I just finally rented Spirited Away- it's an anime movie- and it's, as my sister says, 'pretty darn weird'- and I loved it. It's awesome. I was disappointed when I realized I'd gotten a video with dubbing, but the dubbing is actually really good (as a general rule, I hate dubbing).

*is so excited*
People who love the same movies as me!!!!!
Pricess Bride- Inego Montoya: "Hey Feszig(sp?) are there rocks ahead?" Feszig: "If there are we'll all be dead." Stop rhyming I mean it!" Feszig: "Anybody want a peanut." I think I've watched it close to 100 times literally.
SpaceBalls- Barf: "I'm a mog, half man, half dog, I'm my own best friend." Funny, funny movie.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I loved that movie but can't seem to find it anywhere.
Young Frankenstein: What knockers! Oh sank you doctor. It's a recent favorite of mine finally found it.
I loved Willow but tis another I can't seem to find.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail: NI! NI! (if only they knew what a shrubbery used to mean in old english, actually I think they did making it all the more funnier)
I've seen the first two tremor movies and have seen an episode of the tv series.
I've seen all the TMNT movies.
Has anyone else seen the pest with john leguizamo?

I saw Bowling For Collumbine the other day. Loved it. Mike Moore can sometimes go for the soft target and he uses some of the same tabloid techniques as the people he is criticising, but I believe he has a worthwhile message and he tells it in an entertaining way. Five stars from me.
Adaptation was another good one about a writer trying to write a screenplay based on a book about flowers.
Mindy_O_Lluin

Sador, I agree about both of those movies. Two of my favs from last year.
BranMuffin - I didn't see 'The Pest', but John Leguizamo was hilarious in Spawn (which I liked very much - and I'm not even a comic book hero fan.)
Anyone see Whale Rider yet? (Made in NZ) Take some hankies.
YayGollum
07-13-2003, 02:46 AM
I haven't. How many people ride whales? Anyways, yes, that dude's character was achingly cool in Spawn. How could anyone like the hero in that story anyways?

I liked his cloak. Your avatar reminds me of it. PJ used the same special effect in LOTR to a minor degree. Plus, the character was pitiable and gainded my sympathy. And the clown was great!

I watched Dreamcatcher with a friend today. I was so-o terribly dissapointed. They ruined everything with that worldsaving stuff. After poor Jason Lee was gently removed I was bored. It wasn't even scary anymore. So promising in the beginning:(

I've seen it twice 2! I love kid movies!!! actually, that wasn't much of a kids movie, it just looked like one, all the little kids were crying bc of the sharks and stuff the first time I saw it...by the second time, everyone who wanted 2 c it had already seen it:rolleyes: :o
Rhiannon
08-10-2003, 01:08 AM
Nemo was great fun!
I saw Freaky Friday yesterday with my friend and some of her friends for her birthday...I wouldn't have gone otherwise, but it was pretty cute. Just...not my type of movie.
Other movies I've seen recently; Castle in the Sky, anime by the guy that made Spirited Away- not as awesome as Spirited Away, but still good- and Dogma, which had some gross moments and massive amounts of profanity, but was also interesting and thought provoking while still being stupid and full ove uber-geekiness.
Talierin
08-10-2003, 01:20 AM
Yeah, Freaky Friday was fairly good... at least it actually had some decent music and no pop in it

I wanted to see Spirited Away. Haven't had a chance yet.
But I did finally see The Matrix. Oooh.;) I felt all weirded out for a little bit afterwards, but it was mostly pretty good. If you're into that kind of surreal sci-fi. ;)

Ick. No. It's way too achingly popular for me. Don't be a sheep! *runs away*
Annushka

Does this mean you only watch UNpopular movies? Though I know what you mean. When people talk about something all the time I get bored and have no wish to be a part of it.
I missed Matrix though.
Rhiannon
08-11-2003, 07:15 PM
I thought The Matrix was great, but I haven't watched it in...um, years. I didn't like the second one.
I loved Spirited Away. Kaia, you must watch it!
Now we have The Princess Bride going in the background and we keep shouting out dialogue :D
YayGollum
08-11-2003, 08:30 PM
No, I don't just watch unpopular movies. I watch what I think might be interesting. I don't wait to see what's unpopular before I watch it. Craziness. I just said that about Matrix type things because it seems to me to be that they are now modern cult classics. Change is scary.

... cry?
I loved it, but it wasn't a.... cryable IMO
Rhiannon
08-17-2003, 06:52 PM
Well, I didn't do any crying this time...
But I am a sucker for animated movies. The only movies I've ever cried over had been animated...Toy Story...Toy Story 2...Rugrats....Rugrats in Paris....Monsters, Inc....Holy cow, I'm a mess.
Kailita
08-17-2003, 09:28 PM
Oh, I don't know, it was the whole father-son relationship thing that got me. And when they showed Jim's real father leaving...oh, it was just sad.
I cry easily over movies, but rarely on animated ones. I did cry on Toy Story 2...Monsters Inc, too, even though I was trying so hard not to. Never saw the Rugrats movies.
Rhiannon
08-17-2003, 09:55 PM
oh yesh, of course...
What gets me is anyone being left behind or forgotten or split up, especially when it's got a soundtrack that just...*sniff* just....*sniff sniff* Okay, never mind.
But I really loved Delbert ("You know what they say, familiarity breeds....well, contempt.") and I loved the captain, even before I knew she was voiced by Emma Thompson ("To blather about a treasure map in front of this particular crew respresents a level of incompetence bordering on the imbicilice- and I mean that in a very caring way." "Doctor, again, with the utmost respect, zip your howling screamer.")
Kailita
08-17-2003, 10:15 PM
*Giggles* Yes, I loved the captain, too. "Let me make this as monosyllabic as possible...I don't much care for this crew that you hired. They're...how did I describe them, Arrow? I said something rather good this morning before coffee..."
"A ludicrous parsel of drivveling galoots, ma'am."
"There you go, poetry."
And you've got to love her boots. All the way up to her thighs. ;)
I loved the music also. And Jim was just so cute. :)
Rhiannon

You know...I've never seen Apollo 13 all the way through! Anything Jane Austen is good. But Sense and Sensibility is good.

I've never seen Apollo 13, period. Hmm. Will have to put that one on my list.
Alan Rickman = swoon :D
Sense and Sensibility is my second favorite by Jane Austen, and Emma a close third...but my favorite will always be Pride and Prejudice. :) That could be because I read it first...but I really do love the characters. And this is a legitimate post, because those three books are movies as well, and excellent movies at that. :)
Talierin
08-18-2003, 06:45 AM
It's most excellent! I have no idea how they filmed it though, but they did a really good job on it.... gots Tom Hanks (yay!), Kevin Bacon (yay!), and, er, another guy I don't know...
I seriously have no idea how they ever managed to get the real Apollo 13 back to earth.... blows me away
BranMuffin

*Laughs at the swooners*
Duh, they were rocket scientists, Tal.
It was a good movie though. Maybe you and Mac can watch it when you come down here, along with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I recently saw Kangaroo Jack, Amistad, and Just Married(again).
It was the first time I've ever seen Amistad and I have to say that it was REALLY good. It had my two favorite actors in it Anthony Hopkins and Morgan Freeman. And the guy who just played in "How to loose a guy in 10 days". Very good historical information and even had a part where they presented the Gospel(sort of). No wonder it won so many awards.
Kagaroo Jack was funny but not that funny, it was really kid-ish.
Just married was pretty funny, too. But had some stuff that I don't really care much for.
Rhiannon
08-18-2003, 09:24 PM
Oh yeah, Amistad is an awesome film. Very intense, and Anthony Hopkins was great in it. *needs to rent again*
Alan Rickman = swoon
Hear hear! *thud*
Sense and Sensibility is my second favorite by Jane Austen, and Emma a close third...but my favorite will always be Pride and Prejudice. That could be because I read it first...but I really do love the characters. And this is a legitimate post, because those three books are movies as well, and excellent movies at that.
I think P&P will always be my favorite ('Fwah, that Mr. Darcy!'), but I adore Persuasion ('Fwah, that Admiral Wentworth!') and I'm loving Emma (Mr. Knightly is so going to be haremed), and I loved what I read of S&S, but that was during the move and the book got lost, and I haven't had a chance to go back to it. *Laughs at the swooners*
Why is it that guys don't seem to have literary harems? All the girls I know- or most of them at least- can name book guys they think are swoon worthy, but when I asked my brother he had to think real hard before he came up with Mara Jade from the Star Wars universe. What? No takers for Beatrice? Or Lizzie? Elanor? Jane Eyre? Anybody? At least I know a guy who loves Eowyn...surely there's hope.
Talierin

I just saw Phonebooth and Final Destination 2 last night.
Phonebooth is the type of movies I like pshyco suspense trillers. It was really good and I always have been a fan of snipers.
Final Destination 2 was good, too. It tied in a lot with the first so if you haven't seen it see it first. It was pretty gory though so if you don't like blood and guts don't watch it.
Annushka
08-19-2003, 07:27 PM
Last night I finally went to see Terminator 3!!! I absolutely loved it. The story is amazing. And I loved the references to the original ones.
I really wanna watch Phonebooth. It sounds very promising. Do you know that they shot in 12 days?
I've seen the 1st Final destination. I like that actor, can't remember his name. He's not in the 2nd one right?
BranMuffin
08-19-2003, 10:34 PM
Yeah, shure, he's not in there I don't know which guy you are talking about but shure. Well actually that works because none of the actors from the first movie made it to the second.
Nope, I didn't know that they shot that in 12 days. Good info.
I haven't seen T3, yet.
Annushka
08-20-2003, 07:19 AM
I really didn't specify which actor? Sleepy me!
Why, did the characters die between the films? Or they just wanted new faces for the 2nd one?
BranMuffin
08-20-2003, 02:53 PM
The main character died between films but it showed somewhat how he died in the second movie. Everyone else died in the last movie except for the two main people the guy and the girl. So the only person from the first movie who is in the second is the girl....and death is still after her, too.
Annushka
08-20-2003, 07:24 PM
OK, I got it! I liked that actor. Pity they decided to go without him.
Anyway, YAY, finally, Pirates of the Caribbean are in theatres in Yerevan!
BranMuffin
08-22-2003, 02:50 PM
That is a good movie. Jonny Depp played his character really good. Then there was Orlando Bloom...well I do have to say that being in LOTR has made him a decent sword fighter.
Rhiannon
08-22-2003, 08:30 PM
hen there was Orlando Bloom...well I do have to say that being in LOTR has made him a decent sword fighter.
...but his over-hand grip on that sabre was driving me nuts. Excellent way to get your hand sliced up, and you can't parry effectively. Come to think of it, Catherine Zeta-Jones had the same problem in The Mask of Zorro. But she was scantily clad, so it was less of a problem.
Pirates is great fun, Shush! You'll enjoy it.

I definitely agree. (I saw it in a plane going to Tokyo between X-menē-not so bad, I love Kurt...- and some Japanese movie about people killing themselves for strange reasons...)
I've just seen Ed Wood, it's really good. But, it says it was a comedy, and I cried more than I laughed. (Why do I always think about it when the situation is NOT the same?... But the reason is pretty obvious...). Speaking of Tim Burton's works, I like Sleepy Hollow, too (some good moments in it) and Mars Attacks!Nice planet. We'll take it! But I don't know what Happened to him on Planet of the Apes. Didn't even saw the whole movie. And, well, I like Moulin Rouge, too (oops...sorry for that...), plus... Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (Don't ask me why...DON'T), Pirates of the Carribeans was great, Star Wars(...),Dangerous liaisons (well, I don't know the title, but ... Les Liaisons dangereuses, in French. Good book, too. By Choderlos de Laclos)I'm forgetting most of them...
And a lot of old movies I'd probably love if I just could find the DVD's.
OBVIOUSLY, LOTR movies, but I suppose I don't even have to say that.
Rhiannon
08-24-2003, 08:42 PM
And, well, I like Moulin Rouge, too (oops...sorry for that...)
I think it's an absolute drug trip and I think the plot is nonsense, but I love it because it's BIG. It's on that HUGE, MASSIVE, DRAMATIC SCALE which I love so very very much. Just like...
... Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (Don't ask me why...DON'T)
LOVE all of Kenneth Branaugh's Shakespeare adaptions; I just finally saw Henry V last night (excellent- and I personally found the large battle scene to be more wrenching than almost anything else I've seen to date, including Braveheart, which seems to be the standard now). Adore Hamlet (especially the statue/sword thing at the beginning- the scchk noise makes my sister jump three feet every single time, even when she knows it's coming, it's hysterical), and Much Ado About Nothing (Emma Thompson rules and the set is incredible and the score is awesome. It's practically a perfect film). Love's Labours Lost was good too, but I didn't love it as much as the others- the musical numbers were interesting...but I think in retrospect they didn't seque enough, or something.

Oh yes he can... When the soundrack came out I was listening to it all the time (I think I still know some of the songs by heart. I LOVE Elephant love medley and Your Song by Ewan McGregor.)
Another thing I like about it is that Nicole Kidman is very pale in this movie (or maybe she's all the time?) and so am I, so since Moulin Rouge I'm less ashamed of it (it means: now I can stand the "You never go on holiday or what" kind of remark). Which is a good thing.

I love Batman the Animated Series. Love love love. I also watched Ironman and the Fantastic Four. I never did think much of Superman, though. The spit curl is kind of a turn-off.
I felt like that about Chicago too, Bran. I liked it for the music, but that's about it (meaning I have the soundtrack, so I never need to watch it again). I didn't care for the costumes, the cinamatography, the choreography, or the plot; they made a huuuge mistake in trying to make Roxie a sympathetic character. These famous, idolized people are nasty, that's the point!

Chicago...eh. The music was great. Similar to Moulin Rouge. Except here's the thing that, for me, put Moulin Rouge way way way above Chicago. Moulin Rouge was about love and sacrifice and beautiful things (freedom, beauty, truth...). Chicago was all betrayal and no characters that you could really love and feel for.

i hated moulin!!!!!!
chicago was my favorite!!!!!
i went to see it 3 or four times
i still need to go buy it tho
unlike other musicals it didnt have an evil singing moon that was preparing to take over the world by shifting its orbit thus causing masive floods throughout major cities acros the world

I finally saw Chicago. It's obviously a good movie but really, nothing to do with Moulin Rouge. Moulin Rouge was the kind of movie which
-has a silly story (I admit it)
-uses well-known songs to touch people
-is maybe... a little too much...
-isn't credible for a second (Nothing seems French and Kidman is really too classy to play a Moulin Rouge dancer, if you ask me, but she's just great)
But I love it! And apparently I'm not the only one. That's what's wonderful. Chicago is... well... more forgettable (if the word exists).
Ps: Plus, Ewan Mc Gregor sings. That's enough for me.

Yeah I spent about 5 hours watching TTT and then the extra features. I especially liked seeing an Urukai dancing and singing Karaoke. Funny stuff.

I watched the Pirates at last! It was fun, but I think without Johnny Depp it wouldn't be half as fun. He's really amazing. Can you imagine anybody else in his place?
And I was so sorry for Jeffry Rush. The poor guy had just come back to life to say good-bye to it for good. So sad:eek:

Who did he play again?

Whom do you mean?:)
Jeffry (I've no idea how to spell his name) Rush was the main bad pirate. The one that betrayed Capitan Jack Sparrow who was played by Johnny Depp:D

I understand. I'm always so sad when the villains die -as they often do- in the end. I don't know why but I've always had a real problem with bad guys in movies.

Eeeeee! Johnny Depp! :D
He was truly amazing - and hilarious - in that movie. I loved his confidence...and his semi-drunken, couple-waves-short-of-a-full-tide swagger. :D That really made the movie. I love the part (SPOILER AHEAD) when he's on the island with Elizabeth, and she's burning all the rum.
"Why the rum?"
"Because it's a vile drink and makes even the most gentlemanly of men into complete scoundrels..." etc, etc...
*Pause Pause Pause as Johnny Depp slowly processes her copious words, blinks, then says with infinite wisdom...*
"But why the rum?"
Or something to that extent. :D

i thaught he looked gay...so after the movie i was acting like a gay pirate and i was wearing Ds braclets so it added to the effect....amy has pictures, theyre very interesting,i never realized how gay i can look.....
Kailita

Not gay. Anyone else would have looked gay...but not Johnny Depp. He could pull it off. :) Kooky, quirky, offbeat, yes; but not gay. And the eyeliner was great.

I am a Johnny Depp fan since Ed Wood. And some people just seem to realise now that he's a great actor.
Anyway, I just saw "Shadow of the Vampire", a movie about Murnau filming Nosferatu. It was interesting. Malkovich is definitely excellent. The vampire looks just a little too much like a rat to me... But it's on purpose...

I saw Spy Kids 3d at the drive-in last night (along with Pirates and Freaky Friday), and IT HAD ELIJAH WOOD IN IT! I started laughing my head off when he showed up! Of course, his scene is really short and it ends tragically, but gosh, it was so funny!
As for the movie, it was ok. The 3d stuff kinda hurt my eyes... I would have worn the 3d glasses for it, but they didn't work too well and were worse to actually watch the movie in... the movie is somewhat entertaining up till like the last 10 mins, where it went from "ok" to "stupid"

Most recent movie I've seen:
I went to see American Wedding with my friend...I know I said that earlier...
And I've decided I didn't like it. I hate EVERYTHING to do with weddings...
I'm really really scared of planning mine. :(

Easy solution ---> Don't get married. Remember that love is bad. Too risky. You can have all kinds of fun without it. Not much to do with movies, but oh well. just being helpful.

Dear Yay,
I'm getting married.
Sorry.
The End.
Love,
Wonks
Just because it's stressful to plan a wedding doesn't mean the wedding should be called off.
You shouldn't order me to not get married like that. Just cos you don't like love doesn't mean you should force your opinions on other people...

When did I order anyone to do anything? There must be something wrong with me for not being able to remember that. *looks back at his post* No, I'm right. I didn't order anyone to do anything. sorry about that. I was just being helpful by tossing the easy solution at you.

Yes, it was a mistake. You only quoted part of my post. The other part just said that it was the easy solution. Maybe my language is just so forceful and commanding that you took it the wrong way. It's a suggestion. The best one, actually.

THAT'S what infuriates me. The fact that you think your solutions are "best"...
What's best for you is NOT necessarily best for me. And don't even TRY to presume you know what IS best for me.
*Humph*

*Fears for Yay's safety*
Wonks is in love. It is very dangerous to question that love especially by other people and even more so by those who don't really know how it feels to be in love.
It is unwise to come between two that are in love. For one it is not very nice, and two there is two of them... not very good odds for one person.
*Pats Wonks on head*
It will be ok. Snags will take care of you, and you know that.
Ok back to the movies: I went to Rock the Universe on Friday night with MacAddict and the rest of the Youth group. They had a newer ride: Shrek 4-D, fun stuff its a movie playing in 3-D and the chairs move a little along with other things that go on throught the movie such as the Dragon sneezing and water spraying the audience.
We also went to the MIB Alien Attack ride. MacAddict beat my score though...190,550 to 115,400. Oh well. I guess I shoudln't have been shooting him the whole time. But can you blame me? You were supposed to shoot the aliens...

I was wondering where that hole in the side of my head came from :D. And I whooped your score! even though Orwell beat us all by 150,000 for a total of some 300,000 evil he is.
