Hoooray!!!

I just got back from a Bangles reunion concert in upstate New York!!! And the girls are still rockin like the best of them!!!!

They were 'Walking Like an Egyption'...'Dancing in their Room Tonight'...It was just another 'Manic Monday' and a 'Hazy Shade of Winter' all over again!!! And their 'Eternal Flame' was still burning as brightly as it was back in the 80's!!! THEY ROCKED!!!

Break out the aqua net...put on those leg warmers...warm up your Atari joysticks, and get your rubics cube ready!!! I'm taking you all back to the 80's!!!!

I don't remember much of the 80's. I'm at the lower end of our age spectrum (I was born in 79). I do remember some of those songs and can probably sing some of them, but I was just a kid back then.

Glad you had such a good time Elbereth! I was more into hardrock myself, who can forget all the men wearing spandex-pants and having poodle hair? Poison, G n' R, Metallica when they still made good music, Van Halen, Twisted Sister and of course KISS!!

Elbereth
08-12-2002, 06:19 AM
I can totally appreciate all those artist. And I was a big big fan of Van Halen, Poison, and Def Leppard back in the day!

LOL...and I'm ashamed to say that yes...I too fell victim to the infamous 80's poodle perms. Although there is not enough money in the world that would ever get me to reveal those frightening pics...so you will just have to use your imagination...;)

Legolam
08-14-2002, 02:26 PM
Luckily I'm young enough to have missed the terrible perms, but there was a short hangover period into the 90's when I remember all my mum's friends having them!!

I have never paid much attention to pop music, because my parents' tv had only three channels, none of them paying attention to music. But when I left home to go to university my tv there turned out to have 30+ channels, including MTV and two other music channels, so that's when I started following pop music. But that was only in 1999, so I don't know a lot of 80's music.

I'm quite sure I have a He-man action figure somewhere. But I have to admit that in recent history he has been slaughtered by my G.I.-Joe's several times.:o
But you have to admit it is rather stupid to swing a sword at a guy who sits in a tank.

I have heard from those Thundercats. Lion-O or something was the leader? I guess I was a little too old by then.
Yuk, did I just say that?

I have a lousy memory for music, the names of songs and bands that is. The number I remember best is 'The Final Countdown', from Europe.
But somehow I manage to sing along with practically every number on a 'Best of the 80's' CD, especially when I have been encouraged by a small amount of alcoholic beverages.:D ;)

Raamalooke
08-21-2002, 07:47 PM
Yep, you got it right about Lion-O. There was also Tigra and Cheetara, LOL!

I love the He-Man VS. GI Joe. ;)

You know, I can sing along with those 80's songs after some drinking too. It's amazing what you're willing to admit memory of when you're drunk.

Maedhros

Transformers are really cool. I still have the complete Bruticus on top of my TV in my bedroom.
BTW, the coolest thundercat is cheetarah, and definitely the pretiest.;)

I was more of a fan of Jem and the Holograms...although She-rah was a close second. In fact I still have an old cassette tape of the Jem theme song...it's quite funny.

You know Saturday morning cartoons are just not the same anymore...the cartoons of the 80's rocked!!!!

Niniel
08-31-2002, 03:23 PM
Gee, the Thundercats... I had completely forgotten about them until you metioned them, and even then I didn't remember what they were. Luckily my little brother owns some Thundercats-action figures. Ah, those were the days....

YEAH THE THUNDERCATS AND VOLTRON!!!

Also in music Bryan Adams and Duran-Duran!!!

There's also Perfect Strangers!

"Sword of Omens! Give me sight beyond sight!"

You people are making me feel old...

I think my favorite cartoon was (and I would be surprised if anyone else has actually heard of this one) The Godzilla Power-Hour. Maybe around 1980 or 1981?

Ho Ho Ho....
I wonder how he would go around Christmas...guess he couldn't ever pose as a department store Santa.

I was always a fan of 80's cartoons, especially Hanna Barbera (sp?) cartoons-huckleberry hound etc, speedracer, and who could forget josie and the pussycats, shame they ruined it with the movie though.

I also love the Transformers, more than meets the eye!!! Love Optimus Prime and ShockWave!

We used to have this gang of bike riders and we would pretend that we were the autobots and the decepticons, and we would transform and stuff and fight. I was Shock Wave.

I love Atari...and we still have the Atari and all of the games still playable even though most of them are nearly 20 years old. I'm bummed though that my older sister claimed the Atari for herself.

However my favorite game was a toss up between Frogger and Donkey Kong Jr. Those were the best!!!

Nah, my pride and joy was my commodore 64 that I had as a kid. And my favourite game was LOTR - utterly boring and impossible to play (you'd get annihilated by swarms of orcs after roughly 37 seconds) but strangely addictive!

Does anyone remember a text-based adventure game called Zork or something like that? It was impossible to finish because after a certain point, you just started going round in circles, and when you got irritated and typed in capitals it would tell you not to shout and to consult the manual, except I have it on good authority that there was no manual... Very frustrating!

The first computer in the house was an Amiga, almost a game-console since it had no hard-drive. Everything worked by floppy-disks. But it had some great games. Recently my little brother (ok, he's 19, but that's still little), found a plug by which we could play the games and use the TV as a screen. We played Dyna Blaster (sp) or Bomber Man as it is called on PC's. Great fun. :D :D

Yes Legolam!

The Commodore 64 was great!:) My favourite games were KickStartII, Defender Of the Crown and the Conan games :D God it was annoying before the diskdrive came to it, that tapestation was really bad..."PRESS PLAY ON TAPE" Hehe...ah...memories... Before that i had the VIC 20, also known as the Commodore 20.. I remember makin my own games to it, you had a book with nothin but code on every page, and it took several hours to make a game. And ofcourse it turned out to be **** :p
Some dot you had to steer between other dots, that was downhill skiing..hehe...

LOL! Actually, Zork I was like this, and so was the original text adventure game: 'Adventure'... Zork took some queues from 'Adventure', such as the part where you start going 'round and 'round in circles, never discovering anything new or interesting because the bloody game is too complicated for a 5 year old. :)

BTW: I can't believe NO one has mentioned 'Super Friends'!!!! That was THE best cartoon on, IMHO... what about those Wonder Twins with the girl who could turn into animals and the boy who could turn into . . . water products. :)

"Form of . . . a BUCKET OF WATER!!!"

*laugh* :)

BTW: I had an '80s flashback the other day when I was in a bar and they started blaring David Bowie's 'China Girl'... Made me feel like I was missing my shoulder pads and perm. :)

I actually, at one point, tried to make a map of it (which may still be lurking in a drawer somewhere in my house) and concluded that as far as I could see, the game actually went nowhere. Every direction was a dead end sooner or later. Now, either I was missing something huge, or the game was designed to frustrate its players...

Atari's where cool but Sinclair Spectrum was my definetly my personall favourite. Any one remember a game called Quebert where you had too jump up and down this pyramid thing, changing the colours of the blocks and avioding baddies. Totally pointless and utterly addictive.

The 80's where cool, Adam and the Ants, rubics cube (I could only solve it by swapping all the stickers around, but there was a girl on our street who could solve it in 30 seconds. People would flock from miles around to marvel at her), Tiswas (much better than swap-shop, kids tv was never the same again. Does anyone remember what the letters stood for), scalectric (ok I think you could get that in the 70's but it part of my 80's) the list is endless. I also loved a tv show on BBC2 called the Adventure Game, each week a group of celebs would have solve puzzles to reach the end, collecting money "drogna" on the way and meeting an irritable house plant that would evaporate you if didn't give it a correct gift. Finally crossing the vortex without being evapourated... brilliant stuff:D

the one with the light gun! some of my friends had this in their house last year, they used to play it for like 4 hours at a time. Wish I had played it more, you're right it was ace!

I still have in my desk drawer a cassette tape of 'Autobots Lightning Strike' :D :D

Megatron: "Fool! If we use the Energon Cubes to dig a tunnel, what will we use for fuel to drive the space-cruiser?!"

Starscream: "Spare me, Megatron!"

I second that FULLY! I was a huge She-Ra fan and I had the Princess of Power board game!
And then there were the Carebears, and The Snorks, and does anybody remember The Noozles? They were an old cartoon from Nickelodeon.
If anyone else remembers that besides me they get a HUGE hug and kiss! Because I adored that show and even my brother can't remember it though he and I watched it and played it together ALL the time.

Another show I loved was The Smurfs! I'd get up early every Sunday morning with my dad to watch The Smurfs. It was a tradition...and it was all mine. *sniff* And then we moved...and we kind of stopped doing it. I kind of grew out of it? And then he left...well. I still remember those times...and I look back on them fondly. *sigh* So yeah, I love that show!

Noozles sounds so familiar...Wonko do remind me of the concept of that cartoon.

Care Bears, Smurfs and the Snorkles were also a personal favorites of mine as well. And does anyone remember Rainbow Brite? I loved that show. I had Rainbow Brite toys and clothing...I even had Rainbow Brite leg warmers...it was the best.

hmm, and the carebears and my little pony, yup, used to steal those toys aswell, haha, cripes how mean was I, if she'd even touched my star wars toys I'd have gone mad!

Noozles was a show with this blue Koala (Blinky) and this pink Koala (Pinky) and they were stuffed animals that "came to life" but they were really from another dimension...and Pinky had a magic makeup compact that could freeze time or open a portal or something, and Blinky had a watch that could make them teleport or transport them in time or something.
And there was a mean blonde girl named Olivia.

I loved Rainbow Brite too! (Legoman, it's Twink btw. NOT Twinky. A Twinky is an american snake cake. Minging really.) My dad drew me a cardboard cutout of Rainbow Brite when I was little. I still have it. One of my most treasured posessions really. Sad I know. But I have so little from him it means a lot to me.

legoman
11-06-2002, 03:32 PM
Huh? I didn't say twinky, though I wasn't entirely sure what a twinky was (you just see american teenagers go on about them on TV) but now I know, but I'll let you off for it may not have been twinkle (as I said), it may have been twink, I dunno, little furry guy, he was like a popple.

Wonko The Sane
11-06-2002, 07:03 PM
He was most definitely Twink! I have many a Twink doll! :) And Popples were ACE! My cousin had one but I never did and I always wanted one. She let me borrow hers once but I never got to keep it. (Although I tried...)
They've started selling Popples again and I've vowed that I will own one before the year is out!

You Brits are crazy. I had to explain to Snaga what a Twinkie was the other day! It's like a spongecake shortbread type of golden yellow snack cake filled with nasty cream filling. They're awful. But they're an American institution. You have to love Twinkies!

legoman
11-07-2002, 05:56 PM
yeah, I always wanted the football popple so I could kick around the house, my sister had one, which I used to kick when she annoyed me, but thats different.

hmm, twinkies, yeah, basically we know then as the thing that the stereotypically horizontally challenged child always has in their hand during any sort of american teen program be it film or series.

Wonko The Sane
11-07-2002, 06:29 PM
Hehe. My brother is just like you Legoman. He used to kick my dolls around the house too, but he's younger than I am.
Also from Rainbow Brite we had a few of the evil monster dolls. One was called Lurky. He's really creepy and has a big nose like Gonzo and he's hairy.
He used to scare me when I was little and my brother would hide it in my blankets to try to freak me out.

My brother once used the DOS thingie to send a message to EVERY computer in the school.
It said, "Hi"...and he got called down to the assistant principal's office and the guy was like, "If you wanted to say hi you could've just come down here" cos he didn't realise it sent to ALL the computers! He thought it was just to him!

Hehe. Does anybody remember Peaches and Cream Barbie? She was like...my very first Barbie. She was beautiful.

I remember 'Peaches and Cream' Barbie!

My first Barbie was 'Western Barbie'. She came out in 82' and was very popular back in the day. However, my pride and joy was my pink Barbie Corvette. It was the same one that Gizmo drove in the movie Gremlins.

So to bring the topic around to Tolkien...

I remember that I did like the Hobbit movie alot back in the day...however, it has been so long since I last saw the movie in full, that I couldn't tell you whether it is really good or not. *contemplates renting the movie*

Yes, you are absolutely right. Even some of my real life friends do not share the same pop culture as I have, (many of them did not grow up in USA,) so many of the games, toys, tv and movies that shape us as we grew up, are very different.

But I am sure we all share some things in common...so why not discuss..

Let's see... I remember...

watching: 'Heidi', 'David the Gnome', 'Claus' (another gnome that came later), 'Dartacán' (Dogtanion), 'Willy Fogg', 'the Smurfs' and 'Muzzy'. Some time after that, 'Mowgli' (sp?) [Bageera, ba-bageera and Baloo. Bageera, ba-bageera and Baloo are friends... :D], 'Chip y Chop' (Chip & Dale) and a few others included in the Club Disney programmes.
Absolutely Spanish: 'Mortadelo y Filemón'.

films: most of it, 'Grease', hahahaha! I was so into it! And 'The Never-ending story' meant a lot to me. Disney movies as well.

comics: 'Donald Duck', 'Mortadelo y Filemón', 'Zipi y Zape', '13 Rue del Percebe'...

I was a member of the Barbie club. LOL

Chip y Chop for Chip and Dale....I love it!!!

Anyway, I too was a huge fan of Grease! My older sister got me into it after she landed the role of Marty in her Jr. High production of "Grease". We would watch the movie over and over again! I loved it soo much. I owned a pink jacket and I named my bike "Grease Lightning"...and I even permed my hair and wore cool dark shades to look like Rizzo. When I look back on it now...it is rather silly, but at the time I thought it was just the coolest thing.

LOL, a pink jacket! I got to wear a similar full skirt (pink too) on my first year in a dancing contest, but didn't think about the jacket... :D I would have loved it by that age. Awww...

Translating titles is one of the funniest things, there are so many nosense ones! Take 'Jaws'. They called it 'Tiburón' (shark) here. In the 90's then, there was a film with a huge crocodile living in the Great Lakes area and they translated it as 'Mandíbulas' (jaws!). So I wonder what the English name was... hehehe.

Do you know the lyrics to Chip & Dale cartoon tune, cause it'd be great if I can read them in their original English version! :)

I see most of you are movie-people! (I stick to music) Thanks Wonks!

Who was Swift? Bet they changed the name.

My dabbling in Biology was looking for David at every hole on a tree bark. The fox would be too fast to catch, and the size of the gnomes houses was ideal for me... If you are interested, no, I never saw him.

Wonko The Sane

Swift was the fox. :)

And yeah, my brother and I went around looking for David the Gnome too.
That show was soo awesome!

Hi there, hope it's o.k. to pop in the middle here...just found this thread which is way cool - long live the eighties!!!
films: most of it, 'Grease', hahahaha! I was so into it! And 'The Never-ending story' meant a lot to me. Disney movies as well.

I'm there with you on Neverending Story, mechu. I always wanted to be that princess - the childlike empress - she's so beautiful! And wasn't it so sad when Atreyu's horse sank in the swamps of despair :(

Oh, and aren't the lyrics to Chip and Dale something like "I'm Chip, He's Dale, we're just a couple of crazy (somethings?) out to have some fun." :)

Wonko The Sane
12-12-2002, 06:44 PM
That's the lyrics to the Chip and Dale original cartoons...

But the Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers show is what I was ALL about!!!

I had imaginary friends when I was younger, most of them were small rodents.
Mice...(Like the one from "Dumbo") and chipmunks (Chip, Dale, and Gadget) mostly...
I "played" with them ALL the time. :)
I remember that I used to like to pretend that an evil scientist had caught them and kept them naked in jars doing experiments on them (There was an episode like that!) and I'd pretend to go and rescue them.
I have this strange nurturing streak where I felt so sorry for the things I'd start crying...and I'd have to save them even though they weren't real.
I did it with my stuffed animals too.
I must be crazy.

Here you go Menchu....

The theme to Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers!!!

"Some times some crimes
Go slippin' through the cracks
But these two gumshoes
Are pickin' up the slack
There's no case too big, no case too small
When you need help just call

Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'n Dale
Rescue Rangers
Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'n Dale
When there's danger

Oh no, it never fails
They'll take the clues
And find the wheres and whys and whos

Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'n Dale"

  IT'S THE... THE... RESCUERS' SONG!!!!!
:D :D YAY! IT'S COOL!!!!!
:p :p CHIPMUNKS ROCK!!!!! (and they're gorgeous, heh-heh!)
THANKS! ¡GRACIAS!

Chi-chi-chi-Chip y Chop, rescatadores. Chi-Chip y Chop, los mejores...
Yay, yay, yay!!! Oh, I'm so glowing I feel I can't talk about the other stuff! Well, I'll have a go!

I loved Artax too, Elennainie! That horse was pretty! I identified myself with Atreyu! Now that I have read the book I see it different though!

What does it mean, Wonks!? Animals are already naked! :D Or did you use to imaginarily dress them up too!? My dog has also suffered those 'experiments', but he loved being in the spotlight!

Elbereth
12-14-2002, 04:46 AM
Talking about Chipmunks...Did anyone watch the Chipmunks back in the day. I loved that show!

"Get set! To have some fun...
It's been awhile, but...
We're back in style.

So get set, to have some fun!
We'll bring you action and satisfaction!

We're the Chipmunks! Alvin...Simon...Theodore!!"
(at least that is how I think it goes  )

Those little critters were great! My favorite was Theodore...However my favorite Chippette was Elenore...I think I always identified with her the best.

And the Chipmunks movie was the best!! I still love it...and sing along to all the songs..and for those of you who watched the movie and want to relive it...here is a cool site with the lyrics to all the songs in the movie!

The Chipmunks rocked!! I had the record "Chipmunk Rock" and would sing along to "Jessie's Squirrel" (instead of Jessie's Girl) and they did "Whip It" by Devo and "Leader of the Pack" - "I had to tell my Alvin was through....."! On the album cover, Alvin was riding his bigwheel in front of a gang of motorcycles for that one. On the Devo one they were all wearing these funny flat red hats and sunglasses and were pouring whip cream. They were the cutest. I liked Alvin's girlfriend the best...what was her name?

I thought it would be cool to post up the British Army Road-trip playlist... ie all the stuff we played in the car.

I can't remember it all cos I was driving and drinking too much Red Bull and basically getting completely wired trying to stay awake while my entire body was seizing up... but I remember...

Groove Armada
The Waynes World Soundtrack
Legoman's Funny Songs:D
Ash
Oasis
The Clash
Fun Lovin Criminals
Nirvana
Snaga's Lake District Roadtrip Tape.

I'm missing something but I can't think what it was...

Oh yes ... that sounds right. Muse. I blame the music, but the fact that my body had transmuted into something with all the flexibility of a slab of concrete, and I was strung out on Red Bull might equally have had something to do with it!

You missed the Lake District tape. I played that on the way from Hull to Coventry. It has 'Unfinished Sympathy', 'Time After Time', 'Don't Do It', 'Born Slippy', 'Bittersweet Symphony', 'Please Don't Fight', 'Iron Lion Zion' and other stuff on it. Including Laurie Anderson... I want to hear from anyone who likes Laurie Anderson.

Naming artist won't help, except for the very old and famous ones. But adding a movie-title was an excellent idea. I usually need about 2.635 seconds of view time to identify a movie or about seven words describing it (if I've seen it).
OK, I'm grossly exagerating, but I do have an incredible memory for movies. :)
Trainspotting was so weird (and therefore good). And I laughed the lower part of my back of when I heard people claiming it would inspire people to abuse drugs. RIGHT.

Now let me ask you this....what foods do you remember that you liked as a kid?

I was a big fan of ice cube pops.

I saw it on a PSA commercial when I was a kid. You fill a ice cube tray with your favorite juice, cover it with plastic wrap, and then poke toothpicks in the center of each ice cube holder and then place it in the freezer. A few hours later you come back...and you have instant popsicles!

Those were real good! Nowadays you can buy 1000 of those, a foot long even, in a variety of colors, for only one dollar!:)
I just remember eating tons of peanut-butter cookies when I was young, seriously, tons.
My earlest memories of a candy-like experience was Caramel-Apples, and that stuff..ummm..it comes on a stick, usually found at Theme Parks...I forget the name, Americans, help me!:)
And of course, peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches, and peanut-butter and honey, and just plain old peanut butter....

I know a kids story about peanut-butter sandwiches, and about some kid who got into a "sticky-situation", because he ate so many of them one day! :D But I'm into stories, I'm a wanna-be writer. ;)

Jell-O is the brand name so we call all our Jell-O that. Just like we call all plasters Band-Aids.
And jelly and jam are actually different. They're made differently and jelly doesn't have any fruit bits in it.

Hmm, milk lollies and cola cubes, oh and pine-apple chunks at football matches.
ooooh and malt-lick! (malteasers, crushed, then sold by the quarter, yummy!!!!)

What you call ice-lollies we call popsicles, and in America we have Whoppers which are smiliar to Malteasers (Snaga had some of the latter in the movies last night) but Malteasers have nicer chocolate on the outside.

And yes...Chocolate bars are getting smaller. It's because they've taken to making something called the "King Size" bar which is HUGE and the "Fun Size" which is tiny and NOT fun. So the normal size has been skewed a bit.
Sad really.

You used to get so much more for your money.

yeah I knew that, silly americans.

haha, but it doesn't matter how big the chocolate bar is as long as it is of the quality that is dairy milk, or actually any other bar sold in my local newsagents - except the ones I don't like.

Nothing beats Nestlé :D
Nestlé Crunchie would have to be the King of chocolate bars :D

Agreed, Aule... love those things, even though I don't eat chocolate a whole lot

Eew...yucky Nestle. Though I do like Crunch bars most everything else they make is sub-par.
Nothing beats a Dairy Milk bar...OMG soooo good. :)

Not true. Lots of things could beat Dairy Milk. Like those fake cigarettes that you could eat... they're cool. Really tasty plus they encourage small children to smoke... :D

What I want to know is this... do Americans have places where they go when they want to 'large it'? We Brits (and other Europeans) go to Ibiza, and Kavos and places like this...

Largin' it aka livin' it large aka going somewhere got, partying all night in the most disgraceful debauched way that can only be frowned upon, including dancing to the obligatory euro-dance music... throwing up and then sleeping until 4pm at which point you get up and start all over again.

I'm hoping someone might admit to this, so I can live vicariously through their decadence.:D

I think they go to Florida or California.

In Australia, we go to the Gold Coast (south of Brisbane).:D

There are lots of places that Americans go to 'live large'

Daytona Beach, FL
Las Vegas, NV
Los Angeles, CA
and
New York, NY

are the hottest places to visit.

But I'm sure there are several other locations that I'm leaving out. Can anyone else help me out.

Well, the Dutch 'I want to be part of something' youngsters who 'live large' go either to our won beloved coastal towns and Islands or travel all the way to the Spanish Mediterranean coast (like Salou, Lorret de Mar). I think the difference is primarily wether you wish to get drunk on beer (definitely down here) or on cocktails (Spain).

Funny thing was, when I was travelling home from our summer camp in Germany with my scoutgroup, we stopped at a the first McDonalds we encountered, just after we crossed the Belgium/Dutch border. Entire busloads of Costa del Sol party-goers were unloaded at the same parking lot. I never felt so cool, walking around in my dirty sneakers, baggy pants and scouts blouse, wading trough hundreds of people in expensive pants, tight t-shirts (both boys and girls) wearing fancy earrings and necklaces (again both) and neatly combed and styled haircuts. :D

LOL! Snaga-'larging it'! That is sooooooo Kevin and Perry ;)

Besides, Kavos is more of a R'n'B then Dance (Or 'Euro-Dance') scene, though Ibiza is pretty big when it comes to dance, though that is known around the world. As well as Kavos, Greece has Valaraki (Sure I've spelt that wrong!) and of course Ayia Napa. Amsterdamn is also popular but that is for very much different reasons then partying ;)

Las Vegas is the name that comes readily to mind.

And of course Mexico. Mazitlan and Acapulco are popular vacation spots. :)

And as Elbe mentioned Daytona Beach, Florida.

But I haven't seen as much of the same with LA and NY to be honest...

I'm thinking of "spring break" type spots...warm weather...and sinful decadence! :)

Warm weather and sinful decadence is the idea here!;)

Yeah the phrase 'Larging it' makes me laugh too, Inderjit.:D

Q. What do you call an Ibizan terrorist?

A. All-summer Bin Largin It. ;)

As I sit here in my dirty sneakers and baggy jeans, I suddenly feel cool not larging it!;) Thanks DGoeij!:D

How do you pronounce Ibiza?
And the phrase "Largin' it" strikes me as hokey and silly and decidedly uncool. :)

Eye-bee-tha

I never understood what hokey meant, so I can't comment. Whether 'Larging it' is cool or not is a matter of opinion. A lot of people who are paid to tell you what is cool, will tell you that it is. So probably it isnt. But how would I know?

Hokey..cheesy...dorky...lame...:)

Um...Eye-bee-tha?

Yeah...so THAT'S what Hugh Grant was saying in that movie I watched the other day.

"No! Some men ARE Islands. I'M an Island for God's sake. I'm bloody Ibiza!!"

I've been going around saying "I'm bloody Ibiza" since I figured out that what he was saying, was probably the island that you guys were mentioning just pronounced in a scary non-American way. ;)

But actually that's a sort of Spanish pronounciation. (Though true Spain-Spanish pronounciation would say "Eee-bee-tha"...) Coolness anyway. :)
