Hey Beorn, hows it going? I read in the book,The Complete Guide to Middle Earth, that the Balrogs and the Ungoliant were part of the Ainur. If that is true then how can Gandalf (who is considered to some people a Maiar) kill the Balrog?

Sauron and the Balrogs were Maia (servants of the Ainur)
Tom B, The Istari (wizards) and Ungoliant were probably Maia.

The Istari were Maia.
Ungoliant is believed to be the 'darkness about Arda' so probably an Ainu, and Tom Bombadil is a mystery, though many think him to be an Ainu.

Ainur ARE the Maiar and the Valar. It's almost certain that TB is a maia, he is described as being the Eldest , he is most certainly not an Elf, so the only explanation really is that he is a maia. Ungoliant, I'm not sure about, but may have been a maia too. The maiar were not exactly "servants", they were just of lesser stature and power than the Valar, who were fifteen the most powerful of the Ainur.

Hey I heard somewhere that in the FOTR at the very end that you can see a blue punch buggie in the back ground. I CANT FIND IT! Any clue someone?

most of these are urban rumours, ie someone has ehard form someone who has heard from someone that there is something in the film, I own both the theatrical version adn the EE and I can swear that there are no such things in the movie...so put your mind at rest.

There was a car in theatres (I didn't notice it) which they edited out of the EE, and possibly the Theatrical Edition, DVD's, although I can't remember.
No punch buggy, though.

this i disagree on again, there is a rumour going around that you ca see a car going in the distance in a scene of hobbiton, but it's not true, I did watch the theathre version about seven times and i spotted nothing, so it is another urban rumour i'm afraid

Other: In the scene where Sam and Frodo are in the field with the scarecrow, you can plainly see a car cruising past in the distance, from right to left. Further comment - there are two different shots which show the car moving from right to left. One starts at the top right distance, and in a shot a few seconds later the car has travelled down the road a bit and is more easily visible. Complicating matters is that the dust thrown up by the car looks similar to smoke from a chimney in the right distance, making some people think it is just the chimney. But chimneys don't move, and the smoke from the chimney is separate from the moving vehicle. [It is deleted on the DVD, but you can still see an obvious bit of image fakery on the hill just left of the smoking chimney. One can see the hill, tree, and surrounding area move up and down and shimmer slightly where someone has done a cut and paste to cover up the auto. The "car inclusive" scene appears on the National Geographic documentary Beyond the Movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Also, watch the music documentary on the extended dvd - when it shows this scene the car is still in it.]
The above comes from www.movie-mistakes.com (http://www.movie-mistakes.com) which is an incredibly reliable source. It deletes any "mistakes" that didn't actually occur, and this one has been up there for ages. I'll have to try looking for it myself, as I believe it's somewhere in the Special Features section of the FotR EE.

What I was driving at was that all these so called mistakes appear on a website somewhere, but how many people do you know who have actually seen any of these themselves? And also people say that these mistakes only appear in the theatre ,they have been deleted from DVD's... well I still doubt the websites words.

It is impossible to delete all, or even most, of the mistakes from a movie. The car one probably is the only one.
Who has seen these mistakes? I have seen quite a few myself. If you doubt the validity, take a look at the site, then watch the movie. Notice the boxes moving around behind Sam's head after Gandalf pulls him through the window?
Granted, most of the mistakes are completely over-lookable or foolish, but they are there.
P.S. Just make sure that if you do look for mistakes they don't ruin your love of the movie. :)

Saw "FotR" several times on TBS recently... it's starting to grow on me, really. My favorite part is still the very beginning.
I haven't read through all 18 pages of posts, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. One of the incongruities that just gets bigger for me every time I see the movie is when the fellowship is marching through Hollin... and Frodo slips down in the snow, and the Ring with its chain slips off for Boromir to pick up. Five minutes later (relatively speaking) Frodo gets picked up by the Watcher in the Water and shaken like a rag doll, and the Ring doesn't budge! Anybody else have a problem with that? Huh?

Maybe Frodo learned from the incident in the snow to keep the Ring and its chain more tightly secured under his mithril shirt. ;) :)

I set up a wager with a friend of mine about the part in FOTR were Gandalf 'dies'.
One of us says that Gandalf says 'Run, you fools!'
the other one claims he says: 'Fly, you fools'
We watched FOTR during Chemistry and the subtitles say: Fly, you fools, but the whole class, including the teacher, says it is Run.' I hope that you us can tell what it is.

I am 99.5% sure it is "Fly, you fools.", but will not give a definitive answer until I can look at the DVD.

You teach is swrewed up man. It's "fly you fools!" ...she problobly thinking about a little earlier when Gandalf says "This foe is beyond any of you. Run!" That's probobly what got her mixed up. I think I've watched that freaking moive 50 times so far....I should know! *grin* :D

Since a bet was involved I did not want to give a certain answer until looking again at the DVD, which I just did. As I thought, it is "Fly you fools" and then Gandalf falls into the abyss below the bridge.

Actually, Gandalf had asked a riddle of a group of houseflies that they couldn't answer. So he said, "Fool, you flies!" :p

What *Removed* me off a bit about the first movie wasn't the removal of Bombadil but the fight on the hill top ringed with trees against the wargs just before they enter Moria - it would have made a cool set piece, not have messed with the pace of the movie too much and probably resulted in the removal of the *Removed* men vs wargs fight before Hels Deep. i would really have liked to see a evening battle with lots of fireworks etc which was written there for P.J to see:D

PJ has load of extra's in the Fellowship of the Ring which make short appearances and most of them don't bother me but one is driving me crazy. The fat old hobbit who's always sweeping in the Shire.Who is he? He always gives the four main hobbits and Gandlaf dirty looks for they have all been "disturbers of the peace." He also appears in the Return of the King when the Hobbits return to the Shire and again he gives them all dirty looks. Who is he!?

This is a hard question, but I agree with Firawyn. The elves the fellowship deal with are in the western part of Middle-earth and I think that's where the race of Quenya Elves live. Though I could be mistaken.

Yea but Legolas is a green Elf of the Sindarian speech, and most of the non-Noldorians never bothered to learn quenya.

I wish to know why Galadriel was meant to be one of the most beautiful of all elves, yet the actress that portrayed her looked like a chimp. Meanwhile, Eowyn looked great!

I think Jackson stressed on more of having her look mystical than beautiful. Even though in the extended version Gimili admits to wanting to look upon her beauty again.

Both Quenya and Sindarin are spoken in the films; Sindarin is far more prevalent. You can see a list of the various languages that appear in the films here (http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie_elvish.htm).
For diplomatic purposes, Legolas' knowledge of Sindarin and Silvan would have sufficed. I doubt very many Elves of the Woodland Realm would have ventured as far west as Lindon (where Quenya may have been required)--and it is extremely unlikely that Legolas would have been obliged to undertake such a journey.
But I'm only speculating.

Thanks uglyduckling

Ha ha ha ha!!! I don't think she looks like a chimp, I agree with you, on the books Galadriel is described as an incredible beautiful creature.
I think this actress has a lot of personality, and that's what the character needs IMO.

Peter Jackson pays attention to Arwen Evenstar, the daughter of Elrond and wife of Aragorn. She is not more important than Galadriel but Peter Jackson decided to make her more important... But I don't like the actress Galadriel though my favourite character is Galadriel (in the books)
