If you wish to understand why I am opening this thread, you'd better FIRST read this:
"Knowledgebase" (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5095)
Now that you have done so, you may give your opinions! :)
I, personally would start with a list of a few people whom I have had the pleasure of meeting at the TTF, have exchanged opinions and have MOST FRANKLY BOWED TO for their knowledge on Tolkien!

The list is NOT ranking them!!!!!

>Grond
> Maedhros
>Walter
>Ancalagon
>Gate7ole

These are not all! I'll soon add new names :)

Now, it's your turn! :)

Tar-Elenion and Aiwendil2 are in a class by themselves.

I fully agree about Tar-Elenion and Aiwendil2 and Cian!!!

Would this list have to involve only current forum members?

As for the former Loremasters, if they do not participate NOW, then we either invite them to do so and enjoy their knowledge, or just be satisfied with the memory of their presence.

As for the future Loremasters...Well, we still don't know them....

Well?

Ah! True, my friend! :D

BTW, if a body of true Loremaster is to be formed for the purpose, discussed in the above linked thread ("Knowledgebase"), what do you think - HOW MANY should comprise the Board.....and should we specify a certain number of members in this Board at all or not....?

I think that the contributors to this thread should be on your listQuiz/Trivia (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=377&perpage=40&pagenumber=1)

The fact that this group includes myself is just a coincidence as I am to modest to put my name forward:p ;) :D

Chymaera, my dear Wiki-fellow, don't be lazy! :D and make a list of those who YOU think should be called Loremasters.

I must say I am flattered to have my name on the list, but I must say that I am far from a 'loremaster' in this field and consider myself a poor relation to the knowledge of many of the members who contribute on this forum. The main reason I involve myself in many of the debates is simply to try and learn more about the subject being discussed. Many times I have been overshadowed by contributors and it is always a pleasure, because it only serves to further my knowledge of Tolkien.

(In no order)
Grond (see below)
Anc has asked to be taken off of this list, just to let everyone know
Variag of Khand
Harad
JeffF
Tar-Elenion
Gothmog
Gate7ole
Maedhros (see above)
Aiwendil2
lindil.

Hey, might as well be politically correct, and delete the list all-together. :)

You can remove me from the list, and you can add Aiwendil2 and lindil.

Grond

I must also add that I hardly deserve the honour to be included among so many who actually "deserve" the title. I know little when compared to the likes of Aiwendal2, Tar-Elenion, Cian and the others named within this thread.

Thanks you for thinking I'm so much better than I really am. :)

Oooh.. and please erase my name from the list.

Maedhros, Anc, you really need not withdraw your names from the list.
The purpose of this thread is not to flatter somebody.
I highly respect your knowledge on Tolkien writings and I know that both of you have enough of it, in order to answer a question or to discuss a topic providing solid facts as arguments.

The question then is : are you willing to do this job?

Because what we are discussing in the above quoted thread is >>>>how to help people find at TTF factual information on a topic they are interested in. On the other hand, if we have such an informative section at TTF, the space of the site will be safe from being overloaded with too many unnecessarily opened threads on similar or even same topics.

For the purpose of building up such a section, we surely need true Loremasters.

So? :p

Of course, Walter's suggestion to have his Tolkien Wiki-site as such TTF-section can be a suitable solution.... And I've seen you both there ;)
So I'm sure that you "fit" the title "Loremaster" quite well !

Sting, THANK YOU very much for the list of those "candidates"!

Still nobody has commented on the number of the possible "Council of Loremasters"
