Where are you from, Ms Greenleaf?

Yayayay!! Spring is coming!!!

Deans should suffer for all they do to us... No air-con in summer, no heating in winter and polluted water with heavy metals -if only you got music from those taps- during the whole year... Punishment! :D ;)

I think it means land-lord or something.:)

OK_I'd like to ask a question in the get-to-know.

What's the top 3 uses for the internet for you?
*mine are*
1.Information-seeking. (encyclopedias are sweet)

2.Songs/artwork/posters (I take pictures to Kinko's to make).

3.Shopping for anything. (I buy clothes "in-person")

------->Just wondering what ya do at any time!:)

Elbereth

1. Check my emails
2. Chat with friends
3. Come onto TTF

I also occasionally come to check out what is going on in the world...look up job postings...research whatever...or just play games.

Deans are the head of the faculties in a university ie Dean of Medicine, Dean of Biology etc

I use the Net for the same reasons as Elbe :D

legoman

hmm, uses eh? e-mail, forums and guitar tab!!!!
that was easy, next question please...

DGoeij

Internet?

1. Keeping in touch with friends who manage their agenda the same way I do and are therefore impossible to make an appointment with.

2. Visiting forums where I meet very disturbing people sometimes. I've been on this Tolkien-Forum for some time, and really I'd never imagine the ... D'oh!

3. Quick acces to any information I may need.

menchu
03-12-2003, 08:11 PM
1. I got internet conection at home due to this, so... Downloading Zoology notes

2. Checking mail, messages and posts and talking to friends/mates/penpals wherever I enter, especially this forum. (Man, I've been here for over a year!)

3. Music, in all its art form.
Not only Pereza - Ed. :D

Information too, but I don't know where to place that option...

greypilgrim
03-13-2003, 04:44 AM
Oh yah, the TTF too! hehehe

I usually have about 4 web pages open at any time when I'm online (which is alot)..and just flip back and forth between them.

legoman
03-13-2003, 05:25 PM
4 isn't alot, when I'm at home I usually open a least 10. I often crash it from opening too many, I find it funny when I have to scroll down three start bars to get to my last window, hehehe.

All the snow around me has melted! Yah! Now the fun starts. Oh yeah, thats how I spell W-O-R-K (fun). Sorry, I'm just overly excited this year about certain things.

1. That music store I work at is gonna really help me out, even though I'm leaving soon (in about a week). Meaning, I think I'm going to start up a website dedicated to musicians, and I'm pretty sure they will help me out w/camera, pics, commissions, etc.(details are in the making). *hopes the folks there aren't spying, but could care less, they know all about TTF!*

I sent them like 10,000 word-e-mails detailing my interests, plans, and details of what I want to do. They seem to like my ideas. Cool.

2. Wow, the spring is already here. That's when I get busy. Cleveland is harsh for an exterior painter in the wintertime. I hibernate mostly then, and take $$$ losses. Dang! I wish it was 70 degrees year-round with no rain ever around here! Oh well, days off are fun too!

-->Dudes, I might not be around too much coming soon! I'll be moving, focusing. I'm sure that's false, and I'll be around forever, rambling on and on. OK_nevermind that, I'm not going anywhere. (evil laugh)...unless someone says, "go away or I'll kill you".
Then I might have to get up and get out. Until then ;) I'll be around (just maybe not so much) the TTF.

That's because I've been either extremely stupid or very smart to have left this thread without a ' topic'. Random talk in my life tends to revolve around silly jokes:

An asian fellow walked into the bar I was drinking at yesterday and said to the bartender: "Na-he tong chia naah, coca-cola!"

The bartender (utterly puzzled off course) asked: " Two beers and a WHAT?"

I just finished making the most delicious and most attractive meal that I have ever made in a long time!

I made a garlic scallion chow mein noodle stir fry with baby corn, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and sauteed tofu cubes, garnished with fresh scallion leaves.

And then on the side I created a fresh tofu marinaded with soy sauce, bonito, sesame seed and fresh scallion.

It looked like it was straight out of Gourmet magazine! *pats self on the back*

Fetal pigs? That's nothing.
Last year I had to operate on a sheep, and sew it's stomach lining to it's skin, then stick a tube through it.
Then a few months later, we had to empty out it's stomach a few times, and stick a few nylon bags in there. The stench was terrible.

Actually, we don't get to dissect anything. The cadavers (human, not animal) are all pre-dissected and we just move stuff about and look at them. I'm not a big fan of anatomy, the smell tends to make me feel ill :(

But when you say 'fetal pigs' and 'a sheep' you mean they're dead, don't you?

Aulė

Well the sheep were alive. Otherwise it would sort of defy the purposes of the experiment, since we we testing what sort of nutrients the sheep was intaking during autumn...

Most likely not...

fetal pigs were dead

they're mothers were born to get killed while pregnant with the pig.. my pig was two times bigger then everyone's and it stuck out of the tray.. then, being stupid teenagers, this guy cut off his pigs head and put it on a pencil.. that was gross.. I got my partner to do the whole thing for me.. i don't like animal dissections

menchu

I do like animal disections. There is a lot of beauty of the mistery of life in them. However, I do NOT like vivisections...

In a year or two -and if I ever reach the third year at my degree- I will have to 'cut' and 'sew' frogs and rats that will be alive. Considering the purpose of these practical classes is to learn how to use the needle, I have thought it unnecessary to work with them that way. Medicine students deal with human corpses when they learn. Why should I then deal with alive animals?
So, again, if I ever get to that point, I have chosen not to take those practical classes. Thank goodness they're not compulsory.

But at least I know I'm using the right stuff, so that's a start. And I'm formulating another line of argument for the debate (or is that debate for the argument, I've lost track ;) ) so it's all going swimmingly right now.

Well, I'm Richard, and I live in California which is in the US. I have read the LOTR novels and I enjoyed the films. Gandalf and Treebeard are my favourite characters. I also like Star Wars and Star Trek. I like to read, sketch, and daydream on my spare time when I'm not online. Classical, New Age, international music and indie rock are my favourite types of music. Pastas, vegetables and fruit juices are my favourite foods.

Hannah- you are crazy. I can handle killing animals and dissecting them- but I would be no use with dead human bodies! Even if I hadn't drunk excess amounts of alcohol the night before... (no surprise that you had been drinking the night before. Admit it- you go to wine-tasting "courses" every night. Don't you!? ;) )
One of my mates is studying dentistry, and has told me how bad it is working with dead humans. Most of the students in his course can't bare to look at the eyes of the "patients" so they cover them with a cloth. Anyway, after hearing what they do with the bodies I have decided that it wouldn't be a good idea to donate my body to science. Just imagining people like Hannah attacking me with a scalpel is scary! :p

One of my best friends had to do that for her anatomy class. It sounds disgusting, but cool at the same time. Did it smell bad? :p Uhhh... it creeps me out thinking about it, but sounds kinda cool. :DActually, it's not as bad as it sounds. Our university doesn't let us do dissection, so all the bodies are pre-dissected (prosected is the technical term). Basically, we just get to look and poke about in our anatomy practicals. I hate looking at the hands and face (I've never actually had the guts to look at the face of a body - there's a page in my textbook I can't look at because of that), but the rest of it doesn't look human, so it's not so bad. You're right about the smell though - it's awful. It's just getting into summer here, so the anatomy room is heating up nicely and they need to use more formaldehyde than usual - that's the worst bit of it all.

By the way, I hope this discussion is deemed "safe" for TTF. I know it's a bit gross for a lot of people, but I think it's a valid discussion. Too many people are disgusted by death and dissection and stuff, and I think it's a good idea to let them know exactly what we do. It's just an educational tool, like books or live patients. Loads of people find it really interesting, but I detest it, mainly because I can't remember all the stupid names of the body!

Elbereth

So they actually brought it to your school or whatever? Wow, our school wouldn't let them do that. The people in the anatomy class had to go to some place just to look at the bodies. Yeah, it sounds really gross. The friend I mentioned earlier talked about some having cancer and stuff, and seeing their black lungs and tumors. :o Gross! And touching the intestines and everything. Well, I'm at medical school at Edinburgh Uni so we have an anatomy department based there. Edinburgh has a long tradition of anatomical discoveries and the medical school here is one of the oldest in the world. It's a pretty cool place to study with all that history! Here's a picture of one of our lecture theatres: http://www.mvm.ed.ac.uk/history/history5.htm

At school, the closest we got to doing anything cool was when our Biology teacher brought in a sheep's heart and lungs that she bought out of the butcher's and dissected for us. I also saw a dissection of a bull's eye when I was on holiday in California, but you're not allowed to do that here because of BSE.

We had to disect some animals in biology class in high school; a cow's eye, a lamb's heart and a shellfish. It was a long time ago (10 years or so) and since then I haven't done any disecting. I studied history, so that's not very surprising.

What is the best thing about being a tween?
Best think abour being a tween is that you don't have to act a certain way. You can just be yourself and do what you want, rather than have limits. You don’t have to act all “grown up” and you can let the child in you run wild most of the time. Whereas if you were older (35+ depending if time was on your side) it would look rather off if you tried to the a normal tween thing, eg: try skateboarding. It would be very humiliating for you whereas for a tween, they can just laugh it off and get back up on their feet.
:p
