I know that the evenstar that Tolkien described in the book was far simpler than the eleaborate piece that they had in the films, but did you like it anyway? I personally think it was an exquisite very Elvish looking piece that was romantically incorporated into the film in a very special and well done way. What do you think?

in the book its supposed to be a single green gem. I liked the thing in the movie though. Just too big.

I thought it was a white gem. Oh yes it is! I just found this quote from the book
And she took a white gem like a star that lay upon her breast hanging on a silver chain, and she set the chain about Frodo's neck.
So perhaps the one in the movie is more accurate than we first thought.

The green gem you're thinking about is something else, given to Aragorn by Galadriel as the Fellowship was leaving Lorien. Here's the passage:
"Then she lifted from her lap a great stone of clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring. 'This stone I gave to Celebrian my daughter, and she to hers; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold to you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the house of Elendil!'" (Farewell to Lorien)

i thought that was the evenstar. Arwen gave aragorn the green gem and the white gem, i thought was something totaly different. Something to get you to the grey havens.

I liked the evenstar in the movie, i thought it was beautiful.
I guess i'm not so good at imagining things from books so i'm not at all sure how i imagined it.
perhaps the gem in the middle of the evenstar should have been green though (was it in the book? i can't remember)- but who am i to complain?:)
here is a picture of the beautiful evenstar:

I don't think the evenstar was suppposed to be green in the books. Arwen sent a green gem to Galadriel to give to Aragorn but I don't think it was called the evenstar. But perhaps the evenstar wasn't a gem in the books at all but just the name that was given to Arwen by her people. PJ could have taken from that and integrated it into a symbol of Arwen's love and immortality so that it could be more of a romantic symbol in the film. If so, well done!
