View Full Version : Who is the Most Powerful Elf

During some of the EE commentary they say that Galadriel is the ultimate in Elven power or something to that effect. I had always believed it to be Elrond who was the height of compassion, knowledge and ultimate power however the movie slights his pedigree and it seems they place hime below Galadriel. What are your thoughts:(

I believe Galadriel is much older and wiser and more powerful than Elrond.

I think that Galadriel is the most powerful of the elves, though Elrond was also very powerful.

Well, Elrond is the keeper of Vilya, and Galadriel the keeper of Nenya, so I have no doubt that both are very powerful. I'm going to go with Galadriel, however, due to the fact that she is the last of the pure Noldor, and Elrond is "only" Half-Elven. :p

Its hard to say so I voted other, for both of them.

Galadriel has lived in the Blessed Realm and seen the Light of the Two Trees. I think that clinches it (remember Gandalf's comment - regarding Glorfindel - about 'those who had lived in the Blessed Realm', and how they were powerful in both the seen and the unseen worlds...)
What Eriol said coupled with the fact that she had Nenya makes her the most powerful elf.
Someone said that Galadriel was the last of the Noldor, I do not know how many exiled Noldor were in Middle-earth at that time but she wasn't the only, though none of the others had Rings.
We at least know that Gildor's company were exiles.
We're talking about the movie here though, were she is clearly the most powerful elf that we have seen. Unless someone cares to argue that Arwen seemed most powerful in the movie? :D

Galadriel.
For all the reasons mentioned above.
Unless someone cares to argue that Arwen seemed most powerful in the movie?
Well, if PJ is a member of the forum, we will soon find out I think:D

Galadriel. She is the only elf in Me who has seen Valinor. She is wiser than Feanor and one of the most powerful elves ever.

I would say Galadriel is the most powerful, but Legolas is my favorite elf, but he isn't the most powerfull.

Nay, Gildor's company have seen Valinor.
Many elves were more wise than Feanor if you ask me, though he was the most crafty. Finrod in fact (according to the elves, acccording to Athrabeth Finrod Ah Andreth) was the wisest of all the exiles...that means he was more wise than Galadriel, also the most intelligent if you ask me. :D I think (will have to look this up) that Cirdan was also more wise than Galadriel, though he was not a calaquendi, and therefore probably considerably less powerful.

It is debatable whether Gildor and his company have indeed been to the Blessed Lands.
Finrod is said to be the wisest of the Exiles...It is also said that the wisdom of Galadriel "increased with the long years" (UT), and the years were long indeed (cca 7000 years since Finrod died), which leads me to believe that she was wiser than he, if not in Beleriand, then later in Middle Earth for sure.
Círdan saw deeper than any in ME; I do not recall any allusion to his wisdom being greater than that of Galadriel.
Elrond would be the more influential Elf. The councils were held at his home and he harboured the scattered Dunedain in Rivendell. Lothlórien was shut to strangers and Galadriel was but a rumour to the peoples of Middle Earth.;)
It is debatable whether Gildor and his company have indeed been to the Blessed Lands.
Then let's have at it... by all means.
First of all, Frodo says that they are high elves. Also, they sing of Elbereth 'we still remember'.
Now while none of those things may be absolute proof, there is also this:
There was a shimmer about their feet.
Ah,and one more little tidbit:
Gildor said himself that they are 'exiles'.
And do you suppose that Finrod's wisdom ceased to increase back in Aman? ;)
Seriously though, I agree that she may well have become more wise by the end of the third age than Finrod had been when he (stupid Sauron  ) died in the first age.

Is this going to be moved to the book forum because of us?:p
ALL this is not certain evidence either way:
- "we still remember we who dwell..." ---> that is indeed pretty specific...though it could be just a song they learned...or wishful thinking, to someday see the Blessed Realm.
-"these are High Elves" ---> while Frodo is certainly not your average hobbit, he is no loremaster either. With how many Elves did Frodo come into contact so far, that he was able to make such a decision? Can we trust that as sound judgement?
- Frodo says: "These are High Elves! They spoke the name of
Elbereth!" ---> I fail to see why that should point to anything. Songs are passed down from generation to generation. Aragorn sings of Beren and Luthien, Bilbo sings of Eärendil, Frodo and Sam say the word "Elbereth" themselves, but none of them really know of what they sing FOR REAL, they have witnessed none of those events nor seen any of those persons.
- "exiles" ---> now this could be evidence! (and probably is or so I hope! I like to think of Gildor as a High Elf)
And do you suppose that Finrod's wisdom ceased to increase back in Aman?
No, not ceased. But when you are faced with great evil and go through many trials in lands that are not protected by the Valar, you're bound to learn more and accumulate experience and wisdom faster. IMHO of course.:)

Did ya forget the fact that it was I who started a thread over the very fact that Frodo may have been mistaken for those exact reasons.

I was joking when I said that about her, which is why I said "seriously though" at the front of my next comment. :D
Yeah, sitting up in the highest mallorn while folks like Haldir work their butt of to keep the land safe must teach many things! ;)
Yeah, I doubt this will get moved into the book section, but it is going off topic.
Does anyone really contest the fact that Galadriel is the most powerful elf in the movie? If not, there really isn't much more to say on the topic, not right now at any rate.

I don't feel like enumerating the deeds and merits of Galadriel right now...which is why I choose not to see that.:D

I believe galadriel is the most powerful elf because they would have just given just anyone one of the Rings.

Well Elrond was given a ring and he's up there on the poll as well, so you can't use that as a reason.;)

I don't think either Elrond or Galadriel was more powerful than the other, i think they both had their areas of abilaties.

I think Galadriel. She is old, wise, pretty, and she glows green when she gets mad! lol but I just think she is the most powerful

I voted for Galadriel, but on second thought, I think it is that Keebler elf.
I am sure he has a lot more soft money to give to Middle Earthen political parties, and we all know that money is power.
