And also what art medium do you really want to learn and develop your skills into
Also, what's your favorite art medium to view, IE, do you prefer oil over pencils and etc
I'm best at pencils and charcoal for that i have been using it ever since! i am not all that experienced with color! getting into color pencils tho. ;)

Ooo I know what you mean! I use my mouse too, but it's an optical mouse, so it's not *too* bad, but I still want a tablet really bad! I'm getting better with the mouse, at least.

Digital Art. That to me is Manipulating multiple images that i have drawn (i don't draw with pen or pebcil much its just not a skill i have but i can drawn with a trackpad quite well) or photographed and combine them into a bizzarly different thing that you could never have imagined what the origanal photos looked like. But my strong point lies in Digital Video (Btw is this considered and Art Medium?)

Best medium = pencil
Best to look at = pencil
BEST = PENCIL, OK??
joking!:p nah, I'm only good at pencil cuz it's easy! But I'm working on paints, and then I use gouache. It's like a mix between water and oils.... it can be like either. I try!
I did a thing in art class with oil pastels and that was quite cool too. But it's soo messy!
And I dig computer art, but I'm a bit of an idiot with the computer! *Doesn't know what a tablet is... cringes*:(
:D

tablet is a computer pen. You use this pen on a special board and whatever you draw on the board shows up on the monitor. Sort of like a mouse. ;)
have you seen J.D. Hillberry's pencils works? dang they are SO real. i got a book by him :D, how to (Draw Realistic Textures in Pencil).

Graphite is my fav. medium to work with. Fav. To look at is either well done graphite or very colorful things. I love looking at acrylics, but not watercolours, they seem so washed out to me.

Oh! And my fav. Graphite artist is a dude, I forget his name, but he did "The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" and "The Gardens of Alazarin" or something like that. Go look those up, they are incredible!

The most amazing art I've seen is this guy who used just pencil and charcoal, and only using straight vertical lines created these wonderful African landscapes! The tone and everything were perfect. For example one picture was a barbed wire fence obviously on a farm somewhere in Africa, (leaning over etc) and a gatepost, with a background of hills and mountains.
Ah, how I wish I was good!

If you want good results working with a tablet, there is nothing better then a WACOM.
I myself use pen and ink, then scan and color it in photoshop.
For reference sake, here's a link to one of my works:

I'm new here, but I'm just going to put my two cents in... :)
I'm not really into digital art and such, I tend to have a more traditional view of what I like... Personally, my best medium to work with is pencil- for portraits. Landscapes, I've worked a lot with pastel... unfortunately, I don't have a way to scan any of those in, they're all rather large. (Soft pastel- I can't seem to get the hang of oil)
I also really like watercolor. I've been taking these great private classes with a woman here (where I live :) ) who is AMAZING. Now that I think of it, I wonder if there is some way I can find any of her stuff online...she's an absolute genius with watercolor- I doubt any of you have heard of her, unless you're from my area... which I doubt you are. :p
My favorite kind of art, however, is Impressionism; the masters. Monet, Degas- those two especially. I've also recently discovered a black/white photographer who I find amazing... Brassai. (that's with an umlaut over the I, but my keyboard doesn't do those....) I don't know if any of you have ever seen his stuff, but he has this one picture that takes my breath away: "Les Escaliers de Montmarte" Gorgeous.
Anyway, I tend to ramble on and on, and it looks like I'm doing that yet again. So I think I'm going to end this now... ;)

If you like black and white photography, I would reccomend Ansel Adams. He's a master. There's a lovely cafe in the town next to mine that has huge prints of his photos all over the walls.

Another good thing... If you have a scanner of couse, is to draw a B/W and scan it in then color it on PSP it really will inhance the quality of your picture.

Yes, I know Ansel Adams... Brassai, however, does some amazing shots of Paris... gorgeous. The one I love it at night- it's fantastic. :D

Brassai? I can look.... I found a poster of one of his pictures in a local store... but I'll see...
It's more of a poster site, but you can enlarge the images- they're some of his better ones (http://www.postercheckout.com/PictureGroup.asp?ArtistID=906)

I saw the Brassai ones- they are marvelous- his style leans more towards urban scenes, but Ansel Adams does nature, usually, here's a link to his posters- http://www.postercheckout.com/PictureGroup.asp?SearchString=Ansel+Adams&SubmitForm=Go

The link was for Lossen Vana, in case she was talking about A.A. instead of B. Or both- but I do really like Brosai's work- I just finished clicking about on the site. ;)
