What happens to Hobbits when they die? Men leave the world, Dwarves go to the halls of Mandos, Elves reincarnate, but what about Hobbits? Are they like short Men or short Dwarves?

They are more like men than they are like dwarves....but I imagine they go to a big pipe-weed field....:D

JRRT uses "diminutive branch of the human race" in Letters

I thought that all good beings after they die, are slain, or fade away go to the Halls of Mandros.

doesn't tolkein imply in tlotr that men simply leave this world and go into a sort of eternal sleep? as the hobbits are a sort of diminutive race of men they surely have the same fate.

No Flame the gift of men(or doom of men as it was later called) was that they are not bound to Ea but leave it completely and go noone knows where. It was also declared to Manwe by Eru that Men shall have a part in the final great song at the end of the world.

The only beings that go to Mandos are the Elves. This brings in an interesting complication as, if the orcs are a corrupted race of Elves are they also drawn to Mandos? Although JRRT said in one of his letters that the Elves can choose to reject the call of Mandos, however they have virtually no power to reject the call of Morgoth. presumably this is where the orcs would go. And as the Elves are able to be reincarnated by the Valar maybe the orcs are able to be reincarnated by Morgoth. perhaps this is how they recover their numbers so quickly.

The Dwarves also have the idea that Aule the maker gathers them to Mandos in halls set apart, however noone knows if this is true or what their fate will be at the end of the world.

I wasn't sure where to put this thread, but since there's almost nothing in this forum, I decided to put it here.

Okay now we all know what happens when men die, they pass into the halls of Mandos, and elves usually don't die. But does anyone know what happens to other creatures such as hobbits and dwarves when they die, do they go to the halls of Mandos as well, or do they have no souls and just cease to exist? If anyone knows anything at all about it I would appreciate it, 'cause its something thats been bothering me for awhile now.

Well! does anybody want to answer me!

Well, when hobbits die, their remains pass into the soil, and the grass grows from the soil, and the antelope eat the grass, and the hobbits eat the antelope, Simba.

Sorry. Anyways, hobbits go with men. I can't remember the quotes or the chain of logic here, but this has been discussed before. Hobbits basically evolved, or maybe, were created from humans during the Great Song. Their fate parallels our own.

Hobbits descend from Men so they go to an unknown destiny.
