Any guild member (or anyone else for that matter) who would like a custom avatar may correspond with me here and I'll see if I can put it together. I would like all of the Tolkienology guildmembers to have an Avatar similar to mine. The picture can be of your own choosing but I would like the guild tile to be animated over whatever picture you choose.
I can do it for you with little problem. Just email your picture at rpope123@bellsouth.net and I'll incorporate it into the Guild tile.
Anyone else who wants an avatar... just send me the picture. :);)

I was longing for the moment to personalize myself with an avatar! :p
Would you specify parameters of the picture? : format; size; etc.
And thanks for the offer! :p :p
Grond
09-08-2002, 02:42 PM
Lhunithiliel, you have to reach 100 posts to be able to post an avatar, so keep on posting. I don't need any specific size of picture. Simply email the image in any format or size and I will "square it up" and make sure it meets the 64X64 pixel criteria set forth by WM.
Go ahead and send me your picture and I'll have your avatar ready when you can post it. :)
Nenya, I'll work on yours tomorrow and it should be ready tomorrow evening. :)

I knew it! Oh, poor me! No avatar! :( :p :D
Kidding!
I know about the 100-limitation, of course.
But, listen what I've decided:
I'll send my picture to bith Grond and Confusticated and when they are ready, CAN I CHOOSE??? :p :p
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
It's fine with me, if Grond does not mind..:D
And if you want something specific about the way it is displayed (for example my avatar turns a page) just let me know.

To all people subscribed to this thread. I am deleting the files you send to us after we use them so as to free up space that our wonderful Webmaster so graciously provides us for free.
So, the minute you copy your avatar... please advise us so that we can delete the copies we have on the server. :) Thanks....

Dear Grond,
I would very much like an avatar(but being virtually computer illiterate,I can't do it myself).Would you have anything in hand compatible with my user name?
Grond
09-17-2002, 07:56 AM
Dwimmerlaik, just give me an idea of what type of picture you would like and I'll set it up for you. Of course, remember that you won't qualify for an avatar until you reach 100 posts. :)

Confusticated, under your name there is a line :
"Ef friend"- I often wnated to ask why is it only "Ef" ? Shouldn't it be "Elf friend" ?
Thanks for the offer to change my avatar. I still like the present, I got it not long ago.
Say, did you draw the elf on your avatar YOURSELF?

Or maybe the above is the other Grond, the one that destroyed the gates of Gondor.
It must be so, thinking now that you are the mace of Melkor.
Then look at this>>>
If like it, you can use it for a new avatar ;)........NOT that I don't like the present :)

Anyway since this is my hundred post I'd like to ask for your help about my coming Avathar. I have drawn it already and will put it here as soon as I can!

11-14-2002, 09:11 PM
No, Elen, I did not. I just have a nice collection of about 320 (or maybe more) photos from the movie and illustrations by various artists (I've downloaded those whose style I liked best) and another about 30 pictures of all types by unknown photographers.
The picture of Morgoth and Fingolfin is really something!!
Sometimes, I enjoy making collages, like our Guild's "home" for example. :)
So, today, on your birthday you have received your present - the post No:100!!
Congratulations! :)

Perhaps here is where I should post my suggestion to use our newly determined "coat of arms" into an avatar (did I get it spelled right this time?????) for Guild members with the appropriate "legend" beneath indicating rank. I think they are working to "finish up" the final design and I for one would be most happy and flattered to be able to use it under my "whatever that is" on the left when one posts.
I don't know if this is the correct "thread" for this suggestion, so, like the birds, I'm leaving my little bits of (in this case information) about to see if it gets to the proper person!
Húrin Thalion
12-09-2002, 05:14 PM
Oh MM I have downsized it to avatar size (I think) and attached it to a post at the thread coat of arms contest. I'll attach it here too. You must excuse the rough downsizing, I did it in paint!:) How do you make your avatar shift from one image to another? I'd really like to keep my honoured Prime Minister there but also have the coat of arms!
Húrin Thalion
PS: Am I the only one who honour politicians enough to have them in Avatars? First I had Georgia's president Eduard Shevardnadze and now it is Göran Persson.
PPS: Just checked, I could not attach it, go to the thread Announcing the coat of arms contest side two and it is there!

12-09-2002, 05:30 PM
Thank you for your efforts. I haven't the vaguest idea of how to attach one of those thingummies under my name! I will have to wait for some patient soul who doesn't mind technoboobs to explain it to me ssllooowwwllyy and cccarreefuulllyyy once everything is ready to go.
I liked your avatar though, such a cheerful looking chap! I thought it might be you! I would liked to have put on something, but since I don't know how to do "graphics", I couldn't! Hey! I was luck to be able to utilize the little smilies! :p
Húrin Thalion
12-09-2002, 05:35 PM
Oh that I can explaint to you as sssllllooowwwlllyyy as I can(I am a hasty youth after all ;)): Just go into user cp at the top menu, it is the one to the left. In there you get into the options menu and scroll down until you find the place where it says avatar. If you have a picture in the right size already, I recommend you save it someplace you remember, like My files. Then you press the browse button and go into My files and select the picture and press OK or OPEN. Thereafter you just press update avatar or what it is. Here is a slow guide for you ;)

And if that's not possible then can someone make a plain avatar with Guild of Tolkienology written in Golden Letters on a Black Background?

It is not that I don't like it. It's beautiful. But alas, it is a lovely child compared to yours truly - and frankly, I never looked that good even when I was that age! I'm decidedly more "lumpy", alas!
I think something less "personally pictorial" would be better. Your mushrooms sound good, or perhaps an old fashioned hearth or wood stove with cooking pots bubbling away - a nice old "colonial" kitchen. Or even lilacs in the sunlight. But I fear that something decidedly domestic and "old fashioned" is better suited to me than a lovely lady who at least does not appear to do much in the way of household chores!
I don't know where you go to "find" these pictures and probably with my current machine I couldn't access it even if you told me, but my new computer has come and should be hooked up this weekend. If you are willing to wait, next week I should be much more "tech friendly" and able to follow you into whatever pictorial realm you go to look at the pictures.
Again, thank you for all you efforts thus far but flattered as I am by such a beautiful avatar, if you could see old Mrs. Maggott, you would realize that it just isn't me (and too bad, if you ask me - and Old Maggott as well, I'm sure!).
God bless.

This thread needs some expanding. Designing avatars is good, but it doesn't pay the rent: this thread has had no customers for three months. We need some other design activity here to keep the thread alive!
How about designing some of the things listed below for Tolkien's characters or TTF forum members (especially yourself!):
* swords and other weaponry
* heraldry for the characters Tolkien didn't design an emblem for
* clothing and armour (Arwen would need her own thread!)
* castles and lairs etc.
* fonts
* book covers
* whatever else you can think of

Uuuuuuuuu... spooky;) Isn't there too dark to 'do' art? (just wondering)
BTW: Are there any windows or doors or... sth of that kind? (sorry, it's late... and those silly questions of mine:p;):D)
Lhunithiliel
10-28-2003, 07:08 AM
Spooky, eh? ;) :D
I lllllovvve it!!! :p
To me it looks so beautiful and so .... right to contemplate art. Don't you think? One "communicates" with art best if the surrounding world is ignored. This place provides it, doesn't it!
Manveru
10-28-2003, 09:59 AM
Seeing it as now (in the morning, when my eyes don't play "open-shut-shut" game;):p) I think it really does provide a good 'atmosphere' for art. After all, I've got some light with me everytime... everywhere I go...
:D
Eledhwen
10-28-2003, 11:28 AM
The torchlit look would display some things beautifully (are those mummified Elves along the walls?). Other art would need a brighter environment, as not every visitor can have Manveru alongside to provide the light. I remember Tolkien, in one of his letters, objecting to someone using the description "a Tolkien gloom" about something unrelated to his work. In T-mythology, light is a major feature, and the thing Melkor most fought over in one form or another.
Lhunithiliel

All right, we can think of some other hall.

More blue light?
Is it too pale? I thought of some evening-blue colored stone wrapped within a star-shaped pearl and I was trying to make it look like it. ..Oh...I'm still learning! :o
More blue light? Hey, blue angel, spread some, will you? ;) :D
As for "ordering" a jewel ... I KNOW who that one would be for! ;)
Hmmm.. Well I'm not Celebrimbor of Gondolin, you know ... But I'll think sth. appropriate. :)

They are totally out of my imagination. The first was drawn with a black biro, and the second with a gel pen, which has much better fluidity. The sorcerer keeps the tools for his strongest magic in the hollow of the tree.
