well, I sorta scanned through, and the only things I got was that like 2 new people joined, K patted me on the head for being stupid (but funny) and K got a new avatar
Happy ungroundedishness, D! :D Meep, I hate being gone and then coming back and finding loads of posts that I want to read but don't have the time to. And that might happen more now, for me at least, because I'm actually getting behind in typing! Ack! Stupid teacher, moving so fast all of a sudden...grrr...
Anyway, I forget what I patted you for...oh crackers...

Will someone get me up to speed?

Sure- maybe we can come up with some LOTRs inspired Limericks. Or, LOTRs inspired Love Sonnets?
Wonko The Sane
04-03-2003, 09:03 AM
Can they be dirty limericks?
YayGollum
04-03-2003, 10:03 AM
Well, I have no idea if the rules would allow that. *hides* <--- Wait. Doesn't that imply that I do have an idea? oh well. Anyways, I don't think that you missed anything important, crazy lady. sorry about that. Got it. I'm making the thread. I'm surprised that noone else did. You people are usually impatient.
Wonko The Sane
04-03-2003, 10:12 AM
Hehe. Impatient but also lazy, my friend. Very very lazy.
And soon you'll learn the dirtiness that is Wonks Rules Limericks. Hehe.
*cackles evilly*
YayGollum
04-03-2003, 10:21 AM
I will? oh well. That must mean that they aren't so dirty that they're breaking some rule. Nothing wrong with that. Why would you cackle evilly? oh well. I should find that site with all of the superly cool Gollum poetry.
Wonko The Sane
04-03-2003, 10:37 AM
They'll be dirty limericks..but only suggestive and not outright disgusting.
That way I can still stay on the forum.
*Grins*
YayGollum

Got it. Except that all things of the sort you're talking about would be disgusting to me. *runs away from his fear of physical intimacy* I posted the thread. oh well.

YES! SUCCESS!! I finally came up with a title for myself! It's a bit long, but if I need to shorten it I won't. I just use one my my many aliases. :D My Title:
THE Crazy Hobbit, Fun Funny of the Illustrious Guild of Outcasts, Weilder of the Five Alter Egos, Magdalainian Warrior, Traveler of Worlds, Student of Talkida Teroliprette, Best Friend to a Phoenix, Random Quoter of all things Bizzare, and DDRer Extrordinaire!
It may change. In fact, change is very probable. I know I've missed something. <thinks>
Kailita
04-04-2003, 02:50 AM
Whoa...*stares at the title in awe*...
I don't think I could ever make up a real title for myself. Too many different aspects to put in, I know I'd forget something...
YayGollum
04-04-2003, 04:31 AM
I made a huge title for myself one time. I forget where it went. oh well. It was longer than that, but I still left things out. oh well. Are you expecting me to stick that on the list of members or should I wait until you're sure?
HobbitGirl
04-04-2003, 05:52 AM
I know where your title went, Yay. Tis in the Guild of Monty Python Meglomaniacs...or something to that effect. I know I saw it there. And it was way cool.
I edited it, and now it is fit for posting on the thingy ma bob. :D
Title craziness! :D

Why wouldn't you be able to say that? oh well. Yes, that is my master plan. Turn everyone into Gollum Fans. It will never work. oh well. Anyways, sure, yes, welcome. Also, Yay us! I finally got that scary webmaster person to put that little summary/description thingy under the guild of Outcasts on the main page.

Welcome to GOO, Annushka. :) Nope, no special requirements, you just have to be an outcast. And Yay says that you're either an outcast or you're in denial, so I suppose that means that everyone is allowed.

YayGollum
04-12-2003, 02:47 AM
What did you expect? I thought it was cool. oh well. Yay for that scary webmaster person being around more often nowadays! Anyways, no, not everyone is allowed into the illustrious guild of Outcasts. Only people I don't hate. I can't think of too many people that I hate, so that's not a big problem, is it?
Dragon
04-12-2003, 03:37 AM
nope, not a big problem, and besides, the people that you hate probably hate you too, so they wouldn't want to come here anyways...:D
I don't know what I excpected, I just know that wasn't it.....don't ask for my reasoning, I don't understand that either
Frodorocks
04-12-2003, 04:32 AM

Yay for our description! Short, simple, and sweet. Yay for me being able to predict that that exact thing was going to be our description! (Or maybe its yay for me remembering that Yay said somewhere that that was indeed going to be our description...) If that made any sense....
Boo for me rambling! :D
Kailita
04-12-2003, 11:58 PM
I think rambling might be a characteristic of outcasts. Are there any outcasts who don't ramble? I know I do. But I like to hear other people's ramblings...it lets me know that I'm not the only one...;)
Frodorocks
04-13-2003, 02:36 AM

It's out of Welsh mythology- I've also been told it was used in...one of the Merlin trilogy-s (what is the plural of trilogy? Does it have a plural?); I think it was Stewart's. And hey to you too!

I'm infamous already? Well, there're worse things to be infamous for :D
*heads to his scary Arthurian legend buff mom lady to see who Rhiannon was*
Sounds like a cool mom (scary in a mom is always good); Rhiannon wasn't Arthurian, though. She's from the Mabinogion, which I'm pretty sure is online somewhere. But she has various incarnations as one of the Faery, a goddess, and a queen; in general is much cleverer than her husband, Pwyll, the Prince of Dyfed, and is a step ahead of everybody else.
YayGollum
04-15-2003, 03:04 AM
She's a crazy mom lady. She's over here, too. Goes by chrysophalax, but she loves being called Chryso. Anyways, yes, she has never heard of a Rhiannon person having anything to do with Arthur type stories. It's just some Celtic name.

Terry Pratchett is a god.
I want to be Granny Weatherwax when I grow up.
That is all.

I don't think I could bear to be Granny Weatherwax (if I were in your position), she doesn't know anything outside her area of expertise. Gotta admire her skill with headology, though :D
Rincewind's the best character, but if I could be any of them, I'd have to choose Sam Vimes - an incredibly clever fellow.
A great Rincewind quote, though
'Are you alive?' he said. 'If you're not, I'd prefer it if you didn't answer.'

I knew that. If it's any consolation I was thinking in the past tense, honest.

What does that matter? I don't enjoy the other Discworld books as much as I do the ones about the witches (I've been reading Pratchett haphazardly and all out of order).

Thinking in the past tense, were we? Ok, I suppose that's allowed ;)
I love the Discworld books, I've read all but about three. However, I finished reading Witches Abroad the other day, and I didn't really enjoy it. Well, I did, just not as much as some of the others. I almost dropped it and read Knights Of Dark Renown by David Gemmell instead. Managed to finish it though, then read the Gemmell one, then another Gemmell one, Stormrider - the last Rigante book. Damned great author, that David Gemmell. Anyway, back to Discworld, I think I prefer the ones in Ankh Morpork or with Rincewind, they're more exciting :)
Rhiannon

You didn't love Witches Abroad??? *gasp* I feel faint... It's my favorite! Well, maybe Wyrd Sisters is my favorite. And Maskerade.
I've never heard of Gemmell.
Wolfshead

Hmmm, seems you just prefer the Witches :) My favourite is The Truth (The one with the Ankh Morpork Times). The truth shall make ye fret!
Everyone should read David Gemmell. He's described as 'probably the finest living writer of heroic fantasy'. I just can't get enough of his books. I'd say you should read at least one of his, and see what you think. I think I'll recommend Dark Moon, it's a standalone book, but superb. But I haven't read a bad one by him yet, although I think Stormrider could have been extended to at least 600 pages (rather than 400-odd), or maybe even another book. See if you can get Dark Moon, read it and pass judgement :D I'll warn you though, it's adult fantasy, with some material unsuitable to children (women, not in too much physical detail, but they're mentioned a lot, and fighting is described in detail, with wounds and the like).
Rhiannon

I'll look him up *eyes teetering TBR stack* but it might be a while. Sounds a bit like Elizabeth Moon, insofar as gory realism, and I love Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksenarrion.

The Watch ones are my favourite as well (or have I already said that?). Have you read the newest one, Sador? I can't actually remember what it's called now, but Vimes has to go back in time to save Ankh-Morpork. That was a very good one.

When I was five, Rai moved in next door and we've been best friends ever since. What with one thing and another, I adopted her as my little sister, which she is in all but blood (I am six months older than she is). Lomelinde is our third sister, the middle one; collectively we are the 3 sisterz, aka the wyrd sisters, aka the fates- we also fit in to the role of the three princesses fairy tales always have- I am The Eldest Princess, Rai is The Youngest Princess. I'm the Amenable Lone Wolf. I like this title very much because it's very me; a year ago I was part of a drama team going to a competition of all the DoDDs schools on mainland Japan, and on the bus I was talking to our very awesome drama teacher about my older brother who is...well, he's something else. She commented that he was a lone wolf, and I said I didn't know what I was- I have to spend a certain amount of time by myself, but I do like to get out and be around people a bit, too. She said "Oh, you're a lone wolf too- you're just a more amenable one." So there it is.
I have only a few really good friends- well, two really really good friends, three really good friends, and then a small group of people that I am friendly with. I can count the people I would call friends (in real life) on one hand- I have more friends online that I would consider good friends than that, though. But I have a hard time making friends, so the ones I have are important to me. But as a general rule, I live far away from them. So I'm mostly on my own, in which case you might say my friends are superflous- but then there will be Something and I will need them. So yeah, they are vital.
Raithnait
05-04-2003, 11:22 PM
At least you're no longer halfway around the world, only 4 hours away... but then that always makes the seperations harder IMO.
And yeah, I know I'm lucky to have her, and I find myself pondering how would my life be different if they hadn't moved in next door when I was fiveish? We've had one big fight and I was absolutely miserable because absolutely everything in my life has something to do with Rhi or her family or a book she told me to read once or something. We didn't speak for a week, and I almost collapsed from nothing to do and I couldn't read save for Shakespeare and was getting really tired of Old Willy... Rhian is the sister my parents never gave me and I loves her muchly.

It`s not just about getting help or something. It`s when you can`t share your thoughts, your wishes with anybody. They are stuck within you. People have to express themselves, don`t they? I think loneliness is the worst thing in the world.
Hey, Rhia, being far from your friends is REALLY bad. 1st you can`t interact with them as much as you want. 2nd, there is the danger to go separate ways. My best friend is 3000km away from me. I`ve seen him last 2 years ago. I miss him so much sometimes, I talk to him in my head. And there is noyhing I could do to make things better. Yay for Internet for bonding people:)

yay, family can always find you and know you, you will alwasy be stuck around them, so you can't tell them secrets or anything, and you can't escape them, and you are more likely to make them mad since you are around them more and when you make people mad, they do mean things....and you get mad at them......besides, you can always get rid of friends, and make new ones.....(not that I mean to, but......it is a possibilty....heheheh...j/k)

It's good to have family you can talk with and share things with. Your family can be your friends. But friends outside of your family are good, too. For one thing, you don't have to be around them 24/7, so you don't get as sick of them. For another thing, it's good to have outside sources. And for yet another thing, of course your family understands you because they've known you all your (or their) life. But it's really cool when a friend understands you because you haven't spent your whole life with them, they just figure out how you tick. (Even though with some friends, you do know them your whole life long.)
Rhian...I need some help with my vocabulary. What does Amenable mean...? :o
I don't think I could ever stand a life like yours. I hate change. I almost died when we stayed in the same town but moved houses. Then again, I was six at the time...but still. Doesn't it tear you apart when you have to leave everything you've gotten used to and all the people you've grown to love? I don't know...maybe it's not like that for you. Three of my really good friends are base brats (excuse the term...it's meant affectionately, of course ;)), and they're leaving at the end of this school year (which is in about a month), and I can't stand it.
I think a lot of acquaintances are good...but I'd rather have just a few best friends. Within the group of about seven people I hang out with at school, five of those are my really good friends, and three of those are my best friends. One of those best friends is moving in about a month. But...I'm trying not to think about that...

"Hobbes" like Calvin's imaginary friend stuffed animal tiger in the Calvin and Hobbes comics. :p
Moggie, because it's Scots for cats.:D

Thank you all very very much. If he only knew how many people take part in his life he would feel so important. Well actually he IS important. I can`t sleep at night cause he walks all over me. And I can`t send him somewhere else cause he gets so lonely:( And I`m pretty sure he`s a guy:) Anyway, now I can`t make a decision;) I really liked Mufasa, Rusty and to tell the truth Mr. Perkins. But I don`t wanna steal your cat`s name, Yay. Moggie sounds a bit like a girls name, doesn`t it?

since you like, mufasa, rusty and mr. perkins, but you dont want to steal yay's cat's name, we could vote for mufasa or rusty if u can't decide...  tell us if/when you make "the decision" heheh:D

I don't care if you take the Mr. Perkins name. I didn't come up with it. Anyways, it doesn't sounds like it'd fit for a reddish kitten, but oh well. Whatever you decide. If I had to choose between those last three, I'd go for Rusty. Even though it's common. *hides*
Annushka
05-15-2003, 06:57 PM
Well, I`ve been thinking really hard:) And now I think that Mufasa would fit him perfectly:) Now he`s too little for such a powerful name, but he looks just like Muffy. When he gets older Mufasa would be perfect. So that`s the one. I`ll post his photo and you`ll see how cute (I hate this word) and adorable he is. He hates to be lonely. Sometimes that`s a bit annoying cause he follows me everywhere. So thanks to everybody once again. That was really helpful:)

Yeah, I think that's a good idea. Mufasa is, like you said, a little too powerful for a small kitty, but when he grows up he will be a large, regal, red cat, and then it will fit. And for now, Muffy is just adorable, I think. :) He can be our official GOO kitty. :D

Did I forget that he doesn't have a tale, or is it just not visible? oh well. I've only had a few catses that looked like that. They were ---> Matter, Energy, and Frisky. My evil father named most of our catses very bad names.

Of course he has a tale. Have I said he hasn`t? Every morning at 7-7.30am he wakes me up to feed him. That drives me crazy cause I hate waking up so early. But can do nothing about it. He keeps bugging me until I get up and give him something to eat. My mom likes him but doesn`t really think I should keep him. And Energy is not a bad name:)

Anyways, Annushka person, you gots to keep the Official Feline Of The Illustrious Guild Of Outcasts! Also, Ack! No, my evil father is not interesting in any way. I don't get why anyone would name catses some of the boring things he did. We had a litter of four kittens that he named Matter, Energy, Time, and Space. Space was my favorite. The normal black and white type.

I joined the incarnation before this current one, which was about when it started getting really popular. Now it's one of the larger Tolkien boards, and still one of the most book-oriented around (most of the other big boards went movies when they came out).

All you need to do to join is be an Outcast. And YayGollum's famous quote is "You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial." Therefore, everyone is an Outcast, so everyone can join.:) So of course you're welcome. :) And welcome to you as well, Tal. Just one question. How do you pronounce your name? I heard on the news this morning that a christian school in Melbourne has banned HP from there because it has supernatural themes. And that kids couldn't tell the difference between fantasy and reality.
Seems to me HP gives them a perfect opportunity to teach them this important distinction.
I wonder if they would ever ban the bible for the same reason?
Plenty of the supernatural in there.
Rhiannon
07-02-2003, 07:14 AM
Gah, people like that drive me nuts. It's okay to not like the books because they deal with magic, but for heaven's sake, stop kicking up such a fuss! Has anyone ever pitched such a fit about The Chronicles of Narnia? Well, Little Bear Wheeler did, and our whole family was very annoyed with him. But geez. If the kids can't tell the difference between real and imaginary, that's not a problem with the books.
HobbitGirl

I guess it's just one of those, "Oh, I'm a terrible parent who never pays attention to my child, so I have to go off and blame everyone else when s/he does something wrong."

07-02-2003, 07:54 AM
Yeah I mean if these kids are going around trying to cast spells with willow wands or whatever they'll pretty soon learn it doesn't work.
And I think those HP books are very well written and have a lot of literary allusions which could make for great classroom discussions. Not to mention how hard it is to get some kids to read anything at all, so I would think they should be thanking Ms Rowling for encouraging literacy.
Rhiannon
07-02-2003, 07:57 AM
Yes. My little brother plays 'Wands' with my sister, and we're very conservative Christians, and my parents aren't worried about him becoming a pagan or a satan worshipper.
Sador
07-02-2003, 08:08 AM
Exactly. I don't think I can think of any classic kids story that doesn't have supernatural themes. Think of Hans Christian Andersen or the brothers Grimm. Even Mother Goose! It's all witches and fairies. Elves and goblins are a staple of children's literature and always have been.
What is Tinkerbell if she isn't supernatural. The Tooth Fairy? The Easter Bunny? Santa Claus? Lets ban them all or our kids will all become Satanists.

Actually, Sador, I know people who won't read their kids fairy tales, who don't do Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny; completely refuse to talk about any of it. Because we're homeschooled, we meet all types, but generally on the conservative side.
And we think they're being silly and just move on...
Though it reminds me of a Ray Bradbury story (I think it was Ray Bradbury, anyway).

We went to see the 2nd HP with my little nephew. After that he thinks, dreams and talks about nothing else. He's 6.
