How many of you liked what you saw of PJ's Loth Lorien? I personally felt that is was beautiful and just as I have imagined.

I'm not sure really, you don't see a great deal of Lorien in the current version of the film, but it's not quite what I imagined. I prefer Rivendell.

I had expected more green grass lawns, fountains, flowers, golden trees and sunshine. Sort of like the Hildebrant Brother's pictures. I was very disappointed with the 'Blue Mood' presented in the film. Not a place I could have fallen in love with.

in the movie they reached lothlorien in night fall. I dont know what part of the world you're in but in mine there is no sunshine at night.

Lol alphack! Actually, they arrived at nightfall in the books, as well. For any who really missed the sunshine etc, there a thousands of pictures on the web showing some of the Lorien pictures which were edited out. There was plenty of filming of golden trees etc, it's just that the action which made it past the editing (the arrival in Lorien & the Mirror of Galadriel) both happened at night, which I believe is true to the books (not sure about the mirror, actually).

In the books they arive at the outskirts of the wood at night, go up to the trees to sleep the night, and then continue into Lorien during the day (thus seeing it's full majesty under the light of day). However, Tolkien mentions that time seemed to stop when inside the actual enclosed "city", for lack of better word. This aspect of it was captured well in the film, but the beauty was indeed cut. Look for good stuff on the Extended Edition.

Talimon- I think they arrived at the city (Caras Galadon? Can't remember the name off hand) at night- probably the night after they spent the night in the flets. I'm pretty sure of this one- they approach it from the side without the gates, and have to go all the way around the walls in order to enter the city. At some point during this traverse Tolkien describes the lights twinkling in the city, just as when it is pictured in the movie.
I am looking forward to seeing those day shots on the extended edition (I think the scene between Boromir and Aragorn re. Minas Tirith was shot during the day, but can't remember for sure).

Well, most discriptions I remember must have been day time scenes. But even the night scenes I remember thinking were more Christmas or party light and warm lamp light colors than all blue.
...but the grass upon its brink was green, as if it glowed still in memory of the sun that had gone. ...in their many tiered branches, and amid their ever-moving leaves, countless lights were gleaming, green and gold, and silver.
(Edit. I looked it up. They went to the mirror at twilight, and Venus was showing through the trees and green hedges.)
