I think they will screw it up somehow! If they make it just like the book then I will be eternally grateful... but Im sure theyll change it and ruin it. Post your comments here on how you think they will change the Eowyn-Nazgul scene in the ROTK

I actually doubt it will be changed maybe it will have some more length but that will probably be about it.

I can imagine the slight possibility that small changes will be made to the scene, but I have no idea how they would change it without changing a lot of other things in the process. We will just have to wait and see. I wouldn't start worrying about it now though.

Also with the increased role of the female characters (meaning Arwen) so far I doubt very much that he will cut down an important scene like that.

I still think they will cut something. The 3rd book has too many important things, they will cut a lot from it.

Of all the books the Return of the King is likely to have the least amount of stuff cut from it. The book itself with out the appendix is 2/3 the size of the FOTR. True they will most likely cut something, but I would highly doubt that they would cut something as important as the scene with Eowyn and Merry killing the witch king. That would just be stupid.

I think they will cut the scouring of the shire and go right to the part of Frodo leaving for havens.

Ah, but how will we know about Saruman's little... misfortune if they take out the scouring?

I PREDICT:
NO scouring of the Shire
NO separation of Frodo and Sam. Frodo either DOESN'T get stung, or they kill Shelob another way. Face it: Sam does not care for Frodo as much as in the book. Can you imagine Movie Samwise weeping at the death of Elijah Wood?
NO madness of Denethor!
NO friction between Faramir and Denethor! (They are so alike anyway.)
NO Imrahil
NO Oliphaunts at the siege of Gondor
NO (and I hope I'm wrong) Paths of the Dead
:( :(

I think the Eowyn - Nazgul scene will be lengthened, if anything. It's a vital part of the story, but more importantly, to the producers, it's action-packed and very dramatic. Therefore, I think we can assume it will be included and probably lengthened with more action in it than the book. It's too good an opportunity for them to miss.

i hope she marries aragorn instead!!! Well, this, we can safely assume, is not going to happen. In the book, Arwen marries Aragorn, and Eowyn marries Faramir, it is not going to happen any other way. So stop hoping :)

So far, he has managed to stay within adaptation, and he loves the book so much, he's not going to change such an important part.

The only problem I can forsee with the Eowyn/Nazgul scene is that Miranda Otto is a curvy young lass. Turning her into the lithe yet masculine Dernhelm should be difficult.
Very tight armor and duct tape perhaps.

Lots and LOTS of duct tape, no? :p
Yes, he will make Eowyn one of those sexy Valkyrie women... o well, I wont complain...
I wonder how he will conceal her feminimity until the Nazgul showdown... maybe she will rip off a cloak or something?

Not THAT curvy. A little bit of armor will fix that anyway.
There was a kid at Helm's Deep that looked and sounded like a girl (son of Hama, I think?) Plus almost all Rohan folk have long blond hair, so all is working towards her getting away with it.
She'll be there!
I bet she pulls it off better than Gwyneth Paltrow did in Shakespeare in Love. She ran just like a girl.
Miranda has already shown she can swing a sword without being wimpy.

Hopefully her eyes wont bug out like they did in the TTT when shes fighting.
That was scary!

That's true! I think I'll start a TTT cringe-fest.

Frankly, Eowyn was one of the few TTT characters I liked. Her and Brad Dourif as Wormtongue. Yay.
To Eowyn: You may not have liked Grima, but he's a MUCH more fully realized character than Faramir (boo!).

I believe that they'll have the Eowyn/Witch King scene.
However, there probably won't be much of that "I'm a woman, not a man, so I can kill you" bit. That would require too much explanation for the movie, imo.
Paths of the Dead, I feel, has to be in ROTK, because what else will Aragorn do on his mini-journey before arriving at Minas Tirith?
I think that Frodo will get separated from Sam, partly because PJ and co. were complaining that there wasn't enough for the two hobbits to do in ROTK, so why would they then leave that part out?
Saruman will either die at the very beginning of ROTK, or I believe that he might die at the end of ROTK in the Grey Havens scene, but that is a stretch I'll admit.
Sure Denethor will be screwed up; it wouldn't be too hard to have that in the movie . Also it would show precisely why Aragorn is needed to lead Gondor...it has no King and the Steward is crazy.
One thing I'm not sure about being in ROTK is the whole Faramir is dying subplot and him getting together with Eowyn.

Faramir won't die right? I'm reading that part of the book right now. Don't tell me he'll die.... Please!

i've done alot of reading of RoTK to guess what scenes pj will depict. the eowin-nazgul confrontation will happen, i think, because pj alluded to her being a fighter like 3 times in TTT. i dont think theoden will be under his horse if and when the big bird perches on it. (it will be PG-13). Nor do i think Eowin will be shown to cut the head off of the bird. he'll just get off it or something and they will have it out.
now i've got some predictions:
1. The great armies of sauron when they attack minas tirith will be mind-blowing to watch, but don't look for heads to fly over the walls, it's PG13. Grond will be there, fire trenches too.
2. Arwen tells Aragorn his path is with Frodo (inTTT), so look for the Paths of the Dead, minus the doorman.
3.I think Elrond will show up ready for battle in the end.
4. Frodo will pass the Red Book to Sam in the end, on the ship with all the rest right there at the Havens. But movie time-wise, i can't see how they will get there (maybe more narration?)The extended DVD pj says Galadriel will have more of that in RoTk.
Those are my hopes, although who knows what pj will do next? He never ceases to amaze.

Umm greypilgrim.. have you seen the first two movies? Heads and arms HAVE been severed in each one. PJ will not hesitate to show Eowyn chop off the head of the foul beast and Theoden under his horse. PG13 is stretched to the limits these days, but in all the scenes where a head was hewed, it was of an Orc. Orcs are gross and hateable. PJ wont show heads being chopped off of humans, that would be too much for the younger viewers.
So in all, a great evil dragon thing will be OK for its head to be cut off.

I really think the Witch King, Eowyn scene will in fact be lengthed to make the battle more appealing to people. PJ won't hold back anything... have you seen Dead Alive or Bad Taste? :p Even if it isn't a splatstick, he still wouldn't hold anything back.
