I had a thought these last few days and I came to a crossroads and wondered, is TTF a rockin' bboard?
Is it wrong to use the word rockin'?
These are some members thoughts on the matter:
I'm not offended by Rockin'
What's wrong with Rockin'? I thought it had something to do with the music Rock 'n Roll or was a different word for shaking.
I personally think that TTF is "definitely" a rockin' bboard. With all of the movement of ideas in the forum, yet I wish that the majority would be Tolkien Related.:(
But what do I know about knowing things?
From The Praise of Folly:
For there are two main obstacles to the knowledge of things, modesty that casts a mist before the understanding, and fear that, having fancied a danger, dissuades us from the attempt. But from these folly sufficiently frees us, and few there are that rightly understand of what great advantage it is to blush at nothing and attempt everything.
Is it just Folly to attempt to examine the question "Is TTF a rockin' bboard?" I have just surpassed the fear of exposing the question and hope only that I'm not caught in the net of my modesty to reach an answer.

Dont' expect to have a forum all about the same stuff. I wish it was more Tolkien related to but...oh well!

It's the best message bored. I used to be on a Harry Potter one, and it wasn't nearly as cool, or deep. I think it was called Magichogwarts.com, and i sorta got sick of it really fast and left.

But, is it a rockin' bboard then?

Myself, I wouldn't say it's quite as rockin' as Stangnet (for example), but with not quite five percent of SN's membership here, I'd say we do okay.

For reference, there are around 30,000 members on Stangnet, and about 1600 here.

What does it matter how many members a board has? I think the Tolkien has had a greater impact on civilization than the Ford Mustang has, anyways...

Don't measure quality with quantity. It's like saying Patricia Cornwell is a better author because she wrote more books.

Ooh, let's get all offended because the Mustang board has more members than the Tolkien board.:rolleyes:

I'm just saying, with that many members it's kinda hard for a board not to "rock". If we had that many members here, I'm sure we'd be famous across the internet for "rockin'".

Plus, seeing as only about 400 of our members here actually post, we're doing really well.

Sheesh.

I'm not offended; it's just an observation. "Rockin'" isn't a word I'd use, but getting your meaning, I'd say "yes". I've visited other boards where people get away with posting insults and utter drivel. Not here (the former, anyway!)

Well, I at least know that this place is better than other "rockin' bboards"!;)
Horray for a just bboard and for respectful moderators in TTF.:)

The mods here are very respectful, as is the webmaster. In fact, not just respectful, I think I can venture a confident use of "rockin'" as an adjective as well. I'm glad we agree on that. :)

It's "rockin' all over the world..." ;)

Luthien I very much agree with your first sentence, though even among the generally fine Mods here seems to exist the "exception that proves the rule"...

But I think it's the whole of the members who make this a rocking board, no matter how good the management and staff is, they can only provide the "building", but IMO it's the inhabitants who make a house comfortable or not.

I'm one of the mods who prefers to live inside the house and keep it in one piece for my own enjoyment, as well as for the good of all ;)

TTF is definatly a damn good board. I have had been to mucho boards and this is defiantly my favorite. It seems really familar now and that . The Mods and Web Master do some great work concerning filteration.
The one thing I hate seeing all the time is sexual Language ect ect on the Internet . This is fantastic because Its totally clean.
I think that TTF is "rockin" in the sense that its a good decent Board. sure there are things I would change but overall I love TTF.
Concerning the matter of the matter of the unrelated Tolkien stuff I dont think its a problem. We only have One area "stuff and Bother" that is not realted to Tolkien in some way and we have Guilds . I have learnt a lot of things here that I didn't know about for example the "nation under one God"

IMHO I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling restless/fidgety waiting for the DVD and TTT to be released. I mean, I bet there's not a single Stuff & Bother post on Dec 19. I know the site is not dedicated to the films or anything, but there have been loads of new members since FOTR came out (myself included ;) )...

Walter - I agree with you wholeheartedly. Members certainly can determine the worth of a board, but I also think that member-mod interaction is integral to making the board "rockin'." Not to mention member to member. I'm happy to say that in all my days of lurking and posting, I've never run across a mod who wasn't helpful and cool, and almost every member here is the same. All in all - a huge thumbs up! :D
