I thought we might get one thread where we can post all the reviews we can find for TTT. I'm talking specifically of pre-release reviews. Here are the ones I've found so far:

You hang tough Nom - I'll try my best too. I think I'll give into reading ones that are supossedly not "spoiler filled" just to tide me over...
I'm mean really, at this point - what good does reading reviews do for us? We're so close and we're absolutely gonna see it no matter what the reviews say so all we're doing is just spoiling ourselves. I like it in little doses which require a lot of speculation when we got a long wait but the reviews will just douse us with all the information and severly hamper our first viewing.

If you don't hate MTV yet, read these reviews from AICN and you will. How pathetic can they get? Interviewing movie-goers in the middle of the movie?!?

I can understand not wanting to read the reviews which give so much away, and the fact that one is going to see the movie soon enough anyway regardless of the reviews. However, I did find these reviews encouraging, though I admittedly skimmed through the scene-by-scene descriptions as I don't want to know exactly what to expect. Mostly I wanted to read what they liked and didn't like, and it seemed to me that the important stuff (Treebeard, Gollum, Helm's Deep) all got rave reviews. Also, there seemed less deviation from the book then had been rumored. I noticed that the rumor about a 40 minute Helm's Deep battle was untrue, it's actually closer to 20 minutes. Otherwise I'm not going to reveal anything; if you want the details click on the links.

The above review is very reassuring, and has no spoilers.

This quote scares me a bit:
I do think a warning is in order for those who know the books well: for maximum viewing pleasure, be open. Scene for scene it is not as close to the book at Fellowship was. But don’t worry
FoTR was not even close to being scene for scene (except maybe for the EE) and if that is any inidication of TTT, we are in for some serious trouble. Even the people who loved the movie had a problem with Faramir. I will not be too happy with PJ for that. There is no need for such a change. But of course, PJ can do no wrong and has a great reason for such a change that shouldn't be nit-picked apart.
Also when someone who loves the movies and the changes warns the purists to be open, you know we're in for a long haul of complaining. I am even more torn with this movie than I was with FoTR...sigh, but I know I must see it, purists ways be damned. Oh, but the bickering that will follow will be extensive. Oh yesssss, my preciousssss.....
One thing for sure from all the reviews I've seen good or bad, Gollum seems to be most impressive CGI ever and Helm's Deep will blow us away. Of this, I think I can be happy and looking foward to seeing.

MTV didn't say anything. They had pre-release showing of TTT, and at climax of the film (Helm's Deep) they walked in and started interviewing people. While the film was happening!! How pathetic is that?

Actually, there has only been one bad review so far, and it was by a non-reader. All the others have been exceptionally positive. But follow that persons advice: "be open".
That's odd...a non-reader disliked the film? Given the numerous changes...I'll just let that thought dangle.

theonering.net have done my job for me, so I'll just a post a link to thier review page and let it be:
http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/8/1039126531
PRH, this same non-reader also happened to think FotR was a horrible movie. Other non-readers gave it very good reviews. Interestingly enough, Entertainment Weekly gave it a seemingly negative review, yet a "B" rating. Go figure

Why do you think the reviewers warn purists to be open-minded? Because most of you are pretty obsessive, that's why. We need to remember that the movies are separate from the books. Perceptions of the books themselves vary widely, and any film made of them would have a few deviations. As long as the "soul", if you will, of the story remains, grudges shouldn't be held like this...
Here (http://www.zombiekeeper.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8273) is the most positive review I've read (though I haven't read many), it's posted by "The Submissive Trout". The link it so a horror movie forum that tolerates more colorful language than TTF does, so be warned. Though I don't recall anything too colorful on the page that the link is to.

Nom, I take it you haven't read Harry's review from AICN? Even I have to admit he has gone over the top here. He loves these movies in a very unhealthy way:

No, I hadn't read that. Wow...

Not that I agree with the extensive goodness of the movie TTT.
I mean that this guy not even once mistakenly criticises the movie because of the book.
Instead he correctly sets the movie in the proper context:
Other epic movies!
Kurosawa, Seven Samurai, Ran
Anthony Mann, El Cid, The Robin Hood, Eisensteins Alexander Nevski, Sergio Leone, Star Wars, Gladiator
This is a movie that is in debt to so many movies that one should first ask the question wheather it steals from or pays homage, falls below or out-does those predecessors.
Harry is my man!
