My Sil maps leave much to be desired, as this most critical place is located in the crease of the pages, making it very difficult to make out.

What I really want to know, is where Gondolin is (was) located when looking at a map in the 3rd age.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Did all of this fall into the sea?

No I believe it is just southeast of Minas Tirith surronded by mountains but I can't find a map of it.

Gondolin cannot be found on a Third Age map at all (or a Second Age map for that matter).
Gondolin was located in that part of Middle Earth commonly referred to as Beleriand, which sank under the waves at the end of the 1st Age.

Maybe this can help you -

The best point of reference between the first and third age maps is to find the Ered Luin (Blue Mountains). On the Third Age map they run down the west, quite close to the sea. In the North is a small island called Himling, which is also a useful reference point.

When you then look at the map of Beleriand in the Silmarillion, you will find the Ered Luin runs east of Ossiriand and Thargelion. Near the source of the River Gelion, to the North where it is the Little Gelion, is a mountain called Himring, which I believe is the same as the island Himling of the 3rd Age map. Looking at all that lay to the west of Ered Luin gives some idea of the scale of the devastation of Beleriand.

Ah thank you. I understood all of this perfectly last I read the Sil. I guess it's time to read her again.
