My Theory is that Hobbits were created as a 3rd child/Children of Ilúvatar, i think that the other two children (being physically stronger and able to fight rather well) when they had prepared the earth and made it safer then Ilúvatar awoke them (he obvioulsy knew about how Melkor would cause all this trouble as he knew all the histories futures etc). and Ilúvatar kept the Hobbits secret from the Valar, and he awoke them when he saw fit (there wasnt a chosen time)! That is why they were never spoken of!!!

Well, that's interesting as atheory and a point of view.
I haven't considered a lot why hobbits aren't spoken a lot but my general explanation is that they do not make any attention with their height and appearance so people and elves didn't think they would have played an important history part.
But I don't think they were created in the same time as the First and the Second born children. If it was so Tolkien would have mentioned that, wouldn't he?I think it would be a very important fact so he wouldn't have missed to write it somewhere in the books of Middle-earth and the ones about hobbits as well.

Look as ive said on other threads Hobbits were made when one man and one dwarf got together to make the hobbit race like when one elf (luthien) and one man (beren) got together to make the half-elven race

so u think a dwarve and man had a baby?! it wouldnt work, and where did the hairy feet come in and Hobbits contain none of the traits of man or dwarve!

the hairy and leathery feet was transplanted from the dwarve's face downwards:)

Hobbits are more closely related to man than drawfs. They like and dislike the similar things. I would have to say that it is just a race of man that is smaller, or something like that.
Edit: Read the prolog to lotr and it explains how man and hobbit are more like each other.

It is impossible to trace the geneology of an entire race down to two people of differant races coming together to create a child that is impossible! It would have to be 100s of Men and 100s of Dwarves coming together to create an intire race of Hobbits!

Or perhaps the race of hobbits went through the gene pools of all the other good races like Elves? and Ents?

Who knows?:)

I knows. I've said it many times over here. Orcs come from elves. Goblins are smaller orcs. Hobgoblins are smaller goblins. Some of them became nice so they turned into hobbitses. Makes all kinds of sense. That's why Gollum calls them nasssty.
