Has anyone noticed that Legolas has 2 different eye colors? When I saw the preview for TTT they were light blue, but in FoTR they looked brown. Is this an editing flaw or whats going on??

I'm pretty sure they were blue in FotR:

i noticed this too, but I think from far away they're mistaken for brown because it looks darker. and on close-ups they probably give him ultra-blue contacts....

Ok here are two pics that demonstrate the different eye colors:

I'm not convinced.. it might just be shadow in the picture where they look dark.

Yeah, I think the one where his eyes are darker is just due to lighting. Go see the film and you'll see what I mean.

i agree with you. And people who have naturally brown eyes shouldn't try to have blue, it just doesn't look right. But most elves in the book had 'grey' eyes anyway, so it doesn't really bother me.

I don't understand why they had to make Legolas blonde anyway. In the book he is dark, and they cast an dark-haired and dark-eyed actor, so why all the trouble of giving him blond hair and blue eyes?

Sets him apart from the Men if he's blonde. They obviously didn't want him looking like a younger Aragorn or Boromir, which he may have if he'd had dark hair. That's my theory, anyway. :)

Legolas' eyes in the movie are definitely blue. Sometimes due to lighting they look darker. I thought that his eyes changed colors but when I really looked, I realized that they were always the same color.

When does it say that Legolas' hair is dark in the book? I thought that his hair color was never mentioned.

I can't find it now... I was sure it was said somewhere (help, anyone???).

No I think Caran is right and it has never been mentioned in the books.

Its near the end of Fellowship of the rings , when Legolas was looking up at the sky for something to shoot it . It said the stars were glittering off his dark head or something , but I think that could be becuase it was late at night too . So you could really take that to mean either he had dark hair or his his was dark from the night . His father has golden hair , so I always thought that it made sense , even though I thought of him with dark hair . His eyes are blue in the movie for sure . ;)

Yes, I remember that part about the stars being mirrored in his hair. I took it to mean that he had dark hair...but it could be taken either way. However, weren't the Mirkwood Elves dark haired?

Thranduil was light haired I have no idea about the other Mirkwood Elves.

I noticed this a while ago, but it doesn't matter to me he's still legolas with brown or blue eyes.

Legolas's eyes are blue all the time in FotR. It is for sure a matter of light when his eyes look brown. For instance, in the two pictures posted here by one of you, the one in which his eyes look brown he's looking straight to the camera, so the shadow of his own head is falling on his eyes; the one in which his eyes look really blue, he's looking upwards, so the light reflects on his eyes.

I disagree that Legolas has blue eyes in the film. He should have had grey eyes, and since he has naturally brown eyes (which is closer to grey), why to make him wear blue contact lense? It is just foolishness. And one thing that is very mistaken for em too is the fact that he is very blonde and his eyebrows are too much dark. When someone has blonde eyes, the eyebrows are generally rather fair. Look at one his pictures with attention and you'll know what I mean.

See you soon,
'Rasec.

I still think that blonds w/brown eyes are sexier than ones w/ blue eyes just cause they are different oh yah and Rasec some blonds have darker eyebrows cause the sun never really touches ones eyebrows g

Legolas' eyes were fake, Orlando Bloom had to wear contacts, his eyes are brown.

The plot we are all discussing about is wether his eyes are blue or brown IN THE FILM, for in real life we all know he's dark-eyed. At least most of us, I guess.
