If this already exists, then I'll delete it!

The idea to offer this thread comes from something that I've experienced since the first movie came out on screen.
Before it I had my own vision for the characters. Now, PJ's choice of actors has influenced my mind so much, that whenever I read about .. Aragorn (f.ex.), I see VM! And before seeing the film, I did not "see" my favourite Aragorn with the face of VM (don't get me wrong, however! I like VM!)

So, I thought, what YOUR vision of the characters would be

Oooh Oooh!

can I have Cassandra Peterson as Galadriel?
That would be an interesting choice.

RD

For those who don't know, Cassandra Petersin is better known by her alter-ego Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.

What do you say of THIS Arwen? ;)

People!!!
WHERE IS YOUR IMAGINATION????

No, how about an "Eowyn" and a "Faramir" like these two?

Ascamaciliel

ooh, brad pitt as faramir, hot. but i don't think getting really famous actors would be a good idea. it wouldn't seem like they were in character. i can't explain it really, but seeing semi-new actors in LOTR rolls was a good idea i think.

I agree, I think having Brad Pitt play a role in LoTR would be strange...

Forget it all,

I started a thread a long time ago about casting the Simpsons in LOTR.

There were some phenomenal suggestions such as:

Mr. Burns = Sauraman "Excellent Wormtongue! Grab my staff for me will you?"
Smithers = Wormtongue "With Pleasure Sir!"
Maggie = Gollum - visual thing
Moe = Elrond "Yeah, well it can't stay here! Now get out!"
Barney = Tom Bombadil "Hey, ho, merry dol....burrrrp!"
Marge = Galadriel "Will you look in the mirror Frodo? - Just don't make a mess!"
Nazgul = the teenage gang (Nelson, Jimbo, and the other guy) "Give us the ring or we'll pull all your gonch!!"
Frodo = Bart (find the ring in a cereal box)
Any character you can imagine = HOMER!!!
Sauron:"Giiive me the ring Bart/Frodo! Oooh! Lembas!"
Gandalf:"Noooo, you can't cross!...Do'h!"
Balrog: "Oh come on! Let me cross! The bathroom's on the other side! [Homer hoping from leg to leg - falls] Do'h!!

And on, and on, and on...

It was a good thread - I think it's been deleted now though....

I see Luthiniliel you disapprove of the casting of PJ.

I too believe there were some miscasts. But just don't touch sir Ian McKellen. He was perfect.

I suggest the following lady (italian) in the role of Eowyn (for example), although I don't know her acting abilities

Oh please! Can't you people come up with any other women than all those barbie dolls? Geez, I mean I don't see anyone here picking Ema Thompson for a roll? She's a great actress if she's not a barbie doll.

I mean, Hey! Why don't we just pick the biggest pair of "bahoongas" and be done with it?

Further, I stand by my animated cast!

You miss the point. We're not casting here a great actress, but someone to play the 2 MOST beautiful female elves on ME. Would you imagine Galadriel to have brown hair? Ema thompson is one of the most talented actress but would definitely be miscast for any role. Instead, PJ wisely chose Blanchett who besides having an elfish appearence, is also very talented. Of course Tyler can't act, but heck we can't have evreything.

JanitorofAngmar, let me drop in a hint to you..... Have you ever thought that TTF is a community of people from places ALL OVER THE WORLD? If your Simpsons are popular in the States, what makes you think that they are in the rest of the countries? They are funny, I admit, but I have not made this thread to mock the movie, because I think that making it was a MOST serious matter.
It's just a little fun-game. Besides, as Gate7ole has noticed, I disapprove some of PJ's choices so..... Even if we can't change things, let's just have fun and practice our imagination! ;) :D
Gate7ole, this beauty - what part do you think she could play?

JanitorofAngmar
10-25-2002, 06:19 PM
gate7ole,

Yeah. That makes sense. I'm just so tired of the "stock Holywood-babe" being inserted into any and every movie that makes it out of tinsel town. But I get your point, and yeah you wouldn't cast Kathy Bates in the role of "Miss America" or something. I conceed your point *bow*

But how about Marge Simpson instead (I think she's a babe!)

Lhunithiliel,

Ummm...yeah

*insert sarcasm* Really? All over the world? Wow! I would have never thought! *end sarcasm* Gee read my profile - I'm NOT FROM THE u.s.a.!

Further, as I stated before there was a thread along the same lines incorporating casting changes from the Simpsons. If you consider that a lack of "fun" and "imagination" then I feel sorry for you. Besides clearly Nevele11 liked it. Also, Lhunithiliel, I was not mocking the movie! Sorry to tread on you sacred beliefs.

Nevele11,

Hey! Great idea! I don't think anyone came up with that one.
Yep, more I think of that the more I think it works.

it would be cool to see. and Lhunithiliel, sorry for shortly steering the post, off topic.

One more thought for the casting of Aragorn. I expected the actor playing this role should have a more grim voice. VG's voice is a bit tremble. A deeper voice (like that one of Boromir's actor) should be prefered.
By the way I saw the trailer and Gandalf the White kicks some a**.

I have just watched a TV show on one of our TV-channels. Guest there was a writer, they said was one of the most popular in the world! in writing detective stories.
His name is Lee Child (I'm not sure about the spelling). He said that he had recently sold to New Line the rights to make a film out of one of his books. They have already invited for casting two major actors - Brad Pitt and Vigo Mortenson!
Well, what d'you know! ;) :)

Maybe I won't change VM in this recasting thread, after all....especially taking into consideration that I have over 30 his pictures from the movie and I'm expecting more! :D

especially eddited for JANITOR
*NO sarcasm whatsoever* - Hey, please, don't hang me! I am glad that you posted your idea and the information about that other thread... Honestly!
Listen, instead of fighting out of some misunderstanding, do you think you can provide some pictures demonstating your idea? Common! It may be fun!
I still stick to the not-cartoons actors! ......May I? ;) :) :D

OK, I found an actress who could play Eowyn. She is Naomi Watts.
I hope (for your own shake) you know her. The blode of "Mulholland Drive". The critics were in favour and some say she has great acting abilities. Plus she is good looking. So, I'll vote for Naomi!
Here's a pic

The casting was absolutely perfect, folks. You just don't realize it yet :). Miranda Otto has the perfect balance between resilience and restraint for Eowyn. I am just thinking of that one shot of her standing at the door of Theodens hall, looking out, with the wind blowing in her hair. I can't think of another actress that could better fit. Certainly not Naomi Watt :).

Lhunithiliel,

Yeah. Peace.:) :)

BTW I saw a Simpson's episode this week where they did a take off on Harry Potter, so why not LOTR?

I kept thinking how much better it would be if they had done LOTR.

Maybe this season.

An actor who I always invisioned as Aragorn was Sam Elliot. He's done a lot of cowboy movies and was also in the movie "Roadhouse" with Patric Swayze. Although he's always played characters that are very "American", his grizzled, lean, rough looks combined with his way of doing the right thing seems to me to fit the image of "looking foul, but feeling fair". He's also a little older looking, something I pictured with Tolkien's description of a man with his hair shot with grey.
Also along these lines, I always thought Tom Selleck would make a good Boromir. His rugged good looks would make him a nice fit as a leader of men and poster boy for Gondor. I always saw Boromir as a very charasmatic figure, leading the armies of Gondor and Selleck seems to fit the bill for that, but also be capable of playing the role of one who succumbs to temptation. Again, he's also a very "american" actor, so that might be an obstacle to casting him in Middle Earth!:)

I alway thought that David Bowie would make a fairly cool Celeborn.

maybe not

This is interesting!
I wish you had provided some photos, as I, for example, have no idea how these look like.... Can you? Can you provide pictures of these two?

And Rangerdave, David Bowie - YES! :)
BTW, I wish Celeborn had more part in the film! Martin Coax(sp?) could then do better.... don't you think?
I wonder what Mr.Bowie would have done with this role, considering how short it was!

The casting was FAR from perfect both in looks and character. Gandalf, Saruman, Sam and Boromir fit well physically. Gandalf, Galadriel, and Boromir fit the character emotionally. The rest....well....

Though I vehemently argued against Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, make-up can do wonders with a homely person...Still not the ideal elf queen. I always thought that a younger Morgan Fairchild (Chandlers mom on Friends for those who don't know her) would have been great.

David Bowie??? Weren't the elves homely enough in the movie????

M-m-m-m....... Nah! Sorry, Longshanks, but somehow I can't imagine this man as Aragorn.... Perhaps without the moustache......? I don't know! Make-up can really make wonders! Look at Orlando Bloom! ;) :D

And Thorin, why NOT David Bowie?! Oh, what a perfect elf he would make!

And look at this "she-elf" (again! as I have posted her pictures before, I think). I still think she would have made a perfect "Arwen"!

A clean shaven Aragorn? THAT is something I've never imagined. In fact, I wish Viggo has sported a full beard rather than the stubble he had in TFOR. He did a great job in the film, but I always thought of Aragorn as a little older, looking maybe 40ish.
Angelina Jolie is incredibly beautiful but maybe a little to sexy to play Arwen. Imagine the outcry from people who hated "Action Arwen" if Laura Croft played her. :)

:D
Look, I said "without moustache", not 'clean shaven"... :p
And I was referring to the other actor ...
As for VM, he looks quite ALL RIGHT with the stub :)

And for Angelina...yeah, this is the problem with popularity in one particular image... But she is so....feminine and tender, too. I really did not like too much the idea of Arwen being a warrior-elf-princess, so after reading the book I mostly imagined her as a tender loving and extremely beautiful elf-lady. This is probably why I was a bit disappointed by the way Arwen was presented in the movie..But, hey, who am I to judge?!, :

It would be really exciting to see more suggestions in this thread - concerning ALL and EVERY possible creature or/and character.
