There must be other sources for soldiers than the general population. Now, giving illegal aliens citizenship in exchange for military service works for me. Of course, some special groups already come with uniforms:
"Since the Roman Catholic church became embroiled in a sex abuse scandal a year ago, more than 1,200 priests in nearly every diocese in America have been accused of sexually abusing children, The New York Times reported."
There's 1200 guys who would probably fare better on the front lines than prison.

We don't need a draft of any kind. Our military is extremely specialized, and modern warfare isn't charging a line of soldiers at another line anymore...we have troops that are trained to do a specific job, and generally it's to support a weapons platform.
Now if you wanted to use conscripts to run through a minefield and clear it for other vehicles, that's about the only use they'd have...the draft is a stupid idea, especially this day in age.

Soon, every air craft will be unmaned. And we won't need soldiers, for anything more than going in and cleaning up.

Freedom, I don't know about that happening anytime soon. Especcially because of the BILLIONS we have spent on develeping manned aircraft such as the F22.
The draft is only neccesary during extreme war time need. And most often the draft is met by enthusiasm from people who whish to serve their country, as in WW2. Vietnam though is an exception.
Why isn't the general population enough? I mean, you don't think 250 million people is enough of a rescource pool? Besides, ever since the Clinton addministration the military has been cut in half. Less and less soldiers are needed to run an affective army. Since we probably aren't going to get involved in a massive land war, ( like invading russia) anytime soon.
