i dont know if this has anything to do with the guild, but why did van gough cut his ear of, was he drunk (he was an alcholic), mad (he was in a alylum for a while) or both. some say he had a fight with a close fraind of his witch made them seperate the friandship, so hecut his ear of in sadness, what do you think i think he was drunk and mad and cut his ear off.

I am pretty sure Van Gogh had severe depression and that resulted in his cutting his ear. Another thing is... Van gogh didnt cut off his ear like most people think. He actually only cut off a chunk of it, kinda like Tyson bit off a chuck of Evander Holyfield's (sp) ear. :cool:

There's a beautiful song "Vincent" which is about Vincent Van Gough. Basically, he had ideals and was a visionary in a world where dullness was the norm. A beautiful spirit crushed.

Vincent VanGogh cut his ear off because he was a bit insane from syphilis. He had just had an intense argument with his art partner, (the only person he thought really understood him) and had actually come after the guy with a razor. But then his partner fled, and Vinnie ran back to his room where he cut his own ear off, and sent it to a local prostitute (in the village of Arles) name Rachel. Her connection to the painter is iffy, I don't really know why he sent it to that paritcular girl. But she called the police, and the towns people signed a petition to throw him out of the village.
