Should I see TTT?

I had pretty much resolved to not see The Two Towers, or see it a year after RotK came out. This idea was made stronger by WM's pushing me to see it, but much more so by a guy in my AP Computer Science Class who seemed to think that I would see it, and not admit it.

Being a moderator of The Tolkien Forum, one of, if not the largest Tolkien bulletin boards on the internet, some feel that I should see the movie. However, I will leave this decision up to you.

Now, mind you, if I do see it, I will likely have My God, It was Horrible! Part II. You can see Part I here (http://www.thetolkienforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1191). My next version, if it will be, will have a bit more self control, but probably just as angry.

I'm making you all read down to here so that you know my situation, and don't vote before you know. If you think I should not see the movie, vote for choice number one. If you think I should see the movie, vote the second, number two.

Oh, yeah. I'm going to show this to the guy in my AP Computer Science class to prove how my decision is being made, not that I'm falling to a weakness. So, please vote either one or two by around 1:30PM December 17th, 2002 EST (DST), the same as 5:30PM December 17th, 2002 GMT (DST).

When you vote, post a reply with your voting choice so that I know the poll has not been editted. After 1:30PM EST, I will prune the thread, and so that no one will be charged with spamming.

I voted that you should see it. You may not particularly enjoy it, but at least if you've seen it you can post your opinions on the many heated threads I'm sure will pop up on here once everyone sees the movie. ;) You wouldn't be able to do that if you waited a couple of years to see it.

The only person in the world I'd tell to not see these films is someone with a weak imagination who has not read the books yet. I think it is a little silly for anyone who has read the book to not see it on principle.

I vote that you should see it. Why? Because then you will have a solid foundation when joining the various threads that no doubt will pop up in the Forum.

I voted no, don't see it. You hated the first film and you seem pretty sure you'll hate this one as well. No need to put yourself through that. Read a book instead.

You have to see it. At least make an informed decision like the last time. You never know, you might enjoy it!

It will be just as horrible (or whatever) in two years' time!

I voted no because since you say that you don't want to see it I must support you. I say that all should hold to their opinion and intention to see or not see something. I was thinking of not seeing them but hey if I got stuck at the movie with the first one and have you said a you have to say b (maybe it is c to get the extended edition dvd but).

No. I voted 'don't see it.' I'd like to see you try. I agree with your AP classmate, I think curiousity will get the better of you and you'll see it anyway, and not admit to it.

I also think it'd be cool if you could wait until RoTK came out and see them both at once. That'd be an interesting perspective.

I said you should go see it; you should at least give it a fair chance. But I guess I am already too late?

See it soon. Whats the worst that could happen besides you making a new hate thread for the movie:)

I think you should definitely see it. If anything, if it is as bad as the first one, it will encourage and motivate you to create your own interpretation of the movie later to do things your way; to not make the same mistakes that PJ did.

Well, Beorn. You know my opinion on the movies, so hopefully my opinion has a bit more clout. I vote go see it. Yes, you will hate the changes and especially the character alterations that have robbed Tolkien's wonderful characters, as will I....But the parts that ARE true to Tolkien will be a sight to see. I'm thinking specifically of Gollum and Helm's Deep. This is a movie that needs to be seen on the big screen.

Go for it...You and I will see it, and you and I will rake PJ through the coals together after it is all said and done...The dwarf and the shape changer. Down with PJ! ;)

C'mon, Beorn, you have to see it - I will - and afterward, all the loyal purists on the forum can join together and cut PJ and his crud-fantasy to shreds! :D

I'd say go and see it, it's just a movie, it won't bite. For me, LotR is not going to be spoiled by techniques not even half as old as the true story. And in this case, not even as old as me.:)

I think you should see it because you are one of the highest people in TTF so if you are ever faced with a question you will know what to answer, or at the very least know what they are talking about.

Here's my view on the whole ordeal:

I just got back from seeing it about two hours ago. I thought it was brilliant, and liked it a stretch more than the first one. I think this one was more serious in relation to the first one, and I think it was done better, as well.
Then again, I thought the first one was quite good (until I saw this one) and I saw FotR about 7 times in theatres. (I'm crazy, I know, I've been told.)
Now, here's where I start getting even *more* indecisive about this. The first one...well, I saw how you reacted to it...just make sure I'm not in the room if/when you get back from the second one...:D

I think you should wait until RotK comes out, and then you can see them all together, and we can have a complain-fest! (In all serious-ness, I have a bone or twenty to pick with Mr. Peter Jackson.)

Now, I am, however, quite thankful that I actually have a Lord of the Rings trilogy that I can go see in movie theaters. I'm a big enough fan where I don't completely obsess over the movies as if they were my whole world, but I'm not going to refuse to see them just because it's not a 35-hour NBC special that is true to every aspect of the book.

To sum up, my vote is no. Don't see it until Return of the King comes out...if then, even.

Sorry, forgot to unsticky it.

But, I was threatened into doing it...WM said 'See it, or else ;)'
