The Time Lords

[Talierin]

The Time Lords are a guild commited to studying real-world history, and mythologies of different cultures.

(the name of the guild comes from Dr. Who, and was the inspiration for it)

1. To join the Guild, all you have to do is pm Talierin or Aerin and ask.

2. You must be willing to participate on a regular basis and contribute as often as possible (not withstanding work or personal commitments)for the benefit of your colleagues and the momentum of the Guild.

3. No personal attacks on fellow members and guests. Talierin (cause she's the moderator), has the right, with Aerin's approval, to delete any post and take away membership if you do so.

4. This Guild is a democratic process and decisions on challenging other Guilds to open debate must be agreed by the majority.

5. All forum members, whether members of The Time Lords or not, are welcome to post, but only members will be allowed to enter in quizzes and contests of that nature.

Well since this thing seems widly ignored i'm gonna say it looks pretty sweet, but since i MADE the thing, my opinion doesn't count in the way that other's do. In short i would really like to know if anybody even likes it.

How come this guild seems to be dead? No one seems to be posting in it. Perhaps we need a cleaning of current topics. We could start topics like "Greek Mythology", "Understanding Islam" etc. These are good topic suggestions that might make our guild more interesting...

I think there aren't many problems with this guild :rolleyes: ...besides that no one ever posts or makes threads in it...perhaps we should make sure the person has a certain amount of posts a month (like 4?) and if they don't meet it then give them a warning or just boot em'.
This guild needs something to get it going or maybe........people could follow the lines on admission (how did it go? post often and be nice or something like that??)

I am thinking that a good topic idea would be the Crusades. I am currently writing a research paper on the subject, and I think that it would be valuable to discuss the ethics and results of the Crusades. What do you think?

Just which Crusades are you talking about? There were a couple. ;)

I'm not so sure about the 'ethics' you speak of; I would rather not have Time Lords turned into a thinly veiled political forum. If you want to talk politics, there's the Guild of Politics for just such discussions. :)

Also, I'd much prefer if we stayed fairly neutral (or cool, if you're into slang) on the subject of religion. Too many toes can be tread on, and the aim of this guild is to merely discuss history; not start wars.

Lossengondiel - Of course you can participate in discussions. :) Also, it's not as if becoming a member entails walking barefoot on hot coals or eating live worms. ;)

Another thing: I would like the Time Lords to, eventually, participate in the Inter-Guild Debates. I have a bit of work to do before anything's concrete, but if you're interested, feel free to PM me.

Elendil, discussing the Crusades is a great idea. I just don't want to get too deep into the religious aspect; but the rest of it is fine! The Crusades are a fascinating part of history, and shouldn't be ignored because there are religious considerations.
It was my fault for not being clear enough in my last post - I just don't want to get into any religion-bashing, or "My God is better than your God" type quibbling. Other than that, it's a go. :)
