to step up as leader. Additionally, the activity in this guild is painfully slow.
However, if you all really want this guild to work....I encourage you to step up and really make things happen in here.

As WM mentioned in another thread...the Guild of Periaur is on its way out of the forum and will most probably be archived...if all goes well.
Before that happens though, I want to go through the guild and move some of the Tolkien related threads as well as the some of the more popular threads and move them into other appropriate sections of the forum.
Although I know which threads I want to move...I also would like to get your input. What threads do you think should remain open?
Give your opinions now....since if all goes well, I will be able to start prunning the guild next week when I return from my vacation in Maine.

The day has finally come for me to say goodbye to my beloved Guild of Periaur. It has been an amazing ride. I have met some great members in this guild, had some great discussions...and ultimately really enjoyed my time with all the wonderful members who have joined the guild in the two years it has been in existance. I want to thank all you wonderful Tweens who helped make this guild possible. I loved your enthusiasm, your carefree spirit...and I will miss you all. I will be forever greatful to you all for making my vision of this guild a reality. It has been a priviliage and honor....Thank You!
