View Full Version : Ever heard of a Wiki-Web? Very interesting for the internet-using Tween.

Neither did I, until Walter invited me over to TheTolkienWiki (http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi).
A very interesting place, but it needs a lot of help to grow. I see it as a great place to express your enthousiasm for the works of professor J.R.R. Tolkien.
It is very different from a Forum and I switch a lot between there and TTF. Maybe other Tweens are as interested as me. Give it a try!

Walter invited me as well; however, I haven't had the time to post anything to it. I will though.

I would like to post there, but I'm having a little trouble with the interface.

It's totally different than a forum, so that would explain it. Try the button 'members' at the front page. You can create your own member page there and leave questions. Anyone with more knowledge of Wiki will be bound to answer them asap.

What kind of problems are those, Maedhros?

Well, I get to the page, but don't know how to post or even to register. Kind of confusing to me.

A WikiWeb is totally different from a BBS-system like vBulletin (the system here on TTF), a WikiWeb (the system of the TolkienWiki) is more like an authoring tool for a large Website (we have already more than 800 separate Weppages by now) where every registered user can edit existing pages and create new ones. Each existing page has been created either by a single user or is a result of a joint effort of many users.
There is a section at the FrontPage which should explain how you can become a contributing member: "Would you like to become a contributing member here?" (http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi?FrontPage#Would), or - if you are in a hurry - you could just check out the OneMinuteWiki Page (http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi?OneMinuteWiki).
Hope this helps.

Ah, an explanation by the (or one of the) founding father of the site. I hope this makes things a lot more clear than I possible could.:)
