I want to ask a question. What are orcs like? Are they like in the Film?
I think that the orcs in the film were .......
They are not orcs. They are vampires.Have you watched the film "From dusk till dawn"? The vampires in that film and the orcs in the LOTR film are exactly the same.I think that Peter Jackson is stupid and can not imagine.(Compare Alan Lee's,Ted Nasmith's pictures with the film so you can see that he can not imagine)

First of all, a gobblin is a kind of Orc (reference: http://www.glyphweb.com/arda )

Second of all, i think you're overreacting - Jackson isn't stupid.

Third of all, the Orcs in Heroes of Might and Magic really suck. They look different with every version of HOMM that comes out :(

Fourthly, i really don't think Nasmith and all those artists are things to take ideas from. They drew entirely from their imagination and IMHO none of the more famous LOTR artists were very good at drawing people (and other living things), so i don't see why you should take orcs fromt that.

First of all i wanted to say that you can both see an orc and goblin there.(You can see both of them,i didn'T say that they are the same)

Second.I have a right to overreact 'cause Jakson is disrespectful to a very great writer.

Third, You should see HOMM3

Fourth you should compare this scenes with Ted Nasmith's,Alan Lee's
and John Howe's paintings.

The Minas Tirith
At the Forth
Bilbo's House
Gandalf at Bilbo's door
The Mount Doom

Fifth, you have a right to disargee with me but you have to add "
I Think to the beginning of your sentences

Do not try to understand them, nor try to explain thyself

I try to understand you but i think that you don't

lets lay a few simple points down.

1. PJ did not design the orc costumes. They have teams of fashion designers, professors, economicists just trying to find the perfect combo. If it happened to be the same as the vampires, blame the costume designers.

2. The emmy's thought the costumes were pretty good.

3. Orcs kind of are like vampires (afraid of sun).

Last and most important: Orcs are a fictional species. They dont have any one way to look. you cant say that this looks orcs and that doesnt.

2. You must mean the Oscars and not the Emmys. They won for makeup, not special effects so I doubt the Orcs got them this award.

3. Orcs don't like the sun. That and being inherently evil are about the only similarities between the two. Orcs are living beings. Vampires are the dark undead. Vampires feed on the blood of the living. Orcs feed on.... well... anything.

I didn't much like the portrayal of the Orcs either but I don't know that I could have done much better. :)

DO you wan t to say that if Oscars think that the costumes are good they are good huh?But i ask you did any of the jorors read the book?I don't think so.But i think that P.J. spoiled the job while creating his orcs.
And i agree with Grond.It's P.J.'s film.He controls everything.

THE LAST AND THE MOST IMPRTANT THING:::
They(Tolkien's orcs)have been described in his books.They have a
fixed form.

This means that you can't present an vampire as an orc.

well what makes it a vampire? Ive never seen a description on how vampires look.

What makes you think none of the judges or scorers or what ever the hell those people are ever read the book. The books have been around for 60 some years. Most people in the world have read them. To be able to judge a film on best book to film adaptation you have to read the book.

What do you think an orc would look like?

What makes one persons portrayel of a fictional creature any more exact than any one elses? Like i said, they are fictional creatures as are vampires. You cant flame someone for orcs just becuase you thought they would look differently. You know at first i thought hobbits were like those 1/2 goat people with the 4 legs, you know from Hercules.

I personally thought the descriptions of the orcs in Tolkien's works could be interpreted many different ways. I felt that the orcs were just as aweful as I first imagined them when my dad read the story to me over 10 years ago and we have read it several times since then.

Also, I don't know very much about vampires and since they are both fictional creations, who cares if they have a few similarities.
