Yay! She's crazy! I love her avatar! She's pretty much the most loyal Gollum Fan I know! Well, her and that Kit Baggins person who never shows up.

Kailita

Heh...all right, I've been meaning to do this for quite a while, ever since I caught sight of this guild, I just haven't had a chance to. I would very much like to join all of you, if you'll let me...I LOVE people that don't fit in...they're so cool and different and...yeah, not normal. Normal is BORING! :D Anyway, I'd like to join, if that's okay, and get to know all of you! :D:D

Yay, I was just wondering when you're going to do the description for GOO for the main page? There isn't one there, and all the other guilds have them. We're left out. Hang on, that could be deliberate, outcasts and everything...

YayGollum
02-24-2003, 10:02 PM
Sure, Kailita person, you can join! Why not? Have fun! Anyways, about the description thing, I've PMed different Mods about it a few times and they've never given us one. It was going to say ---> You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial! What, should I PM them again with a long rant about it?

Kailita
02-25-2003, 08:00 PM
:D Yay, thank you much! *Hugs YayGollum and dances about in a very outcastish fashion* :D

This is the thread I was talking about when I said that we didn't really need a general and pretty much any topic type thread. oh well. This, or that random topic thread that's on one of the other pages. If you read towards the beginning, this was a bar type thread. oh well. Not a huge deal. *sniff* I just said that I'd start resurrecting a few things.

Arathin
06-10-2003, 12:54 AM
*hops behind the bar* I'll be serving drinks here at the Outcast's Day and Night Bar!!! Welcome one! Welcome two! Welcome Shoe!!! Come on, come all to the Outcast's Day and Night Bar. I am the Outcast Arathin and I will be serving your Outcast drinks.

My_Precious

I'd like to have a Bloody Mary... with a green umbrella, please.
*MP drinks her Bloody Mary, orders three more, and after some time starts debating with the wall about the meaning of life.*
How exactly the Outcast Bloody Mary is different from the ordinary Bloody Mary? Is it just stronger, so that it would make you forget the mysery of your life?

Arathin
06-11-2003, 05:04 PM
Arathin smiled at MP and cleaned out her other Blood Mary glasses. She slipped another one into MP's hand just in case she would want it and took a sip of her tea.

The door to the thread swings open and YayGollum shows up, having all kinds of fun. "So this place is finally doing anything again? Yay for that! Why not? This place has nice and comfy chairs!"

Arathin
06-12-2003, 03:20 AM
Arathin looks up from behind the bar. "Yes, comfy chairs, Yay... Can I get you something from the bar while you're in?"

YayGollum
06-12-2003, 03:25 AM
*blinks innocently* "Some chocolate milk would be nice, scary lady!" :D

Arathin
06-13-2003, 10:35 PM
Smiles with fained innocence and gets a big glass of chocolate milk for the Yay person... ;) "Anyone else want anything?"

YayGollum
06-15-2003, 11:13 PM
"Looks like noone else cares." *bawls* "Yes, Yay for chocolate milk." *grabs the glass and sits in a nice and comfy chair* "Nice and relaxing and not as crazy as before. Phew." :(

Arathin
06-16-2003, 04:07 AM
Arathin sits back and puts her feet up. "Well if anyone wants anything, I got ya covered."

YayGollum
06-16-2003, 10:25 PM

Rhiannon

Yes, hello. We're having a party for the brilliant results of the most recent debate in the submarine.

YayGollum
06-17-2003, 05:21 AM
This place started out as a bar type place. We're trying to keep having fun here. Silly, huh? oh well. I don't remember ever looking in on that submarine place, but sure, thanks for the recognition, crazy people!

Arathin
06-17-2003, 07:38 PM
"Well now that a few more people are here, anyone want something from the bar???" Arathin looks around and puts her feet up with a book in hand. "Just tell me if you want something."

Dragon
06-18-2003, 04:34 AM
gots anything that'll miraculously make ur annoying mom go away? she. just. wont. let. me. be!

Arathin
06-18-2003, 03:31 PM
Arathin looks up and thoughtfully strokes her chin. "hmmm...." she narrows her eyes in thought. "I think... I think... I might have some 'Mom Repelant' mix in here..." She looks at Dragon. "What would you like it mixed into?"

Dragon
06-18-2003, 05:00 PM
uh..... got any mr. pibb?

Rhiannon
06-18-2003, 08:41 PM
I'll have just a Coke, please- I'm under age. *finds a stool in a corner and digs around in her messenger bag for Marvin*

Arathin
06-19-2003, 10:31 PM
"Sure thang." Arathin pulled out one Dr. Pibb and one coke. She poured both over rocks(ice) in different glasses. Slipping some 'mom repellant' into the Dr. Pibb, she served up the drinks. "A Dr. Pibb with 'mom repellant' for Dragon, and a coke for Rhiannon. Anyone want something else from the bar?"

Rhiannon
06-19-2003, 10:49 PM
Thanks. *finds Marvin and pulls him out, setting him up and typing away rapidly*

YayGollum
06-20-2003, 02:58 AM
Doobedoobedoo...we are all supposed to know what this Marvin thing is supposed to be? oh well. What is the legal age for alcoholic type beverage intake on the internet?

Dragon
06-20-2003, 03:49 AM
on the internet? depends on your own personal morals/laws/rules/thingummujiggers....

marvin....martian?:D

Rhiannon
06-20-2003, 05:51 AM
I don't know about internet underage laws...It is all make-believe, of course. But then again I don't like the taste of alcohol *wrinkles nose*

Marvin is my computer. He's sort of like a lap top only smaller, and all I use him for is word processor. And solitaire. He's very nifty.

and it's Marvin as in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy- Marvin is a depressed robot.

Dragon
06-20-2003, 05:10 PM
hmmm....

word:D

Arathin
06-20-2003, 05:15 PM
Arathin pokes Marvin. "Silly manic depressed super intelligent robot." Leans back behind the bar. "My mother told me that I was a Super-Intelligent Shade of Blue." sips her tea.

Rhiannon
06-20-2003, 08:00 PM
My Marvin is just named after that Marvin- he's really quite cheerful. Aren't you Marvin? *the keyboard chirps happily in response* See?

*Rhian sips her coke and pauses a moment before resuming her rapid typing*

Arathin
06-20-2003, 11:46 PM
*pulls back in fear* That means he is like... *dramatic music* The Doors!!! *hides behind the bar in terror*

Rhiannon
06-21-2003, 12:00 AM
*leans over the bar to peer at Arathin* Are you...all right?

Arathin
06-21-2003, 12:07 AM
*pokes her head just above the bar* um.... *glances from side to side* the test results haven't come back on that yet... *hides again. suddenly a hand reachs up and picks up Arathin's book, pulling it below the bar with her.* "I would just like to everyone to know if you want something from the bar, please speak to the bar itself so I can hear you..." she said as the hand pulled the book down.

YayGollum
06-21-2003, 03:07 AM
*peeks behind the bar and tries to find the lady* What? Is there something wrong with the doors of this establishment? Or am I just an achingly oblivious person?

Arathin
06-21-2003, 05:01 PM
*Arathin twitches* no no... the doors in "The Hitchhikers Guide" on the Heart of Gold Ship... *slinks further under the bar with her tea and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"*

Rhiannon
06-21-2003, 07:02 PM
Oh those doors. No really, everything's quite all right. Marvin is perfectly harmless. Honest.

My_Precious
06-21-2003, 10:29 PM
Oh, underage alcohol consumption? Not to worry!!! *pulls out some kind of identification card* See? This is my ID! *closer look reveals it to be fake, with the picture of Yoda on the front*
Some green dude dropped it in the bar. Seemed to be quite cheerful. Was asking something about where he could purchase pink thong.
:D

Rhiannon
06-21-2003, 11:12 PM
Ooh, Precious, you just inadvertently struck on a deep and dark family joke...

YayGollum
06-22-2003, 03:38 AM
Oh, those doors! Got it. Yes, those are scary. More annoying than scary, I would think, though. oh well. Have fun down there, lady! I don't get how a computer could be cheerful, though. Silly me. Anyways, saying evil things about Yoda is way too evil for me. just like the evil hp. Doesn't deserve capitalization!

My_Precious
06-22-2003, 03:56 AM
*Stands up, and steadies herself up against the bar* You shall not say evil things about Harry Potter! *thinks a little* Go Canada! *thinks a bit more* Where is my Vodka?!

YayGollum
06-22-2003, 04:17 AM
Ha! Why should I get vodka for evil hp defenders? You crazy! That evilness is way too popular for me! Don't be a sheep, lady! Argh!

Rhiannon
06-22-2003, 04:34 AM
I read the first HP right before all the major hype started, which is good, because I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise. But I did read it, and I really liked it, and while I am sick to death of the hype and merchandise, I love the books.

Only my evil sister has the latest one and she is reading. so. slow!

My_Precious
06-22-2003, 04:36 AM
Sheep?! Me?!! That's it, you're gonna get it now! Where is my really big sword?!
*Thinks a little and changes her mind*
*With a nasty smile* Maybe you're right. Yoda and pink don't go together. *Innocently* I think Chewbacca would look so much better in pink thong. Add two strings of pearls, and it's a masterpiece of feminine beauty... *Evil grin*

Dragon
06-22-2003, 04:56 AM
ummm....huh? ......................oh!!!!!

when u saaid hp, I thought u meant hewlett packard, and I was wondering why...I get it now:rolleyes: :D

I still dont get the thing about the doors tho...

rhi; I read it right b4 too. I'm just a little mad that its so popular, b/c it isn't something that the majority of the populace would read unless it was "in" which it apparently is:rolleyes: I mean, really, what portion of the polpulation reads nonsense and fantasy??? not that many:rolleyes: so, its a fad, the only good thing about it b ing so popular is that u keep getting reminded about when the next one comes out:rolleyes:

*starts talking at the bar*

hey, arathin, that mom-repellant is actually helping she's started 2 leave me alone lately:D

YayGollum
06-22-2003, 04:58 AM

My_Precious
06-22-2003, 05:02 AM
(*whispers* The doors are from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... They were automatic doors in the starship, and they drove Marvin crazy with their cheerfullness. Not that they actually could think, as far as I remember, they played a very cheerfull greeting and music when they opened. Hope I got everything right. :))

*Finds her vodka standing peacefully on the bar counter right in front of her. Smiles idiotically, and falls asleep*

Dragon
06-22-2003, 05:06 AM

Rhiannon
06-22-2003, 05:28 AM
In a way, I'm glad HP is so famous because it means a lot of other YA literature is getting a little of the attention it deserves, but then again, a lot of that same literature is now eternally under HP's shadow...I guess it's like duct tape. It has a dark side and a light side. Or maybe that's the Force.

The evil cheerful doors...No no, Marvin is nothing like the doors. He just likes me.

Arathin
06-22-2003, 10:50 PM
*A hand pokes out from under the bar* You're welcome for the vodka, Precious... sheesh!!! Oh and you're welcome, Dragon. I am glad the mom repellent helped. BTW, the Doors in Hitchhiker's Guide did think. I distinctly remember one agreeing with Beetlebrox when the heart of gold's golden heart was taken... It was silent until AFTER he went through... LOL!!! *the hand then vanishes* oh and by the way, by the way, Rhi... you should read all those wonderfully delightful Harry Potter fanfictions out there... all the ones that JKRowling hates so much... all the ones that I read and contribute to... muahahahahaha... *followed by mutterings of disgust about 'not making fun of Harry Potter'*

My_Precious
06-22-2003, 11:34 PM
I've read Hitchhiker a long time ago, so I don't remember all the details. HP fanfiction? The only one I read and liked a lot is Cassandra Claire's ones, although the last chapter she posted was very strange...

Rhiannon
06-23-2003, 04:08 AM
I've never read any HP fanfiction (stiiiill waiting for my sister to finish the book)...I do occaisonally read LOTR fanfiction, because I get a kick out of seeing what people do to the characters once they have them in their power :D I do write my own shameless self-insertion LOTR fanfiction (Belonging to Someone by Kathryn Angelle on fanfiction.net- it gets better as it goes along) but no one reads it except me and my friend Kaytlyn, which is who I write it for anyway. Writing it is really relaxing, for some reason.

You should try this one (the whole website is devoted to HP fanfic, but I'm not going to read it all), but beware--it is not PG style sometimes, and can disturb your picture of innocent HP. Still, it is well worth it. :)

Arathin
06-24-2003, 03:39 AM
Alright Harry isn't innocent... just read the new book... it is actually like every other 15-19 year old boy is... well almost every other boy is...........

Rhiannon
06-24-2003, 05:32 AM
Yeah. My sister finally finished and I'm almost halfway through (I read all last night but I haven't touched it yet today). He's very...angry.

*snorts derisively* You're talking to the wrong person. Never say that anything comes before books to me. I don't take it well. I would and could live without sleep and food before I lived without my books!!! *slips into wild histarical ranting and slides, once again, under the bar... only this time Order of the Phoenix isn't the book with her, as she'd finished it, and mutters to herself about Rowlings.* That ruddy Rowlings woman and die horribly for what she did!!! but only after finishing the series, of course.....

My_Precious

That's called planning your budget ;) I love reading books too, and am reading something all the time.
I actually went up to the OoP books in the store, looked at them for a while, and then left...:(

Rhiannon
06-25-2003, 06:18 PM
Yeah- I obsessively buy books all the time- I loooove books *eyes glaze* But right now I'm not buying books because I am saving for a plane ticket in December (well I do buy books, but I'm not SUPPOSED to buy them, and I only did it because they were on sale). I have a whole lots of books I haven't read yet, too.

Arathin
06-25-2003, 08:25 PM
Yes I have many books that I have not read as well... but I tend to reread many books over as well. Like some books I own I've read ten to twenty times over... they look very very old...

Rhiannon
06-25-2003, 08:26 PM
That's how I am, too- I feel really guilty re-reading my books over and over when these books I haven't read yet are glaring at me...

My_Precious

Why don't you download books from KaZaa, or something like that? I know it's not as cozy to read as a book, but it's for free!

Arathin
06-27-2003, 02:28 AM
Yeah, but I only read on the computer when I'm dling music. It is just easier to buy the books. Cause I read and work and such. *everyone eyes the talking bar oddly before remembering Arathin is under there* So anyone need a refill or a new drink or such??? *grabs a gin and tonic for herself*

rowlings is getting morbid:( my friend didn't even read all the way thru, she decided that there was no element of hope, and everything was going downhill:o well, I see elements of hope, but I think she read further than I have

Arathin

Oh I know who dies as well... see I was the first to get my hands on it in my household. Now my mom is reading it. I think this book was sorta like Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back... It was basically the bad guys who won, but no there isn't No Hope in this book. There is lots of hope, but the book kinda goes Hope, No Hope, Hope at the very end. Just don't stop reading. It is the best book yet, if only that person didn't die. *tear*

Another Dr. Pib, dragon? *Arathin grabs another Dr. Pib and pours a generous amount of 'mom repellant' into it.* Hope it works out...

*Calms down a bit*

Dragon
06-27-2003, 09:13 PM
MP, I don't spoil, and I certainlky don't want to hear spoilers, but I'm not a die-harrd hp fan, so I'm not going 2 that thread:rolleyes"well everyone was already talking about someone dying, but at least they were good enough not to tell me who, I've narrowed it down 2 3 people tho

I don't plan to stop reading, I love her writing style, and even tho it is getting a little morbid, the plot is getting better, they used to be completely transparent.....or maybe I'm just smart? none of my friends thought it was that obvious, but I knew all along in the other books.....this one's stumping me a little

I've read the book a loooong time ago in russian, have seen russian movie, and have seen the new hollywood one too, but didn't like it (except for a few fight scenes on the ladders)...
Oh, and have seen a cartoon, only musketeers were dogs, and evil lady was a cat... Not helping much, eh? ;)

YayGollum

Not especially, but oh well. I'm just coming up with a new subject. I've never seen the book. I've seen a couple of movies about them, but I don't remember them very well. oh well. just wondering. Why like a movie just for the fight scenes? Ick. *collapses*

Rhiannon
06-30-2003, 12:28 AM
I didn't like the book (The Three Musketeers). I wanted swashbuckling and it was all about people sleeping with each other, bah. I think I was eleven. Very disappointed.

Zorro, on the other hand, is a great book. So's The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Dragon
06-30-2003, 01:53 AM
haven't read any of those, but I have seen a zorro and a three musketeers (does not know how many of each there are:confused: )

*is not intimidated by yay, is only humoring him*  :D

Rhiannon
06-30-2003, 02:26 AM
Zorro rules! Especially the black and white film The Mark of Zorro, with Basil Rathbone and Tyrone Powers, two of the best fencers in movie history. And the original pulp fiction novel (The Curse of Capistrano, more commonly known as The Mark of Zorro) is also awesome, and great fun.

Arathin

One Shmiroff, MP, and one cheerwine, Yay. I personally liked 'Dune' by Frank Herbert... very good book and although the movie isn't all that good... the mini-serieses are very good indeed. *hides under bar again with her whiskey* btw, *says the bar* the movie 'Hedwig and the Angry Inches' is a very amusing comedy which I think many of you would enjoy. *or at least it seemed like the bar said it...*

YayGollum

I haven't read many classical, hugely known books, it turns out, my taste in literature is [b]way[/i] different than the ppl that make things well known, so, sure, I'll watch the movies, but.....

like, huckleberry finn 4 instance, I hated it, hated it, hated it. I couldn't stand it, yet it was described by about 10,000 ppl as "one of the best books of all time" and stuff like that. ugh.

I haven't ever read Huck Finn- but I love Mark Twain's short stories.

I try to take the classics on their own as a book and not get hung up on them being classics.

no, when I'm reading them, I just think of them as really bad books, but afterwards, I'm like, "man, who could ever get everyone to read that?"

I haven't read any of mark twains short stories, but I'll bet u anything they're better than huck finn:rolleyes:

Look for 'An Encounter with an Interviewer', and see if you can't get someone to read it to you out loud with great aplomb.

It's screamingly funny.

I know what you mean, though. When I was 11 I tried to read A Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and didn't get a word of it. I'll have to try it again.

Well I personally don't like any of the "famous" "classics" either. That is why I write and scoure the fantasy section of my local book store for my favorite writers and for writers I've never read before.

Rhiannon

Classics are books like any other books- some you'll like, some you won't. I love Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, and I enjoyed All Quiet on the Western Front, The Old Man and the Sea, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Great Gatsby. But I was hated/was lost during Wuthering Heights and Heart of Darkness. And I can't read Shakespeare, though I love seeing it performed.

But I'm really a fantasy reader at heart. I don't read the big major series, though- I read some obscure stuff, some surreal, lots of fairy tale and mythology based stuff. Most of what I read is either sold as Young Adult or YA/Adult Fiction cross-over.

Arathin, what authors do you read? (idea- we could take all this book talk over to the Outcast Library thread)

Arathin

(nah tis more fun to sit around in a bar and talk... trust me. I have experience in this. even if you don't drink, which I can't, tis more fun to talk in a bar)

Well I obviously love Tolkien, which I blame on my mother because she would read The Hobbit as my bedtime story, and she taught me to read using the Lord of the Rings. I mean that, I am utterly serious. We didn't own a single "children's" book until my brother... Then I love Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Frank Herbert, Mercades Lackey, Madeleine L'engle, Tad Williams, Garth Nix, Cheryl Franklin, Douglass Adams, Ursula k. Le Guin, Anne Rice, a thousand others, and of course my great, great, great, great, great, great grand uncle Bram Stoker... I mean how can I, a vampire obsessive teenager, not love my own ancester's version of Dracula???

Rhiannon

Oh, all right then...in that case, can I get an iced mocha please?

*sits cross-legged in chair* Let's see....Garth Nix is awesome (and a nice guy, he visits Readerville sometimes), so're Madelaine L'Engle, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Douglas Adams- Mercedes Lackey's writing style leaves me wanting in the same way that Anne McCaffery's does- too dry, or something, but I don't care about the characters. Frank Herbert I will get around to one of these days, and Anne Rice is very much Not My Thing, though Bram Stoker's Dracula I did enjoy- Have you ever heard of Fred Saberhagen's The Dracula Tape? It's excellent, and very interesting if you're familiar with Dracula.

In the past few years most of what I've been reading has been fairy-tale based; there have been more and more books on those themes, too, a veritable fairy tale renaissance. A lot of them are fairly dark, and meant for adults, as fairy tales originally were before the Victorians doused them in bleach and got fairies and pixies mixed up. I've been trying to read more non-fantasy, though.

My favorites are Robin McKinley, Patricia McKillip, both authors I collect, Stephen R. Lawhead, Brian Jacques (I've been collecting the Redwall series for years now), Garth Nix of course, the Ellen Datlow/Terri Windling Fairy Tales anthologies, Patricia C. Wrede, Elizabeth Moon (wonderful military fantasy and SF), and of course CS Lewis and Tolkien. My dad read LOTR to me when I was five.

My Favorites:

Tolkien
C.S. Lewis - been on a huge Lewis spree lately, been trying to buy (well, not me, mom does the buying :D) all his christian apologetics books. Just got God in the Dock the other day, so reading that and working my way through Narnia again.
Patricia McKillip - I have more of hers than Charis, ha ha... need to get In the Forest of Sierre though, wanna guess what my $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble is going for? :D
Robin McKinley
Juliet Marillier - got Child of the Prophecy *finally* for graduation from Aerin, hurrah! It's not the right size paperback though, but at least I have it! I have the other two in the large paperbacks, this one is the normal sized paperback kind
Brian Jacques - I still read his books when they come out, but I'm not a huge redwall freak anymore... just took down all my redwall posters in my room and replaced them with art nouveau and pre-raphaelite posters.
Susan Cooper - If any of you haven't read her Dark is Rising sequence, go. forth. and. read! Excellent stuff, prolly my second favorite series after LOTR.
Gail Carson Levine - Gotta love wacked fairy tales! Ella Enchanted is still my favorite of hers
Kirstin Britain - I wish she'd hurry up and publish the sequel to Green Rider!

Ack! Susan Cooper! I forgot to say Susan Cooper! *smacks self* And Juliet Marrillier, they both rule.

Well, Tal, I've got all the McKillip's with Kinuko Y. Craft covers in hardback (except for Winter Rose, which is paperback), and The Forgotten Beasts of Eld (see Deep Thought) which I really really really wish they'd come out with a Craft cover for! I don't like the one I've got.

Must...have...Forests of Serre...But have you heard? The cover is shiny instead of the lovely matte dustcovers the other ones have. I'm hideously disappointed. It's evil.

Yes, but you don't have The Sorceress and the Cygnet, and The Cygnet and the Firebird, do you now? Hmm? ;)

Rhiannon

No I haven't *sulks* But I'm getting the omnibus of the Riddlemaster Trilogy, so I don't have to look at these *shudder* Darrell Sweet covers anymore. Bleeeeh. The man needs to be shot. Or at least they shouldn't hire him to do fantasy art anymore.

Talierin

*bwahaha* I have the omnibus! Except I have one problem with it... the border on it is upsidedown... if you really look at it closely there's little birds on it, and they're all upsidedown, heh...

Really? Weird. I've never examined it closely.

*gets Rhi her iced mocha* You want something from the bar, Tal?

I also liked Ella Enchanted. I loved how it was Cinderella and not Cinderella. I have been trying to get my book grabbing hands on a complete collection of the original Grimm fairy tales. Also just as a note on fantasy that you all might find interesting. In the book "Unfinished Tales" by our beloved J.R.R.Tolkien himself, is his essay 'On Fairy Tales' or something like that, but I read that and have gone back to reread such that essay several times. It is purely genious, as we would all expect, and explains why all the changes were made and such and works to correct the changes. It also is invalueable for anyone trying to write fantasy books themselves, such as my self... Just thought I'd pass that along.

Rhiannon

Thanks, Arathin *sips mocha*

Tolkien's Fairy Tales essay is awesome. It's one of my favorites (we have it in The Tolkien Reader).

I really enjoyed Ella Enchanted, but I didn't like the other Levine books I've read as much. Maybe it was a timing thing. But if you enjoyed Ella Enchanted, you'd probably like Patricia Wrede's The Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

Have anybody read Glen Cook's "The Garrett Files"? Those are one of my favorite series. It is like fantasy and detective story combined, and are very humorous too. They are much lighter than his more popular "Black Company" series (which are too long in my opinion, but first three books are still great).

I've never read the Enchanted Forest Chronicles thiniges you keep raving about, Rhi. What are they about, besides an enchanted forest? :)

Rhiannon
07-02-2003, 07:59 AM
They are spoofs of fairy tales, mostly- in the first book, Dealing with Dragons, Cimorene is an un-princess like princess who does all kinds of thinks princesses aren't supposed to do, like juggle and make cherries jubilee and fence. So she runs away and becomes a dragon's princess (dragons steal princesses to keep house for them, you know). They are very, very funny.

Yes the Tolkien Reader that was it... I should have checked before I said UT, but *shrugs* I look at cover art and grab the book I want, not the title when it comes to my tolkien books, because I can tell which book/story it is by the art, so sometimes my titles are messed up... hehe

Enchanted Forest sounds neat. I'll have to read that series after I suceed in getting all the Dragon Lance books I want aka all the ones that contain this certain wizard named Raistlin. I person think if you like the way Tolkien wrote, that you would like the way Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman write. They are very good. My second to tolkien actually. They best series is one of the older ones, 'Death Gate' seven books, but they like to write long serieses. They 'Dark Sword Trilogy' was alright, but not the best...

am I talking about them to myself or has someone else read their works???

Rhiannon

I've heard about the Death Gate series- it's on my to-find list.

well it is very old. I don't know if it is still in print actually. I've never seen it at the book store... but I have a copy so i haven't looked for it. *shrugs* You should definately read it if you liked the Lord of the rings. It is written more like LotR than the Hobbit, except there isn't a book that actually like ends with evil winning like the Two Towers does...

If you want the titles of the Death Gate books, in order, are:
Dragon Wing
Elven Star
Fire Sea
Serpent Mage
The Hand of Chaos
Into the Labyrinth
The Seventh Gate

and that is all from memory!!!
