I've noticed there's no thread like this one... Since this is is the Guild of Tolkienology, I'd say that Tolkien's languages defintely qualify as a topic...
This can be very useful for all those role-players who wish to mane their swords, horses, etc... in different languages Tolkien invented.
And it can be very interested for all those linguists whi wish to learn more or share their knowlege.
Here the members (or anyone lese, for that matter) can ask questions about the languages, translations of specific words, lirics, etc, and also post links related to this topic.
I hope this will be fun and useful for all of us.
For the begginig, I have a question:
How do I translate these words into Sindarin (or Quenya) :
WING, (SUN)RAY, BLADE
Linguists, please, help!

Wing = ráma (quenya)
Sun = anar (noldorin)
Blade = lhang, magol (noldorin)
There you go :)

"Noldorin" lhang "cutlass, sword" should probably be updated to Sindarin lang according to Tolklang expert Helge Fauskanger. There is also S. megil Q. macil to choose from as well, or S. hathel "Broadsword-blade", crist "cleaver, sword", Q. lango "broadsword" for examples.
According to H.F.: Some words under "Noldorin" in Etymologies (a language preceding Sindarin in the story-exterior history of Tolkien's invention) that begin with intitial lh would remain so, because they ultimately derive from primitive sl, but words that derive from primitive L apparently yield L in Sindarin.
Some folk include Noldorin as a story-interior term to denote the 'accent' of some Sindarin speaking Noldor.
