Yeah. I get all red and blotchy. Well, I suppose we can't all be Ingrid Bergman. Dangit.

Yup. I think especially of Liv Tyler in TTT. The Arwen crying scene was just way too perfect to be true.

I don't think people who cry "perfectly" exist. They live only in movies, where the heroine isn't allowed to look less-than-drop dead gorgeous. I can say for a fact that the few times I've bawled I look singularly ugly(at least, when I looked in the mirror afterwards my reflection wasn't pretty). Now, when I cry silently, which happens against my will occasionally, I can cry...well..nicely. Since I'm concentrating every fiber of my being on squelching the tears, not many leak out. And I do happen to have those sad crystalline glassy tears eyes when I'm about to cry. They're not all their cracked up to be, everyone can tell in an instant if you're sad or tired. It takes a lot of focus and practice(which fortunately I have plenty of both) to hide emotions when you have "big, beautiful eyes". Gets very annoying.

ugh. crying.

I look TERRIBLE when I cry.... my eyes swell up, my face gets really red and blotchy, and when I cry, my nose runs, so I have to get tissues and I'm constantly wiping my nose, except, I'm crying, so I'm too focused on being sad, and every once in a while I forget to wipe my nose and the bugers mix with tears and its disgusting, so, I dont cry anymore, I wont let myself

I have this beautiful friend that looks even prettier when she cries, and my favorite thing about her is that she's THAT pretty and she manages not to be vain AT ALL she is anything but vain.....I'm so proud of her:) :D

Ack! Boring! New Outcast Reality Zoo type thing ---> Goals. I don't really care, I'm just moving the subject away from crying. No talking about the taking over the world type goals. Those are mine. :D

Annushka
05-22-2003, 01:03 PM
I have many goals. Some if them are possible to pronounce others not. And I have absolutely no interest in taking over the world:D I wanna be succesful. That`s the main one. In everything I do. Well, that doesn`t mean I`m not ready to lose:D I want to be aknowledged by the people I respect. I want to travel all over the world cause it makes me think widely. And one personal goal - I want to able to give back my parents everything they gave me.

The-Elf-Herself
05-22-2003, 05:25 PM
Okay, one of my goals is making sure that no one, especially not Yay, gets to take over the world. Sure, it's fun while your doing it, but then you're stuck governing all that mess. Better to just cause chaos in the present world situation.

I also want to get a good score on my SATs and PSATs, get a degree in zoology, and open an abused/abandoned exotic birds refuge. Oh and release a couple of CDs with the help of my friend Sarah(I write modern alternative songs, she writes folk. She's really good too, I've just got to get her to let me post her stuff.) I'm also going to write a fiction novel, not sure what kind yet, and travel to the Amazon rain forest(parrots), the Ivory coast(African Grey parrots), Australia(cockatiels and budgies), Germany(good food and language), Russia(because it's cool), and Hungary(my paternal grandfather was from there, besides, I want to see if someone can translate my ridiculous-sounding last name into the original language it can from.) Hmm, and plan on getting married, but avoid situations that might lead to marriage, therefore nullifying the whole divine plan to make a firmly single girl eat her words. A last thing: I want to read every single Agatha Christie book there is. Why? Just to say I did it.

*Looks over her post* Hmmm, I'm an ambitious young git, aren't I? Oh well, fortunately I'm also very flexible if some of this stuff doesn't work out(everything except the marriage thing, that's fool-proof).

hmm, you know something funny, wonks? ur not in that one:confused: w/b!

my goals....well, first off, to be on the good side of whoever ends up ruling the world:confused: um, go through college, and graduate, prove that I really AM smarter than everyone else, write a book or two that at least a few people enjoy.travel a little, have one of every single style of buddha statues in the world, have every peice of clothing in my wardrobe have at least one dragon on it  become a world videogame playing champion, get married to the coolest guy in the world, have two boys that I can play video games with, one girl that will help me prove to the world that girls are equal to boys:rolleyes: (and maybe a little better) a dog, a cat, have a best friend that I actually do things w/, and keep them 4 almost my whole life, and lots of other things, too, but
i dont remember them

Goals: Get a good education. Write and be published- at least one book, hopefully lots more. Learn to speak a foreign language at least fairly fluently (preferably Welsh). Travel across Europe; travel across the US. Be a clear thinking, well-traveled, educated, moral person.

Getting married isn't a goal- I wouldn't mind it if I found the perfect person, but I'm not counting on that. I have big plans for my spinsterhood.

actually, now that you mention it, it isn't really a goal for me either, just sort of something I would like (marriage, and kids)

Kailita
05-23-2003, 02:36 AM
Oh, Rhi-ish! So darling! (*Wishes she had a little sister like that*)

Heh. Since Yay is determined to stop our talk about crying, I suppose I have to switch over to the goals frame of mind, hm? Well, all right then. But first, I have to repost this as I laugh out loud:
my goals....well, first off, to be on the good side of whoever ends up ruling the world
Hehehe...that's always a good thing, D. :D I have a friend who wants to become dictator of the world. I told him to remember me when he becomes powerful, but he told me that the only way that would happen would be if I married one of our other friends who is going to someday be one of the world dictator's counselmen.

I have no wish for power or "success" as the world defines it. In fact, I'm preparing myself for life as a starving writer in a leaky shack. It's not exactly a goal of mine. It's just the low expectations so as not to be disappointed thing.

Let's see. I want to be a psychologist or a counselor or just someone to help people with their problems. I'd like to write fiction books for young adults...maybe even adults later on. I have a whole bunch of ideas for a series already, it's just putting it all into writing, then editing, editing, editing, then going through the hell of the publishing world.

I'd love to play guitar in a band sometime before my thirties. I don't really want to travel right now, but that might change as I get older. I want to have at least one dog to keep me company (in my leaky shack ;)), and I want to start a garden and fill my house with windchimes. But I'll put them up high, in case I ever have kids.

Ah yes, the kids/marriage issue. Umm...well...I'm not getting my hopes up. I even have a whole nun complex laid out that I entertain myself with, but I'll probably bust that on you guys sometime in June. If I do have kids, I want to have two and adopt one. But if my first child is a boy, I'm adopting a girl next to make sure that I don't put myself in a position to possibly end up with two boys and then a girl. If you have a situation to prove me wrong, please do, but I've found from experience that in families with two boys then a girl, the girl always ends up being spoiled (because she's the only girl and the youngest). But all my plans are subjectable to change, and I just want to go where God needs me. :)

Hmm...well...right now I don't know WHAT I want to do with my life.
I've wanted to be a writer for a long time, but I don't think I have the talent.
I love Biology and English...And Anthropology..and pretty much everything.

Unlike the rest of you my goals for a career are totally undecided...but my goals about marriage and kids are pretty much in place.
:) I obviously want to get married (to Snaga) and have a few children. More than one less than 7. :)
And Snaga and I both have a feeling our first child will be a girl.

I wasn't serious about that taking over the world thing, crazy people. But then, if my goal of growing some ambition ever works out, I would end up with some huge position with all kinds of responsibility. Ick.

Very cool answers, scary Annushka person, crazy The_elf_Herself person, Rhiannon, Kailita, and Wonko The Sane people. But then, I wouldn't waste the money on travelling. Whoops! How's about we all just get rich and have an Outcast caravan tour? Anyways, Ack! The_elf_Herself and Wonko The Sane people! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love is bad! oh well.

What's w/b supposed to mean, evil Dragon person? oh well. Your goals are crazy. No offense. *hides* I agree with that friendly thing with the big guy in charge, but I don't understand that thing about having a good friend for most of your life. oh well.

I would love to hear about the crazy ideas for bookses you people interested in writing some have. Or are they still too early? oh well.

Wonko The Sane

Love isn't bad!!!

Love is great!!!

And furthermore, I want to travel the world. :) Everywhere.

I'll be living in Great Britain so I've got that area covered...and then I want to go to Italy, Spain, France, Egypt, Peru, Japan, Mexico, and on and on and on. :)

Snaga promised we could go together.

YayGollum
05-24-2003, 09:47 AM
Yes, love is bad! We should stop talking about it everywhere! oh well. Yikes! I have nothing against Outcasts travelling. I just happen to be a miser. Which = smart. *hides* I said something about an Outcast caravan for when we all suddenly become achingly wealthy.

HobbitGirl
05-24-2003, 11:06 PM
But Yay, we have to focus on becoming achingly wealthy first, and becoming achingly wealthy requires goals. :D

I'm with Kai in the fact that I really wouldn't mind if I never become a bazzilionaire. I do, however, want to get into a career that earns me enough money to comfortably support a husband and two kids. :) My money ambitions don't match up too well with my career ambitions, unfortunatly, because I want to be a writer, which means I'll end up living in a leaky shack with Kailita. :D I can only hope that my future husband will be some kind of nuclear physisist that makes all sorts of dough. Yeah right.

I want to write, I love to write, and I already am writing. I have a novel going right now which is the sequel to a novel that Kailita is writing. :D I've got tons more ideas swimming around in the old noggin for more novels. The Wars of Lohan story in the Prancing Pony by Kailita and me is going to be a novel someday.

Um, ok, other goals. Um...well, I want to meet and marry and procreate with a really awsome guy...preferably with green eyes, blonde hair, a personality that balances mine and good morals...but that might be too picky. I want to see as much of the world as I can, especially Europe. Two places I am most definitly going to go to some day are Ireland and France. I'm also going to make it back to Hawaii some day, and if I hit the big bucks I'll get a summer house there. :D

Let's see...anything else? Oh yes. Yay, for the last time, love is not bad. Your rule number one is wrong.

Wonko The Sane
05-25-2003, 02:20 AM
Dear People,
Money isn't that important.
I know a guy I'm about to marry who had a job that made him loads of money.
But he wasn't happy.
So he quit.
And went back to school.
So that he could enter a field that won't make him nearly as much.
But he's HAPPIER. :)

That's what's important really. Money doesn't always make you happy.

Love,
Wonks

The-Elf-Herself
05-25-2003, 02:31 AM
Of COURSE love is bad. For me anyways. But if I go around saying that I'm not going to get married, it's almost a guarantee that I will end up getting married just because the divine workings have a strange sense of humor. Therefore, I "plan" on getting married, but actually do anything and everything to NOT get married and I'm saaaaaafe!:D

I don't want to be hugely wealthy. In fact, my chosen line of work pretty much makes it difficult to amass any sort of pile of cash. As for what my book'll be about, um, I have to go do something right now, post it up on at a later time.

Wonko The Sane
05-25-2003, 02:33 AM
Hmm...I never used to want to get married. In fact I told people I wouldn't ever do it.
Even though I thought about it I was convinced I'd never fall in love "like that".

Hah. Life is weird. :)

I'm afraid, yay, that, with you being the strong-headed, disagreeable person that you are, It would be a waste of effort to even begin to try to explain my "goals" to you

w/b means welcome back:)

That`s exactly what I was going to say. So Yay go ahead and tell us;)

Love is not bad while it lasts. Haven`t you ever noticed that after being in love with someone you just don`t understand what was about this person you liked:confused: And while being in love you are sure that that`s the one. When it`s all over you realise that this person could never possibly be THE ONE:(

Yay and Jam will definately end up deeply in love:)

But I don`t really understand why people are SO obsessed with this problem. Finding the right person bla-bla-bla. That`s something that must and will happen naturaly. Nobody can do nothing to have or not to have it.

I would love to hear about the crazy ideas for bookses you people interested in writing some have. Or are they still too early? oh well.

I have two or three (or six) different ideas for fairy tale retellings in my head (maybe half of them are Beauty and the Beast), with bits of them written down, but none of them are anywhere near finished, and some are barely started. I have had plans to write a fantasy series (YA, probably) ever since I was six years old, but the plot and the world have fluxuated so much it's hard to say if it will ever get done. I have a couple of other vague ideas about books, but not enough to say anything about them. And when I travel, I plan to keep journals (not 'today we had lunch at such and such and visited the so and so', but observations, etc.) and edit them in to books; not exactly a memoir, not exactly a travel book, but when I write long posts about things I've done at Readerville etc., people seem to enjoy reading them. Maybe it's a biased audience, but oh well. I like to write for writings sake, any way.

Hehe, sounds like fun! :D In all truth and honesty, I really don't care about being rich. For one thing, it would take me forever to get used to it. My family has always been borderline, as far as money goes. We've never been anywhere close to rich, but we've never been poor, either. After we've paid the bills, we're almost broke, but then my dad's paycheck comes in the mail and we're back to borderline where we started again. My parents both work at things that they love, and we've always been happy. We've always had everything that we need to live with a little extra. And that's how I want to continue living.

Ugh. My best friend is like that with all her boyfriends. She's hooked up with seven different guys this year (I've started calling them by number instead of name ..."Hey, #5, how's it going?"), even though only three of them have actually gone out with her. When she's with whoever it happens to be at the time, she's just head over heels for him...but afterwards she can't stand him and asks me, "Why did you let me go out with that guy?" Bleh. I'm never going to be like that. :p

Crazy HobbitGirl person ---> Got it. The goal of travelling all over the place doesn't have much to do with getting lots of money. When I ask about the stories you people are making, I'm looking for plots and interesting advertisements and superly cool things like that. oh well. If you're going to say that love is bad, you gots to back your ideas up. Or would you just get tired of fighting a hopeless fight?

Crazy Wonko The Sane person ---> Oh. I guess I'm being just as hopelessly hopeful as someone who thinks they'll be able to run into the true love type stuff when I'm hopeful that I'll be able to run into an enjoyable type job that gives all kinds of money. oh well. To each his own, I guess.

Crazy The_elf_Herself person ---> Got it. Trying reverse psychology on divine workings. I hope that works out for you. I'm just too achingly stubborn for my own good and have been known to deny myself all kinds of fun just so I'll end up being right. :D

Evil Dragon person ---> The only thing I was asking about was that thing to do with a friend for the rest of your life. I would think that you'd want one for your entire life. Whoops!

Scary Annushka person ---> When I say that love is bad, I'm saying that the result is bad. Why jump into something for the fun of it if you know it'll end up achingly hurtful? Anyways, Ack! No. I am not stupidenough to let something change my views on the evilness of love. It's the exact same thing as not letting yourself slam your leg in a car door.

Crazy Rhiannon person ---> Makes all kinds of sense to me. just like this HobbitGirl person, plots and interesting advertisements and superly cool things like that would be appreciated. *hides*

Crazy Kailita person ---> Got it. Sure, my family is like that and it's never been very enjoyable for me. The evil mom lady always whines when she's mostly out of money. Keeps saying that I should get a job. oh well. This summer. Money is bad, but necessary.

My goals ---> Well, like I said before ---> Grow some ambition. From there, I'll obviously get a job that pays all kinds of money and tosses all kinds of responsibility at me. If I got to live anywhere, it'd be either New Orleans or New Hampshire. I gots to go to Las Vegas sometime. Let me see here. My independent studies are huge. I gots to become a huge expert on different subjects in my spare time. Can't think of much else. I adapt.

I'll have to dig up my summaries and get back to you, then- what I got of my fairy tales is up at fanfiction.net (under the name Kathryn Angelle) and at the Wyvern's Library section of Elfwood, if you feel like hunting for it, but I think (I haven't updated anything in forever) that they are mostly short stories.

Annushka
05-28-2003, 10:23 AM
Kaili I didn`t mean that. It`s just when you aren`t in love with a person anymore you see him differently. With all his flows etc. I haven`t been in love for a lo-ong time but I still remember what happens AFTER being in love. You are all empty and tired. But there is a good side too. You are absolutely free to do ANYTHING with your life. That`s the main reason why I prefer not to be in love. The heartache, which as Yay says is very bad, isn`t the worst. What I really don`t get is HOW Yay is going not to fall in love for all his life:confused: The technical side of it. Not looking, talking, listening to the girls around??

The-Elf-Herself
05-28-2003, 02:18 PM
Yay probably means to avoid talking/being around any girls who might posses any dangerous qualities that he might fall in love with. Although that won't work, because crazy people can always sneak up on you unawares. Just keep a nice, safe wall of dispassion around yourself and it's built-in immunity.

Okay, back to my book ideas. I want to either write science fiction or historical fiction, something different. My thoughts are unclear right now. Oh well, maybe I'll use my idea from a short story I'm pegging out right now, about a town where all these crazy science-fiction style stuff happens, but the townspeople treat it all normal, it's only the tourists that get scared. :D Maybe not entirely new, but I'm taking it in a fresh direction.

YayGollum
05-29-2003, 02:41 AM
Crazy ladies. It is possible to interact with someone and not fall in love with them.  sorry about that. And even if I did run into someone that could be evil to me in that way, I'd use my superhuman ability to be way too stubborn for my own good. Anyways, historical fiction is pure evil. Science fiction is much better.

The-Elf-Herself
05-29-2003, 02:59 AM
I knew that, but I assume that other people don't, a conclusion drawn from all the crazy people I know who have met someone "by accident" and ended up marrying them. Okay, assuming things about Outcasts is evil. I shall repent of that as soon as Yay drops his idea of world domination and birdses become best friends with catses. Superhumanly stubborn, hm? Why bother with that? Cold hard apathy works just as well.

Yeah, the historical fiction idea isn't too attractive to me either, I only stuck it in there so it wouldn't look like I was narrowing my options down too much. Science fiction rules! *goes off to work on her previously mentioned crazy idea*

YayGollum
05-29-2003, 03:18 AM
My superhuman ability to be way too stubborn for my own good is just natural, as far as I know. oh well. Sure, that apathetic type stuff is fun, too. oh well. When I ask you people for summaries about your stories, I don't see why it takes a while. Oh. Maybe you just wrote a good summary that you especially like. I don't know. I'm just looking for some interesting facts that might make me feel like getting interested. Whoops!

The-Elf-Herself
05-29-2003, 03:33 AM
I thought I already gave you an idea of it on a previous post. I dunno. Okay, here's a really rough summary, I haven't even started really writing the darn thing. This is just a little short story thing too, might turn into something later:

There was this little seaside touristy town somewhere in New England, either New Hampshire or Connecticut. The little prolog starts off in the really early twentieth century, around 1910. It was in the off-season, and there was this crazy mad scientist dude who had some really out-there, impossible ideas and ran some really strange, goofy experiments. The other around-all-year townsfolk didn't mind his stuff as long as he didn't set anything too big on fire. Anyways, once he was trying out this new idea of teleportation thingy, running this experiment utilizing, among other things, some chickens, a mirror, some mercury, gasoline, a firecracker, and a rutabaga. Did I mention this guy was really bad at matching his experiments up with the things he wanted to prove? It turns out something about this crazy idea actually did something, and the scientist and the chickens disappear in a big flash that also ends up blowing up all the other experiment stuff and messing something up in the town. After that some really crazy supernatural/science fictiony type stuff starts happening in the town and to it's inhabitants, and keeps happening for the next hundred years or so. It starts up again in modern day, where the stuff is still happening, but the people living in the town have kind of gotten used to it, so they don't notice it anymore. Only they have to hide it from the summer tourists, because they still need the cash flow. All of a sudden something else that's really bad begins to happen(haven't figured out what yet) and one thing leads into another...

Yeah, it's really rough, but I'm actually pretty interested in it, so I'll see how it turns out.

YayGollum
05-29-2003, 03:43 AM
Huh. Now that sounds cool. It'd be good to know what the crazy little things are that the people are ignoring, but oh well. Sounds like something that could be a series. I hope you have all kinds of achingly cool characters. Yay for New Hampshire!

The-Elf-Herself
05-29-2003, 03:53 AM
Ah, thanks! Yeah, it's the crazy little things and the achingly cool characters that I'm still working on, it's why I haven't gotten much done yet as far as actual finished writing. I'm hoping it might turn out to be a series, it'd be fun to show all the crazy stuff that happened in the hundred years gap that I couldn't possibly cover in one story. *goes off to work on other boring schoolish stuff that has to be done before she can work on superly fun fictiony stories* Bleh.

Rhiannon
05-29-2003, 04:49 AM
I don't think my stories are very summary-able, except for the fantasy series that has morphed so much that nothing is concrete. I've started two different Beauty and the Beast re-tellings- The first is very different from the second, which is in the first person and very Middle Eastern in its themes. The first isn't exactly medieval, but definintly western. But all my fairy tales are generally atmospheric and imagery oriented, as opposed to focused on plot. This sounds bad, but I read lots of it. Anyway, that doesn't exactly tell you much- but my library page is here (http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/libr/c/h/charis/charis.html) so you can see for yourself if you want. The Middle Eastern Beauty and the Beast is up in The Prancing Pony - Reading Eyes (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10856)

Much better! You should stick those links in that library thread! Anyways, doobedoobedoo... I made comicses with my best friend of all time when I was a little kid. About a bunch of weird animals with the personalities of people we knew. I was a chameleon. He was a giraffe. I was cooler. oh well. I still have a folder with all of our coolness in it. We started a book, but only got to the third chapter. Then he became evil. *bawls* Nevermind. The only thing I'm interested in writing now is a book about all of my RPG characters. Whoops! I have the more characters than anyone around here. That I know of. What were we talking about? Yes. It's late. I'm rambling. I would love to help with that crazy New Hampshire science fiction.

The-Elf-Herself
05-29-2003, 04:55 PM
Really? That'd be great. I spent all last night writing up character bios and crazy stuff, but I realized that I'm kind of short on guy characters. Makes since I guess, since I usually write girl characters more often. Might PM you later to get an opinion on some of the craziness. Anyways, the title for the first short story that I already wrote the summary for is Of Seaview, Fritz, and the Indestructable Chickens. Seaview is the name of the touristy little town, Fritz is the name of the scientist dude, and you'll learn about the chickens.

That comicy things sounded interesting, too bad about your friend. How many characters do you have Yay, total? I have six.

Rhiannon

Those comics sound very cool, Yay! (hm, if I were an animal, what would I be? Kailita would be either a little bird or a kitten)

In Japan our youth group was very small (me, my sister, and three other girls) and we all sat together during church, and we'd doodle on the bulletins- Irene would draw Bob, the stick man. And then Erica would draw the Bob-Killer, a tank. And then I would draw little stick people comic strips of all of us killing Matt, Erica's next door neighbor and the youth group's archnemisis.

*Laughs* You had a very violent minded youth group, Rhian! And if I were an animal, I would be a nightingale. :D

I used to draw comics of me and my friends and my brothers. I only have three. But they were so much fun. Crazy, but fun.

Jamish's idea sounds cool, I'd like to see some of that down on paper. And I would say Rhi's Reading Eyes is very good. Worth taking a look at, especially if you're into the fairy tale retelling genre.

Summaries...hmm...the main series that I'm working on centers around the royal family of a fantasy world and the things that happen to and around them...almost everything is connected in someway or another...a couple Earth people get bumped in during the first and last books...it's hard to explain. I'll work on getting together a good summary.

HobbitGirl

Yikes, summaries. Um...<scratches head> I suck at summaries. And titles. They're just pure evil. But anyway...

Jamish, that sci-fi story sounds SO cool! And a Middle-Eastern Beauty and the Beast retelling...awsomenesss! <runs over to the Prancing Pony> :D

BTW, if I were an animal, I'd be a phoenix. Yes, I know it's not a real animal, but I'm too insane and multi-dimensional. I know of no real animal that matches my personality...so a phoenix it is. :D

Kai, we need to colaborate on that summary. Call me, darnit!

I have fourteen RPG characters if you count animal sidekicks. If you don't, I have ten stand alone characters. Very original! Anyways, the comics had eighteen. Maybe I should steal a few personalities and make some more characters. oh well. Yes, a summary would be nice, but if it's some kind of huge problem, don't worry about it. *sniff*

Kailita
06-05-2003, 02:33 AM
I have...*counts*...fourteen RPG characters up to date as well, though some of them are very underused. Counting animals, I have sixteen...but I don't usually, because only one of the animals actually interacts in an human-like fashion. And a lot of my characters are connected...as in, if one is in the RP, the others probably aren't far behind. I have two sisters and a caretaker/guardian who are always together. And I have a mother and a daughter who are always together.

Umm...summaries, summaries. Ack, it's very hard to fit so much material into one little paragraph...especially when you're summarizing not just one book, but a whole series. Erk. *Mutters about her inability to recap*

YayGollum
06-06-2003, 02:42 AM
Why have I not seen all of those character profiles? oh well. I hope that they're all achingly original. Anyways, I don't see why a summary is that hard to write. What genre of story would you call it? What types of characters are in on it? Is there some kind of goal, or is it just a bunch of random ramblings?

Kailita
06-07-2003, 06:55 AM
I've only used...*counts again*...five of my characters here in TTF. Kailita (hence the name ;)), Kellis, Kelandra, Kestrelle, and Divérde (darn...broke the chain of K names...). So that's why I don't have many profiles up.

As far as summary...okay, thanks for helping me get started. It's fantasy, takes place in a different world, kind of a Midieval era except with a lot more common sense.;) The characters and goals change with the books, but at the same time tie in together through the whole series. The main characters are the royal family of Magdala, one of the prominent countries in the other world (called Atávve), and how the family changes and progresses through the generations. Some of it you'd just have to read to understand. The first book starts out with a girl from Earth stumbling in on Magdala, and the last book starts the same way (except it's a different girl - the original girl's daughter). From there it gets complicated and I'd have to give details. There is lots of magic, some wars, lots of characters...it's mainly a focus on people and their circumstances and what makes them act the way they do. I have loads of fun with the different civilizations and their customs and etc.. I don't know if anyone would have fun reading the books except me, but I've had fun writing them. ;)

In other news...I've finally found a good way to describe myself. I'm a very deep thinker, but not quite an introvert...I love people and am too crazy for that...so I think I am an introspective extrovert. I'm outgoing, talkative, friendly...but I need my downtime and my space and my time to be alone and think. Does that make sense?

That story sounds really interesting Kai. I'd like to see you develop it. My own original ideas tend to run towards the weird science fiction genre in case you haven't noticed.;) Tell ya what: I'm not going to bug you about posting it up right now, since I haven't worked on my story enough to post it yet(although it's coming along nicely). After I post it, I'll feel free and clear to tell you to post yours, but only when you're ready. I know how the writing process can be and how life tends to interfere. If only life could be mostly writing. *sighs dreamily*

Oh, BTW Yay, if you really want to help with my story, I need some more crazy character ideas. I'm short on guys, I have four girl characters and three guys. PM me with any ideas please, I'll credit you when I post it, I promise.

There's nothing wrong with writing mostly for yourself. I have all kinds of crazy storieses that I know in my head, but won't take the time to write. Because I've taken so much time perfecting them in my head that it would be boring to have to go through the whole thing again just to writie it down for others. Anyways, sure thing. I can help out with crazy characters. You could PM me with what you know about the history of the town. As in, the ambience or the usual mindset of the average joes or the noteworthy older types. Things like that. Also, the types of characters you already have, so I don't copy you.

*Smiles but shakes her head* HG, you are my condensed fan club. You, my cousins, and my brothers. For now I have no wish to publish my books. The publishing world is a hellhole...the Earth equivalent to Mordor! And I don't want people messing with my ideas and telling me to change things. I think I'll just write the books and share them with my kids when I get older. And maybe get them published some time after that, if I feel up to battling some demons.

Ooh, Jamish, I can't wait to see some of your story. Take your time...get everything right and perfect...and then once that's done, post it up as soon as you can! :D (And then we'll see about maybe getting some of my stuff up. I've gotten the first two books done. The first really needs to be redone...the ideas are good, but I wrote it in 5th grade, so the actual writing needs some help. The second one is better, but it probably needs some editing, too. I'm working on the third one right now - which is actually a prequel - and that one is going to be a masterpiece...a portrait of human character...if I can ever get it done!)

Kaia, the publishing world isn't so bad. Very competitive, but you just have to have no ego and be willing to work hard (mail it out, wait, mail it out, wait, mail it out, wait, mail it out, wait, etc.) and keep trying until you find the right agent or editor or whatever.

And I've sent another short story to Cicada (they accepted one poem, two years ago, and since then have rejected outright one short story and three poems, and considered but ultimately rejected two more short stories and two more poems). I think it's better than the others, and I had some people read it for me (it's up at my Wyvern's Library page still, I think- The Story Without End). But anyway, cross your fingers, and DON'T LET ME OBSESS ABOUT IT. They're reply isn't due until August 28th (twelve weeks) and I am not allowed to start obsessing until then.

The thing is, I'm not a competitive person. My ego is incredibly small (which is a good thing, I guess), but I'm easily discouraged. Constructive criticism is always good, but those publishing people can be brutal. I'm a hard worker and ready to expend myself, but putting yourself out there can be hard, especially when it just turns out to be in vain. I'm hoping I'll get over that as I get older.

I really hope your story gets in there, Rhi! I read that one, and it's so good! (Or I thought so, anyway. ;)) An interesting new twist. I liked it a lot! Kaia, are you easily discouraged by rejection? Don't be. I've been rejected multiple times, and I'm still at it. It doesn't mean you're not good, it just means that the piece doesn't fit in with what they're looking for for their next issue or whatever.

I'd like to think I'm a good writer, but I really don't know. The only people who have ever told me that are my close friends and family. But, then again, they're the only people that have ever read my stuff, because I'm too afraid that anyone else isn't going to like it. Timidity is a curse.

I don't know...whether or not I'm good at it, I love to write, and that's what matters. That's also why I'm doing it more for myself than anyone else. I'm still at it, I just don't know if I'm going to let the rest of the world in on it.

But it does have something to do with me...in my mind, anyway. Because my stories and my poetry are like...a part of me. I don't mean to sound sappy or anything, but when I write things they come straight from the deepest core of me (especially my poems), and when people criticize them I feel like they're criticizing me, even though I know they're not. Urgh. It's probably just a stupid thing that I need to get over. I'm too sensitive.

On an upside, I showed one of my friends some of my poems and she thought they were great, so that was really encouraging. She told me to turn them in to the school poetry/short story magazine. And I just might. But I'll have to wait until next year. I turned one in this year, but it didn't get in. It might have been because it wasn't good enough - there were a lot of really good entries this year - but it also might have been because it incorporated God, and the school system just doesn't like that. :o (Freedom of religion, people, not freedom from religion.)

And finally: Ick. I hated Wuthering Heights, too. So depressing. But didn't Emily Bronte's sister (Charlotte?) write Jane Eyre? And I loved that book...

I'm that way too, Kaia, about people criticizing my work, which is why I like to have people I don't know well do it. Constructive criticsm is a Good and Necassary Thing, and v. Valuable, and things like that; submitting your poem was an excellent first step!

Yeah, the 100 yen store is like the dollar store, only they have awesome stuff. I have a poster of the Mona Lisa that I got from the 100 yen store, and lots of glass bottles and little stuff, and organization type things like folders and baskets. And we have great 100yen store dishes, too.

D, a saki bottle is a glass bottle for serving saki out of- saki is rice alchohol- and it's got a narrow top and a sort of hollow in the middle of it, in which you are supposed to put ice. Mine are clear class except for the 'bubble' in the middle, which is blue. They're v. cool.

And the pic of my sis was taken by my mom, but the lightening was all professionally and Melody was make-upped and things (and the guy fixing her hair is wearing her hat).

I have been instructed to post things about me in here, by Kailita. So here goes nothing(literally, I don't have much of a life, thus an outcast).

I am a 20 year old single(but not looking for anyone) guy. Who likes to play video games, hang around with friends, go to movie theatres, etc. etc. I am a devout Christian who serves on the tech team at church and I also help out in the youth group. I only listen to christian music(all genres except rap). I collect stamps, swords(recently), CDs, video games, and ummm...dust. I work as an engineer at a fire tank manufacturing company. I STILL don't have the internet at home(that qualifies me for membership right there), but am trying to get it soon. I don't collect bottles but my mother does(decent collection). Real name is Branden thus the reason for BranMuffin.
Anything I miss???

Video games = Much funness (Viva Legend of Zelda! *Swoons over Link*)
Hanging around with friends & going to movies = Very good, lots of fun

YayGollum

Nope. I'm not surprised. Yay me. I win. Anyways, Yikes! How many microphones does one church have nowadays? Craziness. And there's no need to tape church type things. oh well. Too bad this BranMuffin person can't answer things.

Rhiannon

Most medium size churches have at least one clip-on mic, the pupit mic, maybe overhanging mics in the choir loft, and probably a few hand held mics. I suppose it depends on the size of the sanctuary.

BranMuffin
07-14-2003, 03:38 PM
We have the ability to have 6- lapel mics(so called clip-on), 8-12 handheld, two over-head choir, one piano, one keyboard, one bass guitar, one acoustic(sp?) guitar, one electric guitar, drums(not mic'ed though), the pulpit has a mic, one organ, baptismal pool has mic, and several other slots to be able to plug stuff in. I run the whole booth: sound board, tape deck, CD deck, Recording tape deck, equalizer, and wireless receivers. MacAddict runs the lights, projector, and power-point slides(on a non-Mac:p ). And yes it is crazy, Yay.

Yay, if you had read my previous post I only have the internet at work, I don't work on weekends, thus the reason I haven't responded till now.

*needs to go check out mom's bottle collection*
She collected most of them from old, old farmhouses in Montana and North Dakota so they are quite collectible.
She has a box full of old bottle caps with the cork underseal.

07-15-2003, 12:36 AM
Mac? Anyways, I don't see why a church would need all of that craziness. Maybe one microphone for the guy with the speech. What else is absolutely necessary. Wait. All of those people should be good enough to be heard. But then, sure, I guess that some churches could be so ridiculously huge that people might feel better with more microphones. Okay, fine, but four is the max.

BranMuffin
07-15-2003, 02:22 PM
Different situations call for different Microphones. And four doesn't work when you have four people singing/leading, the piano, the choir, the keyboard, the guitars, and the pastor all doing their own thing or even all at once.

Oops, sorry again. Misunderstandings are terrible(and a really long word, too).

Rhiannon
07-16-2003, 05:58 PM
Eish, D! I would never get on someone's case just because they believe differently than I do. And the people that call you satan's offspring because you don't attend church should look to their own salvation, because they don't sound very Christian to me! That kind of thing makes me angry:mad: It is not godly behavior and it only works as an anti-witness. My friend is visiting churches regularly. She was willing to take me with her once. The result was so sad for her that now she never talks about going to church with me again.
Oh dear...what happened?

Dragon
07-17-2003, 01:35 AM
hmm, my mom tryed 2 force me 2 go 2 church once, and she got really mad when I refused 2 stand up or sing. she didn't tell my dad she was taking me bc she knows how he feels about church (not very good) so I told him, and he got mad and explained 2 her what she wouldn't take from me bc "I'm just a kid" but it made perfect sense coming from his mouth (of course) so she didn't try 2 take me again:D

heh, shush, whatever u did, I'm proud of u:D :D    :D

Psh. There isn't anything wrong with church, though you shouldn't ever be forced to go if you don't want to.

YayGollum
07-17-2003, 03:03 AM
Ah. Got it. Extra stuff for old people and to drown other people out. That's just craziness. Old people should grab hearing aiding type things. That's something your church could buy. I know nothing about the other evil people you were talking about. oh well. I guess that certain churches just love spending money that they don't have to. Especially the video stuff. Who needs that?

Rhiannon
07-17-2003, 03:07 AM
You mean at my church? The church service (the second one, there are two services every morning because the sanctuary gets to crowded) is broadcast live on the Southern Baptist television channel (mostly watched by home-bound people- elderly, etc).

YayGollum
07-17-2003, 03:26 AM
Sure, I mean at your church, but only if you go to the same one as this BranMuffin person I've been going back and forth with. oh well. I see no need for the services to be stuck on television. How many churches do that? Yikes! Too many.

Rhiannon
07-17-2003, 03:36 AM
Nay, I don't go to the same church as the Bran person, but I did say my church has a film crew. It's a First Baptist church, which tend to be large (and it's across the street from the Methodist, and around the corner from the Catholics, and down the street from the Church of Christ, and a couple of blocks away from the Church of the Nazarene, and there are at least three other Baptist churches in my down. It is really reall weird to go from Japan to the Bible Belt, lemme tell you)

BranMuffin
07-17-2003, 04:25 PM
Our services aren't video taped, Yay. But I am required to record the sermon on audio tape. We are a decent sized church, not huge like the First Baptist churches are(the one in my town had a steeple that cost $1 million and it was donated!). We are in the process of getting a projector for people to be able to read and sing outward instead of down looking at the word sheet all the time. And no, we can't afford hearing aids for everyone. It's cheaper the way we are doing it now.

I live in the Bible belt of Florida. About 15 churches in a 1 mile radius.

Rhiannon
07-17-2003, 08:35 PM
Most churches record the sermon on cassette for people who want to keep it, Yay. (and First Baptists are aaalways huge. We live in a small town and our First Baptist is huge. I miss our little church in Japan).

YayGollum
07-18-2003, 01:41 AM
Yes, smaller churches are best. Anyways, Yikes! I guess I should get around to using these little names you people are going by over here. I was talking to the Rhiannon person when I mentioned the television thing. Ack! oh well. Why do people love trying to find my mistakes? Craziness. What's a Bible Belt? And why would someone call their church a First Baptist church? Shouldn't there only be one of those?

Rhiannon
07-18-2003, 01:50 AM
Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississipi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and probably North and South Carolina make up the 'Bible Belt', Yay- They tend to be very conservative, very religious, most people attend church, etc. (this doesn't make them Christians, it's just that everyone goes to church as 'the accepted thing'). It was really strange to come from Japan (where churches are pretty rare, and only 1% of the population is Christian) to here, where there's a church practically on every street corners.

And Baptist is a protestant denomination that believes in 'believer's baptism', and a 'First Baptist' church is pretty much the first Baptist church to be founded in whatever town (so yes, there's only on per town. I think).

YayGollum
07-18-2003, 02:35 AM
Ah. Got it. I was picturing people from two different places meeting and finding that they both go to a place called First Baptist. There would have to be an arguement, right?

Yeah, I suddenly thought 'Hey! Wouldn't it be wild if my avatar were actually me?' After a while I'll go back to my nifty Eowyn avatars, but I feel like being me at the moment...

And speaking off, here's a picture of a dork in action- me, that is. Note the trunks over my one piece bathing suit, the floppy hat; and I don't in this picture, but for a while I had sunglasses over my usual glasses- then I ditched my glasses and held the book up close. And the book is Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude.

Yeah- I really wanted longer, black swim trunks, but the blue were all they had. Oh well. I'll look for cool ones later.

You have no idea how many times I winced at mental images of dropping my book in the water. And I did get splashed by people (stupid snorkelers! Feet under the water! Under!), but the reason I was reading that book was because it's a particularly hideous mass market paperback, and I got it because it was the cheapest edition the used bookstore had. It turned out to be perfect, though- the book is a magical realism, really surreal, and reading it in an inner tube...just was right. It was awesome. And I loved the book.

I've probably read way more science fiction that anyone here, but as for overall, nivver thought it mattered much. *goes back to reading The Light Fantastic*

Rhiannon
07-23-2003, 10:04 PM
Nay nay, I meant if I was to be librarian, I should be reading, neh? And I'm 17.

Mom says she had trouble getting me to learn to read because I would look at the pictures and make up my own story...(and mine were always so much more interesting than the silly little books in our curriculum). Papa was already reading LOTR to us for the second time by then, I think.

I remember when I was nine reading all the Little House books- I left one out in the rain. Oops. And the next year I read The Deed of Paksenarrion, and after that is was fantasy for me...

Such was the direction of my fate.

I'm sure you've read more SF than I have, Jam- it was never really my thing, though I like it all right.

Ick. No. That is pure evil. Anyways, dogs have owners, but cats have staff. What else? I've found these things in comic strips somewhere. A dog looks up at it's owner and thinks to himself something along the lines of ---> This person feeds me and takes care of me and all kinds of craziness. Cool. This person must be a god. And Rhia, your deep thought is soo true. Do you know this story called - The cat who walked by herself - (direct translation). I read when I was little.

It sounds familiar, but I'm not sure.

Speaking of cats, as a result of a long and complicated story that I won't go in to here, we ended up taking back the kitten we gave to Aunt Diana on account of she can't keep it, and he (Gareth, aka Shadow) is used to sleeping in a bed with someone. So last night (or this morning- 2am) I took him to bed with me. Not happening again! I love having a cat in my bed, but he kept me awake ALL NIGHT. Walking on me, rubbing his head against my (very ticklish!) feet, purring loudly all over my head...and I was tired! and I had to get up this morning at the ungodly hour of 7am!

One of my favorite comic strips is Get Fuzzy. The cat Bucky is insane. It's great!

Rose Daughter is the only book I've read by Robin McKinley, I think. I liked her telling of it, especially the way she portrayed the other sisters, but some of the glory of the book was spoiled by having to do a book report on it that cramped and stifled any creativity.

2. A cluster of feathers on the side of the face of certain breeds of fowl.

Yeah, that is Evil and Not Nice.

And in a fit of randomness, I scanned my amazingly not-evil school ID pictures. The top one is from last year (that is, spring semester) and the bottom one is my current ID. People had told me my face looked thinner, but I couldn't see it until now...of course it could just be an angle thing...But oh well.

Kailita

Oh Rhi, that top one is not evil. Your hair looks really pretty. But the bottom one is good, too. Your face does look thinner...and so do your glasses. :)

Rhiannon
08-18-2003, 05:02 AM
Oh no, I don't think it's evil! It's amazing un-evil (I have vast experience with ID pictures, and they all are hideous, with these exceptions). I'm smiling bigger in it, too...but in the second one, I was really really really tired. I've been wiped out all week. I feel like someone mopped the floor with me....eish.

Kailita
08-18-2003, 06:28 AM
I'm going to be like that in about a week. I'm on a go-to-bed-at-1 get-up-at-9 schedule right now. But when school starts, I'll start trying to get to bed at 10...and of course my body will resist, and I won't fall asleep until 12...and then I'll have to get up at 6 in the morning. Ugh.

But anyway, very nice un-evil pictures, congratulations Rhi. :)

I've been called that before and I keep having to remind people not to. I really don't like idiots who make words into what they are not. It's a corruption of literature(there you go Rhi).

Yes, those are good pictures Rhi. You should be proud. I don't like mine, they made me take off my hat. I felt ....naked. gasp, they were taking pictures of me without my hat, it almost broke the camera. Really it did, there was a big bright spark and everything. Though maybe that was the flash...

It's a corruption of literature(there you go Rhi).

Hear hear. Even if the definition of a 'live' language is one that continues to evolve with use (which is why Latin is dead, and French is practically dead since they're so dead set on preserving it exactly as it is), must being alive mean a descent in to the gutter? </eloquence>

Yes, those are good pictures Rhi. You should be proud.
Thank you, thank you...

*gasp* They made you take off your hat? Oh, horrors!

Good luck getting your sleep schedule worked out, Kaia! Mine's not so hard- I pre-registered, so my earliest class is at 11am :D Lucky me! But you know what I read that helped me when I was trying to get more sleep; if you lie in bed for half an hour and can't sleep, get up. Do something until you feel tired again, and then go back to bed. Because I do a lot of reading in bed, I'll get in absolutely exhausted and then once I'm there my brain will wake up and refuse to shut. up.

My problem is waking up. I sleep REALLY deep(may have to get that pic up here...maybe not). It's really hard for me to wake up but once I'm up I am ok. But once I'm up I can't go back to sleep which really stinks on days that I don't have to get up.

Bran, having in mind my experience with my brother (who is THE deepest sleeper in the world) I can say that it's much worse for people who have to wake you up in the morning. It was impossible. I was always late because of it. My morning began with screaming and fighting. He just never woke up in time plus was extremely agressive. So!

I'll wake up, It just takes a little bit. I usually can't sleep for real long periods of time, I usually automatically wake up by myself at around 8 hours of sleep. Unless I'm dead tired, then I might go to around 10. But if I wake myslef up I can't go back to sleep. I do like to slightly wake up though. I've found that in that state I can control my dreams, It's weird, I know. But it is fun.

I've controlled my dream in the middle of the night once. It is said that only a very small percentage of people can do it and they have to be extremly intelligent(or insane, I can't remember which). It was kinda like the Yellow Submarine movie where nothing really made sense, but was still fun. I was tired when I woke up in the morning, like I didn't have any sleep(since I had to use my brain to control where I went and what I did). I was so tired I haven't wanted to do it again but I might try soon. When I'm not doing anything the next day, maybe.

Does it mean something? Am I suddenly less mad or less intelligent? (For both: would it be bad news or good news?)

Yes.

You decide which one I answered to. It might make you more intelligent or more insane. But the choice is up to you...

Also I've added John to my list of surrogate siblings. :) Interestingly enough he's also my backup-backup-husband.
You know...in case things don't work out, I'm not married by 35 and my backup husband is. :)

Course if John's already married then I've got a backup-backup-backup...

Problem is if things didn't work out with Snaga...I wouldn't even have any interest in any other husbands...:( I'd be too sad.

My backups would be so disappointed! :) (Disappointed should be read as: "Immensely relieved") :)

Backup husbands... have you been watching Friends lately?:D

Wonko The Sane
09-10-2003, 10:20 PM
Actually yes. :) That's where I got the idea.
They're not REALLY backup husbands.
It's just a joke I have with my male friends.
I told them they were all my backup husbands and it was this big competition with them to be higher up than one another on the list.
Not that they want to marry me...or even fancy me...just that they think it's kind of disgraceful to be bakup husband number 5. ;)

Wonko The Sane
09-12-2003, 01:23 AM
I knew why you were rolling your eyes, Roxie. :)
I also chose not to bring up the old argument. ;)

And anyway, those boys don't have any interest in me...but they do have an internal competition over which one is hotter...so they all want to be backup number one...not to win me...but to beat the others.

'Tis true!

OK here goes.... I've seen pictures here of some of you outcasts, so I think it's only fair that I post a pic. of me. Here I am dressed as Dracula with a couple of my minions.

Wonko The Sane
09-13-2003, 05:14 AM
Hehe. TEENY pic. :)
But that's funny to me.
Who are your minions? (not who are they but who are they dressed as)

Sador
09-13-2003, 05:16 AM
Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood.

Wonko The Sane
09-13-2003, 08:02 AM
Aaaah...I got the LRRH...but Rapunzel...that one threw me. I always thought she was blonde! :)

Sador
09-13-2003, 08:34 AM
That is because the original Fairy tale has been so distorted over the years.
Shame about the size of the pic. The bloke who scanned it did it in a hurry or something.

Wonko The Sane
09-13-2003, 11:33 AM
Really? The original Rapunzel was a brunette?

Wow...interesting...

Sador
09-14-2003, 04:36 AM
Yes I blame Walt Disney and his master-race propaganda.

Rhiannon
09-14-2003, 05:37 AM
Wow, Sador...you bear a disturbing resemblance to my pastor.

I don't think the original Repunzel's hair color was specified, actually. I should look that up...

Sador
09-14-2003, 05:43 AM

I think it's disturbing that your pastor dresses like Dracula.

Dragon

um....

I don' think disney ever did anything on rapunzel...

but I do think it's very likely that sum1 would change it to blonde, and I hate how so many ppl want to b blonde and think blonds have more fun, and "fieldgoal the blonde"   :o

Rhiannon

Disney never did Repunzel. But they're evil anyway.

Barbie did Repunzel! Augh, just kill me!

Something like light brown I think... But it was red a long long time ago (it started getting darker when I was two)...I wish I still had red hair.

Red hair is fun. :D Hmm...well, even if you eventually turned brown, Arebeth, you were originally a redhead, so that's good enough for me. :)

Wow, you know what, from that angle and the one that's close-up on your face in the photo album, you look a lot like someone I know. I think it's the cut of your hair and the shape of your face...hmm. Well, anyway, I'm glad you won! :)

No kidding, Bran. What's a girl to do? My real brother went to college and for all intents and purposes forgot I existed and then had a painful break up with is girlfriend, developed a martyr complex, and wants me to be his second when he commits seppuku (NO), and my other adopted brother...well, I kinda-sorta told him that he isn't really in love with the girl (close friend of mine) that he's been focusing all his affections on for some time (and he really isn't...).

Kailita
10-18-2003, 01:27 AM
Oh gosh, Rhi...not a good situation to be in...

Bran, you'll have to start doing your job as older brother to even out all this confusion. Hustle, hustle! I only have enough personality to fill up one role in the family...and I doubt I would make a good brother even if I tried.:D
