The Adventures Of Tom Bombadil is a book of poetry, and tells us virtually nothing that we don't already know about ME. The History of Middle-earth (HoME) is edited by Christopher Tolkien, and includes the History Of The Lord Of The Rings (Volumes 6-9) and the Later Quenta Silmarillion (Volumes 10-11). Questions about the HoME are probably best addressed to the HoME section of the forum.

Note that the 'Road Goes Ever On' was published before his death too. There are also varying short-stories, some are not linked with M-E at all, some slightly. (Smith and Wooton Major and Roverandrom have a slight link to Aman. In the case of Smith I am not sure, but I think 'Faery' is Aman. 'Faery' was the word used for Aman in The Hobbit.) Whenver 'Faery' is described it seems to match, IMO, Aman's description, to a extent, though you must remember that these are childrens stories. Roverandrom, Smith of Wooton Major the Tales of Tom Bombadil (various poems), Leaf by Niggle, and Farmer Giles of Ham are in a single volume named Tales of the Perilous Realm

only one that really explains any fuzzy bits in LoTR is Unfinished Tales, the other ones are really "history books", they explain how Tolkien wrote huis mythology and contain the earlier versions of the story, most of them completely unrecognizable compared to the finished version. but theres a lot of stuff on the net about Middle-earth, you should definitely check out www.thelordoftherings.com

I have not, to date, been able to find a complete list of all the published works of J.R.R. Tolkien himself, PLUS a few others pertaining to Middle-Earth or LOTR than can be recommended for their quality, but not necessarily by Tolkien himself. If anyone has a link to a list or can post one, it would be most appreciated.
Thank you.

Great, but which ones are worth reading?
I suggest you read these (in this order):
- The Hobbit
- The Lord of the Rings
- The Silmarillion
- Unfinished Tales (whilst re-reading LotR and The Sil)
- HoME 6, 7, 8, 9 (whilst re-reading LotR)
- HoME 10, 11 (whilst re-reading The Sil)
- HoME 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 12
- The Letter of JRR Tolkien
And any of these at any time:
- Farmer Giles of Ham
- Smith of Wootton Major
- The Adventures of Tom Bombadil
- Leaf by Niggle
- Roverandom
There are a few others too, but the above should keep you occupied for several months.
