Well, the purpose of this thread was for us to post any questions, and I understand if you didnt have any, but I also meant for us to do the excercises and make sentences of Quenya. Sadly, no one did any of this. I'm not sure if this was much of a success....

LoL! mmmk!
as for the one about "a and one" mixed up... I copy/pasted that out of the lessons we downloaded... (or I thought I did, but I wouldnt think there would be that many errors in it)
And the PEOPLES=LII... I think it would be Lier. I'd have to check my notes, but I am pretty sure its lier.

I think it is lier.
I'm done with my summary, yay we get to keep learning Quenya!
Here it is:
Lesson Three –
Other than plural forms, Quenya also contains a dual form used for things naturally found in pairs. Things casually associated would be plural or you would use the word atta, "two." For example, two sister ships would not be plural, but you would use the dual forms instead. Dual form has two endings -t or -u. -U is used in place of final vowels. For example “Aldu” might refer to The Two Trees. (I am not entirely sure, please don’t quote me on that!) Depending on the word, both letters are interchangeable. For words which already contain a –t or a -d, you may want to use –u to avoid crowding. Several words change slightly when an ending is added. You must use that ending form of the word when using dual form. Example: Talan (floor) becomes talam-(i) when referring to multiple floors. This will come in later lessons, although there is little information on this interesting phenomenon. These variations are apparently a leftover from “Qenya”, the first version of Quenya. Next summary hopefully next Thursday. Just a thought, does Thursday seem like a good day to post summaries? It would give you all weekend to work on it if you had to…
VOCABULARY
atta "two"
hen (hend-) "eye"
ranco "arm"
ando "gate"
cirya "ship"
aiwë "bird"
talan (talam-) "floor"
nér (ner-) "man" (adult male of any sentient race – Elvish, mortal or otherwise)
nís (niss-) "woman" (similarly: adult female of any sentient race)
sar (sard-) "stone" (a small stone – not "stone" as a substance or material)
alda "tree"
oron (oront-) "mountain"

E. Minë nér ar minë nís.
F. I sardi.
G. Talami.

Ok, I have some catching up to do. I'll edit in the lesson three in this post when I've finished it. Before I make this post I have to make a comment to prevent the misuse of words. In lesson two you vocabulary list contained mine, vende, tari and lie. These words are written incorrect and since you use them correct in lesson three I assume you know how to write them. The correct words are:
mine=>minë
vende=>vendë
tari=>tári
lie=>lië
Ok, here are the excercises from lesson two (they should be correct for I've checked them afterwards with the key included in the course. The plural of lië as it stands in the course is lier)
Quenya => English
1) horses
2) king
3) the horse
4) the horses
5) kings
6) one people under one king
7) the king and the queen
8) maidens
English=>Quenya
1) tasari
2) Eldar
3) i arani
4) lier
5) I rocco nu i tasar
6) I vendë ar i tári
7) I tári ar i vendi
8) Anar ar Isil

Err, Elvin, lesson one was posted by Calimehtar, the next lesson by Eöl, who was kind enough to take over for Calimehtar. ;)
You did well on the first round of translations btw.

Ah well, then I must apoligize. I though it was simply another login from the same person. But still it was rather confusing to me so when I went to read through the course i found those errors in the second lesson so I posted them just to make sure that nobody studied them in a wrong way. :) Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I know you meant well, Elvin. :)
All members of these forums are just allowed one login each, if you remember this there will be no misunderstandings in future.
Elvin Motrice, you are welcome to join us in learning Quenya! If you could post the answers to lesson three that would be great!

Are we meant to post our answers to the excercises in this thread, or to merely use the excercises on our own and learn that way?
Milonna

How is Quenya diffrernt from Sindarin?

Might I have som response on my last question please? :-/:confused:
Scatha
04-13-2003, 12:38 AM
Milonna, Quenya is the language spoken by the valar. Sindarin is the native language spoken by the Sindar elves, which has become the foremost spoken elven language at the end of the third Era.
Wonks, I believe Eol has stopped teaching. So unless we find another candidate, the only place to earn Quenya is on the languages forum.

Darn. Ok.
Well...thanks anyway.
The few posts he's made here are a big help anyway. :)

Wonks, you still could download the entire course at:
Ardalambion (http://www.ardalambion.com)
That way you can still study Quenya, but at your own pace.

My pleasure Wonks. :)
Well, my summer break is coming up soon...And if I could get some assistance, I would love to start up the lessons again. I'm just too busy with school right now.
Scatha
04-15-2003, 03:48 PM
That would be appreciated, Eol. I am willing to assist you, but have not much experience with quenya, as I am still doing the course at home myself. :)
I look forward to it! And, by the way, the only Quenya experience I have is as far as we have gone in these lessons...Only two! So don't worry about it.

Okie dokie, Eol. Just give a holler when you're ready to start it up again then. :)

I am eager to learn Quenya through this thread because actually taking the time to do it on the website is probably too time-consuming and complicated for lazy little me. :)
So thanks Eöl! :) I appreciate your guidance!

Will there be Sindarin lessons as well?
Scatha
05-04-2003, 02:01 AM
*scratches his head* Errr.... *points at the topic of the thread*
I think not, because I know nothing about sindarin as of yet... and won't even try it until I have Quenya down myself.
Will there be Sindarin lessons as well?
Probably not Wonko, unless someone else wants to take charge of that.:( Quenya has much more written about it than Sindarin.
Wonko The Sane
05-24-2003, 04:20 AM
But wasn't Sindarin the language spoken by the elves during the war of the ring?
