My Character: Ariana Fair Lady of Lorien

Race: she is 1/4 elf, 1/4 faye, and 1/2 human although she resembles her mother's race more than her father's

Gender: Female

Height: 5' 11"

Hair Color: copper brown

Eye Color: moss green

Family: Her parents are both dead, but she looks upon Galadriel and Celeborn as mother and father as it is they who raised her. Her biological father was Arathorn, father of Aragorn. Her mother was a half faye and half elf, but she died in the forests of Lorien shortly after her daughter was born due to wounds she received from a mysterious assailant. Aragorn Son of Arathorn is her half brother although he is unaware that he has a sister.

Weapons: a long thin sword that she uses only in great need for the bow and arrow are her main defense. she sought training as a warrior in Lorien, but she is very much a lady in some regards.

Character: she never lies. she is quite fearless in regard to her own personal safety but she fears for the life of her friends and for the innocent. She favors the quiet cool of night and the silver stars over the warm sunshine of the day and her heart lies in the forest that has always been her home. Peace she finds in the sounds of the wind and falling water and rain. She sings with them in the inborn language of her mother's departed people and it is a language that none save the birds understand. She has not yet the heart of any man.

Age: She is about 80 years of age but her birthdate is unknown. She is also immortal due to the blood of her mother's people that flows in her veins.

Ok, my character shall be:
1. Name = Iaurcalion
2. Race = Elf of Mirkwood
3. Gender = Male
4. Height = 6' 2"
5. Eye color = Piercing Blue
6. Hair: long and woody brown
7. Weapon of Choice = Bow and arrow, and a mithril sword for hand-to-hand combat
Sword description ~ Mithril blade and hilt. The hilt has a braid of gold and silver that wraps its way around the grip up to the crossguard. In the crossguard are three perfect blue sapphires. In battle it glows with a white flame. This flame grows with the intensity of the battle. Its name is Celeb Naur, which means White Fire
8. Background = I am a traveling companion to Legolas Greenleaf. I am a lover of the night and the stars and the forest. I find great joy in life and in the world around me and my laughter brings peace to the fellowship. I also have skill in song. I am 2500 years old and I have spent a great deal of my life as a wanderer so I am well accounted with the lands of Middle Earth. I am an unknown decendant of Beren and Luthien Tinuviel.

I will of course most likely develop my character more.

Galdor
10-31-2002, 03:48 PM
Here's my profile,

Name: Galdor Sandaórë
Creature: Elf
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Birthplace: The Gray Havens
Home: The Grey Havens though he often wanders
Animal: He has a type of Peregrine Falcon that is now all but extinct in ME. She was given to him by his father when he was still young, he named her Sureatsa. She has the ability to change from the size of an ordinary falcon to about a little smaller then a troll. Galdor can talk to her both telepathically and normally, they can always sense one another's presents and though they cannot talk over far distances, they can feel if one of them is in danger, injured ect, or is one of them is in great need of the other. When she is in her large form she is strong enough to carry Galdor a few miles.
Magic: yes. it gives him senses, strength in fighting and endurance. he can sense evil and also has strong healing powers. His sword (Aicanáro) is also magical. it will never break or grow dull. It is one of the sharpest swords ever made. and it will shine with a blue/white flame in his wrath or grow dim in his despair. It also guides it's blade towards evil while in combat and shies away from allies.
Weapon: sword, Bow, two daggers, five throwing knives(he caries many more in his pack, but normally only wears five)
Appearance: is average in height for a Elf, has Long gold/brown hair. blue eyes. he is usually dressed in light elven or mithril mail covered with a elven cloak (like the ones of Lothlorien) or completely in black.
Personality: Good sense of humor, is normally light-hearted though he can be a very serious person when he needs to be. He is always to trusted, likes to take leadership, is easy going. and almost always keeps his cool.
History he was born early-mid Second Age. His parents where both killed in the wars with Souron. After his parents death Cirdan(his uncle) took Galdor and his sister as his own children and tought them every thing he could. As time past Galdor was found to be very trustworthy and stouthearted and so was given the name Sandaórë. He also became the most skilled Elf in fighting that Cirdan had yet seen at the Havens. His sister was killed my a poisoned orc arrow while Galdor and her were in Mirkwood. Galdor stills blames himself for it, because he was the one who wanted to go to Mirkwood and because he knew that he had great power in healing, but he had never taken time to develop his healing powers and was therefore not strong enough to heal her. From that point on he trained under Elrond until he had developed his powers to such a exstent that his healing powers were second only to Elrond.

Don't we need a discussion thread so we can keep this thread clean? If so, we can use http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6770&pagenumber=3 can we?

Here goes my profile:

Name: Hamann Sorlennson
Creature: Human of Gondor
Age: early 30s
Gender: Male
Place Born: Gondor

Looks: Hamann is tall and strong, just as it is normal between the men of Gondor. Standing 6'2" tall and with a weight 170 lgs, he can very much become intimidating, but his nice smile and trustfull eyes make sure people find themselves comfortable when alone with him. Hamann has tanned skin with dark brown eyes and light brown hair.

Weapons: Hamann takes as his weapons one spiked-club and two daggers. He usually relies on his spiked-club to engage in melee combat, leaving his daggers to be used when a more silent and discrete approach is necessary, or when his spiked-club is out of reach.

Magic Yes/No: No.

History: Hammn will be in our RP the equivalent of Boromir in LOTR

Personality: Usually, Hamann looks and acts as if he relaxed and calm, trying always to be rational and not give to mush atention to his insticts. Deep inside, Hamann is always worried about all the events surrounding him, perhaps even too worried. Nevertheless, Hamann is as friendly as posible.

Clothing/Armor: Hamann's clothes are completely normal, usually being of a green tone. Over his clothes he uses a dark cloak, so that he may conceal the weapons he carries with him. He wears no armor.

Softly the cool breezes whispered through the autumn leaves of the Valley of Rivendell. The House of Elrond lay in silence save for the sound of the water that flowed down the cliffs and tinkled in the fountains. The scouts had returned bringing news that the Nine had been scattered and were now shapeless wraiths returning to Mordor. Orcs were mustering in the east and the army of Saruman was growing. His spies had been seen going hither and thither about the land in search of any news of the ring. For now it was hidden in the safety of house of the elves. But it could not stay there long …
Today was a day of council, a day of decisions. The time had now come for a road to be chose upon which the fate of many would travel. Representatives had been sent from the varying allies of Middle Earth that as a whole they might find wisdom and counsel and that as a whole the destiny of Isildur’s Bane might be decided. The wisest of the House of Elrond had been gathered there along with the grey wizard Gandalf, Aragorn Son of Arathorn, Bilbo and his nephew Frodo, elves from Mirkwood, dwarves from Dale, and others from various parts of the world who had chosen to join with the enemies of Sauron. They were all gathered in the fountain court in the very heart of Rivendell. They were seated in a ring at the head of which was Elrond seated beneath an ancient oak tree whose golden and scarlet leaves were casting an amber light upon the company. High up in its branches, seen by none there, crouched a cloaked figure who listened silently to all that was being said below …

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 02:35 AM
"Friends you have been gathered here today to answer the growing threat of Mordor," spoke Lord Elrond as he rose from his seat and eyed the company with his piercing gaze. "Here it must be decided what is to be done with Isildur's bane, the ring, the least of rings that should have been destroyed when it was first cut from Sauron's hand. It can no longer remain here." His gaze turned to look at the small golden band that lay upon the stone pedestal in the center of the court. A wave of seeming agony quickly swept his face as if a long forgotten and painful memory had entered his mind. "This evil cannot be concealed by the power of the elves any longer. The decision concerning it’s fate concerns the fate of us all. You who are strangers here from distant lands must council together to find this fate." He sat and looked at each in turn who was seated there.

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 02:42 AM
As none spoke, Elrond lifted his voice, "Each of you has been sent to give and receive council and aid. Speak now if any have some to give or has need to receive. What say you?"

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 02:43 AM
Frodo shifted uneasily in his seat next to Gandalf. There were many fair and noble people gathered there, and he wondered that he a mere hobbit should be seated there with such great people. Bilbo patted his hand and smiled encouragingly. Then sleepily nodded his head.

Anamatar IV
11-05-2002, 02:53 AM
In the center of Gondor, miles from Minas Tirith, all could see a dark cloud in the east. A hush was now upon all the lands. Not a bird or beast was east of the Anduin nor west. A dread fell upon the morgul vale. Rumour had it that shadow had snuck in. Anamatar walked along the gravel road up to the palace of Dol Amroth. Prince Imrahil had summoned him. Imrahil was a king of men. Great as the men of Numenor long ago, wise as the elves of rivendell. The doormaster led Anamatar to the seat of Imrahil.

"You summoned me, sir?" anamatar asked
"Yes. As you know, mordor is becoming a threat to us. The mines in the east have been inhabbited by orcs of the east. Lord Denethor wished to send men to those areas to mark the travels of orcs. I will send you." Anamatar bowed and left the hall. He returned to his home and quickly packed his bags. He strapped a sword, knife, and bow to his sash. He threw his packs onto his horse and sped away. It was more than a hundred day journey to that area by foot. And speed was needed.

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 02:56 AM
Gandalf gazed around at the company. His eyes searching. His mind pondering and waiting with expectation of what would be decided. Ever and anon his eyes fell upon the ring. It seemed such a mere trifle and yet it embodied such a great evil. His gaze fell to Frodo where the young hobbit sat nervously in his chair awaiting the decision of the council to be made. The poor lad had gone through so much with so much show of strength and character. Gandalf dreaded the very idea that this hobbit might have to go any further, but somehow in his heart he knew ...

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 03:03 AM
High up in the tree, the hooded figure watched and waited. Down below the council sat in silence, each in his own thoughts. Such a great decision would have to be carefully pondered. It might take hours. The time was not yet right for the shadow to make itself known ...

Galdor
11-05-2002, 04:05 AM
*Galdor stood and said,* "What are to do to rid our selves of this? Is it to be destroyed? And if so how? Or are we to take and drop into the depths of the sea? Or are we to simply hide it here, from the enemy? *Galdor the sat down and waited for an answer.*

Flame of Anor
11-05-2002, 04:54 AM
Iaurcalion stood and said, "For the enemy now knows where the Ring is, and he will send his hoards to recover it." Iaurcalion then looked around the ring of people who had gathered. He looked deep into their eyes as if to see what they were thinking, and then said, "It must therefore be destroyed."

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 05:03 AM
Elrond nodded his head in solemn agreement. "Iaurcalion speaks truth, Galdor. This ring can no longer be concealed for the Enemy knows that it was not destroyed as he long ago thought. He now knows it has been found and all his will is set upon it. Most likely he expects that one will try to weild it therefore revealing himself to Sauron's naked eye. That however would be folly for none save Sauron has the strength of will to use it, for it was made by him and is his alone. It is all together evil. A course must then be laid for how and when this thing of evil will meet its doom. Until it is destroyed, none are safe."

Nenya Evenstar
11-05-2002, 05:33 AM
Gandalf stared at the faces of those assembled. Fear, doubt, distrust, worry - many things were suggested throughout each face whether Elven or mortal. He nodded his head from underneath his big bushy eyebrows to emphasize Elrond's last comment - the Ring must be destroyed.

Gimli stirred, "Then why do we not destroy this thing now and once for all?"

"The Ring cannot be destroyed by the forges of the Elves, or the hammers of Dwarves, or even the waters of the sea," Gandalf spoke. "There are only two ways with which to destroy the One Ring of power, for it is strong and does not take willingly to destruction: To be destroyed in the belly of some great dragon, or to be cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came. The former is all but impossible as all of the dragons are flown or perished; therefore, the latter is our only choice." Silence hit the assembly, and doom hung in the air like a veil. Not even a bird broke the stillness.

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 05:43 AM
"That, I fear, is what has been in my mind all along. The ring must be destroyed in the fiery mountain where it was forged. It must be taken upon the perilous road to Mordor. I do not feel that it is the right of any here to lay it upon another to do this deed. However, one of you must do this," Elrond spoke his mind.

Nenya Evenstar
11-05-2002, 05:49 AM
The silence could now be felt. No one even looked up, but each man was in his own thoughts and did not bother to look at his neighbor. No one was willing to take up the task - indeed many deemed it folly. Hamman stirred and looked impatient. Gandalf could see that he was about to erupt, for good or for ill he knew not, but he expected the former. He looked at Elrond and the two understood. Then they waited.

Flame of Anor

Bilbo abruptly stood and said, "Very well, very well, Master Elrond! Say no more! It is plain enought what you are pointing at. Bilbo the silly hobbit started this affair, and Bilbo had better finish it, or himself. I was very comfortable here, and getting on with my book. If you want to know, I am just writing an end for it. I had thought of putting: and he lived happily ever afterward to the end of days. It is a good ending, and none the worse for haveing been used before. Now I shall have to alter that: it does not look like coming true; and anyway there will evidently have to be several more chapters, if I live to write them. It is frightful nuisance. When ought I to start?"

Ariana Undomiel
11-05-2002, 06:22 AM
Elrond smiled at the elderly hobbit. These small creatures never ceased to amaze him. Their courage and stoutheartedness was admirable. But a shadow hung on his heart. It was not this hobbit who should be bearing the burden. It was no longer his to bear. He remained silent.

Anamatar IV
11-05-2002, 03:37 PM
A white horse sped away from the pelennor of Minas Tirith. Anamatar, robed in green and brown, had stopped there for provisions and a last word with the steward of Gondor. Now Anamatar would not stop against his will. But maybe fate had different plans for him than to reach the mountains of mist in a few days.

Anamatar was riding a great pace along the rivers of that area. His horse was slowing after 2 days of galloping. He was now at a trot. Anamatar brought his horse up to a halt. Up ahead a band of horsemen rode towards anamatar.

"You do not have permission to enter the land of Rohan." Bellowed the head horsman with a spear at anamtars throat.

"I have been sent by the steward of Gondor and the Prince Imrahil to ride to the mountains of mist. Orcs of Mordor have taken over the once great mines. I need speed." Anamatar quickly replied. Another horsman spoke:

"Lord eomer, would a knight out of dol Amroth be clad in beggars clothes? Slay him now and take his great horse!" At this points Anamatar pulled back his cloak revealing his mithril coat of mail, shining bright in the warm sun.

"Indeed I am arrayed as the knights of Amroth. I wear travelers cloaks for I am a traveler now. Let me pass or fear the might of Gondor upon your borders." The horsmen of Rohan moved aside and let Anamatar pass. His horse was rejuvinated now and was at a great pace. This hold up with Rohan may prove costly for his mission.

"Why is it that we must destroy The Ring?", asked Hamann, as he could no longer hold his silence, and erupted in his speech. "As I see it, this is a unique oportunity for us to take such great power in our hands, in Gondor's hands, and use it for our benefit. We have been gifted with the oportunity to use The Enemy's weapon against him! Such great power stands before us, and you want it destroyed?! I say take The Ring to Gondor, and let us use it against he who wishes to destroy us all!".

Having finished his speech, Hamann found himself away from his seat and closer to Frodo, the ring bearer. Hamann looked deep into Frodo's eyes, and than turned back to sit down in his chair.

"A serpent in the hands of a good man is still poisonous, and it still bites." A voice from the tree branches above their heads spoke softly but in the quiet of the court, it startled all who were seated there save for Elrond alone. The elves jumped to their feet with hands on their bows while the dwarves fingered their axes. Hamman's hand went to his sword. Frodo looked up into the tree from whence the voice came and saw a figure cloaked in grey perched there.

For a moment not a word was spoken, but then the figure lept down like a cat from its high perch and landed silently upon the stone pedestal upon which the ring lay. It looked down, its face hidden in shadow, and stared at the ring. Frodo lept to his feat but Gandalf's wrinkled hand stayed him from rushing forward. The figure turned its shadowed face to gaze at Hamman and then to Frodo. Then to the surprise of all, it laughed a sweet and gentle laugh that sounded like water flowing over small stones, and it was not the voice of a man, but of a woman. She threw back her hood to reveal a fair face framed in flowing copper tresses. The sunlight sparkled in her eyes and there was no evil in her face.

"Do not fear, young friend," she said to Frodo. "I have no desire for such power."

She stepped lightly to the ground and turned to Hamman. "The ring in itself is a dangerous thing for it is not its master alone that makes it evil. It in itself is the very emobodiment of wickedness, treachery, and malcious power. Even the very wisesest who would take upon himself such a thing, would in the end be swayed by its evil and not by his own choice. That is why it cannot be spared from this fate that you have heard spoken here." Her face was serious and wisdom beyond her years was in the depths of her eyes.

Then she turned and bowed to Elrond,"Greetings Lord. The Lord and Lady of the Golden Wood have sent me hither to join thy council, if you will have me."

Elrond nodded saying nothing and gestured her to stand beside him. Taking her place at his side she faced the company wordlessly, but Frodo noticed that every now and then her gaze went to Strider who was seated quite near to her. But none could read what was in that gaze.

*Frodo sat with his hands at his side, unable to decide what he should do. This strange and lovely creature before him seemed like an elf and yet like something he had never seen before. When she had spoken to him, he felt an unsureness about him, not in an evil and dark way, but rather a mystery never to be understood. I should be glad to return to the Shire and be rid of all this wonder. My simple heart could never understand the strange ways of elves and men and dwarves. He glanced at Gandalf, and then at the ranger, Strider, who had helped the four hobbits to Rivendel. Then, without warning, he felt a chill like death creep into his wound. yes he thoughtit will be a joy beyond expression to go home and forsake the worries of great minds.

Elrond looked at Hamman who still stood in surprise by the interruption and the unnanounced speech of the stranger. "Ariana speaks with the wisdom of her mother. It is indeed true that the ring in itself is an embodiment of evil and cannot be use by any to do that which is good. It was made by Sauron and his alone. It has no other master. " And then to the company he said, "This, friends, is Lady Ariana of Lorien. She has been sent hither by the Lord and Lady of the Galhadrim to bring aid and council. There are few that are as wise as the elves whom she represents. Her adoptive parents have raised her well. Take heed to her council."

I welcome you Ariana, and your appearance was suprising and amusing. Are you always like this? - Asked a disapointed Hamann to Ariana, as he then turned to Elrond. - I may not have the long lives of the Elves, nor the wisdom of the wizards, but I sense in my heart that The Ring can still be of use at Gondor. Sadly, I presume that arguing over it will take us nowhere, so I shall leave you with your minds, and maybe later, at another ocasion, will I have a chance to pronouce myself again. - Hamann paused and kept his thoughts for some seconds, and then he said - For now, I shall do as this most honerable council decides. My weapons are at your service.

Hamann sat down and awaited for the others to continue with the debate.

Legolas observed everything and could not be quite anymore. He rose and spoke clearly.
- I comprehend that you Hamann much desire to use the Ring of Power. For our lands would be all safe if it was possible. But did you not hear anything Master Elrond and Lady Ariana said? The Ring must be destroyed. And the only way to do it is casting it back into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged by the Dark Lord.
He then glanced at his companions and saw much fear inside them.
- There is one of us who shall take the path to Mordor. But I do not think that you are supposed to do it, Bilbo.
The hobbit smiled and said no word. Then Legolas looked at Ariana and there was a great gleam in her eyes. "She has the beauty and the splendor I always expected in a woman" - he thought to himself. "But I ought not to think about such things right now; and her heart seems to have an owner already".

Ariana's thoughts were swirling in her head. Such great men were gathered here. Noble Lords from all the races that were enemies of Sauron. Her heart was warmed by the greeting of Legolas, but she felt something cold and not quite right about the man from Gondor. He desired to do good, she could feel that, but he also had a desire for power that could drive him to do things he and others might regret. Her gaze shifted to Aragorn. His face had remained exspressionless upon her arival. There was no sign of recognition or familiarity in his gaze. Did he not yet know? Arwen had promised to tell him. She had often seen this Ranger when he visited Lorien and in her travels she had seen him a far off, but she had bided her time. She knew that if he were to believe her identity, it would have to come from someone other than herself. Oh how she wished to know her brother! He was a great man and she would do much to see him upon his rightful throne with the love of his life, her dear friend, at his side. Did he know that she would die for him? Did he know, that they had the same blood flowing through their veins?

Gandalf sat in silence next to Frodo. In the quietness of his own thoughts he was busy thinking and discerning. He could see a glimpse of the thoughts which Legolas displayed, feel what Arianna was feeling, sense the tenseness with which Elrond sat; but most of all, overshadowing all these others, he could sense the growing fear, sadness, and determination which Frodo had begun to feel. Gandalf could only wait, and in the sadness of his heart he knew what Frodo had to do, though he wished that it could be otherwise - but Frodo's destiny was working.

As the company remained silent, Iaurcalion sat in deep thought. This quest would in deed be a dangerous one. Who would venture to take up such a burden? Hamann was more than willing to take up the ring but for the desire of using it for to regain the might of Gondor, but I know the power of the Ring and it can corrupt even the strongest of men. This man of Gondor did, however, have many strengths and weeknesses. His gaze fell to Aragorn, the man who would someday become king of Middle Earth, and wondered why Aragorn would shun this responsibility. He then noticed the small hobbit sitting next to Gandalf. Frodo was increasingly feeling the power of the Ring. And Iaurcalion could see this in his eyes.

Posting for Theoden.

His wound aching, Frodo wished that the burden on his heart could be lifted. If only someone would speak up and offer to take up this quest so that he would not have to. Oh for the joy of once again seeing his home without having to fear the eyes and ears of the enemy that were ever watching for the ring. He sighed and hung his head. It was of no use. Gandalf had said it himself. Bilbo had been meant to find the ring, and therefore perhaps he was meant to have it now. This was his burden. He could not ask anyone else to take it. Even if he were to leave it and return home now, what hope would there be that his home would be safe from the enemy. No, he knew in his heart what he must do ... He looked up and his eyes met, to his surprise, Ariana's. Her gaze was penetrating in way. It was almost asking him what he was going to do. It was not a pleasant feeling. But then, she smiled and her smile warmed his heart and made him feel just a little more sure of what he was going to do.

Hamann sat down in his chair, and observed the unfolding of the council with much curiosity and interest, despite not feeling very well. Ever since he had left Gondor, Hamann had been feeling a bit disturbed. A constant disturbing presence had been with him in his mind. He knew not what this presence was. He didn't know why he was feeling the way he was, because he assumed that heading to Rivendell would be heading to safer and less troubled lands, where he could ease his mind and find comfort, lands where the dark shadow was hardly noticed. Sadly, that was not what it seemed, as Hamann could sense that the dark shadow was spreading itself all over Middle-earth, bringing fear and doubt to all.

What is wrong with me? - thought Hamann to himself, as he remained in his chair and the council continued.

If one were to step out of the great Council and down a few stairs, not far from where the fate of ME was being debated upon, you might find yourself wanting to laugh at a peculiar site. A small creature was leaning under a very small ledge in a corner and was attempting to make no sound at all, although on occasion he would mutter something like, "Mr. Frodo shouldn't have to bother himself with such heavy matters as the end of the world. Why, doesn't Mr. Elrond know that my master almost died?! He needs his rest." And presently he would remember that he was dropping an eave and the thought of Gandalf and being turned in to something unnatural would scilence all verbal mumblings. This was Samwise Gamgee, the simple hobbit gardener and companion to Frodo Bagins while he was on his way to Rivendel. Now Sam was anxious to get back to the Shire because winter was coming on fast and Mr. Frodo's new garden needed to be tended to.

But something about his masters posture troubled him...was it perhaps Frodo had more on his mind than the Shire and the garden?

No one answered. The noon bell rang. STill no one spoke. Frodo glanced at all the faces, but they were not turned to him. All the Council sat with downcast eyes, as if in deep thought. A great dread fell on him, as if he was awaiting a pronouncement of some doom that he had long foreseen and vainly hoped might after all never be spoken. An overwhelming longing to rest and remain at Bilbo's side in Rivendell filled all his heart. At last with an effort he spoke, and wondered to hear his own words, as if some other will was using his small voice.

"I will take the Ring," he said, "though I do not know the way."

as Anamatars horse was riding away from the riders of rohan Eomer called out to him.

"You journey takes you past Isengard. Be wary there. I fear that Saruman has betrayed us." Anamatar nodded his head and his horse was off once more. It was ill news indeed that Saruman had betrayed the west. But Anamatar had a quest to do, but something told him that he would have more dealing with Saruman than the soldiers of Rohan.

A number of hours or minutes later (Anamatar has lost track) Anamatar saw a forest loom. Fangorn forest. A trechorous wood they were. But they were still the area he had to go to. Anamatar stopped and set up camp along the entwash. He had isengard to his west and fangorn to his north. He did not feel safe at all.

To pass the time between dusk and dawn Anamatar reminisced about times of old. Stories he had heard growing up in Dol Amroth of an island that was to the west of belfalas. Of great buildings and fertile lands, tall men with long swords. He thought of what his foster parents had told him. That a wonderful name I had been given. In the tongue of elves it meant the father of a long fate. Anamatars foster father had prophecied that anamatars sons, and their sons and theirs, would lead into battle with a long sword. To die on the battle field would be the fate of all the Osterels to come.

Anamatar thought of these things. Not a bad way to leave. Not bad at all. He thought as he closed his eyes.

Elrond, his heart heavy, turned to look at the young hobbit seated near to him. The rest of the company had also turned to look at him in absolute amazement, all save Gandalf and Ariana. Gandalf's eyes were sad but he smiled as he looked at Frodo. Ariana, her heart telling her that this was the right choice, nodded knowingly.

"This burden Frodo is not for any to lay upon another. I do not lay it upon you. But if you take it upon yourself freely than I believe your choice is right. My heart tells me that this path is appointed unto you and you alone, and if you do not find a way ... no one will."

Galdor looked up with amazement when the small voice of Frodo broke into his thoughts, he then turned to Elrond to listen to what he had to say. When Elrond finished he stood up, "Would you have him walk this path alone, with none there to guide him. Though he is valiant of heart, that will not guide him on the path he must take, nor will it protect him from the servants of Souron. I doubt even Glorfindel could do so great a task, and you would send Frodo to do it unaided? Nay, what chance will he have to make it to Mordor, much less all the way to Orodruin unaided? Surely you will send many to guide and protect him on his path?"

Sam was struck dumb for a moment at the sound of his master's voice. It sounded so weak and hopeless. The gardener tried to grasp what Mr. Frodo's declaration ment. Then, as Galdor spoke of a Journey and Mordor and that somehow it was all tied to his master, Sam knew where his path now took him.

"Not alone, Master! Surely you will not send him off alone."

"Nay, not alone Master Samwise." Elrond declared. "This mission is indeed dangerous and the ringbearer will have companions. You at least shall acompany Aragorn and your Master. It seems hardly possible to seperate you from him taking into account that he was invited to this secret council and you were not."

There was a twinkle in Ariana's eye. She had seen the young hobbit hidden in the bushes.

"The company must be carefully chosen. This road is long and dangerous and the aid and wisdom that will guide you must not be a light matter. I will ponder this. For now, let us adjourn and take the refreshment that has been prepared. "

Elrond left the court followed closely by Ariana who desired to council privately with him. Sam, Bilbo, and Frodo went to find Merry and Pippin so that they could discuss what had occurred in the council. The rest of the council departed to the great hall where food had been laid out for their refreshment.

Once they were alone, Ariana turned and embraced her elder companion.

'It is has been many years since I last set eyes upon you, child,' Elrond held her at arms length. 'It has been too long. But Arwen spoke truth. You have indeed grown into a beautiful woman.' He admired her where she stood her grey cloak thrown over her shoulders. Her long tresses hung down to her waist which was girdled with a belt of silver leaves upon which on a long sword. She stood tall in her leather boots that came up to her knees. A dark brown leather corset studded with silver hugged her waste and her her green sleeves were bound to her lower arm by silver bands. Over her back she had a bow and a quiver of arrows. She was indeed the very image of a warrior. But the mithril chain the hugged her throat and glittered with a green stone revealed that she still had the touch of a lady about her.

'My Lord,' she spoke as she turned away from him and gazed out the window towards the valley, 'He doesn't know yet. Why? Arwen promised'

Elrond knew that she was speaking of her half-brother, Aragorn. 'The man Aragorn has been wandering the lands far from here and it has not been until this present time that he has come again to this house. Arwen has barely had a moment's time to speak with him. But perhaps it was best.'

She looked at him confused. Elrond sighed. 'Child. Ariana, would I be right in presuming that you wish to be a member of the fellowship that journey's with the ringbearer?'

She nodded. 'Lady Galadriel forsaw that such a course would indeed be necessary. I begged leave to come hither that I might take part in this quest. I have often wondered what my purpose in the world was, and now, I believe that I found it. You do not forbid this course?'

'Nay, for it is not place to order you one way or the other. But I believe that your brother might feel differently if he knew that it was his sister that was risking her life to aid in this dangerous undertaking. For now, I believe that would be wise if he were to look upon you merely as a companion, rather than kin.'

'But when am I to reveal my true self to him,' Ariana had frustration her voice.

'I do not know. But what I do know,' he laid a comforting hand on her shoulder, 'is that you are wise beyond your years and that when the time is right, you will know. For some 80 years your brother has been ignorant of your existance. It can wait a little longer. Now, I have much to ponder upon. Go, join the company and refresh yourself. You have made a long journey and not even one who travels such as yourself cannot be without need of food and drink.' She bowed and departed leaving Elrond alone in his thoughts.

Hamann sat alone in the great hall, he was the only man from Gondor there and few were the people wanting to share their minds with him. Although Hamann's idea seemed as good as discarded, he still had fate that time would show him an even better oportunity to have people accept his suggestions.

I order to be sure that such oportunity would appear, Hamann had always have The Ring within his reach and sight, which meant he was to take part in such quest. He had no doubts that many nameless dangers would be appear and many well known dangers would also appear, but his quest was greater than anything that could ever happen to him, no danger would stop him.

Instants later, Hamann saw Ariana arriving in the hall. She lookd a bit worried and troubled, but her beauty was still uncanny. Hamann decided to have a word with her, he was curious about her, and he also wanted to be sure she carried no hard feelings because of Hamann's words during the council.

Galdor walked out of the court and found his way to the kitchen, walking in he got some meat from the cooks and then walked out to the garden. As soon as he entered the garden a beautiful Falcon flew down to his arm. After saying a few words to it and giving it the meat, he started walked towards the room where Elrond was pondering who he would send with Frodo. Reaching it about the same time Ariana left, he stood and watched her go, wondering to himself who this strange and beautiful maiden was, and why she was in such closeness to Elrond. Pushing those thoughts to the back of his head, Galdor walked to the door, knocked and entered when Elrond bade him to, "Master Elrond, I ask that I be sent with Frodo on his journey. He will doubtless run into much trouble on the way, and my fighting and healing skills may be of much service. Will you not allow me to accompany the ring bearer on his quest?"

As Hamman departed from her presence to find some more wine, Ariana slipped into the shadows of a column to observe all that was passing with the hall. The five hobbits were deep in discussion at a small round table that had been set for their use. Galdor was seated next to Aragorn and the two were in friendly discussion. Legolas, the fair prince from Mirkwood, was seated with his companion Iaurcalion but both appeared to be deep in thought. Ariana studied these two elves who were her distant kindred. One had the light of the sun in his hair and his eyes were like blue saphires. With piercing blue eyes the other sat gazing at a spot of sunlight upon the table. Both were fair of face and strong of stature. Ariana had sensed something of admiration when Legolas had spoken to her, but Iaurcalion ... he was harder to read. This thoughts were veiled and he kept his own council. There was almost a mysterious strength that she felt about him and the impression that he and his lord would be valuable companions on this quest weighed heavily on her mind.

As Iaucalion sat at the table with Legolas, he was so entrenched with his thoughts that the activity of the room melted away. What shall I do? She had once met this elven lord when she had traveled to Mirkwood 15 years ago, but they had spoken but briefly and she wondered if he would even recall their meeting.

Looking around she spotted him down the path beside a fountain of clear water overshaded by a tree with scarlet leaves. He appeared to be deep in thought and Ariana hesitated. But she gathered her courage and spoke.

'Greetings, Iaurcalion. It has been many years since we last spoke. How fare you?'

A wave of pain surged through Ariana's heart as she sensed anguish in Iaurcalion's. The Lady Galadriel had told her before she left that she had a gift for sensing the feelings of others. She could not yet see their minds as her mother could, but it was a way to of feeling a connection to them. She laid a comforting hand upon his shoulder and smiled.

'I know how you feel about young Frodo, but if anything I would say that it is now more than ever that we should be glad. Frodo was not forced into this fate. He chose to take it upon himself and that should be a sign to us that perhaps there is hope ahead for us all. You and I will go on this journey.' A bell tolled in the distance summoning all to return to the council. They turned to re-enter the house,'But a word of warning,' Ariana murmered quietly, 'be ever wary of your own heart. For the ring is a temptation to all and I feel in my heart that before this quest is over all who travel this road will face its temptation. The choices we make will determine our own fate. Frodo took his seat again amungst the nobles and ancient heros of Middle Earth and athough he now was being numbered with them, he could not feel at ease. When all had once again gathered in the court, Elrond addressed the council. 'I have pondered deeply upon this matter and I have come to a decision. The fellowship who sets out from here must be few, for their hope must be in speed and secrecy and not great numbers. The fellowship shall be composed of members of the great races of Middle Earth -elves, dwarves, and men. With the ringbearer, his faithful servant and Aragorn, the wizard Gandalf shall go. For this possibly will be his greatest and final task. Also, with the company will travel Legolas, Prince of Mirkwood, representing the elves of Mirkwood. Also, Galdor of the Grey Havens and Ariana of Loth Lorien shal be there companions. Gimli, Son of Gloin will travel as a representative of the dwarves and Hamman of Gondor will go at least as far as Gondor for this road lies towards his home. Who the other members shall be I have not yet decided. Perhaps there may be some members from my own household whom I will send.' He then turned to Iaurcalion and Glorfindel. "As for you my lords, I have a special erand for you. The road ahead will hold many dangers and many un forseen enemies. I wish that you would travel ahead of this company scouting out the lands. Posting as Merry and Pippin:

Suddenly a comotion was heard at the entrance to the court and two small hobbits came rushing into the room pursued by one of the elves who had been stationed as a guardian against interruption. Merry and Pippin had determined looks upon their faces as they stomped over to where Frodo and Sam were seated and then turning they glared at Lord Elrond. Merry was the first to speak.

"We heard tell that you was planning to send Mr. Frodo and Sam Gamgee off on this quest with only big people and elves and had the inclination to send us back to the Shire. Well, we won't hear of it. We don't care what you say we are going with Frodo. And there is nothing you can do to stop us." Elrond frowned but there was a twinkle of merriment in his eye as Pippin nodded his head vigorously in agreement.

"That's right," he affirmed, "Besides you need people of intelligance on this mission ... quest ... thing." He sucked in his gut and straightened his shoulders trying to assume an air of determination. "So you might as well say yes."

Gandalf stood chuckling behind them and he winked at Elrond who assumed a quite serious attitude. "Very well, Master Peregrin, you and your friend shall accompany the fellowship on this quest, although a dark road lies ahead of you. Perhaps they will find some use for you by the time the road is ended." Pippin grinned at first thinking he had won the argument, but then as the implications of what Elrond had just said, put a small scowl on his face until he saw Merry, Sam, and Frodo grinning at him.

The following morning when the sun was still hidden behind the hills, Ariana, Iaurcalion and Glorfindel met with Elrond upon the steps leading down the valley to the road that would take them out of Rivendell. He had come to give them one final word of advice.

" Be ever watchful.' He commanded. "The enemy has many spies in many forms. Even the birds that sing in the brush may be evil at heart. You are wise and know the road that would be best to follow. I would travel mostly by night and stick to the forest and the sheltered land where you are lest likely to be seen from the air. Be mindful of eachother. Ariana, return as soon as you may with news,' he said turning to the young woman where she stood hooded with her face hidden. She said nothing but only nodded in answer. "Iaurcalion and Glorfindel, do not underestimate your female companion, for though she has not your years or experience she is a valuable companion. Teach her and take lesson from her." The two Lords bowed and then turning then went silently down the steps and vanished like a whisper into the mists.

Five days later, Ariana returned to Rivendell. No one knew how she came or went, for she arrived as suddenly as she had departed. She came on foot bearing news that they had met with no enemies upon the road thus far and that news had reached them that a warrior from Gondor had been seen travelling towards the mountains. The birds did not know his errand there, but Glorfindel had travelled to meet him and learn the purpose of his errand while Iaurcalion had travelled some ways to the north to scout out the land there. He was to meet with the fellowship near the foothills below Carahadras so that he might council with them about which road they should take.

The elf appeared to be ready for battle. As the 2 horses met Anamatar halted the elf in white from dropping his sword upon Anamatar. "I am a man of Gondor! Do not slay me!"

The elf paused. "So you are the warrior out of Dol Amroth." He jumped off of his great horse and bowed low. "I am Glorfinel, out of the house of Elrond. I came in search of you." Anamatar sheathed his sword and spoke

"I am Anamatar Osterel of Dol Amroth indeed. Has news of my journey reached as far as Imladris? I am in grave danger if my coming has reached the ears of the dwellers of the mountains." Glorfindel mounted and the two rode off together, speaking of their own missions.

The day had finally arrived for the fellowship to depart from Rivendell. Winter was nipping at their faces and she had already begun to paint her masterpieces upon the window panes of the Last Homely House. Upon the large porch a company had gathered to give a final blessing to the Fellowship. The bare trees had surrendered their leaves to the cold and the wind was dancing among their bare branches. Down at the edge of the stairs the Fellowship was preparing to depart. Sam was holding the reins of his faithful pony Bill while Aragorn and Hamman proceded to load the final supplies on Bill's back. Frodo, Merry, and Pippin stood huddled together trying to keep warm even though they had been provided with thick and warm clothing from the elven house. Legolas was standing off to the side, his back straight against a tree, his eyes focused upon a star high in the heavens. The company was to leave and travel under the cover of dark. Warmly the lights of Elrond's house shown upon their path but they did not penetrate the fog that had arrisen down farther in the valley upon the path.

Gimli also stood quietly aside with his hand resting upon his axe haft. Elrond and Gandalf stood at the head of the company of elves deep in quiet discussion and Ariana was no where to be seen. Among the company were many fair and high elves and every now and then Sam caught himself staring at them with wonder in his eyes. His gaze especially focused upon the Lady Arwen who stood with her people. Her gown of twilight blue was set with silver stars and she looked like the night sky itself. Her face shown like the silven moon and the stars were lights in her eyes. Her dark hair hung lose over shoulders. Yet in such beauty, Sam caught a hint of sadness for her eyes were like windows into her sould. He wondered what thing upon that earth could pain such a fair and noble lady.

When all was finished Gandalf went down to join the Fellowship and Ariana emerged from the house and took a place near to Arwen. Elrond raised his arm and called the company to pay head.

*'This is my last word,' he said in a low voice. 'The Ring-bearer is setting out on the quest of Mount Doom. On him alone is any charge laid; neither to cast away the Ring, nor to deliver it to any servant of the Enemy nor indeed to let any handle it, save members of the Company and the Council, and only then in gravest need. The others go with him as free companions, to help him on his way. You may tarry, or come back, or turn aside into other paths, as chance allows. The further you go, the less easy it will be to withdraw; yet no oath or bond is laid on you to go further than you will. For you do not yet know the strength of your hearts, and you cannot foresee what each may meet upon the road.'
'Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens,' said Gimli.

'Maybe,' said Elrond, 'but let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen nighfall.'

'Yet sworn word may strengthen quaking heart,' said Gimli.

'Or break it,' said Elrond, 'Look not too far ahead! But go now with good hearts! Farewell, and may the blessing of Elves and Men and all Free Folk go with you. May the stars shine upon your faces!'*

The company followed Aragorn down the path with Legolas bringing up the rear. Ariana turned to her friend, Arwen, and gave her a warm embrace. She would have departed then, but Arwen caught her hand and stayed her. Ariana turned back in hesitation, but when she caught the look in her friend's eye she understood.

"Do not worry, beloved," she whispered as they gazed into eachother's eyes, I would sooner give up my own body to death than see my brother harmed. I will be wary. Do not fear for him. He will return to thee." She kissed Arwen lightly on the cheek and then swept swiftly down the stairs and vanished into the mists.

Hamann, just a few minutes after the Fellowship and him had departed on the journey, stopped and said "Wait, there is one thing I must do before I go further". The fellowship looked at him as he took his war-horn in hands and said, "Loud and clear it sounds in the valleys of the hills and then let all the foes of Gondor flee!" Putting the war-horn to his lips, Hamann blew a mighty blast, and the echos leapt from rock to rock and filled the air around all of them, to at last reach all the ears of Rivendell.

Some of the Fellowship looked at Hamann with surprise, others with dismay. Hamann, as if trying to justify himself, said out loud "I always have let my horn cry at setting forth, and though thereafter we may walk in shadows, I will not go forth as a theif in the night".

And so they all continued on their journey.

As the sound of Hamman's horn became nothing more than an echo in the valley, the deep notes still rung in Frodo's heart. They were powerful and strong and they filled him with a courage he had not felt before. For the first time in a long time, Frodo smiled.

Gandalf had been oddly troubled and thoughtful during the preparations for the departure. He spent most of his time sitting in the Hall of Fire thinking and planning in solitude or with Aragorn. This was his most important mission, and he needed his strength.

*******************************

Even today Gandalf was feeling his burden, yet he tried to carry it with a light heart. With Hamman's horn blast he felt his heart lift, and he turned and walked up to Aragorn, and after a minute, Aragorn stepped back and Gandalf led the company in silence away from the Last Homely House.

Iaurcalion stood upon the crest of the hill under the starlit sky. The gentle breezes tugged at his hair and calmed his spirits. But not all that the wind brought to him was good, for not long after he had arrived there the scent of wargs reached his nostrils and soon their harsh cries filled his ears. Just then the wind changed and the sounds of the wargs grew louder. They had picked up his scent and were now on his trail. He fell to the ground and put his ear to the earth to listen. A pack of twenty heavy footed beasts were swiftly approaching him from the south and they soon would be upon him. A dozen thoughts went racing through his head, but he had already decided on what he must do.

Iaurcalion sat crouched ready with his bow and arrow ready for the first attack. Just then five wargs jumped out of the bushes. He knew that the bow would not be an effective weapon so he shot the lead warg, and then reached for his sword, Celeb Naur which is Silver Fire, as the other four charged him. It's silver blade glowed white as it fell them with ease, but as their dead bodies struck the ground eight more surrounded him with teeth bared. Three of the eight charged him. A great, grey beast, it's yellow eyes glowing, lept at Iaurcalion's throat as three others attack from behind. He ducked to the ground and the beast flew over his head, and then spinning round he swept the heads of the other three from their necks in a single stroke. The grey one returned with fresh fury. Iaurcalion lept to the left but not quickly enough for the warg caught his sword arm with his snarling teeth ripping the flesh from the elf's arm. But he payed dearly for it. Soon nine dead wargs lay in a heep at Iaurcalion's feet and the rest of the pack fled in fear of his wrath. He knew that they would soon return however and sought the safety of a tree in which he would wait out the night. There he sat as the moonlight played among the leaves painting shadows upon his face. The blood from his wound had stained his sleave, but he bound it with a soft scarf from his satchel. He then took his rest finding peace in the wind that once again was tugging at his hair.

The company had been travelling for a little more than a week, journeying under the cover of darkness and resting by day. It seemed to the hobbits that time dragged on as they never seemed to come any closer to the snowy mountains that lay ahead of them. Gimli the dwarf had taken a liking to the hobbits and often strode beside them in conversation. Aragorn was never far from Gandalf's side as the two councilled together, and Hamman walked behind with Merry and Pippin. Legolas being the swiftest and sharpest of the fellowship often went ahead and came back to bring news or took up the rear with Ariana at his side so that they would hear anything that might be following them long before it reached the fellowship.

Upon the nineth day of their journey, Ariana departed in the middle of the night saying no word but leaving as silently as a breath of wind through the trees. None save Legolas saw her go, but they all knew that she had gone ahead to seek out the elven lords who had preceeded them.

Swiftly Ariana journeyed south ahead of the company in search of their companions. Her heart was troubled for she could find no sign of either Iaurcalion or Glorfindel. The hooves of Asfoloth left few marks upon the springy turf for the elven horse traveled as lightly as the rider upon its back. Once in a while her keen eyes picked up the horse's faint trail and it seemed that it was headed towards the gap of Rohan. Soon however, her worry turned to dread as she found a trail left by a pack of wolves that was headed towards Caradhras and they seemed to be tracking something or someoneWas it possible that they might have followed the scent of Iaucalion. Had the two elves parted ways? One scouting towards Rohan while the other went along the mountains? She followed the warg trail until in the late evening she came upon a clearing at the crest of a hill. There she found signs of battle and the footprints of many wargs mingled with blood in the grass. The plain foot prints of man or elf were also there and they had fought, but she knew not who the victor had been for neither the bodies of wargs or elf did she find. She hoped that that the outcome had been good. But if Iaurcalion had survived the attack she wondered where he might be. After a careful search, she found traces of blood upon the branches of a small laurel bush at the base of the hill. The blood was not black or foul smelling, so she knew that it came not from a warg. Not far away she saw a grove of tall trees and into them she hastened.

Iaurcalion had been ever watchful since the first attack, but he had noticed nothing save the wind. He had been in the tree for a day and one night. Though that evening he noticed someone come out into the clearing and survey the scene of the battle, and then procede to the grove of trees that he had been resting in. From the moment the figure appeared on the crest he knew it was Ariana. As she came into the grove, he dropped from a limb ten feet from the ground and landed with a soft thud.

Ariana saw Iaurcalion just as he lept from his perch in the tree and land on the ground twenty feet in front of her. She forced herself not to let out a sigh of relief. She had been very worried for her companion even though she knew he had had several thousand years to learn how to take care of himself. Striding towards him she bowed in the fashion of the warriors of her people and then she noticed his crudely bandaged arm.

"Iaurcalion, at last I have found you. When I came upon the tracks of the hunting pack I feared that you were in danger. Although you seemed to have come out the victor in your encounter. It seems however," she said a she touched the bandage on his arm, "that you did not come away from your encounter unscathed. "

When the company woke on the tenth morning since they had left rivendell, they found that Ariana had left some time during the night. Galdor, being a little upset that Ariana would leave during the night without any notice sent his falcon, Sureatsa to keep a eye on her. As soon as all had eaten, they broke camp and continued toward caradhras.

Sureatsa soon caught up with Ariana and followed her, flying unnoticed high overhead. When Ariana reached the place where Iaurcalion had fought with the hutting pack, Sureatsa circled over head until Ariana found Iaurcalion. when she saw Iaurcalion's wounded arm, she flew down and landed on Ariana arm, to see whether the wound was such that Iaurcalion would need to be carried back to the others immediately.

Ariana turned in surprise as the bird alighted upon her arm and gazed into her face with inquistive golden eyes.

"Well, it appears that I am not the only one concerned for your well being, Iaurcalion," Ariana smiled at the elf.

"It is nothing. Just a scratch that should heal quickly." He brushed her off casually.

Sureatsa clicked her beak at him sharply and let out a series of quiet throaty noises in Ariana's ear. The maiden nodded in agreement much to Iaurcalion's surprise. He was even more startled when Ariana made a noise that sounded like nothing he had ever heard before. It was like the whispering of the wind and rushing of the mountain stream and falling of soft rain upon the heather all at once. Apparently it was a language that only Sureatsa understood. The falcon lept from Ariana's arm into a low over hanging branch near by.

"I think that I should tend to your wound, my friend. Not only is the bite of a Warg visious and painful it can often be poisonous." Ariana took Iaurcalion's hand and pulled his arm gently towards her. They slid quietly to their knees in the soft moss under the trees and Ariana took a small pouch from her belt. From inside a gentle frangrance wafted under their noses and even the sent of it brought life into their very being. Ariana gently removed the blood sodden scarf from her friend's arm and examined the ugly gash. The skin was turning a frightening shade of black and dirt and blood were encrusted upon the face of the wound. Sureatsa clicked her beak again and Ariana gave Iaurcalion a repremanding look as if to say, "Just a scratch?". But she held her tongue and carefully washed the filth away. Then she removed a large star shaped, silver leaf from the pouch and pressed it to the wound. Out of her pack she removed a soft strip of white leather and bound his arm, and leaning down she made another sound like that she had made to the bird. Instantly Iaurcalion felt relief to the throbbing he had been feeling there.

Ariana smiled up at Sureatsa and made a call, which, upon hearing, the falcon nodded and then soared upwards into the sky back towards the north to rejoin the company.

"What did you tell her," Iaurcalion asked as the stood.

"I sent to her to inform the company that I have found you and that you had a battle with wargs. She is going to circle this area for a short time and then return to her master to warn them of the warg pack. I am not sure what we should now do."

She frowned and shook her head. "The company is in better condition than you were moments ago. But that is of no matter. Healing is a gift that I have been blessed with. The company is some 4 days march from here and if I am right, they will head for Caradhras and it is there we should meet them. Gandalf believes the pass to be our safest route." Ariana put away her supplies and laid it at the foot of a tree. "I suppose we should make camp here in the forest. It may be the safest place and we should not journey until darkness has fallen. If only it might rain." She gazed at the puffy white clouds over head.

Iaurcalion nodded his head in agreement. "I do so love the rain. It refreshes the earth and the trees so very much, and brings back the freshness of life. Another good thing it will do is wash away my sent from the rest of those wargs." He then laid down in the grass to feel the warmth of the sun.

Ariana, flinging her grey cloak about her slipped down into the tall grass nearby and if any bird were to fly over head, he would not have seen the two companions were they lay upon the face of the earth finding pleasure in the song of the birds and the dance of the breeze as they waited for night to fall.

Night fell, and the company was aroused from their sleep by Aragorn. After cleaning up camp and erasing all traces of their being there, Gandalf led the company away and to the South-east. The company was in better spirits today than they had been of late, for the air seemed more crisp and nothing evil seemed to be about. But something on the edge of the wizard's mind led him to believe that things were not as they seemed... but he let the thought rest and rejoiced in the good-will throughout the company. He straightened his bent and burdened back and looked up towards the distant peaks of the Misty Mountains towards Carahdras, the unforgiving.

"Are you sure that you deem the mountain pass to be our best route?" Aragorn's voice broke through Gandalf's thoughts.

Gandalf looked over at the man. "I do."

"But you know of the mountain's reputation? I do not think that it will let us pass, and the results could be desperate. There is...."

"No!" Gandalf spoke quickly. "Let us not speak of that - at least not yet. There is no need. We must try the mountain pass before any other - it is our only choice."

Aragorn nodded and remained silent, and Gandalf, for his part, was relieved, for Aragorn had been bringing this up more often as of late, and the wizard's thoughts became clouded over when thinking of it. "Come!" He said over his shoulder to the rest of the company. "Let us begin!" The company passed out of that place as silently as they had come, hidden under the cloak of darkness.

Legolas seemed to be a little worried about Caradhras as well. He knew that for him it would not be difficult, but he also knew of the weakness of the others in the fellowship. He for a moment thought that they were very strong people, but then he realised they could not be strong enough when Caradhras were before them. He looked at the sky, and the night was dark and cold. When the fast wind passed by him, he had a bad feeling. "Where may be Ariana and Iaurcalion?" - he thought.

Caradhras... Hamann did not like to listen or think about going to and through Caradhras. Not only was the path to Caradhras extremly dangerous, but it also seemes to be an unecessary path to follow. Hamann believed they should go south bordering the Misty Mountains, then to the fields of Rohan and at last to Gondor. He even had mentioned it to the group in some ocasions, but Gandalf always dismissed the idea.

As a matter of fact, Hamann had the impression that Gandalf always had more thoughts in his mind than he allowed others to know. Hamann wasn't very found of that, but he trusted Gandalf's wisdom. And perhaps it was even best that some things went unspoken, for the less the hobbits knew about the true dangers of such quest, the less difficult it would be to convince them to go on.

As the company near Caradhras, Sureatsa returned, and landed on Galdor's arm. Galdor stood looking at her quietly for a while as if listening, and after a short while he looked up and said, "Sureatsa found both Ariana and Iaurcalion, Iaurcalion was minorly wounded on the arm, it seems that there is a fairly large hunting pack of wargs in this area. Indeed Sureatsa tells me that we are only a few hours from where Iaurcalion fought with the wargs, I suggest that we be wary from this point on." A that the company continued on towards Caradhras, Galdor and Legolas moved a little in front of the rest to keep an eye out for wargs.

"Minorly wounded?" - thought Legolas."I feel deep in my heart that this is not a very true report". The elf was very watchful, and Galdor was beside him, observing everything. But he could not see what Legolas was seeing now. Far ahead from them, he viewed, in the darkness of the night, some movements. "Orcs!" - he whispered to Galdor. He then went back to his companions and warned them about the group of orcs walking towards them. They quickly and silently made a circle to protect themselves. In the middle were the hobbits, and around them, stood Legolas and the others, with their weapons set. The fair eyes of the elf were looking at every little movement. He was firmly holding his bow with two arrows set up.

"Orcs", Hamann said that one word with a mix of anger and concern. He knew the hobbits were nowhere near warriors, and so he prepared himself to fight for the hobbits and for himself.

"Merry, Pippin, stay close to me and everything will be fine". The two worried hobbits followed Hamann's instruction without hesitating...

After a few days of riding Glorfindel and Anamatar came to the Misty Mountains.

"Here I must leave," Glorfindel told anamatar. "I must find the fellowship yet again and guide them."
"Fare ye well, noblest of Elves, prince of old!" Anamatar called out. As Glorfindel sped away Anamatars steed trotted north along the mountains. He drew his sword. He had heard wolves growling in this area. Most likely wargs. He hoped that the fellowship of this dire mission would have their weapons ready.

With hoarse screams and wild yells of delight a battlion of orcs swept down upon the fellowship, blades drawn. The first flank fell before it was within fifteen of the company as a white blaze of light flashed from Gandalf's staff. At first the rest were cowed and hesitated to come nearer but their hesitation lasted only a moment and soon they were once again flying towards the company. From the left the blades of Galdor sang past their ears and sank deep into the throats of the oncoming orcs while the arrow of Legolas found their mark. Hamman and Aragorn charged with fury and soon many orcs lay dead at their feet but more were coming and those who got past the men soon found a challenge in the four hobbits who also had drawn their own small blades.

"Orcs," Ariana lept to her feet and balanced lightly on the limb upon which she had been rested. "They must have found the company!" She looked over to Iaurcalion who was listening. They both heard the sounds of orc cries along with the sounds of shouts of men and hobbits. A white flash blazed to their left and they new that Gandalf was weilding his power. "We must aid them,"murmered Iaurcalion and without another word lept softly to the ground and broke into a swift run. He had been running about a mile when he noticed that Ariana was not behind him. He halted and called softly,"Ariana, where are you?" Then to his surprise he saw her shadow in the trees above him. She was make her way swiftly, like a squirrel, along the trees above him. He laughed and continued towards the sounds of battle. At the outskirts of the glen where the fellowship was in fierce combat, Iaurcalion paused and lept upward to Ariana's side. He placed his mouth close to her ear and whispered,"There are more orcs sneaking around to the left. I will go that way and see what my bow can do. You take the right flank." She nodded mutely and did as he said.

As soon as Galdor had used up his throwing knives, he drew his two daggers and fell upon the orcs. The orcs fell back before his onslaught, only to feel the steel and arrows of the rest of the company. Soon almost all the orcs had ether fled or laid dead upon the grass. The few that remained were fighting with Hamann and the hobbits. Suddenly Sureatsa, who had kept out of the fight for the most part, let out a cry and flew down towards Galdor, sifting to her great size. Spinning quickly Galdor saw a large company of orcs sneaking through the woods towards him. Sheathing his daggers, and drawing his sword, he let out a cry and charged the orcs with Sureatsa. At first the orcs fell before the their attack, but more kept coming, Galdor could now see that just as many had attacked their right flank. Galdor and Sureatsa were slowly being pushed back, when suddenly Iaurcalion fell upon the rear of the orcs. Taking advantage of the orcs temporary confusion, Galdor and Sureatsa pushed forwards once again, Aicanáro now burned with a bright flame, and Sureatsa pushed through their ranks, throwing the orcs aside with her powerful claws, and striking fiercely with her beak. Even as Galdor and Sureatsa pushed from the front, Iaurcalion pushed ever hard on the rear of the orcs, catching them between the hammer and the anvil.

Ariana was almost tempted to stay out of the fight, so impressed was she by the skills in battle of her companions. Just then a large orc drew his sword upon Sam who was busy protecting the frightened pony. Quicker than sight an silver tipped arrow found its mark and dropped the ugly brute to the ground while three others sang as they sliced through the air and droped more of the foes. Finally, after a great deal of fighting, the orcs were all destroyed save for a few who had taken flight through the forest. Sureatsa quickly found and finished these. The carcasses of many orcs lay scattered around the glade the foul stench clouding the air that the company breathed. They quickly left the scene and headed for a high hill of boulders that lay at the foot of Caradhras. Few had suffered injuries and these were but slight. It had been the first of many battles, at this one at least had proved victorious. As the silven moon began to set upon the horizon, it seemed he smiled upon them and the twinkling stars shone as lights of hope in the dark sky. For now, they could rest in peace.

As soon as the small battle was over, Hamann looked around and saw Merry and Pippin on the ground leaning against a nearby stone. He walked to them and said "Did you see my little friends? As long as you are with us, you are safe. Here, drink some water, those Orcs will not bother us anymore. Let me know if you need anything". The two little hobbits were still scared, and Hamann thought it was best if they had some momments to recompose themselves.

After talking to the hobbits, Hamann walked to one of the orcs who was on the ground and examined its body. Judging from what he had seen, Hamann concluded that Orc, along with all the others, was from the Misty Mountains and its caves. Just a few decades had passed after the battle of the 5 armies, but the Orcs had already multiplied themselves into greater numbers.

Hamann approached Gandalf and Aragorn, and whispered about the Orcs to their ears...

"Garn! Weve been left behind! Id kill for a chance at one of them purdy elves necks.""
"Id kill for a chance at your ugly mug!" replied the other orc. Anamatar heard them arguing amongst themselves for many minutes untill he found their location. They both had swords but they were in their scabbards. Anamatar leaped from the trees and hewed the head of one orc and stabbed the other through the chest. So the fellowship Glorfindel had told them was true.

Frodo stood in a state of shock for a moment. He could hardly believe that in so short a time, they had been attacked and had vanquished their enemies. A score of orc bodies lie about their feet, the hideous faces now lifeless, were seemingly glaring at him. Sting was in his hand, the blade now glowing a pale shade of blue, where moments before it could have been a torch. He put it back in it's sheath and his hand went to the chain where his burden had been attached, and for a split second, that little hobbit heart stopped. The Ring was gone. Panic seized him and a franticly felt inside his shirt for it. He could only feel the soft Mithril coat that Bilbo had given him. Then his hand felt something cold... icy cold and yet hot in the same breath and he sighed in relief. It liked to do that, as though just being evil wasn't enough. Frodo withdrew his trembling hand and went to find the others..

With a gentle hand, Samwise Gamgee calmed the poor pony down. It was not difficult for the hobit to do. Bill and he seemed to be made for each other. Both were simple and each loved his master in a special and loyal way. Sam was petting Bill's head, when the thought of Mr. Frodo lept into his thoughts and he looked into the faces of his companions for the first time since the battle with the orcs. He could not see Frodo.
"Mr. Frodo! Frodo, Mr. Frodo!" He cried out.
"I am hear, Sam."
Frodo was standing on the other side of the Pony, his head against the soft fur.
"You scared me, Mr. Frodo. Bill got frightened when those Orcs jumped us n' I thought I should keep 'um quiet. I should have come to you though. I am empty headed." Sam walked around Bill and stood beside Frodo.
"No, Sam, you did what was right. It seems someone was watching out for you here." Frodo motioned toward the large orc that lay on its stomach, a silver arrow piercing it's head.
"Oh, that brute would 'ave eaten bill 'an me for sure."
"I don't know if Orc's eat hobbits or ponies." Frodo said wearily.
"Per'aps not, but I would not start at it if they did. I s'pose we could ask Master Gandalf if they did."
"I suppose we could."
Sam noticed that Frodo was not really having a conversation at all, bbut that his thoughts were far away.

Ariana sighed inwardly as she listened to Frodo and Sam from the branch above their heads. They really had no idea what dangers lay ahead of them. If Sam only knew he would never dared to bring his beloved pony even this far upon the journey. Bill was still shaking nervously and even Sam's soothing words were not enough to calm him. Quietly Ariana sang a verse of the wind that floated down and reached the pony's trembling ears. Instantly they perked up as if listening and then all at once the Pony was its old self again, much to the delight of Sam.

"There, there, Bill. You're gonna be ok. See, Mr. Frodo, Bill's gonna be ok." Joy could be heard in his loving voice, and Frodo was glad for Sam's sake. He happened to glance up, and for an instant, he thought he saw something, or someone, in the tree branches over them. Suprisingly, this did not shock Frodo, nor did it frighten him. Rather he felt a sense of awe... Like something mystical was watching him. Perhaps it was just his imagination. He pulled sting from it's sheath and the blade was dull. It is not an orc, and I will not worry about it. thought he. Where was Gandalf and Aragorn? Perhaps he shoudl speak with them.

"Mr. Frodo, Do you think it would be wrong to take this for my own?" Sam had left Bill's side when he was confident that the pony was completely calm.
"What, Sam?" Frodo looked over at his friend.
"Well, this arrow, sir. I mean, you don't think it would offend the owner if I took just this one." Sam had a childish look of concern on his face.
"Why no Sam. The Lady Ariana carries arrows much like this one. In fact, she might have been the one who saved you." Frodo mused.
"Well, if it were hers, then I should much rather like to ask if I could take it. I'm not much into stealing." He spoke hastill.
"The Lady is not amung us. She and Iaurcalion were not with us when the Orcs attacked." Frodo paused, a sudden feeling of correction come over him, as though perhaps he spoke before he new the full truth.
"Who is Iaurcalion, Mr. Frodo?" Sam questioned.
"An elf. I believe he acts as a type of scout for the fellowship."
"Is he a part of the fellowship?"
"I don;t know, Sam." Frodo said with a weary tone in his voice.
Sam paused, and his gaze went back to the dainty arrow that was embeaded in the head of a massive orc.
"We'll be moving on soon, an' it'll be left to rot in that brut's scull. It isn't right." Sam agonized.
"Sam, it is just an arrow."
"Well, better leave it than take it without her permission." Sam concluded.
"So be it."
"Come on Bill. We should fine you some grass that isn't dirtied with orc blood."
"You will not take it then?" Frodo seemed suprised.
"Not without the Ladies say so, if it is even hers."
Sam began to lead Bill away.

Iaurcalion had not been totally absent from the fight with the orcs though. He had climbed a tree and had shot down many orcs. before they could come upon the Fellowship. He then went up with the Fellowship to the foot hills of Caradhras. He sat there on a boulder keeping watch and listening to the conversations going on around him. He heard Aragorn, Gandalf, and Hamann talking about which course would be the best to take. He also heard Sam and Frodo talking. Iaurcalion was amazed at the resilience of the Hobbits. They had just been through a minor battle and were already laughing. This amazed Iaurcalion. Never had he heard of such creatures. He was very impressed with them.

Ariana wanted to laugh. Such a simple thing to take the arrow from the orc's carcass, and yet the noble hobbit refused thinking it might bring offense to its owner. She slipped back to the clearing and in even in the dark she found her four arrows as well as the arrows that Iaurcalion had left behind. Who knew when they might find a place to refill their quivers. She cleaned them and placed them in her quiver save for the one that had felled the orc that had been Sam's assailant. This she kept aside and when she regained the company she slipped it quietly in amongst Sam's baggage that was on the pony's back where she knew he would find it. Ariana did not mind sparing one arrow to the humble fellow.

"The Orcs are already so many!" Gandalf heard Hamman's voice in his ear. He looked up at the tall warrior of Gondor, strong and sure, and nodded. Aragorn remained grim and silent.

"Yes, indeed, they have multiplied, and I'm afraid this will be only the first of many battles that we will have to fight, for good or for ill. I am simply glad that we got off so easily! It is a good thing to have a Man of Gondor with us!"

Hamman bowed slightly at Gandalf's praise, "And you, Gandalf, where would we be without you?"

Gandalf shook his head, "I do not know, but it may be the will of fate for you to find the answer to your question before the end. Now, as for the orcs... I believe we should go on again or risk another attack for where there are orcs so far from the mountains, there also will the Warg be. Come! We must make it at least another league tonight, and then tomorrow night we must make it to the slopes of the mountain."

Aragorn aroused the rest of the company and together they made their way ever further from the scene of the battle. The Hobbits were sore and tired, for they were not used to fighting nor to the frights of the night. They, however, got their wish of an early dinner and an early bed, for Gandalf ordered camp after only an hours march. The sun had not yet risen when the company retired.

The night passed swiftly for everyone except Gandalf and Aragorn, who stayed up long into the night debating about Carahdras. By evening it was clear that a decision had been made - the Mountain Pass would still be followed. After a hurried meal and no fire the Fellowship set out again, thankfully rested and ready for another long trek.

"We must make it to the Mountain by morning," Gandalf told them, and they set off slowly plodding after the bent wizard and the tall Ranger towards the Misty Mountains.

By mid afternoon the fellowship were already making a steady climb up the face of the mountain. Before long they began to meet snowy patches in their path and then soon they were walking entirely upon the cold snow. By the time night had fallen the had come to a steep cliff against which they set up camp for the night. Gandalf allowed a small fire to be built so that they could all have the benefit of a hot meal. They cleared away the snow and using the dry wood they had brought from the woods below, they soon had a cheary fire crackling and the hobbits warmed their aching feet at the blaze.

Night passed, but at the dawn no sun shown down upon them to warm their faces for a heavy bank of clouds had covered the sky. As they climbed it seemed that the wind grew stronger and the temperature dropped rappidly. Snow began to fall. Once in a while rocks tumbled down from the mounain over head. They trooped as close to the face of the cliff as they could, but it offered very little shelter.

The four hobbits stumbled along, the snow blinding their eyes and covering the path in front of them. Gandalf followed by Aragorn and Hamman led the way pushing a way through the snow with the hobbits and the pony followed by the dwarf close behind. Legolas, Ariana, Glorfindel, and Iaurcalion walked behind but the snow was very little hindrence to them for they treaded lightly upon its surface and their feet did not sink into the snowy carpet. They listened intently for the falling rocks hoping to warn the fellowship before the rocks smashed down upon their path. Ariana, who had fallen into the rear, suddenly stopped and fell to her knees her hands covering her ears as if she were in pain.

After Ariana fell to the ground, the elven companions knelt around her, and soon the rest of the company. "What is wrong, Ariana?" asked Iaurcalion with a very concerned tone.

With a cry to the others to stop Galdor knelt quickly by Ariana's side. "Ariana, what is wrong?"
The other's drew their weapons and looked around warily, for even the slightest sign of something unusual.

She rocked back and forth her hands clasped tight to her ears. Finally she gasped out,"Voices, terrible, horrible voices. The wind moans and cries with them. They are terrible. They speak of death and detruction. They fill my heart and my mind with terror. Oh, if only they would stop!" She fell silent for another moment. Her companions looked at her helplessly, all save for Gandalf who was standing still listening. "She is right. Fell voices are crying in the wind, but I cannot understand them." Just then a flurry of stones tumbled down nearby and nearly hit Gimli upon his helm. "Can Ariana understand what they are saying?" Gandalf turned to Iaurcalion.

Iaurcalion gazed down at the maiden in the snow. She was writhing as if in pain but he knew not why. Then a memory came unbidden of the tongue she had spoken to Galdor's falcon. It had been the sound of the wind and the rain, but it was a language. Of that he was certain. He hestitated and then almost shouted to be heard, "I believe she can!" He reached over and tilted Ariana's chin so that they could see into eachother's eyes. "Ariana," he called to her, "What are they saying? Is it a warning?"

With white face and wide eyes Ariana forced herself to take her hands from her ears. She concentrated for a moment and then clapping her hands back again she nodded. In almost a whisper that only the elves there could hear she said, "It hates us. It wants us to leave. If we do not ... It will destroy us. It hates us." She repeated. "We must get away. It will stop us if we do not go. We must go." Then suddenly in frustration she lept to her feet startling her companions and let out a sound that sent chills down their already cold spines. It was like the wind screaming through the mountains. It was like a flood rushing towards them. It was like the rain pounding and pounding upon a stone floor. It was cry of anger and pain and threat. Almost at once the wind fell silent. It did not remain silent for long, but when it began again the voices that were there were softer and murmering as if they were waiting to see what would happen next.

"We must leave the mountain. Soon." Ariana's voice was urgent as she gazed upwards to wear the Red Horn disappeared into the clouds. "It does not want us here and it is not patient."

"What doesn't want us here?" Sam asked curiously. "What was it that was botherin you, Lady?"

"The Mountain," came Gimili's voice. "The mountain itself wishes us to be gone. It has an evil heart and it has often been told in the stories of my people that Caradhras was often called the cruel and could allow or prevent the passage of the its high peaks. Is that who it was that was offending you, Lady?"

Ariana was pale but stood tall as she nodded. Her frustrated outburst had calmed her to a certain extent. "The mountain warns us that it will find means of hindering or destroying us if we do not do as it wishes."

"What did she say to it?" came Pippin's small voice where he stood by the pony with his teeth chattering. Merry shrugged his trembling shoulders.

Ariana's sharp ears heard them. "I screamed at it in its own tongue. Although I am ashamed to say that what I spoke was not very pretty. I would not repeat those words in your tongue. It was enough though for the cruel thing to understand."

"Will you listen to me now my friends, when I say we should borderline the mountains and head south towards Rohan, and from there to Gondor? Not even the wind wants us here".

Hamann spoke loudly, expecting to get some answers from the fellowship.

At the sound of Hamman's deep voice, Frodo started. The thought of turning back and forsaking this acursed mountain seemed to bring a moment of warmth to his freezing limbs. Until now, he had never thought it possible for a hobbit to have cold feet, but the mountain had proven him wrong. He could sense that there was a great tension between Hamman, Gandalf and Strider. He did not care where they went as long as they got off the death trap the were standing on.

Sam was clinging to Aragorn, one arm tightly around his neck, the other clutching Bill's leadrope. His lips had long ago turned a pale shade of blue and he could not stop his teath from chattering. Unlike the humans, the elves and Gandalf (Sam couldn't see Gimli and therefore forgot about him for the time being), the hobbits were too small to wade through the snow and were thus abliged to be carried by Hamman and Strider. If I could just get my limbs moving Sam thought, My blood would get warm again. He glanced at Mr. Frodo who was clinging to Aragorn with all his strength, and Sam felt a pang of guilt go to his heart. But there was really nothing he could do for Frodo now, so he detirmined that sometime he would do something extra special for his master to make up for this time.
Sam shivered again.

Gandalf plowed through the thick snow. He used his staff to dig into it. His long grey beard was white with snow. He looked back at the others. Only Legolas seemed not to toil. The elf looked up at the skies and had few words with Gandalf.

"We must turn back! If your words be true, Ariana, then we must leave soon!" Gandalf waited for the others replies. They all wanted to agree but were not sure what the next step was.

Galdor walked over to Aragorn, said a few words to him and then took Frodo from him, turning to the rest he said,
"I agree, just look at Frodo here, frostbite is aready setting in on his fingers. The hobbits will die if we stay out here much longer."

As the others remained silent unsure of what to do should they turn back, Ariana gazed upwards into the oncoming snow and listened to the murmering of the wind which was growing steadily lowder. She shouted to be heard, "Don't you understand! We have no choice. We must get off the mountain or it will destroy us. Regardless of the options that lay before us this much is clear, we must leave and now!Or if we cannot leave at once we must at least not go further" Iaurcalion nodded as did the rest of the big people. Slowly they turned around but the snow was so thick that behind them that they could go no where. The face of the cliff soared outwards at an angle and formed a little hollow in its face. "We cannot turn back tonight," Glorfindel shouted. "We will need rest and nurishment and in the morning perhaps this snow will not be so blinding. Let us make camp here." The company agreed and they all forced back the snow and entered into the hollow to have shelter for the night. Gandalf lit a fire and the tall people stood around it with their faces to the wind so that they might hinder the wind's prying fingers from extinguishing the warmth. The hobbits huddled next to the fire with the resting pony at their backs. They hoped that the snow would not bury them alive. Ariana came to them soon and examined their feet which were beginning to show signs of frostbite. There fingers were also in danger. She removed from her back a bottle of carved stone that was so thin the fire light shone through it and cast a red light in her hands. She poured the red liquid upon a rag she carried with her and rubbed the stuff into the hobbit's feet and hands. Instantly a warmth soaked through their being and life returned to their limbs. They thanked her through chattering teeth, but she only smiled and said nothing.

Galdor stood and watched as Ariana rubbed the red liquid onto the hobbits feet and hands. After she was done, he moved over to where he could talk to her. "What is that you used on the hobbits? Though I rely more on my own power then on medicines, I still know of almost all the different medicines used in Middle Earth, but I have never seen this liquid. What is it?"

Morning slowly arrived, but the shivering winds and devestating cold did not go away. Instead, they had become more intense and frightening. The hobbits were who suffered the most and their pale faces could not hide that they were not capable of withstanding such a harsh endurance test.

"We must go back, the hobbits will not survive another night day like this!", yelled Hamann to Gandalf, trying to make his voice heard in the middle of the ever threatening wind. "The mountain wants to kill us all!", yelled Hamann.

Gandalf agreed.
"We must! Lets work our way back!" The mortal fellowship looked with disgust upon the elves who walked lightly upon the snow. Legolas called out.
"Farewell Gandalf! I go to fetch the sun!" And he bounded away around the bend of the mountain. Hamman and Strider tried to plow through the snow. Over the night feet of snow gathered upon the mountain. Were it not for the wisdom of those in the fellowship, and had they kept going, they would have surely been killed in the pounds of snow.

ANAMATAR

Anamatar stared towards the Redhorn Gate. There was a horrible storm brewing on Caradhras. The mountain was angry. But then something startled Anamatar. There was a bluish green flame upon the mountain side. And dark figures moving slowly. Anamatar stared at these for many minutes, wondering if they might be the fellowship. And if they had so many wise people why they were trying the redhorn gate.
