Is there a way to learn Elvish? Like is there a full written out language like Klingon? If so, where can i learn/find it???

You can look for the Sindarin Dictionary for a dictionary and as for writing, use your LOTR appendix to learn the runes and as for Tengwar (the other kind of writing, such as that on the ring), you can learn from misc. sites, but i beleive that the dictionary includes it, so look for that :)

actually i'm kind of a newbie to the whole thing and i didn't realize there was more than 1 form of elvish. I'm looking to learn Sindarin because it's so pretty. All i can say is the first thing Arwen says in the movie in elvish.

Look for the book "The Languages of Tolkiens Middle Earth" by Ruth S. Noel. I have it, and it explains all 14 of Tolkiens languages. (Check on Amazon, I got it for cheap there).

Hey. Glad I found this topic. I think I can be of some help.
I'm a writer and language mod over at There And Back Again (http://www.thereandbackagain.net), and a little while ago I and another staff member composed a Tolkienian Language Resource List\FAQ.
Lúthien and AuraSidhe's Tolkien Langauge Resource Guide and FAQ (http://www.thereandbackagain.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=000039&p=)
Hopefully that will answer many of your questions. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. :)

Ruth's book is outdated I'm afraid. Check out the sources just given rather :)

Rriiight..
You mean you can write the Tengwar, not Quenya. Writing Quenya would still be writing it in the Latin alphabet..
Welcome to the forum.

What a coincidence, I came to post on this forum for the first time to ask the very same question..
How many times have you all had to answer this in the past, over and over, and over? *C*
I was hoping to buy a book that teaches this stuff. Amazon and barnes & Noble only have couple which are reviewed poorly.
Any comments on those?

I'm a language moderator over at There and Back Again (http://www.thereandbackagain.net). Don't even ask that! :( :o
Nah, only joking. I love helping out. :) And mad props for actually looking for a thread already on the same subject. I just want to slap those who just start a new thread and don't even bother to search for any similar ones.

I would not recommend the books. They're outdated and you can find way more info for free on the internet. A fellow mod of mine and I composed a huge resource list which encompasses basically all the info that is available on the Elvish languages. I posted it earlier, but in case you missed it. Here it is:
Lúthien and Aura's Language Resource Thread (http://www.thereandbackagain.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=000039)
Hope that helps. :)

A great book I can recommend (and from which I learnt the Tengwar) is An Introduction to Elvish. Read and learn.

Whoo! Thanks! ;)
I'm compiling a whole folder full of bookmarks of this stuff to print out, make some kind of folder full of, and start working from when my life becomes a little more un-busy. I think my biggest problem will be the pronunciation of it all.
I'm hoping to teach my 5-year old Elvish, because it will drive my ex-husband NUTS... *giggles*
Thanks for the help.

Hail.I had the same craze and I wanted to learn an Elvish language.
You can find some lessons at
http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/less.a/rtf
I hope I got it right. The lessons are for Quenya and at the end of each lesson there are exercises and a certain vocabulary.
Hope the site's still there.
Enjoy!!

I think the best site to learn one of Tolkiens Languages is Ardalambion. You should learn Quenya there. There are courses that you can take. We are studying it now in the Guild of Tolkienology. Anyways, at Ardalmabion, you should be able to find the Quenya Courses pretty easily.

That was a great site, Moriquendë, thanks! And welcome to TTF. :)
But I must agree with Calimehter, Ardalambion = the best!

I am learning Quenya at the moment off of Ardalambions course. Heres a few lines and words I know:
I Naucor ar i Eldar lalea nu i tarsari.
The Dwarves and the Elves are laughing under the willows.
I canta ner nar lindea.
The four men are singing.
I antiuca Nauco cendea i tiuca parma.
The fattest Dwarf is reading the thick book.
Anyways, I know about 50 words, so far. The course teaches you how to make the plurals, how to pronounce, how to form the sentences, and everything else I can think of.
Some random words I know:
Mine - One
Atta - Two
Nelde - Three
Canta - Four
Elda - Elf
Nauco - Dwarf
Ner - Man
Nis - Woman
Na - Is
Nar - Are
Ar - And
Calima - Bright
Carne - Red
Firin - Dead
Umea - Evil
Ninque - White
More - Black
I left all the accents off those because it takes too long to add them. But there should be accents on them like two dots on the E in CARNE.

I, too, have gone through some of that course. (Lesson 1 hehehehe) Anyways, it is very informative. For those wanting to get the lessons, see Calimehtar's above post, and click the link.

Even though it costs money there is also a book called the Langauges of Tolkiens Middle Earth. It has the complete grammar ,alphabet, and an elvish to english glossary...of the elvish language. But one thing im not sure of is if its Quenyan or Sindarin.
